Similar here, over Christmas last year I dug up my old PS3 and installed an SSD. Downloaded the Sly Cooper and Ratchet&Clank collections. Fun project and trip down memory lane.
I got a PS3 a couple years ago from a friend at work. I ended up adding homebrew and replacing the HDD with a 1TB SSD. I still play on it frequently. it plays PS1 and PS2 games just fine. I always enjoyed the PS3. While the PS3 original 60GB model did have full backwards compatibility to PS1 & PS2 discs, but one of the bestest thing I liked about the console is that due to the way the console was designed, as long as you have a portable drive that’s in a FAT32 format (USB flash drive is already in this format) you can actually transfer any compatible digital (video & audio) files you may have laying around in a external drive and in your computer. Meaning that if you happen to have a bunch of movies or TV shows digitally saved somewhere that’s compatible to play on the PS3, as long as you have a decent internal space in the console and have any USB flash drives just sitting around, you can actually store a very large amount of TV shows on your console. You can’t actually do this on the PS4 or PS5. 😞

You haven't been looking very hard. Just search "playing X in 2022" or anything similar and you'll get results, to say nothing of chanels like ModernVintageGamer that tend to go over console mods and hacks that make them more convenient. The PS Vita and 3DS are both easy to hack and get running backups and homebrew, for example.
Xbox 360 is CRAZY. it's been years and you can STILL buy stuff. I looked on the store one day, and there was a preorder available for GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE. I'm so happy that my favorite console of all time is still alive.
One reason the 360 store works so well is because of backwards compatibility. A few games (probably for legal reasons) have to be bought through the old xbox marketplace in a web browser or on a 360 even if they're enhanced and you just want to play them on a Series S/X. So not only does backwards compatibility let you play old games on Series S/X, but it's also probably a huge reason why old 360s are still so functional today.
My stance on the Wii is that the backwards compatible one is still very playable but the Wii-only versions are not. This is not due to the Wii games but the lack of GameCube support. The Wii took a major risk design-wise with the Wiimote and nunchuck but there are a lot of good games that run better with a proper controller and the Wii controller expansions drain batteries too fast. I’m so glad I was able to get a backwards compatible Wii from a thrift store a couple of years ago, it was $10 for just the console so I stole the wires from my other one. It even had Wii Sports that I was able to sell for $15 to a pawn shop shortly after, keeping my copy so I effectively got paid $5 to take a Wii.
I collect consoles myself, to play games on whenever I feel like it from my past, as well as inviting other people to join for fun times. I have over 20 consoles atm haha To me, yes, the PS3/XBOX360/Wii are still amazing to play in this day and age, ESPECIALLY considering how many new games are currently gimped by microtransactions and other monetary shizzle.
I'm pretty similar to you my guy! I have around 20ish consoles all hooked and ready to play and my friends love to come over for "game night". All my Xbox consoles are hooked into an Ethernet switch for System Link and I've got three displays (two flatscreens and one CRT) for when the crowd gets big. It's a ton of fun, but even I have to admit that it takes a lot of effort, care and money to upgrade and upkeep this monstrous setup. Tolerable to me since it's my hobby but others would think I'm crazy or wasting money. To me, you just can't put a solid price on fun especially if it's something you can share with other people in your life.
I still have my PS3 Super Slim, and I am never going to get rid of it. Sometimes I take a break from PC gaming, and launch up BO2 and play zombies and chill, best generation of gaming ever.
The PS3 is solid, but upgrading it to an ssd makes it so much better. Though most of the games run at 720p, the games still look solid today just like some of the 360 games.

PS3 was gold, Burning CDs to play better music in Gran Turismo 5 and 6 made Deployments so much better or just not having to connect to the internet to play great games. I still have a 2tb Firecuda in mine with Dreamcast and PS1,2,and 3 games. Pretty solid machine and some old pictures and videos from my first digital cameras from 2000-2009.
I bought a Xbox 360 elite at Goodwill for $20 and it works! After recovering my 360 digital games I forgot I purchased X-men and Simpsons arcade and MK collection years ago. I was still able to download them again! I feel like a kid again!
These consoles will always have a special place in my heart. They are what I grew up with coming on from like age 12 or something like that. Still great buys imo.
I got mine a day after my 14th birthday and it still works. In fact last year I finally finished the first God Of War game on it and plan on getting to the sequels soon as well as other franchises such as Ratchet & Clank.
I was rocking these systems till a few months ago. Before March of this year the last 2 systems I bought was a Wii and a Switch. I bought both a few months after they were released.
Fun fact: the Xbox 360 shown in the video is an Xbox 360 Arcade, which is the replacement for the Core. As the name suggests, both were the cheapest versions of the 360. You can tell it's an Arcade because the console is white with a silver disc tray, & it has an HDMI port.
One of my favorite things about the 360 was the avatar games. Idk if it was just me but I loved playing those games when I was younger. The 2 I played the most were Kinect adventures and avatar warfare
The PS3 was the greatest console of late 00s and early 10s era! When the PS3 was the first system where controllers were motion sensing, required no external battery and the console had built in wifi as well as free online play with PSN! The wave background and the built in apps were unique and fun especially PlayStation Home! The console was a powerhouse and people use to complain that the console was too large lol now the original PS3 model looks like a Wii compared to the current PS5 model! I do miss the first 360 dashboard it was very clean and had colorful and fresh aesthetic. The 360 has some sick white and green promotional artwork. The Wii was also fresh and nostalgic and cute in its own way!
I was really disappointed with how huge the PS5 is. Wouldn't mind it if most of that space was to allow for memory expansion. The PS3 and PS4 size wise was perfect for what a gaming console should be.
You could install Linux on a PS3 and use it for emulation. Sony officially supported installation of linux as they wanted it to also function as a home computer.
I remember one day like 2-3 months into the wii's life I was over at my grandma's apartment. We'd just finished up dinner and she tells me to get ready we're going to the mall. She never does that. We go to EB Games. I'm even more confused, hoping she's about to surprise me. The lady in front of us is returning a wii. My grandmother goes up and asks to buy a wii. The guy says this is the only one but it's sealed, asks if she's okay buying it. She does. She spent like the next 2ish years proclaiming "why don't people just go to the store and buy a wii machine ? There is no shortage. I got one just fine." Not realizing the lottery she'd just won.
The PS3 gets a lot of flak, but it’s arguably my favorite console ever. It was also a great blu ray player. UI beats Xbox and Wii and even the PS4/PS5 today.
You could set whatever picture you wanted for background, I had a partially nude pic of my gf at the time as background. Really hated the cash grab concept of ps4 where you had to buy themes instead of customizing as you want to.
It was pretty much the only blueray player back in the day. For the price you couldn't buy a blueray player that cheap you basically got a free console with it.
Unfortunately my PS3 overheated after 10 years of use. These old consoles need maintenance if you want them to last. SSD upgrades are always a bonus too.
Jarrod is the guy in class where he just hates on everything that is popular and trendy, and listens to some underground shit while thinking he is cool.
If you hack the Wii, you can get the missing programs, as well as you can add custom multiplayer games to some games, if you run it off an external drive. Another feature I like is to get custom-made games for the Wii.
7th gen came out at a time when the internet had really taken off, which led to the community aspect of gaming becoming significantly stronger than it has been before. +Everything from Forums, websites, to RUclips. At the same time as the internet the piece of the respective consoles had grown stronger.
I remember they had the Wii sports and Wii fit in our gym class when I was 17 and remember playing against some girls who got pissed when I was about to get a 300 in bowling (because it’s really easy to cheeze if you know how), but they shut the system off in a rage.
This video is made for me. I bought these three consoles this year. As I was a bit broke and games from this era are like 2 bucks. I know a bit about what works and doesn’t work. So for PS3 most apps are fine, when loading up RUclips or Netflix it may crash but you just have to delete and reinstall the apps and it should be fine. Crunchyroll has issues in playback with shows stuttering randomly. They recently made it so you need a specific log in password that is generated for you to go onto PSN, and it’s best to check the box that remembers it and auto-sign in so you don’t have to keep generating new ones. The Xbox 360 has a fair number of issues in its media apps. RUclips app will say it is not working anytime you have your XBL logged in. You have to sign out, open RUclips and it’ll tell you to choose account and it will work. Netflix I find the audio doesn’t work unless I put the resolution to 480p in the settings. Crunchyroll is a mess, episodes will either not load up, or will say the server cannot be reached in longer series like One Piece, and you just have to keep hitting retry until it works. On Wii the internet enabled apps don’t work anymore, as shown in the video.
It was probably the optic disc drive that needed changing. We had the same issue with our Wii. (After 13 yrs. of playing) It sat for three years unused. Until one day, I said I wanted to fix it. Found a used complete optic disc drive on Amazon for $25. Me and my daughter changed it out. Me and my family have been playing it ever since. Love or FAT PS3 and Wii

@@hellhoundfkor10146 It's not even the CELL. It's sometimes the RSX and a lot of the time the capacitors behind the GPU.
Pa3 will forever be my favorite console, tons of great memories were made playing with it ❤
finally, the old gaming consoles are getting powered on for the first time in years, never thought i'd see a youtuber using them in 2022
Spawn Wave just uploaded a Xbox 360 elite video teardown a few minutes ago if you like that kind of stuff
You can see plenty using them today, what the fuck are you talking about?
What? Lol plenty of channels still actually game on them lol
Fun Fact: The Wii last ever game released was Just Dance 2020
10 years of memories with PS3, man I loved that console!
Xbox 360 is CRAZY. it's been years and you can STILL buy stuff. I looked on the store one day, and there was a preorder available for GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE. I'm so happy that my favorite console of all time is still alive.
Congratulations 🏅🏅🏅
You just won a package!!
I love my 360 and wii so much, I have a ps5 sitting right next to me but it will never compare to those amazing memories I had with the old consoles
That’s how me and the boys be like when we turn on the wii and hear the song
I collect consoles myself, to play games on whenever I feel like it from my past, as well as inviting other people to join for fun times. I have over 20 consoles atm haha
To me, yes, the PS3/XBOX360/Wii are still amazing to play in this day and age, ESPECIALLY considering how many new games are currently gimped by microtransactions and other monetary shizzle.
Yea I would agree I run a 3 Xbox 360 halo 3 LAN party no micro transactions just pop in game disc and play
I'm glad the 7th gen took as long as it actually did.
How do I upgrade it to an SSD?
@@DialloMoore503 Buy a 2.5” SATA SSD and swap out the hard drive inside the console. I’m not sure which PS3 you have, but replacing the drive is not complicated.

Thank you!
I can't be the only one that still uses the PS3 to this day. It's way ahead of it's time and still so many great games.
Doubt it would go very far but now I'm curious how building the ultimate wii would go
VERY WELL, especially with homebrew
So much support on Facebook it's not even funny. I say go for it. You'll have allot of fun while setting it up
Ken: favorite anime of all time
Austin: why don’t you sign into your account
Ken again: fine why don’t we watch Forrest Gump 😅😅😅😅
Xbox 360 is one of the best consoles of all time. Collecting for it is super cheap, too
I still use my ps3 all the time, SSD upgraded, use ethernet and PSOne servers for ps3 game can still play online. great library and alot of fun. will always be one of my fav consoles
I feel like a kid again!
i think the 7th gen was the most iconic generation of the console wars
the first console i've ever wanted was a ps3, mostly because all of the cool racing games came out in that era (gt5, blur etc)

I got a Wii on my 5th birthday back then
6:03 You gotta admit the Wii music slapped.
The PS3 is amazing when cfw is installed on it, especially the CECHA01/CECHB01 model because it plays PS2 games natively aswell.
and the CECHC and CECHE models too, except those are partial hardware emulation but still relatively good in comparison
I'd love to get a hold of one of those, but they can be really expensive. So I'm happy for now with my non-BC fat PS3 complemented by a PS2.
You Guys had so much fun with this video . Play old Nintendos and Game Cube next time ! As always Stupid Funny ! Denkie Rocks shirt please ? Send me.
Man I was literally trying to get my hands on a used console as I can't afford any modern ones and I see this video. Thanks Austin ❤️
I would recommend u a Xbox 360 Slim with a Kinect and 2 controllers and gta iv and modern warfare 2 and u should have a lot of fun
Watch a few videos on the different models of xbox 360 then get a 360 S or a 360 E and pick up a lot of 360 games for cheap
I play my ps3 as much as, if not more than, my ps5. Holds up great to this day. My massive back log keeps me coming back
I use my PS3 in 2022 and it works like a normal PS3
6:36 I'm dead bro the Wii music slaps 😂😂
You could install Linux on a PS3 and use it for emulation. Sony officially supported installation of linux as they wanted it to also function as a home computer.
The important word there being could :( Sony giveth, Sony tooketh away
They removed it within the first two years of it being on the market unfortunately
@@onhold1706 *3 and a half years, Linux support (Other OS) was removed in firmware 3.21, which came out on April 1st 2010.
PS3 linux is pretty bad.

I still use the ps3 in 2022 all because of the ui. It's so beautiful and elegant especially with that xmb wave.
I still use the Wii, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 every once in a while to this day. Lots of timeless classics 😁😁🥲🥲
0:04 Short answer, Yes.
For 360 and PS3.
If you have a CRT, the Wii as well.
2010 was such a golden era for gamers
This will forever be the best generation of gaming!

@@Tomazack i remember downloading the goofy looking ios theme from the browser
My favourite was the original Xbox when my friend had a new music cd i could save it on my Xbox then i didn’t have to buy it
Eh Dunno about ui
It certainly sleeker on first glance
But the 360 was much more functional
The 7th gen console is my favorite and it's awesome in 2022 😃.

The fact that you can watch Netflix shows and movies together on the Xbox360 made it the best.
Gostei do video ê muito bom gosto muito do seu canal valeu 👍
PS3’s design and interface is so slick, looks like a brand new console
Only one I had at the time was the Wii. Loved playing Wii Sports and Mario Kart so much.
If you hack the Wii, you can get the missing programs, as well as you can add custom multiplayer games to some games, if you run it off an external drive. Another feature I like is to get custom-made games for the Wii.
It's so much fun watching these old guys playing retro consoles

7th gen came out at a time when the internet had really taken off, which led to the community aspect of gaming becoming significantly stronger than it has been before. +Everything from Forums, websites, to RUclips. At the same time as the internet the piece of the respective consoles had grown stronger.
I'm unironically so glad Ken's favourite anime of all time is the same as mine
I was never interested in the wii and to this day I’ve only ever seen one in person once.

I remember they had the Wii sports and Wii fit in our gym class when I was 17 and remember playing against some girls who got pissed when I was about to get a 300 in bowling (because it’s really easy to cheeze if you know how), but they shut the system off in a rage.
I disagree with the statement of TLOA being the only reason to show what the PS3 is able to do. MGS4 was one hell of a game, and that was in 2008.
The PS3 and Wii were literally the best consoles back then. So many good games!

Yep! All 3 are amazing once modded! Almost as good as the original xbox once modded lol.
Still have my Wii and my PS3, man this generation was good!
The Xbox 360, PS3, & the Wii was the last modern consoles generation that was so much fun to play with your friends!
