    The only thing about the version you made that i think could be improved upon outside of the knurling for the handle at some point, would be the "mating surfaces" of the jaws themselfs, now they seem to meet at a "point" at the top, which might cause them to leave markings if you tighten too much or if the item you're holding is softer than the jaws themselves.
    Making them meet on either a flatter and equal angle might help with that.
    I would also consider with the current jaw-angles to round out the "top" of each jaw surface, so that they don't meet at a "point" if you do indeed want to keep the current angle of the mating surfaces.
    Mind you, I am NOT a machinist, nor do i work in a tool-shop, these are just the thought of a guy who've seen far too many tool-videos on RUclips with little real-life experience on the matter when it comes to this.
    Dear god i'm sounding like such a wannabe know-it-all when i read this back to myself...

    I think you'd probably be better off making another entire tool than making swapable jaws for this one, unless you build in a way to attach the jaws without requiring removing those pins. If it takes too much time to swap out the jaws, simply having a different tool ready to go is going to be a lot more useful for actually working on projects.

    Excellent job, you are an inspiration for all makers! I have only a suggestion about the milling operation with your type of milling machine. For more cutting stability and less vibrations, if it's possible, retract the quill into the head and lift the table in Z axis. The cinematic chain of the spindle will thank you ;)

  • @joshclark44
    @joshclark44 Месяц назад

    Well, you're no machinist, but you definitely know your way around a file! Not bad! I think if I was to redesign it I'd make the thread and the handle a solid piece, with a nut going around it that can be tightened to close the vice, then add some holes so you can tighten it with the shank of a screwdriver or something. That vice always stays in the same orientation to the handle, and you can tighten it without it spinning in your hands or having to put stress on the vice jaws itself. I'm not sure if that'd be a problem, but it feels like it might be with delicate workpieces, maybe. Also, a knurled grip with a diamond pattern would definitely help! I'm not sure if I would use the through hole design either. I really don't have use for a hand vice anyway. But it would be a fun engineering challenge to try to accommodate for absolutely no reason 😄

    I think you have some Audio issues during rendering, but only the work segments, not the talk segments. It's that rhythmic low-volume "thumbing" that stays the same during normal speed and sped-up sections. Not sure, but you might wanna fix that.
