Yeah. It's true now more than ever, it's kinda sad to see Xbox and Playstation play basically all the same games, with some few exclusives. It's why I usually stick to Nintendo, I like having unique titles to play on a console, because the Switch does play alot of AAA titles that are also avaliable on the other 2.
@@9polioMaybe "I want an excuse to boot this thing up that isn't God of Boy"? Exclusives built around a controller are always the best as they take advantage of what that particular system can do

The PS2 backwards compatibility implemented on the PS3 is a key factor to the PS3's initial faliure in competition to the Xbox 360. Sony engineers used a system-on-a-chip from the PS2 onto the PS3, which costed a lot of money, making the PS3 cost a grand to make, yet they sold it for $499-$599, when the Xbox 360 was only $299. After realising how bad Sony was in competition, Sony decided to abandon the chip placements on future models, that included later PHAT models as well as Slim and Super Slim models, reducing the price to $299, which was still a loss but beneficial for Sony to lose less money to make more from its games.
Sony still beat out Microsoft in the end though. The difference was only by a few million (like 87.4M for PlayStation to 86.7M for Xbox or something around there).
As Someone who has had a PS5 for a few months now, I think its great for someone who's sick of Nintendo. But, Seeing as all my other consoles are Nintendo, it's more of a New Friend situation instead of a Love Triangle.

The Vita TV was amazing for the first few days after I bought one. It was a strangely awesome and yet frustratingly limited device. It was all the little frustrations that caused me to give it to my nephew. All the frustrations seem to be things that Sony implemented to keep it from becoming overly successful and cannibalizing the PS4 market. In some ways I wish I kept mine for the retro gaming.
You should've included modding capabilities, the PSP, PS2, and Vita would've ranked a lot higher one of my favourite things about the PS2 slim is it's the only PlayStation that you can run on a battery without any hardware modifications I made a DIY PSP when I was in high school using a PS2 slim, a laptop battery, a PS1 screen, and a voltage converter
1:06 relatable, I got a PSP 3000 recently and wanted internet so I could software update (it came on 6.31 when the latest is 6.61) and then jailbreak it. My dad had to open up a new wifi connection just so I could do it
The PlayStation3 is probably my favourite console as well! My Dad use to have the original PS3 until I think it overheated and died, but since I was like 2 when it happened, I never knew until way later. So we instead had a PS3 Super Slim, but despite that I had an absolute amazing time with the PS3, and after almost a decade, still play it constantly to this very day due to all of the great games featured. LittleBigPlanet, Skate 1, 2 and 3, Worms Armageddon 2 and Ultimate Mayhem, Stealth Inc. 1 and 2 and so much more!
Great video for respecting the PS3. Lots of conformists claim the 360 is better because they build their personality around what Hollywood and media say.
I have a super slim but I can't connect to PSN because it doesn't want to connect to the internet even when I type in correct information, but I can still play it. I've been playing Sonic unleashed for like 6 years now and still haven't finished it.
"The smaller reason the Vita failed was the proprietary storage" No my friend. That was the whole reason it failed. The storage was more expensive than a game, usually. It turned off parents and enthusiasts alike because it was a disgusting practice, and the price gap was just inaccessible for most. Why the hell would a parent want to buy a 250 Vita and then drop 60 on storage, when you could buy a 3DS (after price drop) with like 4 games for the same price Without the adopters, Sony didnt see the base to make many dedicated games for it, which further decentivized buying a psvita or its storage. A self defeating cycle
You're obviously to young to know that PSP memory cards were just as expensive. I bought the red chain of Olympus psp and it came with a downloadable code for syphon filter but no memory card so I had to walk back to store and pay $40 for 8gb. The psp came out before smartphones. the ds wasn't it's only competitor, it was also competing against all the ipods, mp3, mp4, portable DVD player, and pda's. Psp came out when devices were made to do one thing and the psp did everything. The psp software grew along with the ps3 The ps vita is the premium psp but it came out when we didn't need a psp anymore.
I love the vita I own 5 but it came out when smartphones could do everything a psp and vita could and better. The real question was why carry another device with me. The memory cards didn't kill the vita. They were actually pretty affordable 3 or 4 years later. 8 gb were 3.50 at Walmart. I have the proof on my ig
@@elFUAAH Half true AFAIK there were also third party Memory Sticks by SanDisk and next to SD also Compact Flash (and Microdrive a tiny 1" Hard Drive) cards were pretty common and some forgotten formats like SmartMedia, xD, MMC (some MMC also work in SD slots) and a lot of cameras also had proprietary USB connectors in the mid-2000s. But when the Vita came out, Memory Sticks were dead, Sony Cameras and Phones already switched to [micro]SD (though the cameras into the mid-2010s could still use Memory Sticks in their SD slot before they switched to SD only) the de facto standard together with Micro USB.
@@elFUAAH i also own a vita, but the only reason i bought it was in order to mod it. if u even want to play games without you middong, then you basically gotta waste money on storage cards
I wanna comment on the PSvita as someone who owns 3 (1 doesn't work) I'm so... so mad at Sony for this console and the treatment it got. Everything you said was correct, but what a lot of people didn't hear, is that Sony literally got mad at US, the customers, for "Not wanting it enough" when hundreds of thousands of posts across the web a day were begging for something new, or to update the ps1/ps2 collection store that was promised. Gravity rush was basically the only launch game worth playing, and even that only lasted a few months. They lied about 60% of all the promises they made for the vita and blamed everyone else for it's failure. It had SUCH a good shot and I can't imagine what we'd have now if Sony just... did what they said they were going to. For those unaware: Sony's claims were as follows 1. The vita will get massive 1st and 3rd party support: Only half of this was true, it was a 3rd party machine because for the first 2 years of it's life it had a total of 8 1st party games. 2 of them were on launch.... 2. That it would have ps1 and ps2 backwards compatibility support via the store: While this was true, they also mentioned they'd be updating the store constantly.... They didn't... for almost 3 years there were less than 30 playable games, and most of them were games from 3rd parties once again that were just shovelware. 3. That it would netflix/youtube/twitter support: And it did.... Kind of. We got all 3, but only twitter was available for the first year, youtube only lasted a year before it was shut down, and netflix only worked a handful of times and that too got shut down the same year. They killed their own console, and blamed the community for it. It's so disheartening as someone who loves his vita and plays the entire wipeout series daily...
@@mrsmoothbrain9589and could push streaming gaming more. Ps Vita was ahead of its time with the PS4 remote play and PSTV but were both underbaked. Maybe the Portal will be baby steps for Sony getting back to handhelds. Honestly Sony likes to steals a lot from Nintendo like PS Move, remote play etc so maybe the switch’s success will make Sony consider turning the Portal or Portal 2 into a hybrid type system
13:19 "Games from other consoles should _complement_ the library, not _overtake_ it." *_Thank you,_* Nathaniel, for saying what I was thinking and putting into words just why I've been so conflicted about the PS Vita, even as someone with a soft spot for misfit consoles.
Good video, just wanted to correct something. While the PS4 games when installing from the disk, they say "downloading" they are actually just installing from the disk. no issue with preservation there. People keep mixing these things and believing that there's no point in buying physical anymore because you have to "download", wich is not true at all.
Same. It was the very first console I bought right after its release. After 16 years, it remains right next to my PS4 in my bedroom and can still run perfectly.
Amazing video. Just one correction: less than 1% of ps3 games ran at 1080p. most did either 720p or some resolution even lower than that; like 1152x640p
Cool list, I appreciate that it seems like it's more of a hardware ranking list rather than software library. In which case I 100% agree with this list.
You should have mentioned how in the original PlayStation model (the original, not the redesigns before the slim), you couldn’t watch cutscenes. All the FMVs were for some reason unplayable in the original original model.
You know I was always “meh” about the weird design of the PS5, but I’d only seen the digital version. This “standard” PS5-with-a-tumour design is awesome! Somehow making it weirder really works for me!

Thanks for the moment of silence to just melt our hearts to the boot screen on the PS1 at 3:16 It really shows how valuable it is. Biased opinion, though, from the perspective of an owner of a GBA SP (101) and the PS1 in the old days.
How much time would he have to spend with 22 different consoles until he is allowed to review them? I’m genuinely curious on the answer because one person can’t spend that much time with 22 different consoles

5:05 Didn’t you know that there is a screen adapter for the PSOne that allows you to play PS1 games on the go.
You should've included modding capabilities, the PSP, PS2, and Vita would've ranked a lot higher
one of my favourite things about the PS2 slim is it's the only PlayStation that you can run on a battery without any hardware modifications
I made a DIY PSP when I was in high school using a PS2 slim, a laptop battery, a PS1 screen, and a voltage converter
the psvita when modded, IS A BEAST.
you can emulate many games, custom apps and homebrew games + you can develop games for it!
I still play mine too
PS3 is such a premium console! I still can watch the latest version of Netflix and RUclips on it.
I have a super slim but I can't connect to PSN because it doesn't want to connect to the internet even when I type in correct information, but I can still play it. I've been playing Sonic unleashed for like 6 years now and still haven't finished it.
"The smaller reason the Vita failed was the proprietary storage"
No my friend. That was the whole reason it failed. The storage was more expensive than a game, usually. It turned off parents and enthusiasts alike because it was a disgusting practice, and the price gap was just inaccessible for most.
Why the hell would a parent want to buy a 250 Vita and then drop 60 on storage, when you could buy a 3DS (after price drop) with like 4 games for the same price
Without the adopters, Sony didnt see the base to make many dedicated games for it, which further decentivized buying a psvita or its storage. A self defeating cycle
it failed mainly because it didn't get good games
You're obviously to young to know that PSP memory cards were just as expensive.
I bought the red chain of Olympus psp and it came with a downloadable code for syphon filter but no memory card so I had to walk back to store and pay $40 for 8gb.
The psp came out before smartphones. the ds wasn't it's only competitor, it was also competing against all the ipods, mp3, mp4, portable DVD player, and pda's. Psp came out when devices were made to do one thing and the psp did everything. The psp software grew along with the ps3
The ps vita is the premium psp but it came out when we didn't need a psp anymore.
This means we’re getting more Playstation content from Bandy, right? Right….?
It’s interesting seeing Nathaniel Bandy ranking Sony consoles rather than Nintendo consoles for once
Black Ops 2 music on #8 gave me some good memories
I wanna comment on the PSvita as someone who owns 3 (1 doesn't work)
I'm so... so mad at Sony for this console and the treatment it got.
For those unaware: Sony's claims were as follows
It's so disheartening as someone who loves his vita and plays the entire wipeout series daily...
they shoukd defo make a new ps handheld, it could be near the power of a ps4 or even more
@@mrsmoothbrain9589and could push streaming gaming more.
Yes!! So happy Nathaniel was able to get all his content back again
13:19 "Games from other consoles should _complement_ the library, not _overtake_ it."
*_Thank you,_* Nathaniel, for saying what I was thinking and putting into words just why I've been so conflicted about the PS Vita, even as someone with a soft spot for misfit consoles.
You are not telling me he put PSP Street above the PlayStation and PSOne.
Good video, just wanted to correct something. While the PS4 games when installing from the disk, they say "downloading" they are actually just installing from the disk. no issue with preservation there.
People keep mixing these things and believing that there's no point in buying physical anymore because you have to "download", wich is not true at all.
I still have my fat BC PS3. Bought it for $350 back in 2008 and still running today. Only recently upgraded the hard drive to 250GB.
My Dad use to have the OG Beefy PS3 but then it overheated and died, it remains dead in a closet, along with a PSOne and PS2 Slim.
@@bing4156 it’s still worth decent money for parts on eBay if it’s never been repaired before.
Same. It was the very first console I bought right after its release. After 16 years, it remains right next to my PS4 in my bedroom and can still run perfectly.
Bout time the ps3 got the attention it deserves, most underrated console ever
Any definition of nostalgia goes to PS3 best ps console
Dang, I had no idea that you could play Odyssey on PlayStation... NICE!
Amazing video. Just one correction: less than 1% of ps3 games ran at 1080p. most did either 720p or some resolution even lower than that; like 1152x640p
I bet no one expected the ending no. 1 as Nathaniel said now the consoles are gonna be ranking in order of release date...
It’s cool seeing you talk about something different than Nintendo. Great video
Let’s go Nathaniel’s Channel’s back
He's back!!!
The Crash Bandicoot music playing in the background is giving me chills
5:24 I SEE POCKET STATION!!!!
You mean polystation?
Next ranking video, rank all the Mario Kart battle courses
N64 Block Fort will be top 1, mark my words
LET’S GO BOYS, HE FINALLY GOT HIS CHANNEL BACK!
I know you are a Nintendo channel but myself and many others would love to see you tackle a lot of other PlayStation content.
5:50 wait a minute......🧐
Cool list, I appreciate that it seems like it's more of a hardware ranking list rather than software library. In which case I 100% agree with this list.
You should have mentioned how in the original PlayStation model (the original, not the redesigns before the slim), you couldn’t watch cutscenes. All the FMVs were for some reason unplayable in the original original model.
How MicroStradegy Triggers You
Nintendo guy making a Playstation video? Wait that’s illegal
Love this video man! Just kinda sad you didn’t mention guitar hero when talking about the ps2…..
This feels like less of a ‘ranking’ and more of a chronological release of the consoles, but still cool to go back and get a good kick of nostalgia.
Never thought that Nathaniel Bandy would make a PlayStation video.
You know I was always “meh” about the weird design of the PS5, but I’d only seen the digital version. This “standard” PS5-with-a-tumour design is awesome! Somehow making it weirder really works for me!
😁 same for me , the symetrical one looks like it is missing something and looks stupid imho (like it can fall on its side easily) ,but the turmour design has a nice weird look and also looks a bit more decent ? I dont know what it is haha I also think its a bit nicer to be able to use a cd.
The “Mario and Luigi after pulling their noses from the ground after faceplanting from after they stopped being sparks on a power line” bit…
I can’t see that without seeing the “Our First Power Moon” intro.
I know Bandy said that the PS3 was the first PlayStation condole he really go into, so I get the bias there, but honestly, not having the original PS2 even crack the top 10 is crazy 😭
6:41 can't hate the Distillery theme from Daxter™ (i loved that game as a kid up until now, PSP veteran here)
*HOW DARE NATHANIEL HACK A CHANNEL CALLED MICROSTRATEGY* (name still shows up as Microstrategy)
Seriously though, glad to see your channel is back Nathan!
Nice ranking! The ps5 controller seems to have the most upgrades compared to the other playstation controllers! I'm kinda worried about the ps5 digital edition not working after Sony will close the servers though. Also you should make triggered videos on console as well!
Great video but at 18:02 plzz clean the joystick😢😵. It looks like it came from a barber🤣🤣🤣. But overall I like to see you dooing something about playstation😁😃😃. Keep it up💪💪💪!!!
“I’m a sucker for sliding devices”
“I’m a sucker for mini consoles”
I’m sensing a trend…
Fun fact that wasn’t mentioned in this video. The PS4 X, triangle, circle, and square buttons are actually symmetrical. On PS3 and older, X and triangle were closer together than square and circle were.
It's so cool you're branching out, I'd love to see it more often

I like how the artifacts in Astros Playroom on the PS5 are old or new PlayStation consoles and controllers. Some of them bring back memories. The first ever console I used was a PS3 in 2017. (I know I was using a ps3 in 2017 lol) Back then I was pretty young but I had a fun time playing Lego marvel, and now that’s why it’s one of my favourite games today. Astros playroom is another one of my favourites because of the memories it brought back.
22:24 such a flattering camera angle
What she sees
Thanks for the moment of silence to just melt our hearts to the boot screen on the PS1 at 3:16
It really shows how valuable it is. Biased opinion, though, from the perspective of an owner of a GBA SP (101) and the PS1 in the old days.
Imagine reviewing consoles you've had for only a few days...
How much time would he have to spend with 22 different consoles until he is allowed to review them? I’m genuinely curious on the answer because one person can’t spend that much time with 22 different consoles
For some reason, the text written on the top of the Playstation 3 looks like it uses the same font as the logo for each of the three Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. Just a nice detail I feel like needed to be addressed.
Because of this video, I'm gonna save up for an original model PS3 and a PS5 disc version
