A little side note: The spiders (baseball) were owned by the same owner as another team in the league, they would essentially use the spiders as a farm team, trading anyone who showed promise to the other team in the league, St Louis if I'm not mistaken.
Also, the Spiders won the championship the year before they set the record. The brothers then sent all the good players to Saint Louis in a bunch of lop-sided trades. That is probably the worst sports team of all time, but they were supposed to be bad. Luck prevents MLB teams from losing as much as NBA teams.
@@tObito687 Literally the very next season they outlawed the practice of owning multiple teams under the same group/people. We're talking about the 1890s here lol. Also, another fun fact, Cy Young (the legend himself) was on the Spiders and was one of the players in the trades I'm talking about.

I’d just like to point out the only reason the Spiders were that bad was because the teams owner also owned another mlb team and so just moved all the good players to that team because it was in a bigger market… The idea that any team could be worse than that… actually astonishes me
Cade is trash and has no dawg in him. See this, you put Beverley or Dillon in his place, this team would NEVER lose not even 10 straight. I played lacrosse in high school and watched hockey in college, and there's actually a lot of similarities between those two and basketball as well. They all have similar rotating triangles, pick and rolls, etc. It's fascinating when you look at them from a general perspective like that. Very fascinating how the movement and scoring are all very similar in all 3 of those sports.
@@RenaldyCalixteAbsolutely. I'm not saying they're 1:1 identical, but the movements around the scoring area (in hockey and lax you can go behind the net, basketball you cant) such as triangles (6 men in lax and hockey, 5 in basketball, but again in basketball you can't be behind the net, in lax and hockey you can), pick and rolls, and man to man and zone defenses for defenders. Hockey and lax also have man up/down situations, which basketball lacks. But there are STRIKING SIMILARITIES between the three games, which is probably why I fell in love with watching basketball after I graduated high school and stopped playing lacrosse. That's really when I got into the NBA in 2009-2012 and watched the most games. Nowadays I don't watch a ton of games anymore, just look at the stat lines and probably watch the Celtics in the playoffs. Anyway, I just wanted to draw attention to all the similarities between the three sports. Again, they're not IDENTICAL but they have huge similarities in ball(puck) movement and defensive coverages, especially zone and collapsing around the scoring area.
@@alexresendes4887 sorry, screens in hockey, which the pick and roll is a variant of. Again I'm not saying they're identical. What I love about this video is that every time I thought “man it’s kinda a stretch to compare teams across different sports,” Jimmy found great ways to compare relative goodness. Fire vid 🔥
I disagree. Love these videos but these metrics are forced, cherry-picked and misleading. Firstly you have to compare the full season record of Detroit to the full season of others for this to be in any way meaningful, especially when injuries have had such an impact in the first third of the season. Secondly wins/losses are not equivalent across sports- the comparison of NBA wins to coin flips is miles off - upsets are far more likely in other sports because the value of each score in the NBA is relatively lower than MLB, NHL and NFL where scoring is harder. You can see this in MLB; the worst season record since 1900 in MLB is .235- there have been well over 50 NBA teams with worse records in the last 70 years. Similarly hockey is a sport where upsets are more prevalent as games are frequently low scoring and decided by a single goal. 16 losses in NFL - a full season over 18 weeks - is far worse than 16 losses in NBA - a fifth of the season over a month. That said - Pistons clearly suck, and i enjoy your work.
@@davidmcintosh4590in the nba many use net rating to understand where a team is really at. It's an interesting indicator. The Pistons aren't even last in this season. They are 28th. Went on to watch the game against the raports the following day when they tok the W. They might not be the best team, but they are way better than I gave them credit for. Wait until the end of the season and see their win percentage improve. They are figuring it out

I'm glad you said "worst North American" team because there's some awful teams around the world, especially in football where there's promotion and relegation. I'm pretty sure there's been teams in the premiership who didn't win a single match in a season.
Can’t think of any first-tier teams that have ever gone winless but 5th tier Scottish club Fort William FC famously went around two years without winning a single match. Probably not a team in the western world that had as bad a run as them.
During their 28-game losing streak, they kept the deficit within single digits 14 times and played very competitive games @MIA, @MIL, v DEN, @BOS. No one will argue that they're a chip contender, but they're certainly not as bad as many are making them out to be. I've never watched this team and thought they were an embarrassment. Can't say the same about the 03 Tigers, the 0-16 Lions/Browns, or most Clipper teams that Stern trotted onto the floor.
Well if you watch those 14 games where they went within single digits, and not just the highlights, you would probably realize that it's more about the opposing teams relaxing a bit than the Pistons actually trying to put up a fight.

@@RenaldyCalixte as far as I know last time that pick was moved around was in last year's four way trade between Detroit, OKC, Charlotte and New York; with Detroit taking Kemba Walker and Jalen Duren, OKC taking Ousmane Dieng, Charlotte taking Denver's 2023 1st round pick and New York taking Detroit's 2024 1st round pick (among other things) I don't actually remember if Detroit's pick was protected in the trade, but right now it's the Knicks who have it.
Pistons just ended their record on the raptors 30mins after this video was uploaded Cade dropped 30 points and 12assist….all I can say is thank you..thank Jimmy for breaking their record
The stadium at 1:00 is actually Thomond Park, a rugby stadium in Limerick, Ireland! I doubt anyone will really care but I find it kinda cool that it appeared in a very American video
5:12 This very aptly represents the problem with comparing sports like this. Modern baseball teams simply don't lose any more than this, it's how the sport works. There's a huge amount of luck in baseball and as a result even historically great teams aren't going to have a win percentage over 70 and historically bad ones aren't going to have a win percentage below 30. A baseball team putting up the win percentage of the 2016 Warriors would mean winning 144 games, the all-time record is 116. As a result there are many baseball teams that are orders of magnitude worse then the 2024 Pistons but don't seem that way based on the win-loss record. The worst of all being the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, the ownership had two teams and shipped off any players with a modicum of talent to their other ball club. The spiders were effectively a feeder team and wound up going an almost impossible 20-134. The basketball equivalent would be going 12-70, which isn't unheard of, but that isn't the result of there being worse basketball teams, it's the result of the better team winning far more often in basketball than baseball.
If you look internationally it isn't even a big deal🤷🏻♂️ Every season a ton of teams almost loosing everything. But the difference is that in other countries you go to the second division if you loose so much to keep the League competetive. Thats is a huge thing missing here in the US
it would be awesome if the top 3 G league teams got promoted to NBA and the bottom 3 NBA teams get relegated to G league lmao but the owners of the franchises and league wouldn't allow it financially. it'd be sweet though
As a non-American, I don't think US needs a relegation system. I mean sure, it's not giving chances to smaller teams that are better than them but for an American's perspective, it's just a perfect system for them. As much as i want to joke about Premier League and Championship, it's just a bigger gap for them, just as recently relegated Leicester City tearing Championship because why would you put a Prem team in the Championship.
@@RichardGreer88 this wouldnt work because g league teams are directly tied to NBA teams (i.e. Boston Celtics of the NBA and Maine Celtics of the G-League) and there is literally a system where NBA teams can shuffle players to and from their affiliate G-League team (i.e. James Wiseman)
It really isn't to them you right, I mean someone's gotta be the worst right? This how my middle school team was tho 😂 we knew we were ass (I was the only hooper) but it'd make us play more free
Yeah winning percentage isn’t actually the way to go here, Baseballs extreme amount of games makes that Royals team on the graph for example look a lot better than they actually are. That record is horrendous, probably worse overall than the Pistons lol
Dude this you miss the whole point of the video ? He coulda just said “worst team in NBA history” but he went even further to show how bad their team truly is…
One other factor in the equation is just how good the rest of the league has gotten. Seriously. It's like all the teams that were good last season made good off-season moves making them better, and almost all the teams that were young and bad last season are finally developing and starting to surpass the older teams. I mean, even the team who got the generational talent, Victor Wembanyama is only ahead of the Pistons this season by 2 wins. When everyone is this good, someone all those losses have to go somewhere, and it feels like there's really only a few teams taking the brunt of it this season. It feels like the middle ground teams are just non-existent this season
@@jakubcygan8265 really? Obviously we all knew that the Celtics, Bucks and 76ers would be good, but the Magic, Pacers, Knicks and Heat have all looked better than I was expecting tbh

Fun video as usual! Noticed a few editing/typo errors though with the years mentioned during the history recap of league originations. You say MLB is formed in 1903 and then the NHL is made 14 years later in 1917 but the graphic says 1914 for the NHL. Also when ur ranking the pistons record as the 109th worst record, you then scroll to show the 108 above it but 109 shows the 1975 Chargers instead of the Pistons. Hope this helps, this comes from a fan who really reads through every stat to fully understand it which is why I notice the small things. 😅
Mean! 😪 I was at the game tonight when they bet the Raptors. Atmosphere was like Detroit just won the championship. Your video is about the record, but I will say I’ve watched the last three games and Pistons have really stepped up their game. Duren looking fantastic. Heck, they almost won against the Nets and then #1 Celtics… so they have potential. They are much better than their record shows, I believe. Time will tell. It’s funny how short memories are. Suns were so bad that Bledsoe got traded after saying “I don’t want to be here.” And only a few years after that, the Suns were in the FINALS. So you never know, Detroit could be in the finals 3 years from now.
Funniest part about this is they’re up against the Raptors as of this comment and it’s 103 - 97 right now 😭😭😭 Edit: PISTONS WIN 129 - 127 RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I don’t see how you could say a team that didn’t win a game over the span of 4 years is a better team than this years pistons. Not to mention the winless lions and browns team were worse. The browns lost their last game of the year to the Steelers who were resting all of their starters. That means they lost to a team of backups while trying not to have a winless season.
It's a bit unfair to judge them as the season is still yet halfway. Also the game is vastly different compared to 2012, let alone compared to other sports. It's not that they're that bad, but the rest of the league has become too good, especially offensively. Even you said so in your previous video. If the 2023 Pistons match up against the 2012 Bobcats, I reckon they'd wipe the floor with them, easy.
If the rest of the League gets better, so should the Pistons. It doesn't matter if they would beat the 2012 bobcats, the piston team shouldn't be this bad when they have had the same time to develop like any other team

@@mcnamarakyExcept hockey you score less frequently than basketball and can't travel to the restricted area as easily as you can in basketball.

5 starting pitchers, 40 man roster, etc... makes it hard to be absolutely horrible. You are bound to win SOME games

Growing up, watching the Knicks and Pistons lose games was an absolute must. Detroit is smashing all expectations this year. 👌🏾
The only team that is as bad is this, is derby county in the premier league, winning only 1 game in 38 about 2.5% win percentage and yet again they tied 8, making the win/draw percentage 23%
Who’s here after the Pistons broke their streak?
Literally just about anyone who will ever watch the vid due to when it was uploaded
Finally, TY Toronto. As a soon to be 63yo native Detroit born sports fan, I have suffered thru unimaginable losing seasons for all the (so called) pro sports in Detroit.
Lions are tipping the scales right now though.
yall won a chip in 04 doe
Yeah seriously. Lions are killing it. I don't watch football but the guy next to me was from Detroit and so hype. 😂
I got a feeling this will spawn some dawgs on this young team. But we’ll have to see what these young men do after this season to take this experience and turn it into something positive
If adversity builds character, Cade is going to be Character Cunningham
It's truly been a baptism by fire for Cade Cunningham. As much as I'm sad that the streak is over, I'm incredibly happy that he is proving that he shows up no matter how bad the situation is.
it wont.
I remember in 2016 when I decided to start following the NBA. I looked up which team was my home city's team. 76's. Oh boy, where are they in the standings? Then I see this list at 3:56 and they are in the top 10 TWICE!
Immaculate timing with the pistons ending the streak✔️
Ain’t no way, they are so bad when Jimmy said “In fact they are so bad … “ @5:42 I got an ad saying “that it’s ludicrous”
That beep in the background drove me crazy. I was walking around my house looking for where the beep was coming from. 😂😂😂
love your videos Jxmy, but as a Detroit native, this one hurt haha but your analysis is spot on. If they get more vet leadership, a closer, and more shooting (or rely less on the 3), that will be a start
I love this man he makes my day ❤
Great content your doing, keep up the good work man
Toronto Raptors made headlines today. Not only did they make a trade that sent one of our cornerstones away to New York, they also became the answer to a trivia question
Gives new meaning to the term
"Bad Boys".
Jimmy jinxed it. Raptors just ended the losing streak.
The last time I bet on the Pistons I took the ML at +200 and they won. That was their last win previous to tonight 😂
Pistons just now snapped their streak 💀😭
I don’t see how you could say a team that didn’t win a game over the span of 4 years is a better team than this years pistons. Not to mention the winless lions and browns team were worse. The browns lost their last game of the year to the Steelers who were resting all of their starters. That means they lost to a team of backups while trying not to have a winless season.
Yea tf is he saying 😂😂
To be fair, Jimmy, the A's record didn't cost the city the team. It was the ownership…
Jxmmy is such a good creator. I will drop everything to watch a video, they are so well done ever freaking time.
Nah, some of his vids are mid. Like the last one. I'm tired of the Jimmy meat riders.
@@KingOfTheDungle your videos are mid
@@doglog3934 Valid point. Still, I think this video kinda portrays them as the worst team ever, which in my opinion they're not.
The Providence Steamrollers bro. I ain’t never heard of that team LMFAO 😂 😂😂
Jimmy didn't have to bury them like this 😭😭 Congrats on the win tonight, Detroit. lol
It'd be nice if they win the next game and go break their record again. They'd cement their name in History man. History, I say!
Literally at 7:38 PM the Detroit Pistons got their first win.
17 games in a football season weighs higher than 28 games in a basketball season. I do just want to mention that
