@pespsisipper I've hosted my own private server a few times, searching Minecraft logs is absolute pain as the game compresses each log daily, so to search logs you must decompress each day's log file, open them all up individually, and Ctrl+F each one for the offending word until you eventually get there. Some plugins might make this easier but that's my experience with vanilla and Fabric servers.

When i started my server (just a vanilla+ survival fabric server, no paper or plugins) I got pretty fuckin lucky. I happened to post on reddit that i was making a server, at the same time that a small streamer was looking for a server. He brought his entire viewer base (like 100 people on average) to view the server when we launched it, and with all the other people the reddit managed to pick up, we had like 80 people that first day. The hardest part as server owner, was figuring out how to prevent lag, without limiting what people could do. 5 years later, we're still a 10ish player survival server, with tons of massive projects being worked on, and it's been the most fun experience of my life, seeing a bunch of random people come together to make something special. we've got a few small streamer's, like 10-20 viewer's, who stream, then host other people, and in the 20-30 viewer streamer group, our server has gotten kinda famous, cuz of all the stupid projects we do lol. It's truly been a life changing experience.
Bro the pain with running a Minecraft server is actually so real. I run a server for my friends and just the general community here. It consists of a pvp enabled lobby plus a creative and survival world. With crossplay between bedrock, java, and eagler. (Check out this guys last vid if you don't know what that is) The amount of time, effort, and money you have to put into a server even that small is insane. So yea I for one completely support that pay to win style you have. You keep it contained to just one mode and don't include the stupid gambling aspect some p2w servers have.
As someone who has run a small server for my friends, i agree, HEAVILY in the fact that it costs so much to keep running. Where i am 1 kilowatt-hour is between 12-68 cents, and i had the server running basically 24/7 for a total time of about 5-8~ months straight. I did the math recently and the electricity bill for running it that long was somewhere between $262.98 ~ $420.768 (12c per hour) And $1,490.22 ~ $2,384.352 (68c per hour). Average: $1,139.58 So i understand how annoying it is when people just complain about it... Doesn't help that they wanted to run a VERY unstable modpack that crashed the server every few hours (and i couldn't find an auto-crash-relauncher-mod that would've restarted the server when that happened, so i was usually pinged by them at like 3am or when i was away from the computer to ask me to restart the server.) - After 2 months of that i got quite fed up with feeling like a tool that they were using me as. I was alright with it before because i was playing it with them and hanging out a lot, but i got busy, and couldn't really play with all of them at the same time due to ram constraints (If there were a few people on the server my computer would run out of ram - probably from a lot of the world being loaded at that point - and i couldn't play at the same time, so overall i felt really lonely) Sorry for this wall of textual complaint, but I needed to get the frustration out there. I feel you. Also had to reset the world a couple times, which made a few of them mad at me. It sucks dude.
1:04:35 It is actually crazy how many people will take something at face value without even trying to understand it. IMO the way did P2W in only PVE was the best way you could've handled it.
Ayo your the guy who said I must suck huhns you know I will come back and talk to you man to man face to face or was it the other guy with your profile pick

Just finished watching the video, and I have to say I couldn't relate more! People truly don't know how expensive and time consuming running a Minecraft server is. Amazing video and documentary of your server's history! Keep up the great work! ~ps cant wait for the new factions gamemode ;)
Ive hosted 3 tournaments, multiple minigames, and 3 SMPs (all modded hell holes) for me and my buddys twitch community in the past 2 years and my god I never realized how expensive it is maintaining a server just for 2 months let alone a full year until now, your doing a great job hope your server gets more love and a bigger audience to it in the future
I have a little server management experience and i have seen how far people will go to attack a Minecraft server from ddos attacks to hacking server panels its all just insane
I really love this video about the perspective of running a business by server hosting. I am still learning a lot about creating a business about videogames in general but this video give me hope that the experience may be daunting at first but you can find joy on the worst part of the job by using exploits as promotional material. I am really glad you made this video because you teach about the importance of how to adapt, never give up and always find way to solve problems no matter how dumb they are. Thank you!
TheMisterEpic, I really enjoy all of your videos. Even with the shorter videos you can tell you put alot of effort into them, and this video was great for the length of it. I don't know if you get enough credit on the quality of your videos
Oh god this video must've taken so long! I really enjoyed watching this video though, something about it being very long yet very entertaining. You've out done yourself misterepic!
I’ve been trying to create my own server and have had a lot of ups and downs. This video is great from an MC server owner and also an active RUclipsr’s perspective. I am super glad I saw this and shared with some of my staff. Love the vids!!
watched a 1:12:04 hours lenght, in a video that talk about minecraft (i dont play it anymore) and i enjoyed it. great server, i might think to start playing again and join ur server ^^
I can understand you as an small Minecraft server owner I know how hard is it for a server to run while being non-p2w my server didn’t last too long only like 2-3 months and costed me a lot
Great video! I really enjoyed hearing your side and I liked the fact you cleared up all the loose ends from the original video on P2W minecraft servers. Opinions change rapidly, and trying to get others to understand them is important if you want people to see eye-to-eye. I am looking forward to playing factions on your server.
I see that but like he just made a video on him destroying someone else’s server because of pay to win while he had a p2w server himself. I don’t support gambling but crashing peoples servers is insane. He says that his actions are fine because the EULA kinda bans pay to win yet here he is running one. Running a pay to win server is 1 thing, but then crashing others? Kinda hypocritical right?
@@ahsanahmedbhaila Hmm I didn't watch really the P2W part of the video tho, so I'm not sure if he did actuallt add pay2win or just paying for cosmetics and some upgrades that are not too much. But he is I guess kinda hypocritcal there.
BRAVO! I watched all the way through, and I felt like it was a worth while watch as I now understand how it is to host something (very difficult) Thanks for making this video
I have never even considered joining the server until now after hearing this story. It’s crazy to hear you talk about old gamemodes I remember vividly. To be honest, I’ve seen so many ads that’s my mind completely turns off or I skip it. Very interesting to see this side of Minecraft and wish you the best .
Watched the whole thing. I found it a surprise to me that I recognized everything you talked about in the video as a long time viewer of the channel. Good video, but maybe don't end videos with promises you might as well break in the future (or don't, it's great comment and engagement bait)
It's insane how you and the other guy had managed to keep a near-free to play server with old minecraft gamemodes/minigames that died out alive up to today and make it thrive
This is perhaps your greatest video by far. It's honestly a great summary of every challenge faced in growing the server (indirect advertising was the ultimate strat), as well as previous exploit videos. Importantly, you didn't hold back on also discussing the controversies and your validations for them, you made many tough calls but ultimately they have led to successful growth. You were able to reflect on previous views of P2W and admit to change, convincing me and others as well. I can tell you've matured as both server owner and content creator in the past few years, a very unique and fortunate position to be in, you've earned it, and can't wait to see where the server goes from here!
I usually find it hard to sit down and swallow a one hour video, but this video was so well put together that it wasn't even hard. My attention was constantly captured, one of your best videos you've done yet MrEpic.
Damn. W editing man. God I remember watching you and you're editing has improved. You are one of the best 👍💯minecraft youtubers. You are literally the BEST ever.
I don't realy feel this is an ad for the server, this is a little documentary film about your server, and so many tips, how a server run in the background. I realy enjoed :3
Interesting! I personally want to try run a server myself so the technical details were quite interesting. Also you managd to trick me into watching an hour long advertisement successfully
I remember that video about coming to pay to win server and it was quite difficult to digest regarding your history. But it was reasonable and who was willing to understand, he did. You made me reconsider some opinions, that is not easy in my age, and I think now that was very important video. And the level of dismissal in my eyes somehow confirms it.
I was planning after the video ended to say "in the end, is this not just another advertisement for the server, even if it is more sophisticated?" But you took the words out of my mouth. Still, amazing video keep up the good work!
I NEVER usually watch 1 hour videos but I really enjoyed watching this. You definitely kept me interested. Brings back so many memories of playing gamemodes such as The Bridges and SG on Mineplex. Ive also seen the server grow as you've continued to post about it since you started it. My life is quite busy nowadays however and I have also moved onto other things. I don't play much Minecraft these days (I have an event every month or so I'm involved with old uni friends) but Monster Hunter and other games has captured my attention now (still want to do all Advancements some time though.) Also you said you wouldn't be making a longer video than 30 minutes on the 30 minute one. So I'm now prepared for 2 hr expose on your whole YT journey from start to now.
Hey trooper. I've never played your server and didn't know you had one. I'm gonna update my game and give it a try, the domination game mode bit hit home for me and gave me a good perspective on what kind of stuff you're into. Well done
While yeah, I did watch a 1 hour long ad for your server, I'm happy with it. I may not join the server, because I don't play minecraft, I do love watching your videos. You're one of my favorite minecraft youtubers (which I don't have many), and I believe it's a perfect strategy to make videos about your server.
this is not my main acc but I have ran a server in past with a total player base of 4K Players with around 30 Daily players ITS REALLY HARD to Maintain the server espically financially I had to close the server because my yt wasn't monitized the donators stopped donating slowly and then Last 2 seasons went in loss and I had to close it and leave yt Now I am planning to do a come back... I have learnt alot and maybe this time I can make something successfull.
Not gonna lie, just watched this whole thing, and I'm currently preparing to join the server because of the incredibly dedicated advertisement that I just watched. Honestly, I never thought I'd actually watch an advertisement this long, especially considering I want to throw my remote at my TV whenever I get a 5 second ad, nevermind one over an hour.
30 Different alt's to evade banning, doesn't that mean he has purchased the game 30 times (because don't you need to buy another account (an alt) to do this? - If so then that is quite funny that he has spent $800-900 on the game....
I was alwasy curous about such work behind the scenes. So thanks the POV. Plus your voice is nice. I don't be joining however, cause i just don't do multiplayer.
I forgot this video was even an hour long and I don’t know if that’s a bad thing especially for you lmao. you need to realize something there is a hard line between P2W and p2w if you know what I mean you did the right thing and have the minimum amount of p2w in your server but there are some other servers I’m looking at you purple prison, lover fella and many more those are just the ones that come to mind. I feel like you should do something for the ppl that report and find a bunch of bugs like in hypixel like give them something like the game breaker or something give them a reward idk just an idea I love your videos. I’m glad you tried your hardest to keep is p2w free and you still managed to survive for like 3 YEARS!?!??!?!?!!!???!?! You should be proud of yourself. there was an old saying I heard I mostly forget it but here is the jist of it yes jist of it, it went a little something like this you can never make everyone happy and you can only please so many people.
I really understand your perspective and experience with managing a server. I myself also run a server, although limited on time due to school. The server is now 3 years and a month old. Through that time, I've had to figure out a lot of the similar things that you had to as well. Now in the current day, my server "WawaNet" is currently in down time due to the season three massive revamp and update. Having SMP modes with custom coded RPG gameplay (which is optional) with custom coded game modes and pvp modes. I was able to do this because I know a bit on coding and altering plugins to my liking. However, with being in 12 grade now and a heavier load of work coming in, I have basically lost time to do anything for the server. Thus it being still down and a lot of slow progress. One of the things you said in the video was about how you had the privilege of just advertising your server on your youtube channal free of charge. I myself didn't have that, and the server when it was even on, struggled to even get a singular player to play which was the main reason that motivated me to change the server completely. Sorry, went on a ramble here, anyways, I agree with most of your points and especially with the financial problem, I hope you well! (Also sorry if my english isn't great, its my third language and I'm still learning, Thank you for your understanding!)
Oh no, the griffing video did not get forgotten. I think it’s one of your best videos. It made me think of griffing in a different light and honestly I kinda like the idea of it now. Anyways, your video has been lingering in my mind from its release to this day it’s very good. 29:40
I have always been a strong anti p2w person, kinda one of the reason why i started watching you. However with the information that you provided over the financing of the server and how hard it had been to make enough money, i belive that you did everythig right. And because of all the drama and struggles you have gone through, i can day that you are a champ. And that people will look up to you as someone who never gives up and wants to grow a great community.
I just cannot STAND IT when PEOPLE like YOU have to get MONEY for spending time on something... At this point shouldn't we all just be working for free? Jokes aside, the people that hate on this sort of stuff are ridiculous. Grow up. Mister Epic, you truly did do a great job on this server and I applaud you for that :D (disclaimer for the silly: the first part of this comment was a joke)
I love long videos about the stories that happen on multiple minecraft servers, they are always so unique! btw have you thought about making a smp that restarts every month or week, that idea works well in games like Rust. I know next to nothing about hosting servers but i think it would be a fun idea and it would make players hype for every wipe aswell as making it more easy to starters since they don't have to travel far just to get iron, deff playing that if that's added :)

I was alright with it before because i was playing it with them and hanging out a lot, but i got busy, and couldn't really play with all of them at the same time due to ram constraints (If there were a few people on the server my computer would run out of ram - probably from a lot of the world being loaded at that point - and i couldn't play at the same time, so overall i felt really lonely)
Sorry for this wall of textual complaint, but I needed to get the frustration out there. I feel you.
Also had to reset the world a couple times, which made a few of them mad at me. It sucks dude.
People forget that servers aren’t made by robots and are hosted by people with lives lol
1:04:35 It is actually crazy how many people will take something at face value without even trying to understand it. IMO the way did P2W in only PVE was the best way you could've handled it.
I didn't know this was over an hour when I started watching it, so I watched the whole thing
I will only join your server if you make a game mode specifically catered to my obscure tastes and I will not tell you what those are.
Oh soo you want epic do some weird sus stuff?

I will come back and talk to you man to man face to face or was it the other guy with your profile pick
This was a fun podcast. Thank you for the video. I never hosted a server but it can be quite stressful to have one. I found it quite funny you love exploit and arent scared of it ruining your server. 😂
Nintendo Switch players can't actually join because adding Servers is blocked as a feature, you can only play i think it was on 6 chosen servers.
Probably cause of Nintendo's strict guidelines
I KNEW IT, it was a really big advertisement for your server

Really cool video, It's really cool to see the beginnings of your server and I liked the documentary style you have gone for
Love the video. Not many people know the struggles and cost of running a minecraft server! Keep it up!
Appreciate it :)
I have a little server management experience and i have seen how far people will go to attack a Minecraft server from ddos attacks to hacking server panels its all just insane
Minecrafter sounds like an absolute menace. I admire the dedication, but I was not expecting 25 alt accounts. I was expecting 5...
Thank you :)
This vid is an HOUR damn I am gonna have to put this on my watch later can't wait to watch!
This must've been soo stressful for y'all I really appreciate you making a video on this it was super entertaining to see!
watched a 1:12:04 hours lenght, in a video that talk about minecraft (i dont play it anymore) and i enjoyed it. great server, i might think to start playing again and join ur server ^^
Well there's nothing evil about making money from your hardwork. I mean as long as it's not over priced. Good 1hr ad man.
I have had very similar experiences owning a server and it's nice to know that my experiences aren't that wierd/different from most
“Will my dupe stash be refunded?”
LMAO
Watched the whole thing. I found it a surprise to me that I recognized everything you talked about in the video as a long time viewer of the channel.
Good video, but maybe don't end videos with promises you might as well break in the future (or don't, it's great comment and engagement bait)
I run a non p2w server and everything you said is 100% true. Really appreciate the insights you shared in this video, worth the hour of my time.
To the point towards the end there, remember that whatever profession you're in, you're usually judged by those who know less than you.
Hey there, TheMisterEpic! Just wanted to let you know that I like watching your videos and I am subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work!
I also clicked the bell button 🛎️🔔
It's insane how you and the other guy had managed to keep a near-free to play server with old minecraft gamemodes/minigames that died out alive up to today and make it thrive
Did I really just watch a 1 hour and 12 minutes advertisement ;-; I might try the server cuz this advertisement def worked
The only time I watched a 1 hour advertisement of a mc server. WORTH IT
This is perhaps your greatest video by far.
Thank you :)
37:07 RIP Michigun, the Triple Spike legend.
got so invested in the video i didn't realize it was an hour long
I usually find it hard to sit down and swallow a one hour video, but this video was so well put together that it wasn't even hard.
I have played the SMP since it's release date and I'm glad to say that I'm fully satisfied and this is a great video ❤
Interesting! I personally want to try run a server myself so the technical details were quite interesting. Also you managd to trick me into watching an hour long advertisement successfully
1 hr vid here we go
I remember that video about coming to pay to win server and it was quite difficult to digest regarding your history. But it was reasonable and who was willing to understand, he did. You made me reconsider some opinions, that is not easy in my age, and I think now that was very important video. And the level of dismissal in my eyes somehow confirms it.
after watching this 1 hour advertisement I want to play the server but I can't really commit the time to actually do it.
I was planning after the video ended to say "in the end, is this not just another advertisement for the server, even if it is more sophisticated?" But you took the words out of my mouth. Still, amazing video keep up the good work!
15:42 That video intro made me laugh lmao 🤣
I NEVER usually watch 1 hour videos but I really enjoyed watching this. You definitely kept me interested. Brings back so many memories of playing gamemodes such as The Bridges and SG on Mineplex. Ive also seen the server grow as you've continued to post about it since you started it. My life is quite busy nowadays however and I have also moved onto other things.
I don't play much Minecraft these days (I have an event every month or so I'm involved with old uni friends) but Monster Hunter and other games has captured my attention now (still want to do all Advancements some time though.)
Also you said you wouldn't be making a longer video than 30 minutes on the 30 minute one. So I'm now prepared for 2 hr expose on your whole YT journey from start to now.
The entire history of og network i guess
Hey trooper. I've never played your server and didn't know you had one. I'm gonna update my game and give it a try, the domination game mode bit hit home for me and gave me a good perspective on what kind of stuff you're into. Well done
i enjoyed this a lot and i even logged on to your server
RUclips’s biggest advertisement!! Also keep up the great content ❤
Factions will be great. Mark my words 😄
He doubled the time of 30 minutes and gave it to the viewers 😂
Man I don't even play minecraft anymore. Haven't since around 2014-15. But I love seeing well made videos documenting long running servers.
I was dying laughing hearing about _minecrafters misadventures. Actually so funny, he just does a little trolling
You're such a great youtuber. Literally super in touch with your community, great work bro keep it up.
this is not my main acc but I have ran a server in past with a total player base of 4K Players with around 30 Daily players
ITS REALLY HARD to Maintain the server espically financially I had to close the server because my yt wasn't monitized the donators stopped donating slowly and then Last 2 seasons went in loss and I had to close it and leave yt
Now I am planning to do a come back...
Hes going to make a video about how many people joined off of this video alone and then another one for that one😂😂😂
"I destroyed TheMisterEpic's pay-to-win minecraft server" 😆
30 Different alt's to evade banning, doesn't that mean he has purchased the game 30 times (because don't you need to buy another account (an alt) to do this?
- If so then that is quite funny that he has spent $800-900 on the game....
Yeah probably.
Or be bought them for 5 cents each of Minecraft’s black market for stolen accounts
I was alwasy curous about such work behind the scenes. So thanks the POV. Plus your voice is nice.
I don't be joining however, cause i just don't do multiplayer.
On my way to make it 232,001
I forgot this video was even an hour long and I don’t know if that’s a bad thing especially for you lmao.
you need to realize something there is a hard line between P2W and p2w if you know what I mean you did the right thing and have the minimum amount of p2w in your server but there are some other servers I’m looking at you purple prison, lover fella and many more those are just the ones that come to mind.
MAKE SURE YOU SUBSCRIBE!!! LOADS OF PRESSURE THIS TIME!
Why don’t you hire minecrafter? That would be a 200 IQ play. He finds exploits and you patch them.
Honestly loved this advertisement, best add I've had this year
I just cannot STAND IT when PEOPLE like YOU have to get MONEY for spending time on something... At this point shouldn't we all just be working for free?
Jokes aside, the people that hate on this sort of stuff are ridiculous. Grow up. Mister Epic, you truly did do a great job on this server and I applaud you for that :D
(disclaimer for the silly: the first part of this comment was a joke)
Hahaha, thanks :)
