Jacob you are a perfect example of someone who can work alone and still get the job done. For many years I have come up with different ways to get the job done by myself when help wasn’t available. It goes even faster when you have help. You guys really get things done. I never miss a video. Thanks for sharing all this.
The only way I can get a job done is by myself!😂🤣 When I did HVAC, I used to work weekends because no one would be in my way. I could finish twice the work in half the time. 👍
the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Thank you soo very much Jacob! I finally got around to completing this project over the weekend and it turned out fantastic. I did it by myself and it took around 5 hours, as I don’t have much experience in building, and have never done anything like this by myself. I couldn’t have done it without your tricks and tips, and when I explained to friends and family how I did this with no helper and in a single day, they were all amazed. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I have made these in the past based off an older video yinz did. They are so simple, yet so great. I use the kreg for joining the supports to rear horizontal 2x4. Big box store offers 2 cuts for free at the panel saw so I have them rip my OSB there, saves me a step. Thanks for great ideas and plans!
My new house is just weeks away from being move in ready! I watched all of your garage shelving videos and decided your way was exactly how to do it. I told my daughter how simple you made it and had her watch the video. Before you got to the part where you barely screwed in the horizontal 2x4s to the ones attached to the wall she said "I don't know what the big deal is." Kids right? Then she realized what you were doing and I could tell she was impressed and she said "That is so smart!!" When she builds her first set of shelves I guarantee you she will do it the exact same way. Thanks you guys!!
What I like to do when I rip plywood is to screw on a board to ride the saw against so I don't even need to eyeball the cut line at all during cutting. Very ingenious method! Love it! Will be using this in my fam's garage!
Oh thank you thank you thank you! I'm a lone carpenter and that means coming up with ways to move things from point A to B and how to hold them still and in place while you work on 'em. This info was just the ticket. Bless both of you and your family and friends! 💟🦌🦉🐱
With Ryan's ruclips.net/user/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
You're really posting a link to some shitty and totally overprized shed plans on this channel where you're getting excellent advise for free???!!! You're downright brazen!
Thanks for the concept. I built this in our garage 3 years ago and it's been great - now I need to build a second set! I adapted your idea to make it easier and avoid toeing in screws at the shelf ends, something I wasn't comfortable doing. Instead, I placed the shelf support ends outside the parallel front & back pieces. In this way, I was able to screw straight into the longer supports. Much easier!
You two have grown so much especially Jacob since you started with your ‘Mom’ houses. More vibrant screen delivery and presentation. Good job on the house and projects. Great job on the kids and channel.
What a wonderful teacher Jacob is. Very nice & looked pretty simple. I know it was hard work though. That plywood is not light. Now I know how to build shelves all by myself thanks to y'alls help & instructions & design by Ana White. I would like to try this sometime when my husband is off fishing one night. Ha, wouldn't he be surprised when he came back from fishing. Then if I told him I did it all by myself he would probably say, ha, your Mother helped you hold those boards up for you. Then I could say ha, your wrong sucker..... lol.... Thanks again guys. Your the best, Chris from Missouri
I've made two sets of shelves so far for my mothers huge garage. Watching this again as a refresher since I'll be building some up in my garage this weekend. I had home depot do the big cuts for me which saved a lot of time and mess. Thanks so much for sharing the knowledge man!
Thank you so much for this video! I built this yesterday. I got Castle Lumber yard here in Victoria, BC to cut the OSB to 20" lengths, so got 4 8 foot lengths from 2 sheets. Got me a dozen 2x6x8 boards and some screws. My wife got home just as I was removing the front support piece. I said watch the magic here. She held the front and I slid in all 4 20" sheets. Added some side supports and Voila! Really great way to build a shelf without back support boards. It looks great and it only took me 2 hours to build! This is without a doubt the best shelf building tip ever! Cheers
I used your design a few years ago for my garage. After several videos and much planning I took on the project. I installed them all by myself. The best thing I ever did. Thank you so much
Great design. I modified it using 8-foot 2×3 uprights and horizontals, 16-inch deep shelves of 3/8 ply cut at Lowe's. I put in 13-inch 2x3 supports between the horizontals every 2 feet. Really strong. Really easy for this novice. I put up 2 8-foot units, and as soon as I get the stuff up off the floor and onto the shelves, two more are going in. So glad I found your video. Thanks.
I just made these shelves last weekend I'm not any kind of carpenter and I did a little customization to fit my needs ....great video definitely was a confidence booster for me ...thank you!
Thank you so much! These are great shelves and showing how to do them solo, and with minimal tools, really helps! I know what I'll be doing next spring!
I used this and made some very similar shelves. They turned out great. I had a few issues such as a 3" sloping foundation lip on the bottom that made it difficult to line up the boards to take out. That was the hard part. But if I were to make again though I would make my shelves 32" wide instead of 24". I've found 24" is just not wide enough for me. Would require a couple extra 2x4's and sheets of osb for shelves but well worth it imo.
It never ceases to amaze me, as revealed here, that the original plumber “jury rigged” a shortcut so as cheaply but unprofessionally solder in a 1/2” homemade plug. A professional would use properly sized adapters. Thanks to your adding the threaded adapter, at least the future owner will benefit. Well done. Just FYI, my builder allowed the plumber to have that bibb BEFORE the home’s shutoff valve. To replace the spigot, the inconvenience is the result of unprofessional contractors. Thanks for your work.
P.S posted a comment about doing these shelves in my place in the UK “same principals but fixing to brick wall” and completed them they look exactly like yours only difference was took a little longer than thought, then said to myself, I’m 20yrs his senior, but still got it done with ease THANKYOU SO MUCH !
So smart. I am a self (Ana White) taught woodworker. I just got a circular saw and for some reason sparks fly when I use it. It was not super expensive Ryobi cordless. Is something wrong with it or me? I have built many things around our house using Ana's Plans over the years. Because of her I have been brave enough to use power tools at all. The miter saw changed everything because I was not cutting by hand anymore. And of course the Kreg jig and her plans and videos are all anyone needs to get started building! Thank you!
Ana is a good carpenter engineer, she figures out how to effectively and efficiently things works. You should do courses on how to use that software (I think it's called sketchup, not sure though).
I’ve watched your other videos on how to do these shelves but it was actually SUPER helpful to see how you do it by yourself. The tips/tricks were great!
I've been wanting to do these shelves ever since I first watched this video last year. I just completed mine today. Unfortunately, mine probably costs twice as much as yours did because of the outrageous lumber prices. The good thing is there is virtually no waste and I'm glad I finally got it done. Now, to get everything in my garage sorted out and make good use my new shelves. Thanks for the awesome video! 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing !! Your experience in wood working is a joy to watch. You made this shelving at a very affordable price. I think I'm going to try this one out. Thank you again 👍👍💖😊
PERFECT! Excellent, easy, inexpensive shelves! You guys really did a great job with the video too. I like that the first shelf build is detailed and then the second shelf build is time lapsed. Cute baby at the end. Thanks so much for sharing! 🤓👍🏼
So happy for this recommendation. Temporarily sistering the horizontal 2x4s and then attaching the verticals is just the tip I needed. I think I can do this now by myself. My shelves won't be as tall as yours. TFS👏👏👏
Just built a set of these for my garage. Brilliant design and so simple to erect. Only issue I had was my block walls being out of plum and some of the timber being cupped, but I now have a set of strong usable shelves that were all made out of scrap. Thank you for this.
I did something VERY similar in my basement 10 years ago. The inside 2x4's were being screwed to the concrete walls and so I had to predrill holes and use concrete screws. I also used treated 2x4's to mount to the concrete walls and regular 2x4's for everything else. One other thing I did was routed a lip on the inside of the 2x4's to set the OSB into so that the edges were hidden and protected by the 2x4's. Putting things on and taking things off the shelves, over time, would tear the OSB edges up.
Yes I was also thinking to predrill the holes that goes into the concrete walls and use concrete screws for those ones then use wooden screws for the wood
Thank you for sharing the plan. Old newbie here. Finally did this, but took a while, and was not easy on my wrist! Making the pocket holes on the cleats was the hardest part for me. Needed a better drill. Perhaps practice before embarking.
You have the one video that's informative to the project at hand by thoroughly explaining how to do it without all the unnecessary mumbo jumbo other videos have.
That’s an excellent video. Very impressed how you temporary fixed the horizontal pieces to the timber already on the back wall, which became the outer frame. Massive time saver 👌
thank you and your wife for this. i've used the method once and am about to use it again. very straightforward and your explanation was equally straightforward and easy to follow...well done.
I built something just like this a few years back when I did an add on to my shop/garage. It was cheap and not hard to do, however it would have been easier if I had used some of your tricks there. I shall be using those ideas when I do some shelves in my main garage in a little while. Thanks for the tips!
Don’t know how many of these vids I’ve seen doing this but I keep coming back to watch yours easily the most instructional one so on with mine in the morning “ UK time “ , might take a little longer bcos I’m screwing to brickwork, but all the same principals THANKS saved yours for sizes 👌
Awesome video. I think this is the best video I've seen on how to build your own garage shelving. You really took the complexity and mystery out of building a shelf. Thanks so much for this video. I will be using this to build my own.
Thanks, it’s a great video for a beginner like myself who doesn’t have a lot of the fancy tools. Appreciate how you explained everything. Thank you very much.
I just use a 2x2 for the back cleat. Just rip it down from a 2x4 to save money. It would save 4 2x4x12 on this project. Also, the audience needs to know to never use drywall screws on structural stuff like the frame. Deck screws are fine, or a 16 penny spike has a shear strength of about 3000 Lbs. Great instruction on the video
Outstanding video. Finished two sets of shelves this weekend after watching this. Learned a lot along the way. Second set went up easier than the first.
Wow...now that is what I call a smart way to make use of the environment around you. I really liked the way you built the second stand. Quite a smart way to get it done.
That was really Awesome and i really wanted to make some shelving, it just looked so hard and such a huge task, but not now, you made it so easy and your shelves look so Awesome, Thanks for sharing.
11 years ago I built shelves like this in my 6x20 ft storage room built onto the back of our garage. Hubby did help me. We also built some in our workshop. They are very, simple, strong and inexpensive.
I just built my shelving last weekend. First thing I noticed is the lumber prices from this video have doubled and even almost tripled!! Glad to have the shelves though!
Thanks Ana for such a gr8 project. Just built this today. Took me 3 to 4 hrs to build it. Had the osb ripped at the store into 2ft x 4ft. Total cost came to 120$ CAD. Including osb and 2x4 x 8ft Few things 1) I cut the wood to 21.25 inch to allow for easy sliding of the 24inch wide osb. 2) use a Kreg jig adds about 1 hr to the project but is well worth it because it makes it easy to screw the 21.25 inch wood to the frame. 3) need to shimmy pieces of wood on the front side as garage is never level , but it is not a big deal. Has enough support and very sturdy. 4) when the front frame is verticle it is hard to put force . Hence there was a gap in some places. When the frame was taken out i had to rescrew them. 5) used 3inch screws to bolt 2x4 to wall and used 2 1/2 inch screws to screw 2x4 to 2x4.
Thank you, Jacob. Your Video just showed me HOW I can accomplish my Shelving without Extra hands! Wahooooo! This lady is headed to Lumber store! Yeah! I am a show Me kind of girl. “ I have GOT THIS” ⚒♨️⚒
Hey, @@AnaWhiteDIY It worked perfectly! Grabbed all the materials for about $200 and completed it in about 4 hours (my battery died). Other than that it worked perfectly, how do I know. My wife was please with the final outcome. 1 brownie point for me. Again thanks!

Quick and super user friendly!!! I just built these across the entire back of my garage and added doors. Thanks Ana and Jacob!

Exciting, so happy to help!
I remember when I built mine. The hubby took the kids to soccer practice and when he came back I was done. Love love Ana White plans
Wow really??
Awesome 👩🔧🛠👍🏽
You sir are an excellent teacher. Thank you.

I can't cut a straight line with a circular saw without a guide board. The cordless saw has to help but I always get the wobbles.
I do the same. Much easier
Oh thank you thank you thank you! I'm a lone carpenter and that means coming up with ways to move things from point A to B and how to hold them still and in place while you work on 'em. This info was just the ticket. Bless both of you and your family and friends! 💟🦌🦉🐱
It's nice to see these scaled up for the workshop. Thanks, Jacob, for illustrating that it's not just Ana who can build these!

Yes! Toenailing is hard. I did what you did and butt jointed the end pieces and screwed directly into the horizontal 2x4s.
You two have grown so much especially Jacob since you started with your ‘Mom’ houses. More vibrant screen delivery and presentation. Good job on the house and projects. Great job on the kids and channel.

Great to hear!
Built these same shelves
in my brothers garage after watching the first video of this, thank you
In two words THANK YOU!!!!
I needed something just like this.
Happy to help, thanks for the visit!
I remember you doing this in your garage. Nice, simple, inexpensive way to build shelving.
Great video and thumbs up !!

This is the quickest method out of several garage shelf videos!
I just made these shelves last weekend I'm not any kind of carpenter and I did a little customization to fit my needs ....great video definitely was a confidence booster for me ...thank you!
This method worked out excellent! It took me 2 years to get to this project but it's checked off my list. Thank you!
So glad to hear it turned out great!
Thank you so much! These are great shelves and showing how to do them solo, and with minimal tools, really helps! I know what I'll be doing next spring!
Awesome no nonsense instructional video. Thank you very much.🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Great idea for the shelves. This method could also be used to make bunk beds in a cabin. Simple, cheap and sturdy
You and Ana are amazing!. I'm so glad both of you are a part of your RUclips channel.
Thank you so much!

Thank you 👍👍!! very convenient and easy for someone who doesn't have much experience and kudos to your wife too.🙏
Our pleasure!
You’re so kind to pass along all of your brilliant building tips and designs. Thank you...awesome work and it looks fantastic!
P.S posted a comment about doing these shelves in my place in the UK “same principals but fixing to brick wall” and completed them they look exactly like yours only difference was took a little longer than thought, then said to myself, I’m 20yrs his senior, but still got it done with ease

Ana is a good carpenter engineer, she figures out how to effectively and efficiently things works. You should do courses on how to use that software (I think it's called sketchup, not sure though).
Good morning
I’ve watched your other videos on how to do these shelves but it was actually SUPER helpful to see how you do it by yourself. The tips/tricks were great!

Sweet! Yes, lumber prices are ridiculous right now...
My husband built shelves for my sewing/craft room this way! I love them!
Excellent tip. I will be renovating my store room. This presentation adds more clarity to what I was about to do. Great job. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Simply brilliant! Brilliant design, Ana, and brilliant instruction, Jacob! Thank you.
This is the best DIY video I ever seen, simple and easy. Thanks dude
Awesome!
By far the best instructional for utility shelves I've seen so far. I'm building a set this weekend and this is perfect. I love it. Nuff said.
Glad it was helpful!
I cannot thank you enough for posting this video. I have used this to make a number of shelves in my garage and others
You're very welcome!
I made some this week based off of your video and instructions. Thanks much for sharing!
Wonderful!
Best out of the 5 instructional videos I watched, thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful!

That's great to hear, thanks!
Love watching your plans come together and your whole family. You guys are amazing!
Thank you for sharing the plan. Old newbie here. Finally did this, but took a while, and was not easy on my wrist! Making the pocket holes on the cleats was the hardest part for me. Needed a better drill. Perhaps practice before embarking.
I'm glad you were successful!
You have the one video that's informative to the project at hand by thoroughly explaining how to do it without all the unnecessary mumbo jumbo other videos have.
Wow. Thanks for idea. We appreciate you and your family. Many blessings.
Thank you!
That’s an excellent video. Very impressed how you temporary fixed the horizontal pieces to the timber already on the back wall, which became the outer frame. Massive time saver 👌
Glad you like it, thanks for the visit!
VERY helpful! I'm not a professional and I've built several of these types of shelves. Lots of simple and useful tips in this video. Thanks.
Great work, I added a brace at the bottom of the legs back to the wall just in case the legs got knocked or hit.
thank you and your wife for this. i've used the method once and am about to use it again. very straightforward and your explanation was equally straightforward and easy to follow...well done.
I built something just like this a few years back when I did an add on to my shop/garage. It was cheap and not hard to do, however it would have been easier if I had used some of your tricks there. I shall be using those ideas when I do some shelves in my main garage in a little while. Thanks for the tips!
Fantastic!
Good video, explains the important stuff,, demonstrates clearly, doesn't waste time showing repeat steps (or adding theme music) Well done
I appreciate that!
Did this today, getting the garage back under control!
Don’t know how many of these vids I’ve seen doing this but I keep coming back to watch yours easily the most instructional one so on with mine in the morning “ UK time “ , might take a little longer bcos I’m screwing to brickwork, but all the same principals THANKS saved yours for sizes 👌
Excellent, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome instructional video! 100% going to get started this weekend with shelving in my garage! Thanks for the tips.
Great, happy to help!
Thank you very much for this video, there is no better one than this, great teacher taught the small details
Thanks for watching!
The technique of tacking the second 2x4 to build the outer frame was ingenious!
Glad you like it, thanks for the visit!
This is awesome! can't wait to try it. Have been looking for a quick easy way to build heavy duty shelves for my garage! Thank you for the video!!
Ana, you and Jacob made my project possible, on a budget I might add! Thank you!
Wonderful!
Outstanding video. Finished two sets of shelves this weekend after watching this. Learned a lot along the way. Second set went up easier than the first.
Fantastic!
Thanks so much, for sharing! I've built lots of shelves, but this is not only simple, it's quickly and easy!
Glad it was helpful!
Love this video! It shows how a project can be done with basic tools and a solo person. Thank you for that! ❤️🦋💜
Happy to help, thanks for the visit!
Wow...now that is what I call a smart way to make use of the environment around you. I really liked the way you built the second stand. Quite a smart way to get it done.
Thank you very much!
My brother-in-law & sister-in-law helped me build a similar storage shelves over 20 years ago. Still solid as the day we built it.
Wonderful!
Took me 4 hours, but wait, 2 1/2 cleaning up the area. Worked like a champ! Very sturdy thanks for the video. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent for a beginner like me. Thanks. Liked the music too.
You're welcome!
This is hands down the most informative video I have seen....thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the simplicity of this build. Thank you for showing me this. I appreciate it very much.
Glad to help!
That was really Awesome and i really wanted to make some shelving, it just looked so hard and such a huge task, but not now, you made it so easy and your shelves look so Awesome, Thanks for sharing.
You are a great teacher, you explain everything very well. You should do a video on, how to use and cut straight, with a circular saw.
Love this! Very thorough explanation, I’m going to try this project this weekend. Thank you!
Have fun!
We have used these shelves in our last 3 houses. They are awesome. So easy to build and very sturdy
Glad you like them!
Great looking shelves. I really like the details you verbally added, helps keep costs down for sure! Thanks for posting
A little late here. But this is exactly what we need in our garage. Simple shelving!! TY, for posting.
Great! Thanks for watching:)
11 years ago I built shelves like this in my 6x20 ft storage room built onto the back of our garage. Hubby did help me. We also built some in our workshop. They are very, simple, strong and inexpensive.
That is awesome!
Thank you! Doing garage shelving this coming week and won't have any assistance so have borrowed some very useful ideas from your project.
Great to hear! Happy building:)
I just built my shelving last weekend. First thing I noticed is the lumber prices from this video have doubled and even almost tripled!! Glad to have the shelves though!

Jacob, I just built four of these shelves using your technique. After the first one, the others were a breeze. Thanks for the tip.

Brilliant!! Thanks! This is by far the best and easy shelving technique I've seen. Now I have to get to build this asap!
Glad it was helpful!
@@AnaWhiteDIY it was! I built one today in my garage like a pro! Its great! I’m back here to say Thank You!!!
Great Job. Loved it.
Question is how to i know how many 2x4 am i suppose to buy.? as well as plywood sheets too!
Thanks Ana for such a gr8 project.
Just built this today. Took me 3 to 4 hrs to build it.
Had the osb ripped at the store into 2ft x 4ft. Total cost came to 120$ CAD. Including osb and 2x4 x 8ft
Few things
1) I cut the wood to 21.25 inch to allow for easy sliding of the 24inch wide osb.
Sweet!
Thank you, Jacob. Your Video just showed me HOW I can accomplish my Shelving without Extra hands! Wahooooo! This lady is headed to Lumber store! Yeah! I am a show Me kind of girl. “ I have GOT THIS” ⚒♨️⚒
No problem with the audio at my end. Quick and a strong build. 👍👍
What type of screws are you using?
AWESOME!!! Thanks so much. On my way to the hardware store right now. It will be a great weekend.
Happy to help!
