My dad took me to a Walmart an hour away to get the PSP as a midnight release. It wasn't in stock, so he drove me to another one on an additional 45 minute detour to the next place. I was so elated and surprised my dad was willing to do all that. It was a good time.

Yo thats true tho, when in that 2000s era, it was a strong era for the PsP my Dad was kind some of skeptical bout me gaming at that time. I remembered I peek at the neighbour window seeing kid playing with his Red PSP. My Dad later consider to buy me a handheld console at that era (Nintendo 3Ds and PsP). I choose PsP to be my first ever handheld console. My father bring me to the sony centre to buy my first PsP, It was a beautiful white pearl PsP. My PsP is still in a great condition today, I keep it as one as momento of my childhood from my father. Great times

Vita's dark secret was the dev kit. It was hard to develop on it, not because of bad programming as people think, but because you needed 8 hours to prepare your game to be playable on Vita making the development planning too slow and too high risk for big budget games :(

Most japanese game manufacturer moved-on to Switch as their second-choice console replacing Vita, and the dual-analog with screen is much more like Vita compared to 3DS. The PSVITA modding scene is still very much alive to this day. The VITA is an INCREDIBLE emulation machine, I was waiting for you to talk about it, but unfortunately you didn't. While the switch and, now, steam deck are amazing, the vita is a step above the rest when it comes to portability and the ease of use, honestly.
There's tons of support for every emulation scene you can think of- plenty of community made ports, and it can typically emulate up to N64/PS1 games, with some (kind of a stretch) PS2 games. Retro gaming is a breeze with this console.

I felt the same way about the 1000! My first model was a 2000, but when a friend of mine gave me a 1000 with a broken screen? I had to fix it. It just felt so good in the hands! And my 15(ish?) year old self managed to do just that and I was in love with this system. Even though I knew the 2000 was better on the ram, CPU and battery... I still loved the 1000 to bits! But the I have a lot of nostalgia for PSP as a whole. Every model. I don't think there has been a portable system since the PSP to really enthrall me. ell, until I got my steam deck~ And while I do love my switch! But still doesn't touch my love of the PSP.

The proprietary memory card with gouged prices was the reason I didn't buy a a vita. It was required to have one so it basically upped the cost of the system by $80. Comparable memory cards of the time were half to a third of the price. It really upset me being ripped off by Sony and knowing I'd have to get an even bigger, more expensive one later on. The largest ones went for $120 to $200+ dollars if I recall correctly

The PSP was ahead of it's time. I had many PSPs over the years. Starting in like 2005 I would buy broken ones from friends and fix them to resell or keep. I used one until like 2009 as my main source of entertainment. I would download movies and put them on it along with music. I would also just use it as a flash drive to store random files. I loved the PSP. It's only major flaw was the memory's card not being an SD card. The PSP also had great games. Loco Roco was an awesome game. It's very simple but super addicting. Also great while on mushrooms. My senior year of highschool I spent most my hours in school playing PSP games. Mostly racing games since they were super common and pretty good on PSP. If Sony were to release a new PSP I would probably buy one. Also it's web browser wasn't terrible for the time. I watched many adult videos on mine lol. I think the main thing that killed the PSP and vita is smart phones. At least that's why I stopped carrying around my PSP. I got my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and it could do basically everything I did on PSP. But was more pocket friendly. But I'd honestly go back to something larger if it was a PSP.

Steam Deck runs very well all ported games from Playstation. A similar handheld, perhaps with the upcoming RDNA 3, just released, and with FSR 3.0., would be a good start for a new portable Sony console!

I bought it in 2012 I believe) I fixed it up and homebrewed it as well. Honestly a underrated console. Have had so much fun with it. And the homebrew community has and still is working hard with it too

I had the Xperia Play and yes, sometimes it was a bit slow and not as flashy as newer flagship phones in that time, but that phone was great for school, I played ff7 and lots of emulated nintendo games on it and most of the time it worked flawless, but ps1 games could stutter.
I wish sony would release such a phone with modern hw.

I will always love the PSP and what it meant to me as a gamer back when I got it. I still say it's the best handheld of all time and I will die on that hill. It did things modern handhelds are only just now refining. It did TV display, full console quality games, and entertainment center stuff well before the Switch or the Steam Deck were doing similar things. The PSP walked so the Switch and the Steam Deck could run. Was UMD a little cumbersome? It was. Was the Memory Stick stuff less than optimal before adapters? A little, yes. Overall, though, it was the best handheld I've ever used and I'd still prefer it over anything Nintendo has come up with before or since.

To be clear, I have owned every Sony system up until the PS5, and I have had many fun times on all of them. PocketStation was Sony aping the Dreamcast's VMU and its ability to independently play simple minigames. Sony has a long history of taking things its competitors are doing and throwing them all onto its consoles to be all "look, ours does it too!"
-Dual Shock PS1 controller copying the analog stick and rumble pack that the N64 did first
-PS Move adding Wii-esque motion controls
-PSVR cashing in on the hype brought by the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive
-Dual Shock 4 adds touch pad following Wii-U's touch screen
These aren't even the only examples, just the ones off the top of my head.

      @tigolbiddies5444 Год назад +3

•Sony and Nintendo teamed up to make PS1, partnership broke and Sony refined and published the console, hence the sticks and rumble.
•PS Move yes is obviously a steal from the Wii, however they introduced it to compete with the hype of the new kind of family console remote haze, changing their version for different things.
•PSVR released the same year as Oculus Rift CV1 and HTC Vive which means they had been working on it for a while and then managed to sell the PSVR as the most bought headset of all time due to how accessible VR would be for the millions of PS4 and now PS5 owners.
•Touch Pad and touch screens are different, it was introduced to be able to do basic touch and pointer tasks like you could on the PSVita. Then they used it more for game menus and messaging, as the Share button had made it so gamers lost an option button.

I still remember buying one of those really expensive Vita memory cards and dropping the little thing on the way home, annoys me to this day.
As for the PSP, I remember at the time in the UK the exchange rates were quite favourable (unlike now) and because the Japanese version had the better screen, I ended up importing it from Thailand (I think) from Ebay, and it ended costing me £30 less than buying it directly from the UK, the memory card situation wasn't as bad as the Vita as Sandisk also had the license to release their own cards, that were not only cheaper, were also faster too, and came in clear plastic, I still have both my Vita and PSP, don't know if they work though.
