- This is a steering upgrade kit to reduce friction between the spindle and axle on riding lawn mowers and garden tractors. This upgrade is intended to reduce the effort to steering riding lawn mowers and garden tractors. -It works best when all steering components are in good working order. All modifications and upgrades to steering components are done at one's own risk. @Outdoor-Handyman-Adventures #smallenginerepair #jonhdeere #tractor
It does help older folks and when you have bigger tires 😊
I pushed a towel through the shaft like you did and a plastic bushing came out of the bottom, lol (I stuck it back up in there). The rubbery caps that cover the E clips on mine are so old that they've lost all their elasticity and came off in pieces so I'm glad the kit came with new ones. The needle bearings were due to arrive today but only the wheel bearings showed up, so I guess this is gonna be a two-day job. Oh well, I would have had to work on mine again tomorrow anyhow as that's when the valve cover gasket arrives and I'll be adjusting my valves. Right now the motor won't turn over unless I take the spark plug out, so I know the valves need adjusting. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
I'm glad you like my video. If adjusting the valves doesn't work It could be the compression release on a camshaft. Thanks for watching.
@@Outdoor-Handyman-Adventures Got the valves adjusted and she fired up but locked up again the next day. Took spark plug out and gas came gushing out of the cylinder. Instead of rebuilding it I just ordered a new carb. By the time I get it on tomorrow it's supposed to rain the rest of the week, lol. By the time I get my next chance to mow it'll need baling instead of just mowing. The bearings slid into the wheels too easily and wouldn't fit on the axles...go figure. On the plus side, the needle bearings for the poor man's power steering went right into place.
Hopefully you'll have everything working soon. If your cylinder head is filling up with gas when the lawn mower is not in use you might need to also put a fuel shut off on your fuel line to stop the gas when not in use. I'm glad the needle bearings for the poor man's power steering went right into place and you go the valves adjusted sound like you are on your way to having your mower fixed Don't give up you can do it!
@@Outdoor-Handyman-Adventures The carb I ordered comes with an in-line shut off :) Also comes with 2 in-line filters.
That's good that the carb comes with everything you need. That should get your mower going again.
You needed to greese them.
I used a grease gun to grease them after I was done with making the video
