As a gamestop employee, It's clear to me that this specific store is at fault. It's policy to test the consoles before packaging them up to be sold. If they were broken, the store shouldn't have took them in the first place.

After coming back to this video, the cartridge of Heart Gold is something to die for right now. Every scalper is selling for insane prices.
How is it scalping if the game came out over a decade ago and new copies probably haven't been produced for close to 10 years? At this point it's simply high demand and low supply due to most copies being already in use, broken, lost, or collected, which is what's driving up the prices. No one can buy all the original stock and then resell it in a market where customer's are expecting to buy at MSRP and retailers are intending to sell at MSRP because that was in 2009.

here in the uk we have CEX they make you wait an hour when u trade in a console, supposedly to test the devices, every single purchase i have made from them for over ten yrs! every single product has been faulty!!! they dont just waste ppls money but also their valuable time. i was in the other day spent an hour analysing every console they had on their shelves made a careful choice of a console that was in pretty good condition, pointed out the one i wanted and when i got home pulled it out of the box to see that they had lifted a banged up piece of crap filled with fluff from their back room. These companies are rip off merchants and very very dishonest, i made a customer complaint and the next time i was in the store when i got to the check out was informed my account had been banned!!!! they where so lucky I didn't just go and burn the place to the ground!!!!!

I think it entirely depends on the Store manager and their hiring standards.

Horrible deal. I ussually fine ps3s at pawnshops and thrift stores for $30-$50 and they are ussually slim. Not the big ones. Even if you look on Craigslist or facebook marketplace. You can find ps3s for $50-$60 with games ussually. And Nintendo Wiis you can find for like 20 bucks at any used electronic store.

They're dead already where I live, they all disappeared, the last one moved about 2 years ago. To get to one I need to drive almost 50 miles, and that is just far enough for me.
Let's be honest here, gamestops pretty awesome. Where else could you go to sell your broken systems and games. Not to mention if you buy something that doesn't work returns and exchanges are dead simple.

It has to do with fraud prevention and it's standard at a lot of retail places. The amount varies by store and location. If it's a clothing store at the mall that sells expensive shit then it'll probably be a lot higher but how often do people spend more than 1000 at a gamestop? For games? Or for buying every single console? Does that seem legit? No. So they need approval or else they lose their job. I'm suprised the manager said yes tbh and didn't make them buy some next week instead of in one day

The only way that a retailer would lose out is if they sell the person a product and a card payment is accepted by the bank and the transaction is later declined by the bank. "Refurbished" really just means they just make sure that the console can at least turn on. There's nothing beyond that, there's a pretty good video from this guy who refurbished "refurbished" consoles from GameStop and the big take away is that it seems like GameStop doesn't bother to even open and check the inside of the consoles. So usually with the new console is a nice amount of cigarette smoke in the fans.

Don't buy any game consoles from game stop, they make it very overpriced and it's honestly not worth it.
Although the games are pretty good , at least from my experience . I got Horizon zero dawn , battlefront 2 and street fighter 5 from GameStop and they work smooth as butter
