I remember practicing punting with a couple of friends. We would stand in his driveway and punting the ball over the highest into a field across the street. Should have stuck with it.

Your statement that he never learned to play with others was concise, deep and really hit the mark. Thanks so much for your take on the stories you tell.

Knowing Marquette King's past and ability, I was shocked when I saw him on the roster of our St. Louis Battlehawks XFL team last year! Shocked and excited! I was pumped to see him live! But then boom, XFL gone, Battlehawks gone, Mr. King gone. Shame. Good video, my friend. -J. Striebel

that last statement was deep to sum it up.
I still believe race played a factor, as arguably a white punter would have got free passes, media support, and praised for his unique style.
I only with dude understood what would keep him on that field getting checks, stamp their all-time record books with his name and punting til 50 years old (lol).
It could have set a new trend for inner city black kids in football, like tiger in golf, and the williams' in tennis...but it's football so it's much easier to practice this.

Like flem lo said tho, lots of inner city kids are poor and football is expensive. Even more expensive to put the extra work in (camps, pads, other gear etc.)

I'm sorry, but the race excuse in the NFL is just fucking asinine of you ask me. You can either play or you can't. To suggest organisations would jeopardize success only to want a white guy at certain positions while it's fine if they (black players) dominate other positions is just so far fetched. The more likely reason is that these organizations do their due diligence and judge if someone is an asset to the team or not period. A former black teammate said he wasn't liked for example. We are ignorant to all the reasons but race is not likely one of them.

It was his arrogance not race in this respect. He wasn't liked for trying to shine off of someone else especially someone on his team. Arrogance will always be a downfall. Before talent people have to be able to trust you.

He thought his talent would land him anywhere but he forgot he’s a punter, they aren’t as sought after, it’s a shame too, I knew as soon as he said that Gruden line during the interview that he would be let go.
