I think they didn't take her to a doctor because there is a _lot_ more to their story. A happy, socially-adjusted, extroverted girl suddenly has a drastic personality change in her early teens, then is pulled from school and never seen by her peers again? That sounds like a classic case of ''maltreatment'' (of the SA kind) from one or both parents, beginning in her early teens. They got worried she would talk, so pulled her from school, and locked her away. These cases have played out like this so many times (just usually without the severity of the demise) that I'm quite frankly shocked that anyone is believing what they say about her being ''severely disabled'' etc. We only have _their_ word for that, and why would believe people who would do something like this?? They didn't want her telling anyone what they were doing to her, which is why they didn't take her to a doctor. :/

At 14 on my bday I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and I had uncontrollable bloodsugars because they wouldn't get my medication on time and they did t really help teach me the importance of diabetes upkeep at that time I had already been suffering chronic depression and chronic anxiety but wasn't medicated or going to theraphy by then I had been self harming since i was 11. And because I never got treat ment for my depression and anxiety and never had stable blood sugars and they never got shoe supports for my flat feet. I ended up developing alot health problems at 17 but they never got me help I needed cuz my step mom just believed I was lactose intolerant but I wasn't able to digest Ramen noodles or cereal and yogurt. And she never got me testing Done so now I have several chronic mental disorders I struggle every day with suicidal and homicidal thoughts I have gastroparisis, arthritis, rethumatoid arthritis I'm going blind In my left eye and my right eye is starting to get worse. I also have fibromyalgia and my mental health affect my physical health and illnesses alot so I can't even work cuz it fucks with my anxiety cuz of my ocd and germ problems and it will make my fibro and gastro start acting up and so normally I'm in constant pain and puking up my guts and puking up blood sometimes.

While every case is tragic, this case is an absolute gut punch! I cannot even begin to imagine the extreme horror that poor girl endured for so many years!! I can only hope and pray that her mental state was so diminished that she wasn't aware of the horrific abuse that was done to her. So, you coming here 7 month after I made that comment and after more information has been released to the public, your comment telling me I need to research this case more because she wasn't as mentally impaired as her parents said is completely unnecessary as I, along with the whole world know all that now. You're not telling me a single thing that I don't already know. 7 months ago those facts were not available to the public and that's when I made the comment. My research went 5 months ago as soon as coroner came out with reports. But, I don't need him to tell me that even if she had a locked-in syndrome that girl was completely "conscious." I'm not specifically coming at you, my statement urges for research. I wrote to you but I hope many will read it and do more (including research on the claims that were made). Because people still claim that this is neglect as if it's 100% true, people are still keeping old videos that claim she has locked-in syndrome, and the majority eats it up. I am positive her parents did this on purpose and this statement doesn't get any power in comparison to "neglect." No motives are discussed for high potential of intentional ill.

I don't believe she had any disorder at all. She was happy and well-adjusted then went through a drastic personality change and was pulled from school soon after. We see that same pattern time and time again in cases where one or both parents have suddenly started 'maltreating' (SA) the child. They didn't want anyone to know so weren't going to take her to a doc, and are lying to this day by claiming she was 'severely disabled' etc. She may have _become_ disabled (ie unable to walk properly etc, and very mentally unwell) as a result of what they were doing to her. But it was entirely _their_ doing. It wasn't due to any 'condition' inherent within her as everyone seems to be believing.

For what it's worth, her mother claimed Lacey ate half a sandwich and some Cheetos before her passing (which we know was untrue due to what I mentioned in the first comment) but even by her mother's own narrative she couldn't have had Locked-In Syndrome. I suspect this has a lot to do with not having said perspective shaped by modern media and psychology, and its exposure of peoples' real lives.

It's the banality of evil, really. True evil is, sad to say, incredibly banal.
We like to comfort ourselves by imagining some mustache twirling villain, swirling his cape, and grinning madly with frenzied eyes, or perhaps some meticulous beard stroking mastermind plotting sinister plots while chuckling to themselves about how great they are...
When in truth, evil is... normal. That's an extremely harsh and unnerving reality people don't want to face because it calls into question a lot of reassuring things, comfortable masks, we wear to keep society pleasant.
But if you realize that evil is banal, you realize that any otherwise pleasant person could be capable of the most horrific acts of cruely, which calls yourself into question as well of course, and then when those evil deeds are done the otherwise normal person doing them fails to even realize the evil.
That people can do such horrific things and not recognize the horror of it is somehow a lot more scary than someone doing the horrible things and cackling while lightning strikes in the background about how horrible it is. We like to imagine people can simply recognize evil inherently, and realizing that oftentimes we can't is an existential horror difficult to put into words. it's one of the harshest lessons learned shortly after the Nazi regime collapsed.. and just as quickly forgotten by most.

They also claimed she was severely autistic and had social anxiety, so I was wondering if the person who knew her as kids noticed these things about her as they’re not really things that worsen with time so she would have always had them. At the same time of claiming she had autism, anxiety and locked in syndrome, the parents claimed she was of sound mind and chose to not leave the couch. Well which is it? I really hope this trial is allowed cameras and live streamed because I have so many unanswered questions and really want to see what the defense comes up with since it will have to make sense in a court of law and right now what the parents are saying, doesn’t make sense. It honestly makes me wonder if there was a _reason_ they kept her locked away and isolated, and I think people are reading way too much into the parent's explanations that she was 'severely disabled'.
She was socially well-adjusted, then had a drastic personality change before being pulled out of school. We see that time and time again in cases where a child is being 'maltreated' (of the SA kind) at home.
The parents were genuinely very scared of anyone finding out what they'd been doing to her, so locked her up and left her to rot (and the SA maltreatment probably continued for a long time). Now they are saying ''oh it's because of how disabled she was'' but we only have _their_ word for that, and why are any of us taking the word of people who would do something like this?
They are still protecting their own skins, and know her body was too deteriorated for there to be any proof of the years of SA.

I have seen MANY DECOMPOSED BODIES in service with the CAF on 2 tours of duty. I CAN'T IMAGINE what this would have looked like. A human mummification! You guys out there haven't a clue..and never would want to. During the Gulf series, we had come across a young girl, (12 yrs old), who'd been raped and tortured for years by her husband, *56 years older than her. The body when examined was so expired, it took a very long time to find a possible cause of death. It was determined her body had been there on the dirt floor, sitting cross legged for 3 months in its current condition. The girl was literally a mummy, and when she was took out of the sandstone dwelling and moved...OMF! You really can't imagine. I dream about her still.
Our medical staff/examiner at the time, was able to determine she was raped repeatedly until death for years, probably since her husband was able to start having intercourse with her around 4-5 years old, and had been starved, physically abused and neglected her entire life. The time of death was determined by the skins colouration, bands of black necrotic to the lightest skin colour tissues, *where the decomposition patterns started on her flesh from the ground up. (She was given to the husband for a wife from the cradle, and her family got a great sum of money for her).
The body/pseudo skeleton, weighed only 39 lbs. Her hair was a snarl in one huge lump filled with head lice, and the 19'' headscarf trapped inside of the clot her hair was, wasn't even detectable until the hair was took off the corpse. Her ankles were BOUND with another scarf the same colour. She had so many fractures, our medics asked him "So what happened"? The husband said ,""with purpose"", he ""BROKE her calf bones, ankles, and toes"", then positioned her in a cross legged position, "so as the body healed, she'd never get up and walk again". He said "it was the best choice for a happy union, because she was DISOBEDIENT", and she was ''causing'' him ''health problems always running away".
The country I was serving in, didn't allow for the arrest of the husband, as he *OWNED his wife, and could do ANYTHING he wanted to do to HIS PROPERTY. She was totally VULNERABLE to him, whatever care he gave or didn't. There were no criminal offences available to charge him with. Abusing your wife/wives was 100% legal, and socially acceptable. They DID have laws, where the WIFE could be stoned, or hung, IF the husband *THOUGHT she was cheating, stealing, swearing to God in his house, having evil *thoughts of sex with another man, or watching him have intercourse with another of his wives...THIS considered a *grave crime LITERALLY..UNLESS she was welcomed to watch. His wife IF ACCUSED of watching, had to be able to prove she had permission to do so, or it was a death by stoning. IF your husband was using another wife in YOUR BED, it is the husband's property to with as he liked. This man had another 3 wives.
We had to get *PERMISSION from the husband to have the girls body as a gift in order to retrieve it. The husband also collected the sum of $136.65 as a DOWER to trade his wife for the money. In this country you have to pay for the right to a dead body, even if you're a relative. The girl's family would have had to pay to attend the funeral of their daughter. The husband told me, (and 9 other CAF soldiers), that he was going to CELEBRATE the life of his dead spouse by having a party for *HIMSELF, with his other 3 wives. He told us he was PROUD of the service she'd given HIM. The husband prepared A *GOAT FEAST, to honour his 12 year old dead abused wife. The thing that makes this one of the most horrific cases that I’ve seen is that having locked in syndrome by itself would drive a person insane because you’re aware of everything that’s going on but you can’t move anything that is the ultimate torture. Now just imagine just being left on the couch in one spot with your legs underneath of you your legs cramping up you can’t do anything about it you’re itching you’re bleeding you’re hurting you can’t do anything about it and you’re like that for years. And to make matters worse being infested with bugs. That is the ultimate hell. I saw one other case where the girl was tortured beyond anything that anyone can imagine. I think this is probably the second worst case I’ve ever seen as far somebody being tortured. She may not have been beaten and had anything else done like that but the pure fact of melting into the couch being fully aware and not being able to do anything about it, it’s just the most horrible torture that I can think of. Locked in syndrome doesn’t just happen - it is usually due to a lesion around the vasculature around the brain stem - Alexander Dumas described it as “the corpse with living eyes”.
I personally have seen such a patient - however, he was also unable to breathe on his own.
I very much doubt that Lacey had this condition in its true form, and would conjecture that she had retreated into her own world as a way of tolerating the emotional abuse from her parents.

Just wondering about this: I’ve heard several sources note that it was unclear whether or not she had locked in syndrome. People who have locked in syndrome cannot normally chew/swallow on their own and normally have a feeding tube installed to obtain their nutrients. That being said, I read that pieces of the couch were found in her stomach as she was so incredibly hungry, that she was eating the couch. This would contradict the locked in syndrome theory. Also, it would be highly unlikely for a person with locked in syndrome to survive in a situation where there was no feeding tube. She was in that state for over a decade meaning she had to have gained nutrients in some capacity from somewhere.
Has anyone else heard anything similar? Any thoughts or additional information?

A few people have cited an article by the New York Post that the coroner debunked the locked in syndrome, but I can't find any other sources that corroborate it, and there are several sources that confirm locked in syndrome.

This video is a year old but I wanted to give my best wishes. My childhood cat has diabetes, and before we knew, he had multiple seizures. It was so scary, and I held him otw to the emergency vet. 2 years later and he is still a healthy, happy old man. Best wishes for you guys and your kitties

I've spoken to you before about my abuse as a child. Keep on doing what you do. I love you both ! So sorry about your cat. I know how it is to love a previous pet. I lost my 18 yr old toy poodle, MoJo this past January. I am disabled in a weelchair at 73 yrs of age. I nearly lost my will to live when MoJo died (still may) I had him 18 years and I'm so alone now. Good luck with your precious baby !

my mom actually worked at a company where the parents were clients at. she had no idea about the story until i told her. she just said the names sounded familiar, and then i showed her what the parent looked like. that’s when it clicked. definitely a huge moment of shock, and sadness in our lives. r.i.p sweet girl

There is a tortoise shell cat that lives on my mom's Street, and since my mom lives about a block away from me, I often walk to her place instead of driving. Anytime I walk down her street and that torti cat is outside, it literally chases me down the street hissing and spitting at me, and I have no idea why 😂
Everyone else on the street says that she is a perfectly friendly cat, apparently I am the only person she has ever done this to. And of course I have not ever hurt that cat or anything... It just hates me for reasons known only to it 😂

This is horrifying. I am a healthcare worker and three of my clients have locked in syndrome. It distresses me to think about how Lacey must have suffered before she died. Her parents are entirely to blame and should be charged for allowing her to die by neglecting her.

This hits me where I live. I'm Autistic myself and from what it sounds like, we could have been friends. It makes me sick to my stomach that this happened to her. Her parents are monsters who deserve life in prison for letting that happen to a person they were supposed to love. I can only hope that she is at peace now. After what she went through, the dear girl deserves that.

I’m 100% disabled, and I took care of disabled people before my disability. This video is a nightmare. They deserve the same fate, sorry, I have no mercy in this case.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what is '100% disabled'? Do disabilities come in percentages? I'm just curious.

@@alib1919 , it’s ok) In Israel you receive disability status with one or two numbers in percents - physical or/and mental. With this comes your monthly payments etc. I have 100% of mental disability according to the government scale, which also means that I receive a pension and other reasonable help from them no matter if I choose to work sometimes if I feel I’m able to, or not, because I can’t work as much as healthy people do or keep a job for a long time. I’m 35, got disability 4 years ago after a horrible traumatic experience. I’m ok with questions, I volunteer in our local disability center where I previously worked and assist people who need help in the same situation.
      Have a nice day!!

Hi Prada!! I think her parents should spend the rest of their lives in prison. It's difficult to think of an appropriate sentence to compensate for all the pain and suffering their daughter went through. This could have been prevented had her parents cared even a small amount.

As someone who is a learning disabled adult these cases never surprised me because the neglect is often under reported. I had to raise my voice to my husband's cousins who tried to take advantage of his grandmother who is 96 and started having dementia, her sons took over care and they are very aware of the vultures in the rest of the family. I worry about the old woman who is not my relative but is my good friend. I feel scared also as I started having more severe concentration issues too
