  • Big Antique Mall, Bigger Space! I Shopping & Selling
Only a week until antique malls reopen in Kentucky, and this one’s worth the wait! I expanded my space at Twin Lakes Antique Mall, an enormous emporium of vintage dealers in a national lake resort region in Gilbertsville.
We start with a visit to my newly enlarged space, where industrial furniture, functional vintage kitchen and art pieces now share space with an array of antique and vintage smalls. From there, we tour the half of the mall we couldn’t cover in my last video…this place is huge!
Slot machines and a root beer counter barrel from the 1930s are visual grabbers as we make our way through the mall’s rows of connected buildings. A shiny red bike pedals past a cowboy with clock, and another plastered to the wall. Owls flock to this mall, help us count them all!
Victorian glass in modernist colors? “Phone Home” from Star Wars? Tiki dishes from West Virginia? The antique and vintage world is full of dichotomies, which makes it fun and interesting! We’ll see a phone with no dial, one lamp from outer space and another that might have done some hard time.
Resellers and collectors alike may benefit from my review of some commonly found reproductions and fantasy items. Fakes in Shawnee Pottery, Staffordshire Dogs and Foo Lions are shown and described to protect wary antiquers. We also address a viewer’s question about depression glass reproductions.
A detailed list of items follows below…
I hope my review of this massive antique mall helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, inspires interest in more realms of collecting and informs resellers about vintage items of value! I’m happy to be sharing my real world vintage encounters with the online community, I love sharing our passion and hope we will all help each other with our antique education.
Here’s a list of other items we discover more about in this video:
Steamer trunk, Fenton Orange Tree, 1950s mod lamp, Fostoria Heirloom, Tea Leaf Ironstone, Del Prado soldiers, Lath Art, John Strain Civil War prints, Syroco plaques, Pyrex, vintage telephones and clocks, Fenton Cactus, vintage vinyl santas, leather chaps, photo developing kit, floating compass, depression glass, Wavecrest, Cambridge nude stems, Leonard Crystal, vintage typewriter, Dansk Kobenstyle, Royal Haeger, Japanese lusterware, Breyer horses, etc.

George, when you can cover and relate to anything from Austrian cold painted bronzes to Darth Vader phones, it just blows me away. You are bridging the immense spectrum of antiques, collectibles, geography, time periods, and culture. That juggling act doesn’t take place anywhere else on You Tube except on your channel. You will get the recognition and viewership you deserve. Get ready!

That blue enamel washing machine is GREAT looking! Believe it or not, we used a wringer washer (on a farm in OKLA) until I went to college in early 1970s; laundry always my job. I came home after a year and my Mom had gotten a automatic washer. Figures!

Yes, you would appreciate her tastes, the best stuff I've bought at this mall came from her spot. I know I could go longer with the videos, it's hard to get them edited in time sometimes when they're an hour. I'm getting better at one takes though!

@@TheAntiqueNomad I don't know, of course, how she prices her items, but the items she has in the booth are fantastic! Don't worry too much about the editing😉 I've noticed, a few times, where there has been a sentence cut off...and I would've liked to have known what you were saying. The section where you were put into "fast forward" made me like, "Whoa! Put on some brakes. I want to see what's along the aisles!" 😲 I'm sure there are a lot of viewers that would love an hour-long premier...or longer. I know I would.

Patty Bonilla I had a scientist from our local college bring a Geiger counter to check that once and the uranium in the glass was very low trace amounts that appear to be inert once the piece is out of the annealing process and cools down. We did find a crock cooler from the 1920s called a “Revigorator” that had been deliberately glazed on the interior with radium (like the old glow in the dark hands on watches ) that was terribly dangerous and had to be removed by hazmat.

If I were to shop Germany as an American, I would love to see and shop in Bavaria for Black Forest carving. In Stuttgart I would look for German automobile advertising. In Dresden I would look for porcelain, but in Berlin I would seek Soviet era East German military and police items, I noticed in Poland that people there understandably don't like those memories but we in America are intrigued by that because we weren't right there.

@@TheAntiqueNomad thank you so much for your insight, great list to start an adventure to see if i can find any, i do have a piece of the Berlin wall which i carved out of the wall myself. I have seen many of the police stuff ussr and stasi stuff years ago, you are right people here dont want to be reminded to the period, its still very much alive here, when they opened up the stassi archives, people discovered who was working for the stassi their brother their neighbour their aunt, and its hard to live with these facts so the berlin wall is still very much alive. And a reason why people dont want to be seen selling or having those itemsThere is a thriving business in old DDR daily live nostaligia things, a supermarket does once a year sell new pantry products packaged in the old designs, they even sell raiders than instead of twix😀, but i guess thats only interesting to the local people. I have my dads old typewriter that i played on as a kid and later took with me to college. I could always immediately recognize my papers because it typed in cursive. It has to be at least 60 yrs old. Is there somewhere i can find out it value?

You can email me a photo at TheAntiqueNomad@gmail.com. Most are black standard styles from that era and sell around $45-50 for me.

My Aunt Sunny had one with cursive. We loved it and always used it!

Yes I noticed that too. It looks different on different computers. I tried to pad the time a little on the video coming out tomorrow, we'll see how it works.
