It's seems like it's only younger people that think LeBron is GOAT, they were not around to see MJ do his thing. When MJ was doing his there was zero doubt who was going to win, with Bron there's very serious doubt even if he puts himself on a stacked team.
      MJ #1, Kobe#2, then there's debate. IMO

Wouldn’t call it a rip off! The commercials didn’t lie! Everyone wanted to be like Mike. So yea I’m sure Kobe was a little bit of a Jordan fan. He prob even emulated his style as a kid! Well that then prob carried into his adult career. So yea would say it shows more of how big Jordan was than anything. But he’s not the only one who did it! He just came the closest to looking like him. But there were a bunch of players around Kobe’s age that tried to rip off Jordan’s style. That’s how good Jordan was, you couldn’t tell they were trying to be like Mike.

What gets me about MJ always is he was built like most NBA players. He wasn’t the tallest, or the strongest, but when he took the floor he was unmatched skills wise by anyone. When I see guys like him and Kobe who looked like just about every other NBA player body and size wise but their elegance to the game and flare they brought. Unmatched. The sheer will and work ethic to be the greatest is what makes them legends forever. I’m 38 so I got see MJ prime, Kobe prime, Lebron prime. IMO it’s MJ all day not even close 🐐. Lebron is 6’8 280lbs. With freakish ability he should be dominating the way he does but guys like MJ and Kobe had that instinct that can’t be taught that’s what separates them. And let's not forget, it got to the point where the league had to snub Jordan on various awards where he had better numbers than whoever won the award, because if the league didn't do that, then nobody else would have gotten fed much of anything. Jordan's D in statistical terms, was actually even better than his offense and the level he played offense at is the all-time best. Only Kobe can come even close to Jordan's all around offensive game (including being clutch and having the mental toughness not to flop and be a crybaby who skips games over minor injuries), and that's because Kobe modeled a lot of his game after Jordan, and Jordan mentored him on the mental aspects of the game.

Michael could catch the ball with one hand and make a fake without using his other hand, that gives him an advantage over the vast majority of his opponents. You're right MJ didn't have to run and score 30 every night ..but he did! MJ didn't have to rim protect ( i can only assume you're referring to LBJ rundown blocks)..but he did, check highlights of those also. As a person who grew up in the 70's-80's and saw Bird/Magic bring NBA back from the dead. When I first time the nation saw Jordan play in an NBA gam - my mind was blow... and the NEXT day, every kid was at the court with their tongue out and double clutching and trying to do what they saw. In my humble opinion, as someone who has watched LIVE both Jordan and LeBron, there really is no comparison as to who is the GOAT. I say this with no disrespect to LeBron at all, he is an amazing player and a generational talent. Michael Jordan had it all! Talent, skills, vision, speed, quickness, awareness and desire (just to name a few). Jordan made the people around him want to play better, he demanded they play PAST their limits. Jordan was a natural born leader with the most feared "killer instinct" ever to step on the NBA floor. Again, in my opinion - Michael was the single most influential player to ever lace up a pair of sneakers..... The kids that wanted to be like him, move like him, jump like him.....that influence extends all the way to the players of today! Not to mention the accomplishments and titles. I, along with many others NBA fans feel honored to have been able to watch Michael live. These clips are a great way to look back - but to see how one man could run an entire court for 48 minutes and bend the other team to his will - Absolutely Amazing!

The constant improvement was magical and once he broke through as a Champion there was no looking back. That’s not to mention what he did for the league. He played at both ends of the court and got banged up anytime he went in the paint. You can't really compare him in the era of the game today as it is so different now. "He's got handles"
Jordan had such crazy handles that he broke guys ankles without even dribbling the ball on a regular basis. Pump fakes, pass fakes, jab steps, hesitation spins in the post... The list goes on... Because he could literally make a shot after any one of those moves.
Then his behind the back dribbling. He could thread a needle with his behind the back crossover. He had such a long wingspan (6'10" to 6'11") and such large hands that it was almost like he had a third arm.
And then there's the hesitation, stutter-step, or in-and-out dribble. Those always messed with defenders because he would do the same thing before a pull-up jumper. So if players didn't start trying to close out on him he'd just plant a jumper in your face and if he saw them coming he'd just accelerate again and blow past you.
At that point he'd just start driving to the lane and make circus shots between all your big men while potentially getting them in foul trouble. Or just dunk on them.
And this was back before the defensive 3 second rule. So there would literally be a 7-footer already waiting for him in position and he'd still just jump over, around, through or even at them and still hit 50+% of his shots through his prime.

Teams could essentially play a man-to-man and set up initially as 2-3 or 3-2 zone with as long as they didn't play lazy defense. Watch the Pistons or Knicks against the Bulls all through the 80s and early 90s. Players aren't getting 40 plus and crazy assist numbers a night on open shots and open lanes. Lebron even had trouble with Payton and Jason Kidd who were great defenders even if they were old. He's not going to average 40 a night with prime Dennis Rodman hand checking and traps from Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars on the wings and Lambier practically mauling him.
Though, I'm not saying Lebron would do poorly. Players would have to adjust to different rules but skilled athletes would do well pretty much in any era. In the 60s and 70s guys could maul you and not get ejected. And there was no offensive 3 seconds rule early on and no 3 pointers early on. So the game was geared towards 7-footers and players who could hit 12-15 foot shots.

You’re not wrong. I think the answer is obvious and this video shows that, but I can still watch and appreciate Lebron. The debate over the years has led me to that, definitely evolved to come to that conclusion. Just appreciate it, especially if you got to witness it. Be thankful you did. I got to see MJ, Kobe, and Lebron’s entire careers. How lucky am I??

His hang time is why he's called Air Jordan.
His skills & wits is why he was feared and respected on the court.
His leadership is why his teammates trusted him.
His competitiveness is what pushed him beyond any other player.
His humility is why he never proclaimed himself as the greatest.
All that combined is why he is without a doubt the greatest to ever do it and the reason he is THE GOAT.

Have you seen any of the videos where he goes back and schools kids who think they are better than he was? He really, really smacks them down. We're talking grammar or middle school kids. I don't doubt that the beat down makes those kids better players in the long run, but the humility thing... He knows he is better than you and is not afraid to show it.
He did handle the fame with grace, I will definitely say that. I remember back in the 1990s hearing the commercials on TV "I dream I move, I dream I groove, like Mike, if I could be like Mike." It was a commercial for either Coke or Gatorade or one of the beverages that probably don't need to advertise to sustain sales. But, parents bought into it. Michael Jordan was (and still is) perceived as one athlete that really is a role model for children. All about the sport and using the sport to get off the street.

Loved your reactions. We had the same reaction during his career. This was a great reminder of how great he was. His rookie year, Jordan gave me 7 autographs in one night after a game (as he walked his hotel lobby alone). The next year you couldn’t get near him. A legend was born. There’s no shame in Lebron being No. 2 or No. 3. Big time legends over the NBA’s 75 years. But we all know who the GOAT truly is. We’re lucky to witness it (live or grainy video).

      Lebron 2 or 3???
Everyone is acting like the best 3 are MJ, Kobe, and Lebron… Bro if you are having GOAT conversation and you are not seriously talking about Wilt, Bill Russell, Kareem, as well as MJ then just stop.
I mean Wilt Chamberlain used to dunk his free throws and scored 100 points in a game, averaged 30 pts, 23 rebs, & 4.5 assists per game- playing most seasons 80+ games and always 42+ minutes per game.
Bill Russell 11 Championships in 13 years with 5 MVP awards
      Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 20 year career
      19 All-Star games , 6 MVP’s, 6 Titles
Career FG%56 and averaged 24.6 ppg , 11.2 rpg, 2.6 bpg for 20 straight years
MJ is my GOAT- but if you consider Kobe & James you can’t possibly exclude these guys!

My man threw a perfect game while bowling in a sanctioned league, and didn't notice he was about to do so until the last couple frames when he noticed everyone was stopping to watch him bowl. After every frame, he went straight back to the TV to glue his eyes on Jordan. (His favorite player). He was a decent bowler, but was there to socialize and have a good time. Just so happens this night his eyes and attention was on Jordan and wasn't really thinking about anything else. I enjoy that story because it shows you just how much people paid attention to MJ's play. He was memorizing!
