Blaming CTE is easy but I think a big problem for a lot of pros at the end of their career is dealing with that next step in life. Playing football in the NFL keeps you around a good unit of people and requires dedication. I'm just speculating but I think once some guys lose that locker room camaraderie they have trouble adjusting to "normal" life. I love Earl and I hope he can find peace.

One side note: Chuck Clark was, indeed, young at the time, he was in his sophomore year - but he already had the green dot on his helmet. That alone should indicate his place within the Ravens players' family. When he erupted it wasn't taken as a young kid getting frustrated. It was taken seriously.

Great video, but you said one thing that was slightly off. You said that Chuck Clark was being prepared to be "the starting safety" as if he and earl were competing for the role. In fact, Chuck Clark was the starting strong safety and Earl theoretically complemented him well as the free safety. I'm a ravens fan so I don't blame you for not following this as closely as I did, I just wanted to clarify that Chuck and Earl weren't fighting for the same job.
Also, Chuck Clark is essentially the quarterback on the defense, wearing the green dot and in general being a vocal leader (he is very well-liked and is close with the whole DB room). So while it was odd to have a much younger player calling out a legend like Earl, it really shows Earl's ego that he wasn't willing to reflect on his own actions when the top dog of his unit was giving fair criticism.

@@lucyfir2166 agreed. My point was 3 players that were fun to watch that and the stories took a dark turn. Definitely don't mean to lump Sean w/the other 2 in the off the field sense. That's a legit tragedy, the other 2 made choices.

The fucked part is that Sean Taylor came from problems and turned his life around. The other two made the reverse flip.

As a Hawks fan I feel like his problem was getting too big too quick. When he came up in 2010 he was just some young guy getting to live his dream, but within a couple years he's a key member of maybe the greatest defense ever and it got to his head. I wasn't necessarily shocked when he gave the finger to Pete and the FO but I was disappointed.

Great video, as always. I'm a stroke survivor, and what Warren Sapp described is my life. My wife also noted that my temper has had a much shorter fuse since the event.
As much as I love football, I think we're going to see it start to die out as people realize that destroying your brain isn't worth the fleeting glory.

8:33 Controversial opinion, throwing it wasn't the wrong choice. Almost everyone expected them to run it and there were other downs.
The only reason it got intercepted is some random depth secondary player had got burnt by that play in practice and happened to be on the field. There was no reason for them to expect that and if they're being honest I don't think the Patriot's and Bill Belichek had him out there for that.

@@el34glo59 That's fine. In hindsight it was obviously the wrong choice, but that's hindsight.
In the moment if Malcolm Butler isn't on the field that pass likely gets completed and they win the game. Then it's a genius move people talk about for years in a positive way.

You got that exactly right, coming from a 12 that lived through this every second. If they were "siblings" Kam would have been the responsible big brother, Sherm the crazy middle child and Earl was the introvert youngest. It was a beautiful relationship to witness all those years. I miss them all together. I pray Earl gets help and is doing okay. I think if he came and hung out with the guys in Seattle and the team. Pete would totally let him come and help just like all the other guys do. Even him not being there for the 10 year anniversary this year is wild. He need to know we want him around still too. We could not have done it without him. He is a legend!

I loved watching Earl play, it was a great time to be a Hawks fan. Then I saw his wedding photos. He totally upstaged his bride by wearing a crown and cape. He couldn't even let her have that day to shine brighter. I also believe he has CTE. Hope he gets it together and moves forward as a man that his children can be proud of.

I was so happy when the ravens picked him up and then he disappeared faster than ray rice. The NFL did ray rice dirty.
