I am in the process of making this. Almost done framing. Just modified the height of each shelf and one less shelf for my specific needs. Great template and love the mobility, I’m gonna need it in my small garage.
Nice. When you went to the wheels you took all of the bass suppo😢rt and concentrated it 🎉to the corners on the wheels. I would add another set of wheels in the middle at minimum and if you have a lot of weight on the bottom Shelf I would add two more sets of Wheels at 2 ft 8 in spacing
wow, I never would have thought about doing it that way. About to build shelves in my son's workshop and this looks much easier than I thought it would be. love your site and by your accent I believe you live in the South.
I’m not very handy but I always wonder if the fasteners will be enough to support the weight put on the shelves. I’ll be giving this a try this weekend. Thanks!
Hell for stout. Probably going to collect rocks and engine blocks, huh? I've regretted going more than 16" wide and 6' high... well, taller is okay for big boxes of Christmas decorations. Also, 16" or so height is good for 5 gallon buckets on the bottom and narrower, like 8 or 10"spacing, is nice at eye or chest level for heavy and little stuff. Of course, that's just for what I've got stashed. Nice video. Your helper is a hoot.
Great video. I made similar shelves but mine were stationary. I'm making new ones in the new house and definitely doing them with the casters this time. I can't believe I never thought of that. Also, if you're having the kiddos help, that's incredible but I highly recommend putting a respirator on them even if it's just a two minute situation.
Spent 700 bucks today on enough wood and screws to make 2 shelves at Home Depot! They ripped the 6 pieces of plywood in half for free. Oh well. Should be fun making theses tomorrow. Thanks for the plans. My buddy said I didn’t need plans. But for the price and your efforts, can’t go wrong.
Do you know what weight each shelves sections can hold? Didn’t need to make support brackets on each corner for more support? No bent in middle - vertical support? Thanks
In my opinion, all of the load is being carried by the screws being used to support each shelf. If supporting spacers (say 20" in length) were used under each shelf, then the load would be evenly transferred vertically through the supports down to the floor rather than horizontally through the screws. With that said, I did download the plans from Etsy and am using them as a guide for my cut list.
I’d worry the middle will sag, by adding a center brace the back won’t sit flush against the wall unless it’s on the inside which would compromise the shelves without notching ea one.
From where his finished, You could always cut supports to sit between each shelf and put castors in the middle at the bottom, only thing it would be compromising is the wide open access to the shelves (width of the open gap would be split into two)
@@Adjum84 That would work too. I’ve made similar shelving, although what he has done is very good and simple, I made mine shorter apx. 76” long and used GRX #10 3-1//2” screws making the chance of sag minimal. I also notched the plywood around the end 2x4 end uprights. He used 3/4” plywood so that alone will help stability.
Is there any concern about sagging on each shelf? What do you think about placing another length of 2 x 4 straight down the middle under each shelf as to help prevent sagging rather than all those boards going across? Thanks.
Looks good, easy. Question, the plan have to be purchased, it seems that its on a ESTY site. ESTY is owned by China. Do the plans come from China ? Thanks..
Just skimmed the Wikipedia article about Etsy.I don’t say that is the ideal source. But it says it was founded and s headquartered I USA, is publicly traded on USA exchanges, and did not mention a big Chinese ownership stake.
Question please...do you know the weight capacity or sag rate per shelf or per unit? Asking as I will be using this design for canning jars and supplies. In my garage. Before I buy plans I was wondering if you have this information ? Thank you!
LOL i have 0 brand loyalty when it comes to tools. youll see a vast mixture in my shop however my cordless stuff is always porter cable or dewalt because thats the batteries i already have.
I spent around $200 but The answer to that will change daily. Take a look at the plans in the description and look up the board prices at your local store.
Sorry, but too much reliance on screws into end grain for my comfort. Will it work? Sure. Is there a better way? Yes. With just a small modification this can be avoided entirely, except for the mid span cross braces of course.
While I did add a short cleat to rest the shelf frames upon, that was mostly so I could lift them up and set them there without a second pair of hands assisting me, as I had to build them in place upright.. What I did was basically rotate the four corner uprights 90 degrees, move the outward most shelf cross pieces inboard by 3 1/2 inches and screw the face of the frames into the face of the corner uprights. If that makes sense. It was similar to this video linkruclips.net/video/FeMjxGD6UvY/видео.html , but I did not bother with the pocket screws. @@a29miller
@DeFrisselle nothing flimsy or weak about this my friend! Can easily hold several hundred lbs per shelf! AND You could always add a 3rd leg in the middle if you think you need the extra support there.
That look your boy gave ya when using the orbital was priceless.haha. "Like this Dad??"
I love how you let your kids be involved. My dad did and still does that with me
You got me over my brain lock. As I get older it's hard for my mind to picture things. Thanks for the rescue.

Super easy and no fluff! Thanks for the video - always happy to support a fellow patriot.

Simple! Keep the 2x4's on the ends and no notching the plywood around posts or even cutting it to length! Thanks! 🙂
Just what I needed for some extra storage in my shop! And, easily customizable width wise to fit custom spaces! Thanks Sir!

70 bucks I hope! if not lumber is crazy again
700! You will get two of the Costco ones for cheaper then.

Very nice build. Finding straight lumber is the biggest challenge in my area. 🥨🌲
Is it pressure treated wood? I want to build one for my basement with concrete floors
@eddiethompson5007 it's not, mine doesnt contact the concrete. but you could definatly use pressure treated if you want.
Great craftsmanship 💯👏🏻

Definatly couldn't hurt! Especially if you are putting alot of weight on it!
Thanks, Bud. Great video!@@PatriotDIY
Could also use very similar plans to build 2 units, but only 4ft wide. Cuts down the span that has to be supported and more flex for space/movement

Etsy was founded by NewYorkers and is now publically traded. But I created the plans myself. I'm in NC right here in the good ole USA

I have a question. Where does one find the miter saw table. I like the stopper to cut the 2x4’s exactly the same length.

Awesome Job !!!
Love this. Amazing
Great video. How much weight would you estimate that these shelves can hold each?
Great video looking to make one like this for my garage how wide u went with ur braces
What would you say is the capacity of this shelf?
On your plans you did not mention what thickness of plywood to get. Please let me know what you recommend. Thanks!
I used 3/4.
@@PatriotDIY Thank you so much for the reply!
Great video. Did you use only 3 screws to mount the casters?
Yes just 3

I couldn't tell you exactly but it is several hundreds of pounds per shelf. You could always add a 3rd center leg to increase that even more.
Do you have a bookshelf video? Or build plan?
Not yet
looks good. great job
Can you move it with it full of stuff? Also thanks for sharing. Looks awesome.
Yes, but depends on what the stuff is lol
How heavy is the whole unit itself?
Great work
When you buy the plans, are they downloaded, or do you mail them?
Downloaded
What spacing is the shelves shown in the video
i like it ...keep up the good work
How much was everything for your built

5$ for plans to build a simple shelf lol
