      This explains my love-hate relationship with the show; every set back they give the protagonists are overcome in such a short term that they lack any overall bearing on the show. Optimus siding with the Decepticons? Only lasts for the 3(?) episode season premiere. The possibility of Bumblebee's damaged t-cog preventing him from ever transforming again? Resolved 5 seconds after Ratchet explains the severity of Bumblebee's condition. Bulkhead being permanently disabled? Lasts for about 2 episodes. Optimus being in too critical a condition assume command of the Autobots, and being forced to apoint Smokescreen a successor? Goes nowhere with Optimus being given a newer and better chassis (body) towards the end of the season 3 premiere. The only permanent setback the shows gives its protagonists is Cliffjumper's deactivation at the beginning of the series, but the show overuses that event to the point it no longer feels impactful.

    Honestly, it kind of astonished me to hear everything about this show. Maybe it’s just because of the person I am, but I always enjoyed it without fault and without complaint no matter what. Nothing ever felt out of place for me, and the way that the story flowed always felt consistent and rewatchable through time and time again.
    But to hear this feels… strange. To know the hell the writers went through, the insanity they had to endure, and to know how absolutely bonkers Hasbro was about all of it. Hearing the cut concepts makes me wish we had more (the original S3 and the eventual S4) but even through that I still love the show and not a single episode of it I dislike for any reason.
    And some of the stranger things about the show I loved a whole lot, I must admit. The dead, almost lifeless backgrounds of Nevada filled with desert and not much color I actually loved a whole lot. The smaller cast, the celebrity voices, and everything else.
    This is, bar none, my favorite Transformers show of all time.

      As a person who was a child when show just aired(around 7 or 8 by the time season 2 was airing) i believe i can at least try to answer that question. And... As weird as it may sound, i believe that it was because of the timing.
      So, early 2010's were as a whole an era in animation when cartoons started to become more dark and brave enough to actually raise mature themes or jokes while still being aimed at younger audiences. That goes to majority of cartoons of that era - TMNT, Gravity falls, My Little Pony, Avatar The last Airbender and even Sonic Boom. That's just to name a few, obviously there were a lot more. But all tried to appeal to as many audiences as possible, meaning shows had to have a coherent plot and something to keep both kids and their parents engaged. But in that crowd Transformers Prime really stood out even then, because this show wasn't holding back. For a 12+ rating(at least in my area) this show has some crazy amounts of violence(easiest example - a gory mess that was made out of Breakdown and then Silas, as well as a close-up shot of Starscream literally penetrating Cliffjumper's chest) and for me as a kid that was both scary and engaging. Which also fitted quite neatly with Bayverse that just was starting out back then and gained A LOT of popularity among newer generation. So TFP felt like a natural continuation of Bayverse(even if it was a whole different universe) since they shared the tone in some manner.
      So. What we have? A show that was a breath of fresh air with it's dark tone, that was a part of the same franchize as two most popular movies of the past few years which created a whole new generation of fans. This show was always meant to have at least some viewership. But the fact that it had a relatively good writing and was broadcasted in late-evening(at least in the area where i live) also played it's role. This show was memorable at the very least and phenomenal at most.
      Also, at least for me this show was able to replicate that same feel that 90's kids felt when they killed off Optimus for the first time. I never was really afraid of OP dying in movies, but in TFP that felt like a real thing. I remember watching fight for Omega Lock and thinking "They're gonna win" but then autobots lost and all hope was as well. And as autobots left the base i thought to myself "Wait, there's no way Optimus will die! He can't die! He must have escaped somehow!" And then final shots of season 2(Megatron and Starscream on autobot logo followed by Optimus' hand sticking out of the wreck) were shown. And yet i still was in denial untill season 3 where we actually saw Optimus die. Even for a bit, but we saw it. And oh boy if it had some real impact.
      Hasbro knew exactly when the show should be released. And that probably was a reason for them to hurry up the production. And, looking at how well show did, i can say that they were right. Even if do wish show didn't went through such hell of a production, i can't deny the role it played in me becoming who i am today.
      I can go on all day about why this specific series gained so much popularity, but to summarise everything said earlier: The success of the show was purely determined by the fact that this show appeared just at the right time and with just the right tone for new generation of transformers fans after first two Bayverse movies

    Ignoring the varying levels of quality of its different projects and stories, it felt like there wasn’t a concerted effort to keep things consistent in terms of continuity, resulting in a LOT of details not lining up (e.g. Starscream knowing about Dark Energon in WfC when in Prime he says it’s a legend, Prime stating it was Orion being granted the Matrix that transformed him into Optimus Prime when WfC establishes he was already called Optimus by other Autobots, characters from Prime showing up at the end of the Beast Hunters comic, itself a sequel/follow-up to FoC, and the coup de gras… RiD 2015).

    G1 had a false start, Beast Wars was 3, Machines and RID/Car Robots had 2, the Unicron Trilogy were one long season each, Animated was 3, Prime was 3 + a movie, RID/Adventure & Cyberverse had 3.
    The ONLY show with 4 full seasons was Rescue Bots of all things, likely due to its success as a preschooler series, which is also why several people discount it as a "proper" show. It's sequel of Rescue Bots Academy had only 2, the first to do so since RID/Car Robots.

    I grew up with TFP and it was the 1st Transformers anything I have ever watched. To me, it is the greatest thing ever. No other Trnasformers show captures the whole lore behind their stories and presents in such a mature and realistic way as TFP. I love the more cartoonish Transformers generations but this one has something about it that has your attention. Its serious enough to have a strict storyline that means something and to have a high quality in storytelling but not enough to make you sit there and turn you away from it after some time, only cuz its just like those other TV shows that mature and serious and with good quality where they lose you after a season. TFP keeps up with audience and makes you wanna watch more. I wish they made a TFP prequel where we see the early days of Cybertron, the war and everything. No other Transformers show showed the lore behind their current status on Earth and that is just sad. Because most people don't know how the system worked and that Megatron was a slave and why he even tried to do something about changing the system. TFP is thr only one who focused on lore and still held attention and I want more of that so bad. Why not do a prequel of the War of Cybertron. Just like TFP. It would be so good.

    My biggest problem with Prime is... Honestly, it felt like there was never any meaningful or lasting character development. Heck, Smokescreen was easily the best character in the entire show, but after the Season 3 premiere, any interesting stuff with his character was dropped and never brought up again.
    You know it’s a problem when Rescue Bots (Which is actually really good) has more consistent character development and quality than Prime did.
    And then there’s one of my least favorite characters in TF history... Miko. I know this character has her fans, but I just don’t like her. Mainly because she *never* *learns* and *never* *grows* as a character. Heck, when originally watching the show, I was actively *rooting* for the Decepticons to just kill her in the Season 2 finale. Honestly, I think even the writers knew the fans hated her character because in Season 3, they had that whole nonsense of Miko somehow being able to put on the Exo-Armor despite nothing being established that the armor was compatible with an organic being.
    Sorry for the rant. I just don’t like Miko.

    RUclips just recommended me this video and I'm glad it it.
    To be honest, TFP was my favorite Transformers series (and it still is).
    I will quickly summarize some pros and cons :
    Pros :
    -greatly designed (and rendered) models (especially bots like Megatron, Arcee, Dreadwing/Skyquake) ;
    -dialogues ;
    -the first 5 episodes were of the highest quality ;
    -agent Fowler ;
    -how great they developed the characters, especially the decepticons (this Megatron might be one of the best versions , also people love Knockout and Soundwave) ;
    Cons :
    -empty universe , no atmosphere most of the time ;
    -the humans are rendered horribly in comparison to the bots (agent Fowler looks fine I guess, Cylas and agent Bryce too, but the kids? where are the eyebrows? why their eyes look like plastic?) ;
    -the human kids, while not the worst, were sometimes pretty annoying ;
    -no physics at all during the fights, the robots jump and stay in the air like they have no weight or there is no gravity, they don't create momentum to launch their punches ;
    -the vehicons getting so weak that Arcee can destroy a squad of 10 is weird, considering the first two in episode 1 were able to almost destroy Arcee and Bumblebee in a 2v2 (and even showed intelligence/fear when they got outnumbered when Bulkhead joined) ;
    -bad decisions regarding Breakdown/Cylas/Skyquake , MECH appeared as such a serious and menacing human villain, only to turn into some filler side quest later on ;
    -if they decided to put plastic sticks instead of humans, they could've put a bit more I guess ;
    -the shining on characters looks so horrible sometimes...

    For those of you unfamiliar with Warhammer 40k, this sounds a lot like they wanted to turn their Primes from Transformers into the Primarchs from 40k, how each Prime/Primarch came from a world that wasn't Earth/Cybertron. For example, Mortarion, the Primarch of the Death Guard and my personal favorite Primarch, came from Barbarus, so Megatronus Prime, my personal favorite Prime, could come from some volcanic world.

    Although behind the scene of TFP is a mess, surprisingly the show itself is so good, story is pretty much great, but some of them just goofy, like Skyquake couldn't transformed because he hadn't scan a vehicle mode despite he could just transform into his cybertronian mode.

    Wow this honestly explains a lot and it’s a miracle this show is as good as it is! I can’t fathom turning around an entire season in 10 months! Another great video man!

    Damn, for a show I grew up enjoying, I’m with you, I’m surprised the show turned out how it did despite the trouble going on behind the scenes

    I can say this as someone who watched this show as a tot:
    All these issues, and it still wound up painfully dull.
    Now with that said, the piranhacon fan base is about to come after me so I won't be for long for this world.

    I think it was more thr studio's fault than Hasbro's. They made a lore bible, they had a vision, but these idiot creators wanted Bayformers: The Animated Series and Bayformers is universally the worst iteration.
    I also distinctly remember the creators saying there would be a fourth season, but Hasbro cut them off and gave it to MLP instead, which made them more money, what's cheaper to produce and gave them less trouble. Prime was also criticized for being too scary for young children hence the creation of rescue bots. It was a sister show to the series; something the little / sensitive kids could watch without upset.
    It's such a shame that this amazing show got its knee shot out right out of the starting gate. I really wish that they would invest in a revival that continues the story from where it left off in season 2 and organically graduates to the Beast War saga if at all.
