just an important note, the characters in helluva boss are natives of hell, not sinners who died and went there, consider looking at the hierarchy of hell so you don't get lost watching
though imp city is in the second circle of Pride Ring. That's also where IMP-HQ are, that's why clients (sinners) can visit IMP to get their revenge.
Sinners - according to the lore - can't leave Pride ring, yet visit the other nine circles within the pride ring. However Imps (lowest species in hell) can go where they want. Some hell natives look different - that's because where they come from: Loan sharks from Envy, Succubi/Incubi from Lust and so on

I believe the existence of that character is the reason they had him voice Katie Killjoy, because the two act and dress very similar

Heh, even the “bird dick” thing changed! Birds don’t have dicks, as the creative staff learned (well, most don’t). Stolas in particular is VERY different, but you’ll have so much more fun if it’s a surprise. One true story, though. The pilot VA for Stolas made up gibberish to bleep out, which is what VAs normally do, but the Stolas for the regular show came up with three solid minutes of improved stuff he wanted to do to Blitz. Viv and the other creators sat there with their jaws dropped before they decided that yes, they would have to bleep almost all of it.

The voice actor for Stolas gets changed after the pilot, but THIS one didn't actually have to say crazy explicit shit. The bleeps were added strategically to make it sound that way. The second voice actor made a different choice....

A design note about the striped horns is that they also show gender.
If you're born female, you have very thin white lines on your horns, but if you're born male, the white and black stripes are about the same length
The hair also is usually birth sex related with black hair female and white male but this is also used to show trans characters by having dyed hair but still there birth horns (take note of this for the episode harvest moon which has a prominent trans character but they don’t mention it).
Yes, Blitz was purring. He often afffects cat-like bahivors. And, outside the broad strokes, the pilot for this was officially decanonized due to some things (like Loona [note spelling] having syphillis) not the direction they wanted to go with the character.

Yeah, some fans are very overeager to share their notes. I get the feeling that somewhere there floats around a cheat sheet with "things to note in every HB episode", and if the entire list isn't ticked off in a reaction video they just copy the missing points into the comment section. At best it gives the impression that watching these episodes is some kind of test, at worst someone dips into spoiler territory because the person watching didn't comment on some foreshadowing.

Hazbin has a more optemistic tone, even with Angel Dust's situation. This is more crass, more dark humored.
The pilot and the first 3 episodes are so chaotic. But it goes hard with development from episode 4 and on. It's worth the wild ride 😂
I'd say the development starts in episode 2, slows down in 3, absent in 4, and then picks up full speed from 5 and onwards.
I agree about the first few episodes. We really weren’t sure how we felt about them. Then the characters and storyline got their feet under them and we loved it!

If you land in Hell, you’ll be restricted to the Pride Ring since sinners can’t leave hence the annual extermination and Imp City is only a couple hours away from Pentagram City
Although the pilot is not canon anymore, It's a nice way to introduce the characters and what they do. Also, you're gonna love this series!

The pilot IS canon. Apparently the "soft canon" comments that everyone goes off of (including for HB) came from a spindlehorse employee that had been fired. This is further reinforced by both series referring to their respective pilots in their series. S2 of HB has a direct link to the pilot via a flashback episode. HH references the interview Charlie had a week prior when Alistair came to the hotel (and HB pilot shows Loona watching the interview as it was a live broadcast). The only things that changed are some character designs and voices. But the events themselves are still canon. Vivienne has also apparently said this during one of her streams? Not sure about that part, but yeah.
Hellhounds can look like any breed of dog. From huskies to poodles.

It's funny that you bring up Billy and Mandy because the voice of Billy (Richard Horvitz) is the same voice actor as Moxxie.
It's also worth noting that Maxwell Atoms, the creator of _The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy_ (among others), both assisted with ADR direction and voiced characters in both _Hazbin Hotel_ and _Helluva Boss_ -- he was the grayscale Demon in the studio audience in the pilot (Mr. _"Wow~!_ ...That was _shit!"),_ the husband in "Murder Family", and the mascot performer in "Loo-Loo Land".

Hell is split into seven rings stacked one on top of the other (from top to bottom: Pride, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Envy, and Sloth), and there are two basic types of demon (Sinners and Hellborns). Hellborns are free to settle and travel around to any ring, but Sinners are not allowed to step foot outside the Pride ring. Helluva Boss focuses on the Hellborns, so unlike Hazbin, we _will_ be travelling to other rings outside of Pride throughout the series.
Hazbin is set exclusively in Pentagram City, which is the capital city of the Pride Ring, and is the city where the vast majority of Sinners wind up living.
We're in Imp City atm, which is also within the Pride Ring. It's a settlement of mostly imps, other lower-class Hellborns, and their hybrids. Although, there's still a small population of Sinners who live there as well.
Keep in mind that the Pride Ring is itself divided into several circles(we don't know how many exactly) and that Imp City is set in the second circle

The pilot is always so freaking weird to come back to. Not that it's bad, but the changes made from the pilot to the show itself were all for the better imo, I love Helluva and Hazbin a lot, but after re-watching them both a ton, I'm actually starting to like Helluva MORE than Hazbin, especially in the second season (which who knows maybe that will change when season two of Hazbin drops!)
Yeah, Hazbin was so strapped for time that everything happened at breakneck pace. Helluva meanwhile already have almost twice as many episodes out with a much more relaxed pace plot-wise and a lot more space for the characters to breathe and linger on things.
I personally feel like Helluva has become more of a passion project for Viv, and Hazbin is more…work. Still passionate, because it’s still good, but Helluva is pure amazingness from season 1 Ep 6 on. (Personal opinion ofc)
Oh, since you already noticed horns, something for future reference, imps have some specific design choices that denote sexual dimorphism. Male horns have the thick, alternating black and white sections, while female imps have mostly black horns with just the thin white lines between segments. Their hair color is also different: if they have hair, male imps have white hair, female imps have black hair. That's not quite enforced in this pilot, but is going forward.

So here's hell's hierarchy just to give a better idea of the characters positions.
At the bottom we have Hellhounds&Imps, both hellborn species and lowest of the low. IMP is, get this, all imps, except Loona who is ofcourse a hellhound
Then we have every other (regular) Hellborn species. This is self explanatory, creatures born from hell. Unlike sinners though they are mortal and have normal life spans.
Next are Sinners, we're all familiar with them from Hazbin, people who died, got deemed bad enough to go to hell.
Above them are Overlords, again we're all familiar with them, Sinners who have gained power mostly through owning souls.
After Overlords we have the Ars Goetia, 72 royal demons, led by King Paimon. Stolas, the owl guy with a VERY... Interesting, vocabulary, is a Goetia.
Up next are the 7 Deadly sins (well 6 since one is very clearly above the others and you know who it is). See hell in this show is divided into rings. Each ruled by one of the deadly sins. Pride is at the top, and is the only ring Sinners can be in, ofcourse IMP's office being set in pride aswell.
Right here, second to top, we have Charlie&Lillith, no explanation needed here, nor for the top
That being Lucifer, sin of pride, ruler of hell.

@@ChaosDY It wasn't just designs and voices that changed, it was a lot more than that. Like Stola's outright personality, Tilly no longer being Blitzo's sister but instead his mother, Loona having syphilis and many other things Also if the pilot was canon the drama aspects wouldn't work because no one would care the child killers are sad. That's why the first episode is all about them killing people that deserve it. Besides, show pilots are never canon as they are merely a proof of concept, nothing more. That's why Murder Family re establishes and re introduces both the concept of the show and the main cast. Also those fladshbacks to pilot events that happen later on are re introduced and reestablished outside of the pilot under a different light but that doesn't make the pilot canon

I don't think the crew has ever directly killed a kid in the actual show, but uh that's a low bar and they don't clear it by much.
Don't worry about stolas, his character will change as the series goes on, you will see.

Speaking of Invader Zim, last week I remembered that cartoon, and I realized that one of the reasons I like Helluva boss so much is that it reminds me of Invader Zim; I love how these series surprise me with unexpected twists, and with out-of-this-world logic and sense of humor.

just so you know (unless you've already seen those episodes by the time you've seen it); some of the jokes in the early episodes (I believe only 3 but maybe more) are kinda insensitive, but it gets much better
Some background info on Stolas from real life demonology:
According to the real life Ars Goetia, a part of the Lesser Key of Solomon from the mid-17th century that forms the basis for some noble demons in this show, Stolas is one of the 7 Great Princes of Hell, the 5th to be precise. He's said to command twenty-six legions of demons and to be a teacher of astronomy to those who summon him. He is also said to be knowledgeable about herbs, plants, and precious stones.
His most common depictions are a raven or a crowned owl with long legs (the Helluva Crew certainly nailed that part).
I'm excited to go through this with you. I've been hesitant to jump into Helluva because of some missed things I heard but I'll gladly jump into the side car for this one.
I love HB even more than I love HH. The first couple episodes are a lot more murdery and then by season 2 you're like "why are there so many feelings in my horny murder demon show?" I LOVE IT SO MUCH

Something that I think think should be cleared up for this show, which the show itself never really explains, is there are three main types of Demons in Hell. Hell Royalty, Sinners, and Hellborne.
Hell Royalty are a combination of Fallen Angles, Eldritch forces, and their children. They're borderline immortal and indestructible, with the only way of harming let alone killing them being weapons blessed by Angel of equal rank or higher. Most are capable of breeding and so a full dynasty of royalty to rule Hell has been established.
Sinners are humans born on Earth who were sent to Hell when they died. They can be maimed and killed pretty easily, however will go through a painful regeneration process to heal wounds, allowing eternal torment. The only way to kill a Sinner for good is a weapon blessed by an Angel, but any rank of Angel will do. They are completely infertile (with the exception of Lilith who might not even count as a Sinner.)
Hellborne are Demons who were born in Hell. Hellborne can be killed by just about anything, including old age. As you'd expect they can and do have children to keep up their numbers, and largely exist as slave races to do the Royalty's bidding.
While this might be getting into spoiler territory, as it's actually explained in the show a bit, Hell in this universe is split into seven rings. Sinners are confined to the Pride Ring, while Hellborne and Royals can explore all seven freely.
If you want a more proper and again potentially spoilery breakdown of the hierarchy:
The Royal Family (Lucifer, Lilith, and Charlie)
