Har lehza ba shaklay but-e-ayyar baraamad
Dil burd-o-nihaan shud
Har dum ba libaas-e-digar aan yaar baraamad
Gah peer-o-jawaan shud
0' that trickster idol-beloved! Every time he made an appearance, he had a different face-
He pulled the people's hearts,
And hid from view.
Every time he came out
in a different garb-
He was sometimes young,
And sometimes he was old.
Khud kuza 0 kuza garo khud
gil-e-kuzaa
Khud rind-e-subu kash
Khud bar sar-e-aan kuza khareedaar baraamad
Ba shikast o rawaan shud
He was himself clay and flask,
And potter, and also the wine tippler.
And then he himself came out
As buyer for the flask,
And he broke it, and moved on.
Nai nai ke hameen bood ke mi aamad o mi ruft
Har qarn ke deedum
Nay! It was he that came and went
In all the ages, as I saw,
Taa aaqbat aan shakl-e-arab vaar baraamad
Dara-e-jahaan shud
Till finally, he showed himself
In the Arabian's form and took the
world for his kingdom.
Nai nai ke hamoon bood ke mi guft anul haq
Dar soorat-e-Mansoor
Mansoor na boodaan ke baraandaar baraamad
Naadaan ba gumaan shud
Nay! It was he who proclaimed
"I am the Truth" In Mansur's words;
It wasn't Mansur who was in public view,
On the scaffold, Fools fell into error.
Rumi shukhanay guft na guftast 0 na goyed
Kas dar hama aalam
Kafir shavad aan kas kay ba inkaar baraamad
Mardood-e-jahaan shud
Rumi has spoken in denial,
And none in the wide world speaks or Spoke thus.
Those who come out in denial Are cast out,
And become rejects, world-wide.

Almost all of the ancient Urdu poets wrote in Persian too and the Qawalli/Sufi traditions have kept Persian alive in Pakistan.

یار بنا میرا جیون کوڑ اے۔۔۔۔۔۔ خواجہ غلام فرید، کوٹ مٹھن
ھر لحظه به شكلي بت عيار بر آمد -- دل برد و نهان شد
هر دم به لباس دگر آن يار بر آمد -- گه پير و جوان شد
ہر لحظہ وہ بتِ عیار ایک نئی ہی شکل میں ظاہر ہوتا ہے --- دل چھینتا ہے اور غائب ہو جاتا ہے۔
ہر دم وہ یار دوسروں کے لباس میں ظاہر ہوتا ہے -
- کبھی بوڑھے کے روپ میں اور کبھی جوان کے۔
خود کوزہ و خود کوزہ گر و خود گلِ کوزہ --- خود رندِ سبو کش
خود بر سرِ آں کوزہ خریدار برآمد --- بشکست رواں شد
وہ خود ہی کوزہ ہے، خود ہی کوزہ بنانے والا اور خود ہی کوزہ کی مٹی -- اور خود ہی کوزے سے پینے والا۔
اور خود ہی اس کوزے کے خریدار کے طور پر ظاہر ہوتا ہے --- اور اس کیلیے اس کوزے کو توڑنا بھی جائز ہے۔
ني ني كه همو بود كه مي آمد و مي رفت --- هر قرن كه ديدي
تا عاقبت آن شكل عرب وار برآمد -- داراي جهان شد
وہی تھا جو ہرزمانے میں آتا رہا اور چاتا رہا - ہر زمانے نے دیکھا
لیکن بلآخر وہ ایک عرب (ص) کی شکل میں ظاہر ہوا -- اور وہی (ص) جہان کے بادشاہ ہیں۔
ني ني كه همو بود كه مي گفت انا الحق --- در صوت الهي
منصور نبود آن كه بر آن دار برآمد --- نادان به گمان شد
وہی تھا کہ جس نے کہا کہ میں ہی حق ہوں -- خدا کی آواز میں
وہ منصور نہیں تھا جو سولی پر ظاہر ہوا -- نادان اور نہ جاننے والوں کو یہی لگتا ہے کہ وہ منصور تھا۔
رومي سخن كفر نگفته است و نگويد --- منكر نشويدش
كافر بود آن كس كه به انكار برآمد --- از دوزخيان شد
رومی نے کبھی کفر کی بات نہیں کی اور نہ وہ کرتا ہے -- وہ منکر نہیں ہے
کافر تو وہ ہے جس نے انکار کیا تھا یعنی شیطان --- اور وہی دوزخیوں میں سے ہے

Thank you but there were quite a few mistakes in the above, I have taken the liberty to present a more accurate version below:
• Har lahza ba shak-laa(n) butey ayyar baramad, dil burd nihan shud
In an instant the sly shapeshifter appeared, stealing heart and then disappears
• Har dam ba libas-e, digar aan yaar baramad, geh peero jawan shud
Always in various disguises our friend appears, as a youngster or as an elder
• Khud kooza-o khud kooza-gar-o khud giley kooza, khud rind-e subu kash
He is the pot, the potter and the clay of the pot, he himself is the drinker of the pot
• Khud barsar-e aan kooza khareedaar baramad, be-shikast ravan shud
He himself appears as the buyer of the pot, smashes it and leaves disappearing
• Ney ney ke hamu bood ke mi aamad-o mi raft, har qarn ke deedey
No no, it was him who kept appearing and disappearing, as witnessed by every age
• Ta aaqi-bat-aan shakal-e-arab waar baramad, daraey jahan shud
Until at last he appeared in the form of an Arab, holding the universe in his palm
• Ney ney ke hamu bood ke mi guft-ul-anal-haq, dar soorat-e-mansoor
No no, it was him who said "I am the Truth", disguised as Mansoor (aided by God)
• Mansoor naboo-daan ke bar-aan daar baramad, nadan ba guman shud
But it wasn't Mansoor who was crucified, though that's what the ignorant believe
• Rumi sukhan-e-kufr na-guft-ast-o nago yad, munkir nasho-e-dash
Rumi neither listens to kufr nor speaks it, a munkir he is not
• Kaafir shaw-da-aan kas ke ba inkar-e-baramad, mardood-e-jahan shud
It's the kaafir who presents denial when asked, for indeed condemned he is
This is a true masterpiece - both the poetry of Rumi and its rendition by Ustaad Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad and their group. I think I probably need a lifetime to fully decipher these lyrics. So many layers here -- yet so simple to appreciate at the same time. The Oneness hidden behind multiple guises and "pardas" -- a new guise with every breath, with every (heart) beat -- yet still the same behind all of these. The Creator, the created, the material that creates and the destruction (of the cup) -- what beautiful metaphors ... waah!

Following is partly translation and partly interpretation of this great Sufi poem:
Every time the beloved idol appeared, He swept everyone's heart and disappeared.
Each time He appeared as a different nationality.
Sometimes as an elder, sometimes as a youngster.
He is the vessel, the vessel's creator, and the vessel's clay. He is the drunk who drinks from this vessel.
(He admires this vessel so much that) He sold it to Himself, broke every belief He had and walked away (from it all).
No, no it was Him who always came and left throughout the centuries.
Finally, He appeared in an Arabic (nationality) attire, became known as King of the world (Dara in original Farsi/Dari means king).
No, no it was Him who said that He is the Truth --- when He appeared as Jesus of Nazareth (Mansour).
The one on the cross wasn't Jesus of Nazareth --- but ignorant thought so.
Rumi has never denied Him and will never do so, don't call him a non-believer.
Non-believer is the one who denies Him, he (the non-believer) is rejected by the world.
Mansoor is Al-Hallaj not Jesus

@@TyroneKauai but in this context he is talking about the sufi saint Al-Hallaj(Mansoor) who claimed divinity and was executed for it.
@@hassanshahid24 So if everyone including yourself believe that Mansour was actually executed then the second part of this line where it says that ignorant thought he was executed does not apply here at all. On the other hand, Quran says that Jesus was not the one who was executed but ignorant thought so directly applies to this line. Please explain how I am misinterpreting this. Thank you.
@@TyroneKauai The thing is if Rumi was going to mention jesus it would've been before Prophet Muhammad. Sufis believe that if they attain a certain level of mysticism god speaks through them. Hence the line mentioning him claiming divinity. Mansoor was killed for that reason. You can read about Mansoor Al-Hallaj in detail. I, too at first, misinterpreted it as Jesus but after a bit of research I realised that they're actually talking about Al-Hallaj.
