The “Ace in the hole” reference is a nod to Alastor’s sexuality. It’s Canon that he’s Asexual. Vivienne Medrano said that they won’t “confirm” him being Aromantic as well, only because she knows that her fandom loves shipping characters, so she didn’t want to “officially” take that from them, but she has hinted around the fact that he probably is AroAce. But the “Ace in the hole” joke is confirming in the series that he’s Asexual. And he responds with “a-what-now?” Most likely because since he keeps his world and his knowledge cut off after the 1920’s, and there wasn’t a word for being asexual, and there definitely weren’t more coloquial terms like “Ace” - anyways I love your reactions. Hazbin brought me to you, and I’ve been watching them ever since
With the way her conversation went, talking as if Charlie was more of a girlfriend, then hit with the Ace joke, really feels aroace to me. Wishing into further confirmation that’s he’s aromantic as well.

The best part is a character should be the one to confirm it so since Alastor doesn't know what it means he'll never confirm nor deny it. People may call him that but if he doesn't confirm it then the point is moot

fun thing about alastor and rosie's relationship- you can tell that al genuinely likes rosie quite a bit, so much so that when she spins him around he makes the bleating noise a fawn does when they're happy. on top of that she's able to make jokes about his etiquette, touch him often, and his pupils even expand when she pulls him over when she says "I concur" in Ready For This. also, cannibal town is based heavily on the 1880s-1890s, the gilded age, with references to Hello, Dolly!- hence the name of the episode
She does have a very motherly vibe and he is based on a mommy's boy

I mean, Alastor was a cannibal already in life, so it makes sense if Cannibal Town was his home neighborhood when he was new in Hell. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Rosie acted as a mentor for him until he found his footing and the way they operate in Hell seem quite complimentary. Makes me think of the way ravens and wolves sometimes team up, with Rosie alerting Alastor to suitable prey and Alastor bringing the raw power.

Also, a popular theory is that Vaggie's wings grew back a while ago but she never realized because she hates that side of herself so much that she never tried to use them once in the last three years. It's only now that she's not lying about her identity and is beginning to accept herself that she realized they had regrown (having been torn off rather than cut with angelic steel like her eye)
Alastor's greatest power is the one he works very hard for no one to notice. His patience. Everyone is focused on his physical abilities. But being observant, planting little seeds, and waiting is his TRUE power.
This EXACTLY!! I feel like most people get hyped up about Alastor and over-estimate his abilities in a "raw power" sense, but looking at the power scaling in hell Alastor is NOT that strong. He's basically mid. But he manipulates everybody around him (including the audience in most cases) into believing that he is MUCH more powerful than he really is. I STILL see people wondering aloud who would win between Al and Stolas power-wise, as if Stolas wouldn't crush him like an ant. Without spoiling, future events did not surprise me in the slightest. Alastor is cunning, resilient, adaptable, patient and VERY observant. That's what gives him the edge over others who are wayyyy stronger than him on paper. And it's what makes him so dangerous.
@SaiyanSerenityV thank you! A sane person. Lol. Yeah, he knows just when to use his power most effectively as well. I'm sure he started many of the rumors of his powers and hypes them quietly. Like the Dread Pirate Roberts. And whenever he meets new people, there is ALWAYS some display of his power, enough to nudge them into fully accepting the rumors as true. Manipulation again. Oh he has power. And among sinners the vast majority aren't going to withstand him at all. But for the overlords... it's cunning. And that's what he is doing with Charlie.
@@mycroft16 yes yes YES, I also strongly believe he is feeding into the story we get from Mimzy and making it much bigger. Hell, even when it comes to whatever happened to him 7 years ago, he is still working it to his advantage! I don't see a lot of people talking about how he carried himself around Zestial but I found it so interesting - I believe Zestial is the more "powerful" of the two, but he also seems a bit nosy to me, like he wants to be in the know of everything, and it seemed like Al caught that and was deliberately more aloof than usual. Gave him absolutely nothing, acted shifty when he brought up his absence, buttered him up. Very calculated imo.
@SaiyanSerenityV 100%. All always gives people he meets a brief little display of power when meeting them... just enough to have them convince themselves that everything they have heard is true. Like when he first comes to the hotel. And yes, he is legitimately powerful. But like you said, how he was with Zestial... he is extremely quick at picking up on other people's moods and motivations. He would make an extremely dangerous conman. He is a smooth talker and is dripping in charisma and charm. He's like the Dread Pirate Roberts from Princess Bride. Or Captain Shakespeare from Stardust. It's the reputation that does the work. And he is not wrong about smiling. Always wearing the smile like that is extremely effective. It unnerves people. All he has to do is just be intimidating and always seem in total control of everything and just wait for others to do his work for him, or let info slip and then take advantage of it.

Yes but also the clothes on the cannibals are 1910's at the absolute latest. Also Rosie and Cannibal town borrow a lot from "Hello Dolly!" the musical -hence the episodes title- which is set roughly around that period.

Iol, I was watching the video on TV and that comment bugged me so much I had to find the vid on my phone so I could comment. Also in the first episode she was on live TV talking about the hotel to all of hell, so I think you could say she has talked to a large audience before. Love your content. Keep it up.

Also Alastor put Vaggie in Susan’s outfit in his pilot song. Shows his opinion of her. Most of these characters are more than a decade old, so it’s not a coincidence.

This episode right here shows EXACTLY why Alistor is so dangerous and such a good deal maker. None of his demands seem that unreasonable and what he is offering is exactly what you need.
they don't seem unreasonable but they're also vague enough that you have no idea what he could end up asking you for. like charlie agrees to a favor in which she "harms no one" but what if he asks her to do nothing while someone else is being harmed? what if he asks her to void his deal with whoever owns his soul which ends up granting him the power to conquer all of hell? what if he asks her to sell someone out? you can't agree to alastor's deals because he never tells you what, specifically, you are agreeing to do.
My theory about Vaggie not knowing that angels can be harmed is that she assumes she had already "fallen" when Lute took her eye, and that she didn't have heavenly protection anymore.
Edit: a lot of the cannibals' outfits are vaguely Victorian in style, and that was kind of the end of mainstream cannibalism in England (i.e. powdered mummies and bones put into food and drink for various ailments.)
also..tbh the angels are in bloodthirst mode during the exterminations so i doubt that they'd think "Oh Sh*t, the same angelic weapon we used to take Vaggie's eye out could in fact harm an angel just like vaggie".

My thought pattern is that the Angels have the same respawn state as Sinners do so that's why they don't wear as much armor and don't fight "smart". You could also assume that unless you respawn any damage or injuries you receive just remain which would explain Vaggie's eye not coming back. But now we know that her eye didn't come back because it was removed with angelic steel while her wings came back because they were removed by hand.
To answer your question on where the cannibals get their food from. It's canon that sinners can't die by other means besides angelic weapons. So even if they are blown up or other mutilating things. They don't die they just reform really slowly and painfully. So Rosie and her cannaibals probably take turns cannibalising each others limbs or maybe even invade other parts of the pentigram to gain more food.

As one of the ancients who actually remembers the 1970s, I practically spit my tea when he said that. He should be sentenced to watching “Saturday Night Fever”.

I came to comment this exact thing if I couldn't find someone else saying it. As someone who watches a lot of things from and about different time periods, that was so absurd to me. lol
I came down here to comment almost the exact same thing. Although, joking aside, they seem to be more 1890's-Edwardian period (but that's just me being nitpicky).
I barely have any knowledge of fashion let alone the 1900s. But even i choked when he said that.
For the record, I do know the 1910s, 30s, 70s (and barely 90s styles). And I'd say that cannibal town has more 1910s styled clothes.

Wow, I picked up on the general meaning of moxie just by how people use it, but I didn't know it came from a soda! I had to side track to wikipedia to read more about genetian root, and had a good laugh at how other notable uses for it around the world is to make alcohol but of course it's a soda in USA.

We’re assuming that when Lute told Vaggie she’d sinned against Heaven by letting a sinner escape, Vaggie believed her, and believed she had lost her blessings, including invincibility. And that’s why she never connected the dots.
That doesn't make any sense because at no point are we told or even hinted towards their invincibility being a blessing that they can just loose

That's possible. We don't even fully know what manner of angel Exorcists are and how their abilities and mechanics work. I do like to think that powerful positive feelings are what help angels regenerate, since that's how Vaggie got her wings back (since they were not removed by an angelic blade but by being pulled off by hand by Lute).

In fairness to Charlie not accepting Vaggie immediately, that secret didnt come out after 3 years of knowimg each other and she found out about it at the exact same time she was told her and her friends were being immediately targeted for extermination. She's going through a lot and didn't get time to properly process till Rosie talked with her about it
Also having to hear it from her ENEMY instead of Vaggie herself.
So if you notice in the last episode, when Vaggie “fell” Lute not only took her eye, but she also sliced off her wings. So in that moment, she got her wings back.
She ripped them off, not sliced them. That's why they grew back but Vaggie's eye didn't since it was taken with an angelic blade
Btw, in episode 6 you see Vaggies wings get ripped out in the flahsback thingy, so this episode she just grew them back (literally the power of love lmao)
Also, her reaccepting that she's an angel which she hid for 3 years. A common trope that characters regain their strength when they accept who they are.
I have been waiting for this ALL DAY, so far you're the only person doing reactions that aren't painfully chopped up and actually enjoy it rather than bashing it for over half or sitting in silence so thank you for that as someone who watched the whole show in a day and has no one to force to watch it this is really enjoyable for me so thank you so much for doing such a great job at reaction vids

‘Hello, Rosie’ is one of my favorites. We get to know our nonjudgmental queens Rosie and Carmilla, and the best interaction between Alastor and someone _ever_ (“A what now?”). Not to mention the deal scene. I love seeing his deal- making form.

Only time I laughed harder is when Charlie yells at Susan calling her an old bitch. To see her that way was hilarious. She always plays nice and even when she is mad in demon form never talks like that.
Loving the reactions! Laughed everytime you mentioned the 70's! "Hello Rosie" is a play on "Hello Dolly" which takes place in the late 1890s which makes the fashion and look of Cannibal Town as solidly Edwardian. Also Dolly in the musival dressed very similarly to Rosie and is a matchmaker. Hence Rosie saying the romance is her specialty

As far as Vaggie's wings go, I thought for some reason that they were ripped from her body and she pulled a "Maleficent" of magical realignment...
But now I'm thinking that it was probably shame and hiding the fact she was an angel, and now she fully embraces it.
(also this makes a lot of sense because we've totally seen Lucifer pull his wings out "from nowhere" as well. Fun fact - fan theory suggests that in ep 5 when he first meets Vaggie there's a look on his face that suggests he knows she's a fallen angel too!)

I love what an enigma Alistor is! He's sinister-looking as hell (ha!) and you should definitely be careful about what deals you make with him. But we've never seen him break a promise, and Rosie clearly likes and trusts him, as does Mimsy (even if she was peeved when he told her off for expecting him to solve all her problems - after, in fact, solving them! - and bringing danger to the hotel), and his relationship with Nifty is cute. Didn't like how he threatened Husker, but he doesn't seem to exploit their deal the way Valentino does (I mean, there's a lot worse things your boss could make you do than tend bar for a hotel that only has 2 clients!). Still withholding judgement on what he wants out of the whole hotel situation, but I'm not ASSUMING it will actually be bad for Charlie, even if it could be - y'know?

I love the part where Alastor gives Charlie his microphone, because that microphone is a part of his body and it represents a significant portion of his power.
Also, Vaggie regrew her wings out of an emotional catharsis.
The Cannibals likely eat other demons. I imagine there is a focus on Sinner Demons because if a Sinner Demon is killed by anything other than an angelic weapon, then the Sinner Demon's body will eventually "pull itself back together" and if the body is destroyed (or eaten in this case) they will eventually just respawn in the Pride Ring. Though this process is very painful. Though if a Sinner Demon is killed by an angelic weapon, they will not be able to respawn, but their consciousness will keep trying leaving them in constant agony and is a kind of permanent death.

Yes, those are hooves. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but when we see Charlie’s side profile she has a muzzle and an animalistic nose like a goat. This is because her design is slightly inspired by goats.
Also, Alastor is actually good friends with Rosie. I think Viv said that it’s cannon they have platonic cafe dates where they chat over food and drinks.
I love how you commented on the angels leaving their weapons. It’s honestly ironic, because before the angels started exterminating sinners and leaving their weapons, Hell had no way to threaten Heaven. Demons can’t kill angels unless they have angelic weapons and demons can’t even get into Heaven without someone in Heaven opening a portal for them. The only being powerful enough to threaten Heaven is Lucifer, and he can’t even enter Heaven since he was cast out for eternity. So, if Heaven never started to exterminate demons then Hell would have never gotten their hands on angelic steel, and therefore Hell wouldn’t be a threat. Heaven literally created the threat through their actions.
I've heard some people say that Susan was supposed to be a reference to the previous like manager of youtube and she basically made it REALLY hard for Vivziepop to upload the hazbin hotel pilot and episodes of Helluvabos. So they decided to put her in the show as a karen😂😂. I don't know 100% if it's true but I love it ether way 😂
It's been told that the cannibals practice a form of ethical cannibalism eating sinners who have already been torn up somehow and then prepared by designated butchers. After they eat them the sinner spons back into hell whole (still painfully but it would have been anyway) they don't like the extermination because they find it wasteful a sinner only being a 1 time meal.
Has this already been said somewhere? If I'm not mistaken, it was said that they devour anyone who enters the cannibal town and refuses to adhere to their lifestyle and clothing.v

You know what, I think Charlie has a thing for wings. Because I remember in More Then Anything, when it shown baby Charlie, she was imagining having wings as seen in Lucifer's dreams.

It really is a pet peeve of mine that people don't realize the first Tim Adam shortened the time between exterminations from a year to six months was not in any way Charlie's fault. The meeting was made for them to tell Lucifer they were going to do that ANYWAY because of the angel that was killed. But Charlie didn't know that, she just wanted to make her redemption pitch. But they were going to do that anyway. If anything the shorter timeframe is Carmilla's fault, though we can't really blame her either because she was just protecting her daughters
While Vaggies eye was cut out with an angelic weapon (by an angel, which is probably why she didn't connect the injury to the weapon, she instead linked it to either her disobedience or her superior angel harming her), her wings were ripped off without a weapon. This probably means that her wings could regrow (though without the pain sinners go trough when they regrow anything, because she is an angel), but her eye will not/ can not regrow.
Carmilla has the hunting eyes of an enraged Naracuga, and thats awesome

I love alastor,but that line is haunting XD it can be good or bad,or both actually, cause we've seen all 3 ( to 4) sides alastor,good,bad (evil) and neutral,alastor can ethier help charlie bring out her true power which does help her in tough situations in the future,or he could bring out the worst in her for his own benefits which is what most likely he's doing,I would love to see ethier one happen,we already knew charlie had problems with valentino,but she's somewhat good with leadership when she needs to be,alastor can definitely get her to get more comfortable taking charge before deciding his next step of whatever his plan is

Vaggie didn't know angels could be hurt by sinners. She most likely knew an angel can hurt an angel- but not sinner hurting an angel
If you watch at the beginning when charlie and alastor enter rosie's shop, charlie is actually getting the shrunken head for vaggie it's so cute.
Keep in mind that sinners regenerate endlessly unless holy weapons are used to kill them. Which means if some unsuspecting soul wanders into cannibal town they can keep cutting bits off them and they will keep growing new ones like they were pruning a tree.
There's a theory about Vaggie's wings. The one that she had when she was an exorcist was her exorcist wings, and when she decided to fight for someone she loves, Vaggie managed to grow her Guardian Angel Wings
I just wanna say, youre one of,.if not my favorite reaction RUclipsr. You're not a blank slate that occasionally says whats going on, but you also dont talk over the good parts, you always pause and give your honest thoughts and then let the next scene play out. Suddenly wondering after Rosie says Alastor’s never done her wrong…
So even in the best scenario, a lot of Rosie’s cannibals will die. Then there’s the pretty specific info she gives Alastor on a guy who has “8 blocks of territory and not enough goons to run it.”
So with a fair bit of foreshadowing in this show and knowing that an Overlord’s power is based on how many souls they own, I’m wondering if going to Rosie in particular to use her cannibals, presumably souls under her power, is to indirectly reduce her power. I think Alastor enjoys these friendships he has but I also think above everything else, he keeps people close until they’re powerful enough to increase his own power and takes them for everything they’re worth.
That might be something he did with Husk even. Waiting for the right moment to take control of his soul directly.
But back to Rosie… arming her cannibals means they’re able to fight the angels and they would be a meat they can’t get my way else but fighting them. If angel meat turns out to be more appealing to the cannibals than anything else, Alastor just found a way to continuously reduce Rosie’s numbers.
Let’s also remember that at the Overlord meeting, we did see him taste the angel head… so he knows FOR SURE if angels would be so appealing they would ladle risk dying for it every time Exorcist armies show up.
It also has the added bonus of looking like an unintentional consequence of getting the cannibals to fight. I mean those numbers are more than enough to explain why Alastor would bring Charlie to her. And even then, it was framed as *Charlie’s* request.
So yeah, I think Alastor’s underlying motive for bringing Charlie to Rosie is to put Rosie in a position where she’d make a deal with him. If the scenario doesn’t result in that happening, then he just waits for the next opportunity while keeping her as an ally.
If i remember correctly, at least in early concepts (not Sure that's still a thing), Charlie was supposed to be over 200 years old, being born in the early 19th century (in human years), which would make Rosies comment about her being "much too young" for Alastor even funnier
When you think about it, the way that Charlie sings all the time makes sense. She mentioned in episode 1 with the story at the start that her mum caused an uprising with her songs. Charlie probably inherited that ability.
Rosie is my absolute favourite character 😊 shes so cool! Of course a cannibal is the master of matters of the heart!

I just found your channel through these videos and they’re just really well done. I vastly prefer the way you react to the full video (with filters applied) rather than something like a heavily edited series of short clips. It just flows a lot better.
There’s a great balance of giving some solid commentary while letting things play out too. That’s not an easy thing to nail.
The last song gets me very emotional, i just love anything related to war and Charlie facing the conflict head on was such a treat

In the clip where Vaggie lost her eye it also shows them rip off her wings. It's discrete but it's there. So she regrew her wings during Out For Love.
Actually, if you watch episode six again, Lute (the other girl exorcist) cut out Vaggie's eye and then cut off both her wings. This is the moment where they regenerate, which is why Charlie comments on them being new... they are.
Lute did not CUT Vaggie's wings, she RIPPED them off with her own hands. That's why they even regenerate in the first place
She ripped her wings off, not sliced like her eye. That's why they came back but her eye didn't

The guitar riff you hear during the Vaggie vs Carmilla fight is from Flamenco music, it's original from Spain... which also explains the castanets sounds she does with her fingers during the initial conversation and the fact Carmilla speak spanish and has a noticeable accent.

One thing i really appreciate about Matt (aside from him being a cutie patootie) it's how he's not taken by Alastor no one bit. Every other reactor take him as face value and really believe in his good intentions "ooooohhhh!! look! he's changing his mind regarding the hotel. He really cares!" But Matt keeps his well deserved reservations and doesn't trust him

The cannibals eat other sinners. But it doesn't matter if they do because the only thing that can fully destory a sinner/soul is angelic weapons. Otherwise, hells population would just decrease because of them eating each other. They eat someone and they just respawn/regenerate after a time.
I assume Vaggie thought angels could harm angels, but didn't know it was the weapons that did it

Wonderful reaction as always! One of my favorite fan theories is that the cannibals of cannibal town aren't actually sinners, they're actually a hellborn race. You'll learn more about those in Hellova Boss. But that would explain why most cannibals look surprisingly similar and it it makes a sick kind of sense to eat sinners who are a renewable food resource.

One of the reasons that the deal was so powerful and affected such a large area was due to both Charlie and Alistor being so powerful.
This episode is so good. Also I love how you notice that the background music for carmilla's song with veggie is Latin club music almost designed too hype you up. The opposite end from heavy metal or Nordic music using deep notes too engage your most primal side.

I heard somewhere that Cannibal Town adheres to a very strict dress (I'm not sure if it's 1800s or like early early 1900s) and behavior code and any new sinners who end up there and refuse to dress and act the part of the town get eaten over and over forever by the residents.
I freaking adore Rosie, she's truly such an auntie. She knows everybody's business and all the hot gossip but she uses it strategically.

Thats a terrible reminder that even the most loving rich person is a worthless POS. I'd love to talk with that woman but anything forced on me without a good reason will be fought against and if that means dying trying to protect other people in my situation, thats how it's gonna be

Her wings regrew from an altruistic motivation. She couldn’t regrow them before because she was obsessed with vengeance rather than protection - fueling rage instead of love. As a being of pure good, love was strong enough to regrow the wings, while hatred/anger was not.
