So excited you checked out Afterforever!. Thank you. Please Floor and Irene Jansen.
My favorite AF song. Even at this young age Floor has already mastered so many of her vocal skills. I love it when the band backs away and lets her soar. Great reaction.
TY! This band and this song is incredible underrated. One of the best prog songs and Floor already showing her Queen level.
True that.
Agreed.
I found After Forever back in 1997, when Floor was just a tall skinny teenager - with an incredible stage energy and a powerful voice that could blow houses away. A couple of years later she started on rock school, and then classical and musical - and all could be heard in her performances. She had always been an incredible powerhouse - and back in the days, she was 'closer' to the audience, talking to us more than she does nowadays. She was one of the very very few, who has ever done a Queen song justice (who wants to live forever) - and all of their cover songs were true 'Floor versions' = pure power - like 'Final countdown' which she nails completely.
In 2002 After Forever toured with Nightwish - and it was there the Nightwish guys saw the potential. Marko also met Floor in some Ayreon and other collaborations - so late in September 2012 - Nightwish had only one option...
And the music industry changed forever... 😅😉
But back then - I preferred After Forever instead of Nightwish - because of their lead singer.
Same here. I saw AF in 2002 with NW (and another band, forgot the name). I absolutely liked AF better than NW. The guitarist (Bas Maas, who replaced Mark Jansen) even came on stage during the NW set, grabbed the mic and did a cover (think it was Ozzy stuff). They literally dwarfed the Finns.
@@BrendonChase_2015oh wow that must have been an awesome experience.
@@frank1963 I can only imagine how it was. In those early days, when female-fronted bands were a novelty, at small gigs in clubs and such, with the band and the crowd being so close and the security standards quite low... with a lot of tw@ts in the audience screaming "b00bs" because what else is a girl on stage supposed to do? Must have been a lot of fun.
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194
I would probably end up in a fight if that’s what they would be screaming ‼️I would totally not agree with that, even back then.
@@frank1963 Same.
Ty for the shoutout souls and thanks a bunch for this very fine piece of nostalgia. There's something about Floor's AF vocals that I can really miss from time to time, so this is always such a treat.
And yes, we went to the NW concert in Amsterdam last Sunday. My sister, my brother in law, yours truly and my wife (in spirit). We had tickets in 2020 already, the year she died, only 2 months short of that concert we were so looking forward to. Got postponed anyway, and then again in 2021. So this concert had a very special meaning indeed. It was nothing short of spectacular and I'm sure that my wife, "cut into little stars" as the saying goes, would've cherished every second of it. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Thank you so much Brendon for suggesting this. After Forever and Floor are 🤯🤯🤯
you are one of the top "reactor" (lot of detailed comments) to the YT-Reactors to Floor and NW, because you know a lot about them. IMO. Thanks for all your input. And very sorry about your wife.
Sorry to hear about your wife bro. Our condolences. Crissy didn't realize it when she mentioned it.
@@tomakazi4468 No biggie my man. She got diagnosed with a severe brain tumour in 2012 and experts gave her abt one yr to live. So we completely changed our lives, with me caring 24/7. Changed our diets, ditched our zombiephones, travelled "the world" (Scandinavia mostly) in our tiny VW Polo with a rooftop tent and celebrated every minute of life. We got an extra "7 Years To The Wolves" so to speak. Happiest years of my life. Cheers!
@@BrendonChase_2015 Hi, at first my condolances.
I know your wife was with you.
I was also there in Amsterdam. Had to wait due to COVID like you did.
Met some very nice people.
Seven days to the wolf's made my son happy. It is one of his favourite songs.
My son is still hoping to hear Astral Romance live.
An oldy but, goody.
Take care and thank you for suggesting After Forever. Floor, Mark not related but good.
Take care.
Warm greetings from The Netherlands
👍💜🍀🤘💪🇳🇱🌷🤗
Not the only place where radio SUCKS. Thank goodness for RUclips as without them I would never have discovered all the awesome European Groups out there. Would still be listening to classic rock radio as most modern stuff ……… I’ll leave that to your imagination. ❤️🤘🎸🎻🇦🇺
Lol
You guys have been busy!
Worth it to get to hear such great music from such great musicians. Thank you.
@@2ndhandsoulsmusic this was in Atlanta, October 2007, less than 2 months after that video of Tarot you just watched.
🙂🙃😉Hi
@@crissyperry1080 hello Crissy!🙋🏻♂️
Did you see the keyboardist clapping his hands after Floor’s solo? It is Sir Joost van den Broek her artistic friend an co-writer/composer (maybe you remember him from Ayreon). he is also the producer for Epica❤
Oh cool.
prime Floor at 26...so hot
Please subscribe people! It's free! I want to get a t-shirt!
The drummer is Andre Borgman. This was probably After Forever's last tour, they announced a hiatus due to the medical problems of guitarist/vocalist Sanders Gommans in 2008 and officially broke up in 2009.Most of the members went on to other bands. Floor and Joost van den Broek stared ReVamp, and the rest is history. Stay safe, God bless, and keep rocking.,
I concur. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ‼️I NEED A T-SHIRT ‼️😂
Thanks Alan. Can't wait to get the merch shelf. Don't know how it works. But when we get to 10,000. It gives us that option.
The drummer is Andre Borgman. Kai was never a member of AF.
This is from their last, self titled ,album in 2007, the band broke up in 2009.
For an older song , try Monolith Of Doubt Live At Kopspijkers (2002). 21 year old Floor.
I concur.
I concur
I concur
Can't wait.
Floor 26 years old. And been in After Forever already 10 years at that time 😊
I saw them perform this in 2007 at BB KINGS IN NYC .
Energize me, from the same concert👍🏼
The "Young FLOOR" is awesome, too!!!
That soprano solo by Floor is spine tingling. - My unpopular opinion is that Floor was even more pure in voice back then, she used to give it absolutely everything.
I agree , Floor was at her best with AF , i mean shes insanely good with revamp and Nightwish but give me AF Floor .
@@silverblack5475 totally agree!
I concur! AF Floor was out of this world.
I don't agree. Imho she was just like young people are - raw and pure exitement and showcasing all the tricks with full power but with little order or reason, why that & why now. So like a raw diamand.
Now she has those compositions, which really give a reason and story for her to tell. And I think it's her superpower - storytelling, taking you to an emotional trip/ journey. So she gives a bit less and in smaller pieces, which always leave you wanting just a bit more - even though it already was a 20 or 30 minute mammoth of a song.. And I think that's the trick the combo Tuomas & Floor does
So, in other words she has matured, and uses her talent now more intentionally & with better control
If I want the raw power, I listen to Pantera: Walk, or smtg like that with more control & variety: Jinjer or Wintersun.
She's 26 when this live performance happened
First group Floor was After Forever, where she began singing at the age of 16, After Forever was a Dutch symphonic metal band with strong progressive metal influences. The band relied on the use of both soprano vocals and death growls, in the After Forever group, Floor wrote songs, in this group she used her soprano voice a lot, in songs she mixed soprano vocals with Eastern, Arabic singing and other styles. Floor had a second group, ReVamp, this group was created by Floor, Floor wrote songs, she did almost everything to the smallest detail herself in this group, in this ReVamp group, she could go over death metal growl to full opera singing.
I'm gonna have to check Revamp out.
@@tomakazi4468 Revamp: Misery's no Crime. @ Mezz Breda 17-01-2014,ruclips.net/video/SNPesLFTnUg/видео.html here Floor Jansen almost in one breath, goes from full death metal growl to a full operatic voice with high powerful notes, and Floor does it at an incredible high level.
Now you see why nightwish wanted her she's not of this planet she was put on this Earth to sing it's all there is to be said she is the metal Queen all hell y'all roll on
After Forever only had Dutch muscisians. It was Floors band since she was 17. After Forever was pretty succesful later on and they shared the stage with Nightwish. That's how they knew Floor and her voice. After Forever fell apart, and became Epica with some members and Simone (with guitarplayer who also sings and growls) This was when Floor totally fell apart and could not sing anymore.
Not quite the accurate time line. One musician, Mark Jansen, left After Forever and formed Epica in 2002 After Forever broke up in 2009. Floor's problems included relationship issues and the band ending.
Great suggestion by Brendon. I love Floor in After Forever, it’s a shame I didn’t know them back then, I would have loved to be at their live concert’s.
Enjoy your weekend. And if you do a livestream this weekend, please let me know, so I don’t miss it again. 🫶🤘
The guitarist (Sander Gommans) who did the growling was Floor's boyfriend. The band and their relationship fell apart at the same time in 2009.
Their relationship ended in 2006 and in early 2007 the band announced that Sander wouldn't be touring with AF. He took a break for a few months, but his burn-out effectively ended the band back then already. Here's an interview that sheds some light on the matter: "Sander Gommans 2007 interview (part 4)" - ruclips.net/video/sjTdRi4d858/видео.html
A classic thank you!!!!
Finaly, try Monolith of Doubt by them and My Pledge of Allegiance next time!
After Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor) left the band to start Epica, Floor was the lyricist for the band on most of the music. She was the lyricist for this song also.
Baby Floor! Love it
have a great night souls
Yeeesss. My favourite song and recording.
❤Your reaction AND your music knowlidge.
young Floor :)
hello again fam..rock on
Hey Spike.
I still vote for Bandmaid! :))
BAND-MAID / DOMINATION (Official Live Video)
Fantastic live band they rule! :)
Floor was 26 years old here
Thank you for your response and following also my recommendation, great song is'nt it ?! Next AF suggestion is Monolith of Doubt, only problem by far too short!
Can't wait.
Young Floor she needed nothing but a keyboard backing her, and man WTF, every time I hear her, vocal perfection! Tom you guys sound great too. Georgia boy here don't just hate me cause I am a Dawg. Loving you guys though.
& now you know where Floor gets all her energy & experience from....this would have to be 1 of her best ever performances
before entering the magical world of Tuomas & his little side project called "Nightwish"...
🇫🇮 ❤ 2nd🖐souls.
Thank you Tarmo.
Orchestra was backing track, written and recorded by Ater Forever. hey lovedto expriment. It was NOT Kay or Yuka on drums. They are all Dutch.
I think it's André Borgman on drums.
After Forever is KVLT! 🤘
In this song I can hear death metal, prog, gothic, classical... Would be really hard to pigeonhole, great bands and great musicians always cross genres.
Floor is divine here, she was a goddess before she became THE Goddess. Though it's hard to understand what she's actually singing sometimes.😂
Regarding opera - yes, the TRVE OG opera only acknowledges the existence of 5 vowels and is supposed to be sung in Italian where there are 7, so it kinda works. When the same rules are applied to English or German, it becomes quite unintelligible.
It's always interesting when professionals mention the gear and different influences in the style of playing the instruments.
Yes she's incredible. What does KVLT mean?
@@tomakazi4468 "Cult". It's a black metal meme - one of many. It can mean many things, in this case that the band is one of the pioneers of the genre and really cool. K for C and V for U are stylizations, of course.
I was into the old school Norwegian black metal at some point, but the "trve" (very poor - intentionally so) sound quality and atrocious vocals were a big turn off.
AF is VBER KVLT 🖤🤘
@@BrendonChase_2015 Yes, and I can totally see why. I believe that the biggest reason is the 183cm tall one, though there is more to it. As you might have noticed, I've had the audacity to mention that I'm not a big fan of their music - not a very smart move amongst AF fans - but I wouldn't call it "bad" either. There weren't many bands like them back then. The early Nightwish can hardly be called mind-blowing, though one particular song from the first album is a trve poetic masterpiece. :) A lot of gothic there though, which is kvlt.
Today, this "female-fronted" thing is nothing new anymore, Nightwish and Epica copycats are everywhere. Just like with every other genre, including my "beloved" BM. Instead of doing kvlt things like svicides, mvrders, chvrch bvrnings and worshiping Satan, today's black-metallists are jvst middle-class knobheads sitting in their mom's basement, trying so hard to be trve and miserable. No kvlt. :)
I need to go to chvrch...🔥
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Haha, great comment! Floor factor indeed! We need more audacious kvltists like you. Fires up the comments sections, which is so desperately needed in these trying times of consensus thinking and toxic positivity!
LoL. Opera can be Sung in any language. 🤭
That growling, sounds like Mark Jansen (no relation) on guitar, who went on to form Epica.
You can hear Floor exploring her voice already.
Radio is dominated by Ca$h.
The keyboard player in this video is the same one as the on the Areon video you guys did the other day.
Oh wow.
@@tomakazi4468 One of the guitar players is in Epica don't know his name
@@harrywitt4322 You're thinking of Mark Jansen. He wasn't in this video. He parted ways with AF and formed EPICA in 2002.
@@chriso6719 Thanks for letting me know
Sir Joost van den Broek.
You do know that Nightwish is one of steve harris favoured band.
We did not know that. Thanks for the info. We agree with him.
Floor is not from this world. She is an alien sent here to bring beauty to mankind. This she did at age 26.....Can you imagine? A real Goddess. And this band was fantastic. I am 67, Dutch, and completely overlooked this scene....Even worked at a radio station. What an ignorant idiot I have been...
I think "Monolith of Doubt" was played on radio back in the day.
Please react to "Majestica - Ghost of Chrismas Past (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)". Best christmas song version ever made. Majestica is Tommy Johanssons band, one of the lead guitarists in Sabaton.
I concur.
No that drummer isn't Kai his name is Andre also she's singing in English not Italian
I think it was just too chaotic. And glad Tuomas found her and gave her just a right musical environment (home) to shine on
Well, it's prog. It has to have a million key changes and abrupt transitions from one style to another, otherwise it's no kvlt. :)
Seriously though, it's a problem with many After Forever, ReVamp and Epica songs: good music, incoherently pieced together. Floor is the real star here, without her AF would've been just an average band. I do find Nightwish compositions more much mature. Same with Lacrimosa (the band), but their dark gothic vibe is not appealing to a broader audience.
Floor really is at home with Nightwish.
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Yeah, I somewhat get the prog thing (Pink floyd, rush, kingston wall, opeth, jinjer, ayreon etc being in my playlist often). But just being prog (or metal or any other genre) isn't enough to catch me. It also has to have something special - talent, ideas, musicianship, lyrics, the whole piece - to get to be listened to again and again. So I agree with your analysis.
