Edit: I say in this video that Highgate is in West London and not North London! I can only think it's because we were talking off camera about the East and WEST side of the cemetery itself, so apologies for the confusion.

I remember watching them, albeit without my parents permission, when I was much younger. Christopher Lee was the master to many people when it came to playing Dracula, but then again, Bela Lugosi is possibly my favourite.

I'd have loved to have been on set during the filming of these movies. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing two absolute legends and to see them in costume doing their thing would have been a dream to watch.

I grew up watching Hammer Horror movies, I love them to this day. Your right graveyards are beautiful especially this one you've visited. I live I Glasgow and we have the Glasgow Necropolis which is nice, but Edinburgh has a beautiful graveyard, the headstones have carved skeleton and Angel's, stunning, but I think they are beautiful because of the description on them, the whole life is etched in them. I would love to visit Highgate cemetery one day, just to visit though not as a permanent resident.❤😂😂

St. Michaels church in Dumfries has an amazing graveyard. We were there last summer to visit Robert Burns' mausoleum. It is not a large churchyard, but contains enormous memorials, which are very old, mostly forgotten now, and very, very 'Gothic'. Kind regards from Shropshire, England.

We loved where we visited in London. I know it gets a bad rap with the many homeless people and the begging, we got stopped a few times, but it's no different than other cities. Also crime doesn't help, but again, no different to anywhere else. People we spoke with where all extremely pleasant and friendly. We are going back to film something different sometime this year and cannot wait 😁

Out of curiosity, I googled Julius Beer, he was a German born businessman and newspaper baron who owned the Observer from 1870 to 1880. The monument is a memorial to his daughter Ada who died aged 8 in 1875 in the Scarlet fever epidemic. Inside there is a sculpture of an angel raising Ada to heaven.

We hear more stories of cremations becoming more the norm nowaways which for me is quite sad. Headstones and visiting graveyards where people are interred are fascinating places to visit and each headstone tells its very own story. Imagine how many of these 'stories' could be shared and spoke about with just a little bit of research. Whereas a cremation, in a weird way and unless your a family member or relative, kind-of erases these stories as most of us will never get to know the people, if that makes any sense.

I grew up in a house that backed onto this cemetery, so we walked through our garden gate directly into it and we walked our dogs round it two and three times a day now this is back in the late 1960s early 70s when it was open to the public, a real overgrown Paradise for kids to play in really and it was fascinating. I can still remember a lot of the catacombs being open you could see the coffins. Unfortunately a lot of grave robbers have come for the lead so The remains of the entered person but tipped on the floor and the coffee was gone because it was lining lead. I also remember a lot as magnificent Marble busts carved in the Effigy of the deceased person . One grave that always comes to mind that was the first one near our garden gate, the tombstone read he lays here Assassinated at work by a traitor, who was shortly hung after

Yeah it's open to the public and not just to tours 👍 Even though it may look quiet in the video, we tried to just film when no-one was near us. We spent an age at some graves as a lot of people had gathered, such as the George Michael grave and the Ian Holm one. We did video other famous graves but we just had too many people walking in front of the camera and it did spoil it at times. I understand though that these graves of famous people will always attract crowds, so fair enough I guess. But it isn't cheap to go into the grounds. £10 per person for both East and West sides or £6 each just for the eastern section. You cannot pay for just the West on its own, which I found a little strange.

I think Highgate Cemetery differs from most larger cemeteries is due to the number of structures, levels and woodland area which gives the location even more spookiness. You are from the North West, Southern cemetery, Stockport has over 360,000 burials compared to Highgate's 170,000. Great video!

@@DaysofHorror Apologies - after I posted I did think you must be talking about the West side of the cemetery (as you know, it's huge!)
I once met actress Sheila Gish as a young TV researcher on a chat show she guested on. A charming, warm and kind-hearted lady. She was known not only for her great acting talent, but also for her remarkable beauty, style and sex appeal. Tragically she was diagnosed with a rare form of facial skin cancer in her late 50s, which robbed her of an eye, before it took her life at 62.
Anyone, but especially a star renowned for her good looks, as she was, would suffer a crisis of confidence with such a facial disfigurement. But Shelia's courage was incredible. She continued to act, and took a celebrated theatrical starring role onstage - wearing an eye patch - to great acclaim. What a woman!
I met Shelia Gish in the early 'nineties, at the height of her talent and sex appeal. She was unforgettable, and irresistible. I didn't think it possible she could rise even higher in my estimation. But the fact she picked herself up after such a devastating diagnosis and disfigurement, and stride into the spotlight once more to rave reviews, blew my mind.
She was so much more than just an (extraordinarily) pretty face - she had heart and soul, and the best qualities, of the best human beings. She was tiny in stature, but had the spirit of a lion. In short, she was a STAR. Immense respect to that wonderful lady.

Hi Ricky, thanks for watching. We were going to cover the Highgate Vampire story, that was in the works before we set off. But after recording the Camden Ripper prior to walking over to Highgate, and then seeing how busy the Cemetery was, we decided to hold back on the Vampire story for another visit. I know our video doesnt show that many people walking around, but we tried to film during areas when it was all clear. A lot of the famous graves had dozens of people all hanging around it was hard to film most of them. As for the filming locations, I never knew Tales from the Crypt and its titles were filmed there! I absolutely loved that tv series, so thanks for mentioning that.

He died in 1970 .I have all is cookery books and he should be mentioned as the first TV cook which sadly many wont remember him .I was only 6 yrs old when he died. i guess you will find more who are buried at Highgate on the net. At the beginning of your video the crypt you walked past on the corner (1:08)was originally glass topped. Supposedly Bram Stoker would sit by it looking down on the coffin and thus Dracula came to be born. The Beer crypt is built on the highest part of London. I think he was a newspaper owner and thus disliked by the wealthy of the time as he was self made.if you looked inside there is a stunning sculpture of his daughter who died young. He built it that big and on that spot to put 2 fingers up to all those who disliked him. Do they allow you to go to the other side of the road anymore?. That is quite an experience sinking into the river so looks weird. When we were kids we would play there in the 50-60. Nice video thanks for the memories. It’s north London by the way.

I don't think from memory that Ian Holmes is shown on the map. This could be because no one is allowed to enter that side of a gate he is buried on. Saying that, you can easily see his headstone without any obstructions. His grave is very close to George. Where George is on the corner of the pathway, and if you walk down a path on your left, about 100 meters at a guess, you will see a gate with a no entry sign on. This will be on your right hand side. Walk to the gate and Ian is there right in front.
