You don't know how happy I am about that denton! Believe me, I've been following you for a long time and you really deserved it! They are very complicated fish. I hope you have enjoyed the waters "el estrecho", with a lot of life but not suitable for everyone. You need to learn a little Spanish, and Pablo some English!!! I'm on vacation this week too. A big hug.
You graduated as a spearfisher in Europe 🙏❤️ It’s funny how much more difficult things in tue Mediterranean are. I am Italian myself and have fished both in the Mediterranean as well as various oceans around the world. I had never realised how difficult catching anything meaningful in the Mediterranean was until an aussie buddy pointed out that at the same depths in Australia he catches monster fish with very little effort. Here in europe the fish seem to be smarter, more alerted and stay deeper.. congrats on your catches!
Video/video series idea that I think a lot of people would find really helpful: 1 time video would be how to find spots when you're new to the sport, what to look for, what features and areas favour what species etc. The series: I'd love to see a how to hunt series. Could use lots of footage you already have and just what techniques are best used to hunt each species, how and where to find them, bass, pollock and mullet could be an obvious start but can branch out to more. I think these could be both entertaining and really helpful to us newbies
Watching the second one get away reminded me of the sleeping one on the sand that tore off. Again congrats on a fish that took 5 years to end up one the boat with you.
You should most definitely come to Portugal I am a 14 old boy and always dreamt of spearfishing. My family has a intricate relationship with the sea because we have a tradition of catching tunas each year ,giant 400kg bluefins in the Algarve, with our centuries old nets ,the variety our sea has to offer amazes me and each time I go on the boat to see the tunas I wonder what else is hiding in the deepness ,perhaps you should come here or to the scores or Madeira archipelago and check the sargos here too!
@@DanielMann Xaxaxa good luck my frieand! Dentex is a very smart fish here in Greece. If you have the opportunity try to fish in ionian sea. It's just wonderful!!!
its the culture of fishing here needs to change we need to educate catch and release we need to create re reefing programs for damaged areas of the sea in both spain and greece we need to introduce catch and release methods to allow locals and tourists to not only take away from the sea but feed the eco system and help it thrive.
I grew up in Málaga and used to do spearfishing mostly in the Mediterranean. When l could finally drive, l went to the Atlantic and oh my, what a wonderful experience. How incredibly beautiful everything was... and so much fish all over (talking about 20 years ago)! l remember, you had to be 'very' careful with the currents (there were currents flowing deep under water, too). You needed someone knowledgeable up on the surface controlling the boat... Thanks for the video and bringing me back to my country and the beautiful Atlantic waters!
Well done mate.It is the pinnacle of the spearfishing perfect technic the catch of a med dentex.Open invitation in greece, west coast during june to keep the dream alive, when ever you like...
A week later I was testing in the same area, with the aim of dentex or snapper with no luck, although I still saw them. I'm very happy for you, congratulations.
Fantastic storytelling and great to see Han Mann out diving with you! Highlight for me was the popping of champagne that was on a par with the dentex 😍😘😍
OMG, well done mate. You finally got a Dentex. That is a beautiful fish and I wish I could mimic your excited yelp lol. Nicely done mate.... brilliant!!!!!
Inverted and demultiplied rollers are the future. I don't know who started doing them first the Greeks or the Italians but I think we all know they breed serious spearos. I won't forget to shout out PoloSub the best customs ever! Have an amazing trip!
WOW, so happy for you Daniel! Yes, those inverted rollers are next level with virtually no recoil! Once I saw your video come up I HAD to wait for Saturday morning to fully enjoy it!
Just got back from a night dive, speared 5 Dover soles and this video truly made the evening complete. Just want to thank you for putting out such incredible content! Story telling: 10/10 Footage: 10/10 Presentation: 10/10 Fish 10/10 A Daniel Mann video is the perfect way to rap up any day!
Congratulations!! You will never appreciate a meal more, such a great feeling after a very long effort. For me I was elated for days after shooting my first Mu, took a year and a half only but felt surreal actually getting one. :)
@@DanielMann All about finding a good hiding spot, not looking at them and waiting. Then look over ledge lunge and aim for biggest one all in one motion. My technique up until recently was go into excited mode and not be able to wait them out. Helps after you finally get one, with the calmness. :)
YES DAN! SO STOKED FOR YOU! I know how long you have been working at this one! So proud of you! Also, I love the sneak peaks of the next video; it's a great addition to keep us excited. GREAT JOB ALL AROUND!
After watching your videos and seeing you struggle with findibg a dentex, i thought there is no way i would have a chance of spearing one myself since im not a regular spearo more like from holiday to holiday. Yesterday on my first day in gökceada turkey i went into the sea early in the morning for my first time in the med. and my second dive with just 6-7m depth there was a dentex sitting, i was lucky to not scare him but since he noticed me he first swam away slowly and i remembered reading that they are cautios but also very curios kind of fish. So after waiting for a couple of seconds i saw him coming back at me and i luckily landed it. I didnt even try to catch more fish just enjoy the enviroment for the rest of the time i was in the sea. Btw it was like 2kg(1940g) and i gave it to a restaurant and they grilled it for me, very very good taste rly maybe the best ive ever tasted 😋 just wanted to share my joy be careful everyone 😊😊
The quest for the Dentex ended fatally for a dear friend of mine. He was found unconscious some 3m below the surface, sadly never regained consciousness again. A 3kg Dentex still on the spear. A sad, sad ordeal. From what I've experienced with black outs, I hope he went in peace, doing what he loved so much.
I've been so excited for this video - so stoked you finally got your dream fish. Hahaha, yeeoooww! I am sure Pablo and Rojas are grateful to have been there for your first Dentex, too. Special moments! Also, loved the cook up + celebration. Onto the next one.
Ooooh bravo!!!!! 👍🏻 I can feel you ! I am a master to lose Dentex hahaha ! I never shot one because the Dentex in Greece are so difficult 😞. But i understand why you never shot one before ! You are moving and look way to fast ,you shot other fish before and you are not hidden enough not a little bit vor a Dentex 😅 . Perfect video I personally was so happy for YOUR 1st Dentex!!!!
It’s awesome seeing how excited you were in the beginning of the video. I think that’s how I’m going to be when I finally go spearfishing in Hawaii or somewhere where I can see more than 5 feet in front of me. Much love from Boston, USA!
Happy to see you finally caught your dream fish in Spain after the sleeping dentex and other close calls in previous videos and thank you for you videos on how you prepare your gear it has helped a lot of us here in the Philippines. I hope you get a massive dentex on your next video! Cheers mate
Very happy that you got your dentex In Spain :) very difficult fish to catch, and you really did very well in transmitting your emotions in the vid. It's the first of many for sure!
Got my first this year and i can tell that the feeling is incredible when the fish tested you 5 times by coming and leaving in two minutes and ends up coming close enough ! Funny thing is that i started spearfishing... 5 years ago

So glad you caught your first dentex amigo! With Rojas and Pablo you were in excellent hands. Now you need to come back for the grandad Dentex
Great video, and your interactions and effort to get to know other cultures through spear fishing is great, i’d love to see you coming to galicia!
well done, nothing like that feeling of a quest fish. these are rare moments. the dentex is indeed the king of the Mediterranean .
