I was at this show. It was my first time being introduced to After Forever and Floor. Got to chat with Floor for a little while and got my picture taken with her. So glad her career and popularity have skyrocketed. She deserves it!
@@ChrisPage68 ProgPower USA would actually be happening this weekend, but was sadly cancelled due to Covid craziness. There aren't many years of the festival left until Glenn ( the promoter) retires, so if you can get to Atlanta next year I highly recommend the experience. Lots of amazing people, but not overcrowded. The bands really make an effort to mingle with fans. I've met so many of my favorite bands, many of whom are performing in the US for the first time.
I wasn't at THAT show but I did get to seen them open up for Overkill in NYC. Became an instant fan. Hung out with her for a bit as well as she was checking out Overkill's set. Me talking to her is like Emppu talking to her, The height difference is noticeable to say the least.
NOW, I think you get the idea WHY I was SO excited after hearing news that Floor joins Nightwish ) As I knew her listening to After Forever... And i couldnt think of any better choice for Nightwish ) I had a feeling that the Universe have somehow rearranged itself in a best possible way )
I was just about to say sorry to them, because I watched the performance more than I did their reaction. I was bawling like a baby, and looking disgusting with all the snot coming out.
The band was founded by Mark Jansen as the rhythm guitarist (Epica) and Sander Gommans as the lead guitarist (he is providing harsh vocals in this song) in 1995. It used to be a death metal cover band before Floor joined the band in 1997. Mark Jansen left in 2002 and founded Epica. He was replaced as the rhythm guitarist by Bas Maas (who provided that short part with clean male vocals) The keyboardist Joost van der Broek is now working with Epica as the producer of their albums. He has been working with Arjen Lucassen for many years. That is where Floor met him and was able to convince him to join After Forever in 2003. He is now working with her again on some solo stuff. After Forever split up in 2009, but this concert from 2007 was one of their last live performances. Sander Gommans started to suffer from burn-out and then it went downhill. He married the blonde singer Amanda Somerville (she also provided backing vocals for the album this song comes from) from Exit Eden a few years after it just as an aside. :-) There is another song called "Discord" from this concert.
Also Amanda Somerville was the teacher of Simone simmons (Epica) has worked with them as a background singer on their studio albums, has done a live tour with Epicabecause simone was really sic,k and still works with them for making sure their lyrics are properly written and properly sang in the studio.
Bas has been with Doro since AF broke up, pretty much. AND...Floor is currently writing new stuff with Joost, who is one of those guys who flies under the radar for most folks, but has been responsible for some great & epic music over the years.
She was already phenomenal back in those days. You could sense early on she was something rather extraordinary. And just like a fine wine, she’s only gotten better with each passing year. I’m the sort of listener/musician who loves it whenever I can find a band or performer I can follow and grow with over the long haul. I’m not into hookup culture. I make friends slowly and hang onto them for life. It’s the simple preference for quality over quantity. And Floor is a real find because she has given us quality in quantity. That’s rare.
i hope those folks can appreciate what they discovered there with the clear strong pipes a younger floor jansen and the absolutlely beautiful long hair awesome dutch windmills and she has a wonderful contrast to her male counterparts
Sass-o-Meter set to Stunning. 😰😍🤘 I think we can agree that it's no fluke that she's so well regarded in the Metal music industry. She's already remarkable here.
One of the more heavier stuff of After Forever after over ten years existence. Also one of their best songs with male grunting parts. Besides you see Floor Jansen experimenting with her range of higher vocal notes.
So happy to see you also looking at what Floor did before Nightwish. After Forever was absolutely brilliant and I consider myself lucky to have seen them perform more than a few times
Floor's earlier days - completely awesome and making her own music style. Phenomenal, pure energy, pure power sound or operatic or emotion or belting or whatever she wanted. And she is even better now There can be only one! (no affence Suzi❤️)
Ah, one of my favorite concert memories ever! I went to ProgPower Ii-IX and been back a couple of times since (XIV and XVI) when work has allowed. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Symphony X play all of the Odyssey, a very jetlagged Nightwish bring the house down in their US debut, and the biggest North American date on After Forever's last tour. Dreamflight and Monolith of Doubt (held F5 for over 10 seconds!) gave me my first 2 live Floorgasms (I started listening to AF back in 2002 and also heard her with Arjen Luccassen's Star One the same year) all the way back in 2007.
I must admit that this was AWESOME! The band were great and Floor was absolutely amazing! I can understand why she was soo sad when they decided to call it a day as I felt she looked really happy with them and totally in sinc with them. I love her in Nightwish, but after seeing this I think i can see why she was crushed when they decided to split! Ronnie
Omg I woke up and turned my phone on, this was the first thing to pop up. Not many people react to after forever so I’m glad you did. This song is much better than the first one you watched too! Now for ‘monolith of doubt’ (2002) and ‘who I am’ (with her sister 2007) 🤘😁
In February 2009, it was announced that After Forever had disbanded. Singer Floor Jansen and keyboardist Joost van den Broek both collaborated again in ReVamp and Star One, before Jansen eventually joined Nightwish as lead singer in 2013. Former rhythm guitarist Mark Jansen founded Epica in 2002 after his departure from After Forever, and in 2010, founded MaYaN, which included former After Forever members Sander Gommans and Jack Driessen. Floor Jansen has appeared as a session or live vocalist for both Epica and MaYaN.
(just realised I haven't commented yet) Thanks for your wonderful reaction again🤘. My favourite performance I've watched. Unfortunately only seen AF live once as support act for Nightwish (Tarja era), which was also my introduction to AF and Floor.
Floor Jansen has been fucking amazing since after forever days I am so glad that she finally is receiving the recognition she deserves, after years of being in the shadows and so underrated .
It's so understandable why Floor was devastated when After Forever broke up. Not only was it her musical home since she was 16, but they also kicked major ass.
This was floors first band she joined when she was 16 they were together for a few years when they disbanded she started ReVamp while she was in that band she was also singing for nightwish before they finally made her the permanent singer so ReVamp disbanded and she's been in Nightwish for years now
Harold Andeweg I think I remember it now. I think I’m starting to watch too many Nightwish/Floor reactions lol. I’m starting to forget what I’ve already seen. 😬
I love your reactions, thanks! One suggestion: it would be fun to know your relation to a particular band. I got the impression that this was your first reaction to AF, but it wasn't very clear. If so, you could have made more of that fact--it's not always clear whether you have already listened to a particular band or musician before. Keep rocking!
Check out the song "Discord" from the same concert. Not saying she isn't now, (she looks amazing and she's buff AF) but Floor was in incredible shape back then, So trim and toned.
small deed for u TheWHZ: if am not mistaken/member wrong :D after this band quit, some while later that guy who does growler/guitarist part, Marc Jansen (not relite to Floor)) started new small band and these days we know band named EPICA :D because of that.
this is where Floor belongs! I never cared for her after After Forever. I liked her voice much more then. And I also liked the music more than Nightwishs nowadays. They made some fantastic albums!

I think Suzie and Travis need to see the JANSEN SISTERS both on stage at once.
Saw a documentary with subtitles about and with her. She talked about this band and how after 12 years with them it was gone, it gutted her.
This is why she's the best match for Nightwish
I really do miss this band.

loved Floor in AF and revamp with classico/operatic power ...unlike today's mostly mainstream, textured pop voice
