My favorite cantonese food is egg tart, unless if that's not cantonese, then it's has to be cha siu, if that's not cantonese, then it has to be dry fry cow fun 乾炒牛河

J should mostly map to either Y or R in Mandarin, while W either stays as W or becomes Hu.

As a linguist we still usually categorize them as distinct languages 😊 The two aren’t mutually intelligible, even if they share roots. But “language” isn’t always a purely linguistic category. Often a governing body will choose what to designate a language, and what to designate a dialect.

I studied Mandarin for 6 years and am pretty good conversational Mandarin. I’ve always wanted to lean Cantonese. Does this method also work going from Mandarin to Canto? If not, what’s your advice? How easy is it to learn Cantonese if I master Mandarin pronounciation and am good with vocabulary and grammar?

It actually works in reverse :) It's not designed that way but our tutors are definitely trained to help you! We do have a couple students in the program who are using it in reverse!

And Mandarin fronted the k to q like it does for every k before an i.

im a madarin speaker but my aunts and parent speak cantonese, I always turn the mandarin into another tone to make it sound cantonese 😂
