    When I cut threads into a short blind shoulder I have an opposite hand bar and I run the lathe backwards so I can cut outwards. This also lets you cut faster for better Finish as well as not worrying about crashing. I use the same method with normal turning in bores just flip the bar upside down and run the lathe the same way with the lead screw backwards.

      Just gotta flip the tool.

    • @nutgone100
      @nutgone100 2 месяца назад

      @@UncleKennysPlace
      You need a left hand tool to do that with internal threads. Easy enough to buy or make, but it’s not just a case of flipping the tool.

    Quite wide variety of skills! Tip for knurling: touch off, go off the part so only a fraction of the knurling wheel overlaps, set the depth. If double tracking you can adjust it this way and once set right gradually move the tool laterally until full width is reached. Of course the handle has to be set at a slight angle to not have too much binding moving it one way. Watch for the slop not to bite in too much.
    Great video!

    Wish I had a lathe, and a CNC machine for metal, wood, and acrylic. Basically like what Steve Meade’s shop is setup, but either a CNC plasma cutter or the one with the thin wire. I think with my background in welding and those big toys I could custom-build some sweet stuff for people’s Rides.

    If your lathe chuck is not threaded on, you could turn your cutting bit over, start cutting y our threads on the opposite side and have the lather run in reversr with the carriage moving out to make a right hand thread. That way you could power feed and not do damage by crashing. If the chuck is threaded on, you run the risk of it coming loose or even off while turning in reverse. Keep in mind, it requires a different boring bar or insert tool. Might have to make your own out of oil hardening drill rod.

    For small parts if you don't want to put effort into good casting results pouring aluminum into a piece of round pipe and machining it is a lot easier, especially since the "mold" can be preheated. There are inexpensive (under $300) Chinese electric kilns on Amazon and Ebay that come with everything one needs to melt most common non-ferrous alloys.

    It would be super curious to see how well that short nozzle generated laminar flow if you had reamed and then polished your bore! All that drill bit chatter would really disrupt the flow along the walls of the bore. Oh well, I guess we will never know... or will we?!
