I can relate. In high-school, by my senior year I lead all WR'sin my coference in YPC, YAC and TD's. I had amassed 3800 yards and 39 TD's from freshman to Junior year on a primarily running style offense. I also had as CB 18 picks and 4 TD's.
My senior year was supposed to be awesome. I had recruiters contacting me from some pretty decent schools, all I had to do was not suck my senior year.
Game 1 in 1987 on a 10 yard slant pass I caught the ball and was sandwiched by a DB and a LB, hit high and low respectfully at the same time from 2 different directions. I broke C6 vertebrate AND completely tore my ACL, all in 1 catch... it took 3 years to recover from it all and my dreams of college ball were gone.
Its funny how you're treated when everything is going great then in an instant everyone just acts like you never existed.

His condition is so rare that not many resources are being devoted to it. So there's no shot he gets signed in the next 10years and after that he'll be too old if some medical advances are made as far as his condition goes. Heartbreaking af but he's just got to move on. But that's not the end of the world. I pray that he realizes there is life after playing on the gridiron. If his concern is not making millions, he can lay that aside. There are lots of people who have made their millions and never played the game. In fact, it's easier to make your millions OFF the field than ON the field. Pick a new passion and apply the same discipline and intensity, and in a few years he should be doing fine when many of these first and second round draft picks are being shown the door with nothing in the bank.
