  • In this video i am going to install a ER collet chuck to a Myford lathe. The procedure would be the same for most lathes. Including most Chinese made machines.

    The collet insert can be rotated to grasp the work in a different place. That can sometimes make the needed correction.

    That want's doweling now set as it is. i have one i had to make my back plat to & i must say the plan was to fit 3 grub screw to adjust in them side hols. but it was that close i changed my mined I am very satisfied with . & I have no lead screw on my lath. & I had to cut my threads using my rack , & in reality i had to estimate the Gering to get 6 thirds to the 1" i got the Job done & the results was a finished run out of 2' ten's of a thousandths. For me that KO . It will hold the wood to tern my Bishop LOL. Yes I ues my late for evry thing including woodturning & plastic turning HA HA HA I'm a philistine i know Ha Ha Ha .

      Hi Les thanks for the comments. Nice that you have done one too. It holds well with the 3 - 8mm bolts & cannot run out as it is indexed to the backplate.

    Thanks for the great watch. I've been looking at some collet holder for my wee boxford. The accuracy you obtained is far greater than I would expect to obtain. I am interested if your Morse taper would change the accuracy of you rotated the holder 180°, My lathe is ex school lathe so my chances I think are slim to none without testing, would love to know. Keep up the great work with you videos.

      Hi Reamer1 The collet chuck is fastened to a backing arbor. That arbor is screwed onto my headstock directly. I am not using the morse taper for this installation. Hope that helps.

      Yeah that makes a lot of sense to keep the hole through as big as possible. Thanks will be looking for a similar collet system now and will probably need to make a back plate to suit. Thanks for great idea.👍

      It's actually a great addition to a small lathe Richard. Nothing to catch your hands or clothing on & less spun weight. Thanks for the comment.
      Regards.

    What you need is a concertina umbrella cover

      Hi Martin. I looked at the plastic ones on offer. The trouble with the Myford screw is it is very close to the bedways. Making it very hard to get anything behind it.

    Very nice video thank you. What sort of drive do have for this lathe.....its quite silent. Curios to know

      Hi Nasim, the motor is a Machine mart 1.5hp 3phase motor. Driven by a Omron single to 3 phase inverter. If you look at this video, I think i show the motor etc. ruclips.net/video/n07Wz9foPdo/видео.html

    It’s not out .0006”. You’re using a tenths indicator, you shouldn’t have put oil on the end mill because you’re reading the viscosity of the oil.

    Are you happy with it? I just got a 1945 Logan 820 and was looking at ordering a similar unit from the UK, but ER32... mine has a 1-1/2"x8TPI spindle thread... I like how compact this one is...

      @Steviegtr52  2 года назад +1

      Yes it is very accurate to use. Only good for sizes that the collets take. A great addition to the lathe.

    Your dial indicator is binding up. I would not trust it. Seriously.

      Thanks for that. I do need some new ones. That is very old & the spring action is not very strong.
