He saw that Optimus defeated one of the most powerful beings in the universe and he knew he would save Cybertron. So with Cybertron saved and his enemy undefeatable, he saw no reason to continue the war. He knows when enough is enough and when it's time to quit, unlike Starscream.
I like to think Megatron now roams the universe, helping other civilizations fight against those who wish to destroy and conquer, fighting those who are what he once was.

A con like megatron doesnt give up theyre cause lightly. The only way for megatron to give up his oppressive eays would have to have been to feel the very thing he was putting others through first hand. This ending felt complete. The final page turned, the last word spoken, the last bullet fired....the last life stolen. Prime will always be the best transformers show ever made. It was a perfect blend of gritty and whimsical, realistic and sci fi. I'll forever miss waking up to new episodes of this masterpiece. And make no mistake. Transformers: Prime IS a masterpiece We'll never get another show anywhere near on the same level or made half as good Rest easy Prime, rest easy now that your legacy's been recognized.

This teaches us every cybertronian even a descepticon has a humanity in the core of their heart. When Unicron possessed Megatron, then Megatron realized how is it felt like to oppressed, how it's like to be grind by evil powers. At first Megatron was not evil, actually unicron made him evil , he was carried away by dark energon and unicron. But lastly he realized what he did to his own people and that's why he redeem himself 😢
When this show already has crazy story archs and it hits us with megatron giving up being a decepticon realizing he lost his own way like it was nothing
Even though the ending to Megs' character was so rushed, I truly believe there will never be a piece of Transformers media to do a more perfect job with the relationship and characterizations of Optimus Prime and Megatron
