Flea is one of few people in this world that can be asked what he did at work today and he can honestly go "I let another guy do my job while I played trumpet in my underwear." and then be asked if he got fired and say "No, everyone was into it. I just do that sometimes."
JICM25 and these explain the Flea transition to funk : Funk is based on Jazz notes structured over 4/4 signature beat (on difference of Jazz that have a 8/8 beat format).
Flea even share sometimes with the great Chet Baker, talking about music and other stuffs, so definitely flea knows a lot about jazz, I think that listen to jazz gave to flea a lot more resources for create some badass bass lines, sorry for my english
If you didn’t know, in ‘Breaking a girl’ that percussion music towards the end is played with what they found in garbage. It’s shown in their documentary Funky Monks.
Yeah, me neither! I was just trying to imagine! And it's how I pictured it so many times! Cuz I think a good guitarist is definitely a good bassist as well!
Vigi And takes a bit more strength in order to handle the distance between the frets, yeah? :) It's all just technical though! Mentally, it's the same thing!
Flora Mirabilis Yeah Ive heard a lot of people SAY that but when it comes down to it they re either just good at playing really simple stuff of just plain playing it like a guitar. Id like to see any 'good' guitarist play something by Victor Wooten or Paul Chambers
in a certain way, when John plays bass, he puts even more hendrix style in it. Those 2 have such a connection ; only musicians have that universal connection each other, and they are masters of their style. You just cant duplicate that particular chemistry.
Was at this show, and somehow forgot about this moment until today. I have a long story I commented on the full live show RUclips video, but this show was life changing. Went the year before my highschool freshman year started, barely got to go, had a blast watching all the bands, and met Anthony right before getting to the airport and he took a picture with me. I was absolutely obsessed with the band, listening to every album extensively, interviews, you name it. Who woulda thought a rare moment like John playing bass live was unique to my show!
kevin willis: ...almost felt like I was listening to Miles Davis -- Flea's no Miles Davis, but he's an amazing trumpeter for a rock musician known almost exclusively for his skills on bass. As great a bassist as he is (and he very much is -- still one of the best in the industry!), he's even more talented on trumpet, in my opinion. He's much more emotionally-expressive on it, his first instrument by the way, than he is on bass, exhibiting a broader range and depth of feeling in how he delivers the notes on trumpet than he does on bass.
Getting a real Miles Davis-esque vibe from Flea’s trumpet style - wouldn’t be surprised if he was a fan; what a cool thing to bust out at a concert, especially for a crowd probably not that aware of/into jazz. So cool how varied most musicians’ influences/inspirations can be.
Omg I can’t believe I found this performance on RUclips. I was at this show in Vegas in ‘05. I remember it was around the 4th of July and it was like 100 degrees and I was shirtless in the crowd sweating my ass off. It was in the soccer field of the Las Vegas university. It was supposed to be a free show but I some how ended up paying $25 for my ticket. I remember recording this trumpet tune on my high tech Sony video phone from ‘05 that had a memory card. I haven’t seen this in literally 13 years. So glad someone posted this!
I watch this often Transports me to a magical, soothing place The Milky Way embraces me and dissolves my entire existence into a few wisps of matter that float gently down into the void
Any guitarist can play bass in some way but they play it like a guitarist not like a bassist. To be honest he's just playing the same things he would play on a guitar easily so this really doesn't surprise me in any way
I went to that concert it was free and celebrating 100 years of Vegas being a city Weezer opened up for them it was awesome. There were so many people there and the fireworks at the end were off the chart cool just like the 🌶 peppers!!!!
I was at this show. There were 45 thousand people in attendance and the Las Vegas Metro Police were riding horses through the crowd. The horses got really scared by all the people and the lights and fireworks and started kicking people and head butting them. The show was INSANE. Weezer was there too

Up !!!
😂😂
I can literally hear him in my head saying that last line!
This is so normal for Flea, that I literally didn't clue into the fact that he was in just his underwear until I read this.
@@MahRiiN0oo same
Came to see Frusciante playing bass, stayed to watch this virtuoso and magnificent trumpet solo.
Me too
Came to see flea in his Y fronts!
I love how Johns way of playing bass is so similar to his guitar style
eso mismo pense jajajaaj
al guitarists are like this the bass is just a guitar an octave lower
@@mikenewbold1699they don't get the role a bass has in a band.
@@saemikneu they do get what bass brings to a band and why it is so important but that doesn’t mean that they know how to play it that way
frusciante has been practicing bass a lot at that time and thanks to that he wrote basslines to c’mon girl, readymade etc
to those that don´t know, Flea started on Trumpet and he was, and still is very good, and he played jazz
It's actually the only one of flea's trumpet moments that I enjoyed. the ones with flea + chad on drums don't work well in my opinion.

A match made in heaven.
?
Give these two a refrigerator and an oven and they will manage to make music. Geniuses!
John, Flea and Chad had an unbelievable connection.
is this extracts of songs or are they improvising?
Omar Levano a jam
in this case it's a trumpet & a bass..
If you didn’t know, in ‘Breaking a girl’ that percussion music towards the end is played with what they found in garbage. It’s shown in their documentary Funky Monks.
you can hear the grooves john is play are some of his own guitar grooves just transposed to bass. badass
im eating a stale croissant and getting crumbs all over my bed at 3am
godspeed
This is it. This is the comment I’ve been searching for since RUclips started in 2005.
Lol relatable
this is a piece of heaven, look how they feel the music
I've never seen John play bass before.
Yeah, me neither! I was just trying to imagine! And it's how I pictured it so many times! Cuz I think a good guitarist is definitely a good bassist as well!
Flora Mirabilis Yeah, definitely. Same thing but no E and B string. :) I think the main difference is the right hand.

1:51 at 1,75 speed the bass sounds like Murderers by John Frusciante
Everybody talking about John’s bass playing but maaan, them flea’s trumpet licks are thiccc
I still listen to this daily
In February 2020
Never ever!, doubt the musical; majestical, achievement, of this band!
Was I the only one that came here just to see john play the bass?
+Seth Pulliam nope, because that information is in the title
wavestrings: They should ask him to rejoin the band on bass and make Flea the full-time trumpet-player.
Both
Can this whole "Am I the only one..." shit just stop please, no obviously you are not the only one since that's what everybody else is here for
It looks weird with him on bass
Seeing my guitar idol John play the bass is surreal.
Even when he was joking around, Frusciante made some beatiful music... Damn, I miss him
Daniel Leal he wasn't joking, do you know a type of music called jazz?
We miss him
He is back in the rhcp
Well no more bro 😂❤,coz Fru is back 😮

Man I could listen to this for 10 minutes straight
Who's seeing this in 2019? RHCP and John ❤️
JSaint1999 Me! And I was thinking that I was the only. But here we are, looking for John like a god. Long live the king Frusciante. @frusciante_brazil

Man these guys are born for this shit
this is so beautiful
Flea tocando trompete é INCRÍVEL
E John no baixo, cara, eu nem sabia que ele também tocava
Ele tem um baixo raríssimo na casa dele, além de algumas faixas do The Empyrieam ele mesmo gravou com o próprio baixo
This is so beautiful in many aspects
i had no idea john played the bass, he's very good at it

Back together as of 15th December 2019. I hope they make beautiful music again. Not the commercial stuff. The magic stuff like this.

God I love when these two improvise together.
Yes! Finally! Now you can hear it

Amazing musicians !
esto vale una fortuna *--*
This bass line could easily been in one of the solo stuff of john
is it just me or is strumming chords on bass badass
even in his bass playing you can hear melody
''Every dream has a meaning''
My dreams:
Fcking Epic video!! and that underwear, Flea xDDDDDD

Its amazing how you can change the instrument of a musician, but if he has his own magic, he will still sond the same
love it!
I miss john
i wish i was there...:(
HOT! HOT! HOT!!!
PLEASE READ THIS, at minute 1:53 it seems to play "MURDERERS"

John plays bass as a guitarist does.
