There's nothing wrong with appreciating excellence and Josh, although a good musician, was a mediocre guitarist who only got the job because he was friends with the band. Don't get me wrong, he's a lovely guy but I think John would have gotten back with the band sooner had they not carried on without him (Josh even mentions that John was shocked they decided to continue without him and he was a bit resentful).
Hist style is clearly not too RHCP if that makes sense, but man, do I love Josh, his own style is amazing, he's an awesome guitarrist, glad to see others love him too!

Absolutely. Josh is an incredible guitarist and performer. It's just that there's a difference between being an amazing guitarist and being one of the greatest guitarists in history of music. That's all.
He was hampered by Rick Rubin. Rubin has a very long relationship with the band and Klinghoffer was the new kid. Rubin didn't care to include him in the decision making. That's why I think the Getaway was better. The b-sides from I'm With You are much more interesting, but Rubin pretty much chose what would make it onto the actual album. Too bad. But definitely check out those b-sides.

I cant think of any other bands with 4 epic guitarists. Hillel laid the groundwork. John took them to new heights. Multiple times. Dave made them heavier and more psychedelic . Josh saved them and rejuvenated them.
As a shy quiet person myself I cant imagine joining a big band like rhcp and having to play and sing in front of those crowds I would having panic attacks all the time credit to josh for being a high quality guitarist even though he is extremely shy
Josh is an excellent musician, awesome guy. Everybody loves him. But his writing especially when compared to John... Flea and John had something special. And you could hear it.

Dave is legitimately the best guitarist they’ve had. He’s leagues above John and Josh tbh. But in terms of RHCP and their funk/alt styles, it didn’t really blend well. I LOVE OHM (second fav) but at points it sounds like Janes Addiction with Anthony on vocals. John and Josh are better fits
