Carb is a 1150 dominator. Never got to experience the full potential of it but got to hear is sing to 8000. Most beautiful noise I ever heard as a kid. I wonder what happened to this car. Sat parked on a trailer for a long time.

If that is a Ls7 they had to change the camshaft in it because those cams had a bunch of duration you would have heard that as soon as it started they also had 12 to 1 compression so it wouldn't run on today's pump gas but you could run it on e85 with a carburetor set up for e85 you cannot truly tell what a engine is without taking it apart I have a big block that is a 427 bored 0.60 over so it's a 439 but all the inturnles are in a 454 block because the block was broke many years ago so if that is a true LS7 they tammed it down alot and that would explain why there is no Vin stamped on the front pad they were over the counter engines and never put in and car or truck from the factory that is a rare find would love to own it.
I use to own a Last of the second gen T/A it came with a chevy 305 from factory but when I got it I put a Pontiac 455 in it with a borg warner super T 10 4 spd and then bought a new GM Crate small block 383 and had a M21 4 spd trans and I swapped the factory 3.08 posi with a 3.73 posi and that car was lot's of fun and got me into lot's of trouble.
If memory serves the bottom bolt at the mechanical fuel pump, is longer and can be switched with the top bolt to hold the pump rod. Then switched back after the pump is installed.

These second generation camaros are quickly gaining popularity. They are still relatively affordable (especially compared to 1 gens) and they still are very much considered a "muscle car"... or can be when your dropping in a motor like that! Really looking forward to seeing what ya'll do with this!
That car is set up to run the MSD box and coil that other distributor was set up to work with it and it is a far better system than the stock HEI. If it’s a 6AL the L stands for limiter so you will have an adjustable rev limiter
They were using the old distributor as just a msd trigger for the ignition system simple set up . The msd system is so much better than the hei system great find I been searching for a car like this for awhile , I had a 79 years ago loved it I drive a 64 Chevy II now thanks for the video. 👍💯✌️
Brake cover rubber is supposed to be on the cover, Replace it and top it off. Chances are you'll be replacing wheel cylinders. At the very least, be sure to feel all the brake lines for rust & dry rot (brittle)
My favorite year of the camaro, my brother had a friend that had one in high school. Sadly, I passed up a chance to buy it off him later in life. I still regret it to this day 😢
VIN Engine code is "H" for a 305 which was standard for the Z28 in all states except Cali and optional for all others including Cali Z28s. Was built in Van Nuys.
That is awesome! My dad has an 80 model Z/28 and he has owned a crap ton of Camaros over the years mostly second gens and third gens. I saw where you pointed out that the car has been unregistered since ‘03 but there’s evidence that the car has been tinkered on at some point in time after that year. That Spectra air filter wasn’t available until the mid to semi late 2000’s (other brand of course already had their own versions), but that specific Spectra full open element filter came out in the mid 2000’s. Definitely a very solid looking Camaro. The brake master cylinder came out of a third gen Camaro or a 88-98 Chevy pick up truck. That car would have originally had a cast iron brake master cylinder so someone has upgraded the master cylinder. It’s good that it has the support rods in the front corners of the engine bay those are very hard to find nowadays. What a cool find! Keep making videos like these! Love it!
This kind of reminds me of a Z28 I saw at a car show years ago.. A guy pulls in and parks a pretty nice 79 Z28. He gets out and opens the hood. There sat a Ford 292 Y block truck motor, complete with the stock 2 bbl and the exhaust crossover pipe over the front top of the engine. Inside the car, the floor was cut out for the stock granny low 4 speed-the transmission was mostly exposed. I stood back and listened for comments. You should have heard the Chevy guys CRY! I thought it was so funny!
Wow!! Now that is funny. Friend of mine has a 62 vette he built for his wife. All completely stock outside..has valve covers taht have Ford Stamped on it Pisses off the purist guys at every cruise night. 327 looked bone stock except for headers. Had extensively ported 2.02 camel humps and careful block work to fit the 383 rotating assy. Very quiet, nice, barely noticable idle. Ran low 12s later went 11.9 with afr 195s
Good luck on the "mouse stuff"! I sold my '69 SS el Camino to my friend and he willed it to my daughter when he passed. It hadn't been started in 23 years and 15 of them were in a barn surrounded by black berries. Mice thought the exhaust pipes and Hookers were a hotel. One of the cylinders stopped with the valves both open due to the overlap. I did everything right: new oil & filter, primed the hell out of it, removed the plugs and put three good squirts of oil in all the cylinders, and then cranked it with the distributor in so everything was oiled! Put the plugs in and fresh clear premium and it fired right up, ran maybe 5 seconds and died. It did this about 5 times. The last time, I heard a little "klink" when it stopped and it wouldn't turn anymore. It was nothing major as long as major isn't the #5 exhaust valve corroded down to 1 13/16" dia. and broke off it took out a 1 1/2" x 4" piece out of the side of the cylinder. The good news? The original block was gone before I bought it back in 1991. Found a great deal on a '72 402 short block so, it's alive again! BTW, Ive got an LS6 with the same block. It was cast in march '72 but, the numbers on the front say it's a '70 LS6 with a th400.
The worst one I ran into was my 1969 Super Bee. It sat in a barn for 26 years and the mice and rats ate everything. They filled the rear quarters with cactus and the trunk was about 8"-10" deep with stuff. The seats were literally full of stuff. Had to wear a respirator to be able to enter it. Thank for watchin'.
it is most likely a Z28. the P in the 5th digit of the vin is for both Sport Coupes and Z28. the H in the 8th digit is for the 305, which is the LG4/Z28 engine. the 10 digit is B for 1981, in 81 the Z28 only had the 305 available with the 4speed and the 350 LM1 with the automatic. from the vin number it looks like it was built in early May of 1981 at the Van Nuys assembly plant in LA. the first car built in may was 16093 and the last car built in May was 178115. so most likely the first week in May. they made about 3756 Camaros a week at the LA plant. so defiantly first week of May. also i can tell form the floorboard of the car, that it is an original factory 4 speed T-top car. very nice find. these fenders look original to the car, so i suspect its an original Z28. on LA built cars there is no markings to tell if it is a real z28. only way to tell 100% is the build sheet. the good news is the LA cars were used as rolling trash bins as they were assembled and usually had built sheet stuffed all over in them. usually under the front seats, under the carpet, and on top of the gas tank. my 1971 SS 396 4 speed car had 2, one on top of the gas tank, and one stuff up under the dash in the wiring behind the glove box. from the trim tag, it had blue custom cloth interior, vode 26C and 21L and 21U are the paint codes for Light Blue. so looking at the paint in the trunk and the paint on the inside of the engine compartment, i am pretty confident that this is an actual Z28 4 speed top car.
Strange that someone would install an LS7 and use exhaust manifolds. This car would be worth the time to cosmetically restore it and add a new 5 or 6 speed

I own an '81 Z28 D5A 350 block 4 speed t--top PW car, with 34,000km or 22,000m on it. It's a "Canadian Special" one of 3025 that were made for Canada only! The only way you could get a z28 with a 4 speed was with a 305. All 350's had an automatic in the US in a z28. (emission laws) in the US.
Found a late 80s Iroc less than 1 yr old. Ordered from Hawaii. That had a 350 and T5 only one like it ive seen to this day had the G92 rear axle to it roasted 1-2 with no problem.
The big block is a ton of weight for that car the torque that it gives is nice but they handle like crap with a big block in them since the ass end is so light in them cars need some at least aluminum heads on that thing to lighten the front end up or a go with a nice small block or LS because the lighter you can make the front ends of them cars the better unless you want to have no control of the ass end and with a posi it would make you spin right out really easy.
I can vouch for handling like crap , my first car was a 79 berlinetta with a mild mods . At 21 years old it couldn't stop itself at 100 mph and run a stop sign. Made the right turn and and only took a wooden stake to passenger door after the ditch on the wrong side of the road . Was 16 and got into a fight with step dad and had shotgun shoved in my face just before getting in the car
This clown is painful to watch. He gets to to kick with little fuel then immediately rotates the distributor No surprise it didnt light That Dominator has primary and secondary 50cc accelerator pumps I was waiting for it to light his face. This is great video showing what not to do
The only motor in the camaro that is a holy grail is the 302DZ motor that is I believe a 327 block with a 289 crank and this makes a very short stroke rev happy motor that was specifically designed for nascar to meet the motor size regulations to race! It has been said to me that they make anywhere from 450-550HP from the factory and would very easily rev to 8000RPM out of the box!
They used a 283 crank, it was made for Trans-Am racing . They were limited to 305 ci. I was getting 9800 rpm in my 69 Z/28 my biggest regret selling it.
the DZ302 was made for T/A racing... not NASCAR.. back when the DZ302 was in the 1st gen Camaros... NASCAR was running big blocks limited to 429cid.. and chevy was running chevelle variants, Malibus, Lagunas and monte carlos.. not Camaros.. in 1972 NASCAR limited the displacement to 358cid.. other GM cars running NASCAR were Buick Regals and Centurys.. Pontiac Grand Ams.. Olds Cutlasses and 442s..
No mention the added frame rails...?! That was an old school 80-90s drag Camaro...! Judging by the valve covers, early 90s...! I have an 81 set up very similarly with a 468cid/ th400... Also, a 79 Z28 clone, but has a 454cid/th400 with OD and a 71 SS 350cid/ 4-speed corner carver with all factory drive train, but has all modern/ QA1 suspension front and rear... 2nd generation Camaros are the best...!!!
Alot of people over carburate engines ,I had a mildly built bbc roller motor 10.5 to 1 4.30 rear gear with a 750 cfm on it ,best past was with a 650 double pumper on it ,12.20 street tires and slapper bars in 36 Ford rat rod p/u

Very funny. I’m no expert but hat looks like a problem”. I had one back in the 80’s , damn, I wish I still had it, fun car and made a lot of friends of the opposite sex
I had a bunch of these cars all 80 z28s. It's real easy just look at the data plate under the hood if it's a z28 it'll literally say z28 on the plate. Also if it's a 4 speed car they all came with a 305 all the automatic cars came with a 350.
Thanks for watchin'. I appreciate it. Be sure to tell your friends about the channel. I always thought those cars were good lookin' cars. Very slow, but good lookin'.
There are two connections on the Distributor there is the distributor to cap plug and then the main 12 volt feed and the other is a connection for a RPM Tach. you got to have the dist to cap connection on and the 12 volt feed wire connected
it looks like someone took that car drag racing, the ladder bars would have been needed for traction control with that LS7. also cars running in the 11.99 and fast would have required a Scatter shield bell housing (that looks like an old Lakewood unit), and a drive shaft safety loop. the carb looks like a Holley Dominator. also looks like it may have had factory AC. the oil cooler bypass in not a 100% that its a 4 bolt. but most 4 bolt blocks do have the oil bypass fittings, on 1970-72 big block Camaro's, there is a 45-degree fitting that moves the pursue unit out of the way of the clutch cross bar. that trans looks like a Muncie. I hate to see them that broken up, I love old 4 speed cars.
@@jeffbarkley3915 the original LS series engines were Mark IV Big Block Chevys. LS-1 was a 427, introduced in 1969 that made 335HP, the LS-5, 6 and 7 were introduced in October of 1970. the LS-5 was a 454 making 365HP passenger cars and 390hp in the Vette, the LS-6 454 is infamous for its 450HP. The LS-7 was intended to replace the L88 and ZL1 engines for secret factory backed racing clients, just like the L88 and ZL1 427s, however GM lifted the ban on racing, so they were never installed in production cars, however production of the engine had already started, GM decided to offer these engines as over the counter crate engines. in both short block and long block form. they were extremely popular and GM continued production of them in to the late 80s. the LS-4 was introduced in 73 and made 275 net HP as compared to the prior engines that were rate in Gross HP. the LS4 gross HP would be around 325HP. the LS4 is the most common 454 as it was also used in both light and heavy duty trucks, motor homes, and marine applications. variants of it were used until the introduction of the Gen V big block in 1991. when the L19 454 replaced it. during that time both LS6 and LS7 engine were available over the counter from GM of high-performance application, and a warranty replacement. in fact they also offered L88 and ZL1 CanAm blocks and heads as replacement until the mid 70s until supplies ran out, but they kept production of the LS6 and LS7 engines going in to the late 80s. I personally owned a 1976 Hondo drag boat with a LS7 in it. it was really fast, but it dropped a valve and I replace it with an L88. the L88 was much more powerful and revved higher than the LS7. GM resurrected the LS RPO codes for the gen 3 small blocks in 1997. but to be honest the only thing the LS series engine share with the small block chevy is the 4.4 inch bore spacing. and there is no parts interchangeability between gen 1 or gen 2 small blocks. hope this clarifies things for you.
You are referring to the new LS7's, not the old LS7's. Check out the XCH suffix code on line and you will see Chevy made more thank on LS7. Thanks for watchin'.
Just to put your mind at ease, look closely at the video again. The #1 spark plug wire is connected to the #1 spark plug via the spark tester. The spark tester is connected between the yellow plug wire and the #1 spark plug. Thanks for watchin'.
No wonder the aluminum case manual transmission is busted, it has a 500 horsepower and 500 to 600 torque crate engine in it. And if someone has blueprinted it, it could have way more.
A car like this might be good for a complete restomod, stripped down to bare metal and rebuilt from the ground, up but, I don't know that it would be worth the money.
Watching you trying to get it started and it popping and banging is because your timing is 180 out it's a big block it will like 12 degrees at TDC at fire up then progress to about 34 wide open it definitely sounds like your timing is way out.
Manual transmission late second generation Camaros are a heck of a score. I don’t know why everyone in the ‘70s ordered the auto trans. It’s supposed to be a sporty car! I had a 1972 RS clone and a 1978 Type LT. I think the auto Z-28 got 3.42 gears and the manual got 3.73….or vice versa. All the base models received ridiculously tall 2.41 gears 😆
The casting number is a Tonawanda 72-75 454 casting, but a LOT of those were 're-tasked' to other sizes...you have to look at the deck plate for positive ID...you're looking for 'CTB' specifically. If 'CTB' is stamped (not cast) into the deck plate, it is most-likely a 402 (1/8th inch smaller bore) than a 454. A NUMBER of people have made this same mistake, only to tear it down and find they had a mysterious 402, where they think it should be a 454. Someone below says they 'knew the car' from childhood...but if it were an LS7, if would OF COURSE have aluminum heads...which they don't appear to be (which is VERY MUCH in contradiction to a 72-75 casting date, to start with...). Check for your deck plate stamping number...it is the 'final say' on what that engine is...as it tells you what the raw casting was finally 'machined out' to be.
i got a 79 z28 rs t top it will be my next project got 2 extra z28's for parts one has new custom interior in it then i got a 450 hp 454 with a 02xx trans and a t-10 4 speed with a new clutch and fly wheel for the 454 got all the parts to put it together got every thing for free . i been collecting parts for it for a few years y i build my 68 pu
@jeffrey4547 the only ls6 454 is a bbc ,a friend has a 70 ls6 454 chevelle it's definitely a big block ,looks the same as my 540 ,bbc have 7 bolts on valve covers sbc have 4 ,the biggest small Chevy made was a 400 small block ,the only other LS motor I'm aware of are the new ones ,I'd have to see that to believe it
so are we not gonna talk about the external coil he is over looking. thats why they clipped the wires to the HEI. one end is chewed but at the dist it is clipped. and the piece missing in the dist is the ICM
Apparently, I did not explain it well enough in the video, but what you are saying is incorrect. There was a lot of wiring chewed for the MSD stuff so I abandoned the MSD stuff and connected the factory wiring that was just sitting there. I installed a new distributor and coil into the car. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for watchin'.
Not sure about "holy grail" if I'm being honest, an all iron, 12:1 compression big block requires 100 octane fuel, and weighs 700 lbs. Maybe 40 years ago....
Really. That car was set up as a mild drag race set up. Sub frame connectors an Sfi scattershield, driveshaft hoop and ladder bars with a multiple spark discharge ignition box. And please next time fill the fuel bowls
What's wrong with that? Works well if you know what you're doing. The HEI he took out was set up correctly to run with the MSD box and coil. You can see they took the ignition module out of the distributor and took the coil out just like you're supposed to do. The new one he put in bypassed the MSD. I ran HEI with msd for several years without an issue
You asked for speculation on the horsepower rating on that LS-7 …… I say enough to frag a 4 speed …😏😜. Looks like possibly a Lakewood bellhousing assembly also ahead of that now worthless 4 speed ( it’ll make a great coffee table conversation piece however😆). I was kinda hoping to hear that baby run ( a whole lot better than those pops & farts anyway) and am a little saddened you cut the video short . That Holley Dominator Carb was an eye opener when you popped off the filter lid . Someone put a lot of money into that car , and in the right hands and with some tuning finesse could be a real sleeper out on the streets at night , especially with those cast iron manifolds and big Hemi Sized turbo mufflers . Keeps it pretty much in “ Stealth -mode “ Hopefully either you , or someone else will get this baby back out on the road , one headlight , patina & bondo & primer & all ,and shake up a few Tesla owners .😎👍
Who cares! It's a Standard Shift! That's the most important aspect! Yall can take your slush box Automatics to the scrap yard. If the trans isn't a Muncie M22. Make sure to investigate it thoroughly because you'll need a M22 or a newer Tremec 5 or 6 speed to handle that Big Block torque. Good find guys.👍
That crap trans isn't going to handle no 500hp BBC!! ROFL!! Gonna need a built TH350 or TH400 in that thing. If you wanna stay with manual trans, prepare to drop some bucks for one that will handle that kind of torque. It definitely has potential to be a sweet ride! P.S. Learn to set timing! T = Tonawanda 0716 = July, 16th XCH = XCH is the suffix for the over the counter 454 LS7 crate engine. This engine was purchased over the GM parts counter, it started life as a bad ass piece, handle it with loving care! If nobody has changed any parts out of this engine, you have a 12.25:1 compression engine. You will need to run high octane fuel or set your timing way back. Don't cause detonation, it will destroy your engine. 4 bolt main, heavy duty rods, forged piston, steel crank, req port heads. It's badass. With right fuel and timing, should be an easy 600+hp engine. Enjoy! 💪
That car is a peach compared to most of the late second gens. I think Chevrolet purposely built those cars to rust in the floor pans, lower quarters, and rocker panels. The interiors don’t seem to hold up well either. Regardless, aftermarket parts are definitely plentiful! Shame about the 4 speed though
1st comment ( I know that car). I was about to say there wasn’t anything made in 1981 that I would consider a holy grail engine. Maybe Holey not Holy. Why would you look for transmission tube, you already knew it was a 4 speed.

That car is set up to run the MSD box and coil that other distributor was set up to work with it and it is a far better system than the stock HEI. If it’s a 6AL the L stands for limiter so you will have an adjustable rev limiter
Thanks for watchin'. I appreciate it.
They were using the old distributor as just a msd trigger for the ignition system simple set up . The msd system is so much better than the hei system great find I been searching for a car like this for awhile , I had a 79 years ago loved it I drive a 64 Chevy II now thanks for the video. 👍💯✌️
I've got some 1964 Chevy II video coming up soon. Thanks for watchin'.

Thank you 👍
I still do as well. However, we have a saying at the shop..."I hate cars". LOL

Brake cover rubber is supposed to be on the cover, Replace it and top it off. Chances are you'll be replacing wheel cylinders. At the very least, be sure to feel all the brake lines for rust & dry rot (brittle)
I loved the cars, had 2, but never felt compelled to make a 150 horsepower clone camaro!
My favorite year of the camaro, my brother had a friend that had one in high school. Sadly, I passed up a chance to buy it off him later in life. I still regret it to this day 😢
I hate it when that happens. I've had a few of those situations as well. Thanks for watchin'.
Love it!
Also one more tidbit, on real Z/28’s it should have black trim surrounding the rear windshield instead of chrome if memory serves correctly
Glad you liked it. I had fun making it. Thanks for watchin'. Be sure to tell your friends about the channel!!!.
That would have been very interesting to see. Thanks for watchin'.
yes it is usually the other way, fords with chevy engines
@@jimsix9929b funny to see a Ford powered by Chevy. It wouldn't last long or go far
Wow!! Now that is funny.
Friend of mine has a 62 vette he built for his wife. All completely stock outside..has valve covers taht have Ford Stamped on it
Pisses off the purist guys at every cruise night. 327 looked bone stock except for headers. Had extensively ported 2.02 camel humps and careful block work to fit the 383 rotating assy. Very quiet, nice, barely noticable idle. Ran low 12s later went 11.9 with afr 195s
Bud. You got a dominator on that engine,,gonna need more than a Tspoon of fuel!!😂😂😂😂
Thanks for watchin'. I appreciate it.
When hooking up an msd box you have to remove the ignition module and resistor inside the cap
Lots of good info. Thanks for watchin'.
As an owner of an original 81 Z28, I completely agree with you 👍

Strange that someone would install an LS7 and use exhaust manifolds. This car would be worth the time to cosmetically restore it and add a new 5 or 6 speed

I got a LS7-454 XCH in my 70 Chevelle SS
Bought it a couple years back in its original Crate
That engine only runs on Race fuel
Came with 990 rectangle port heads
1.88 2.19 valves open chambers
5140 Forged Crank
4340 forged connecting rods 7/16 bolts
9180 cam (Same as ZL-1)
Forged high dome pistons
They crank to 7800 RPM
My Ls7 runs a 1050 dominator
MSD 6AL-2 ignition
Holley electric fuel pump
110 octane
High rise air gap 454-R intake
They put out over 600hp
Also above the timing cover if it’s a LS7 it will Say LS7 on the suffix pad
Also it’s a solid lifter
Sounds like a great engine. Thanks for watchin'.
B.S.
I'm thinking it's only revenge to 7800 rpm 1 time ,call bs on that rpm
Had an 81 Z-28, cool car, but couldn't pass California Smog, as it was an Arkansas vehicle.
Do you know if the owner would consider selling? Dream car of mine. Sweet video. Thanks
Thanks for watchin'. This car was sold about the time the video came out. Sorry.
That had a 350 and T5 only one like it ive seen to this day
had the G92 rear axle to it roasted 1-2 with no problem.
Well I injoyed the video I thought it very good
Glad you liked it. Thank you.
Oh No he's putting power to the distributor and he has a msd. I'm sure there is no module. but, learning curve.
Same thing I was thinking
Cant go to a small block of either gen after having a BB. Doesnt affect handling that bad
@@JosephThomas-t3n THose cars drove real nice, stopped too when they were new
This clown is painful to watch. He gets to to kick with little fuel then immediately rotates the distributor No surprise it didnt light That Dominator has primary and secondary 50cc accelerator pumps I was waiting for it to light his face. This is great video showing what not to do
I was forcing myself to finish this video. Damn, it won't start on a tsp of fuel, kept throwing the timing around... Call Derick.
My buddy in high school had a white w black stripes 68 rs/ss had the 302dz dual gate shifter was fun to ride in
They used a 283 crank, it was made for Trans-Am racing . They were limited to 305 ci. I was getting 9800 rpm in my 69 Z/28 my biggest regret selling it.
Made roughly 330 out of the showroom. Traco had them around 480 for tracks .
the DZ302 was made for T/A racing... not NASCAR.. back when the DZ302 was in the 1st gen Camaros...
Looks like a solid candidate for a resto-mod
That's exactly what's happening to it. I talked with the new owners and that's what they are going to do. Thanks for watchin'.
Great video👍🏼
Thank for watchin'. I appreciate it.
FYI the fuel pump pushrod trick only applies to the small block.
I didn't know that. I guess I never tried it on a big block. Thanks for watchin'.
Seeing that Dominator carb on the top would make me think that is a killer motor. Alot of work has been done to it.. It's a big breather..
Alot of people over carburate engines ,I had a mildly built bbc roller motor 10.5 to 1 4.30 rear gear with a 750 cfm on it ,best past was with a 650 double pumper on it ,12.20 street tires and slapper bars in 36 Ford rat rod p/u

There are two connections on the Distributor there is the distributor to cap plug and then the main 12 volt feed and the other is a connection for a RPM Tach. you got to have the dist to cap connection on and the 12 volt feed wire connected
My friend had an 81 z28 that we restored. Sad day when he sold it
Forget my previous comments except for the transmission.
Scatter Shield + Ladder bars + drive shaft loop spells DRAG CAR!
Not always. I put a loop and scattershield on all my st cars.
it looks like someone took that car drag racing, the ladder bars would have been needed for traction control with that LS7. also cars running in the 11.99 and fast would have required a Scatter shield bell housing (that looks like an old Lakewood unit), and a drive shaft safety loop. the carb looks like a Holley Dominator. also looks like it may have had factory AC. the oil cooler bypass in not a 100% that its a 4 bolt. but most 4 bolt blocks do have the oil bypass fittings, on 1970-72 big block Camaro's, there is a 45-degree fitting that moves the pursue unit out of the way of the clutch cross bar. that trans looks like a Muncie. I hate to see them that broken up, I love old 4 speed cars.
Pretty sure an LS7 is a small block Corvette engine introduced in 2008
@@jeffbarkley3915 the original LS series engines were Mark IV Big Block Chevys.

I'm getting aggravated watching you try to start the engine with the number one plug wire off
Just to put your mind at ease, look closely at the video again. The #1 spark plug wire is connected to the #1 spark plug via the spark tester. The spark tester is connected between the yellow plug wire and the #1 spark plug. Thanks for watchin'.
Too bad we wont see a build series on this monster. She has all the trappings of a fine hot rod.
No wonder the aluminum case manual transmission is busted, it has a 500 horsepower and 500 to 600 torque crate engine in it. And if someone has blueprinted it, it could have way more.
Ls7 454 crate motor.
A car like this might be good for a complete restomod, stripped down to bare metal and rebuilt from the ground, up but, I don't know that it would be worth the money.
I actually know the car for sold to someone who is going to do just that to it. Thanks for watchin'.
Watching you trying to get it started and it popping and banging is because your timing is 180 out it's a big block it will like 12 degrees at TDC at fire up then progress to about 34 wide open it definitely sounds like your timing is way out.
It ran some, so it's not 180 degrees out... but may be poorly timed...
Looks Like some valves have gliding issues. Check them and their joints/conduits.
Can't you drop the distributor in with the rotor pointing at number 1,tdc on compression stroke?
I actually did that after shooting what you saw. The video didn't turn out the best so it got edited out. Sorry. Thanks for watchin'.
You bring it up on top dead then back it down to around 12 degrees before then stab distributer pointed straight at #1.
Only way they could pass epa strict mileage requirements. My Dads 73 Impala had the same thing
At TDC, always point rotor at #1
I need 2 get ahold of them, I need some help on my 68 nova!!
100% it’s a 4 bolt main. The big bung is for an external oil cooler though.
Check for your deck plate stamping number...it is the 'final say' on what that engine is...as it tells you what the raw casting was finally 'machined out' to be.
i got a 79 z28 rs t top it will be my next project got 2 extra z28's for parts one has new custom interior in it then i got a 450 hp 454 with a 02xx trans and a t-10 4 speed with a new clutch and fly wheel for the 454 got all the parts to put it together got every thing for free . i been collecting parts for it for a few years y i build my 68 pu

so are we not gonna talk about the external coil he is over looking. thats why they clipped the wires to the HEI. one end is chewed but at the dist it is clipped. and the piece missing in the dist is the ICM
You don't need the control module the MSD box replaces it
Relocate the shocks and the right rim tires get wider
The suffix code 3 letters from that tab will tell you everything about the block and heads stock.
This is the exact way Dad and I bought motors back in the days for our 20 plus Novas. Quick and easy identification.
You know the LS7 with a really good tune can crack 700hp . The 6&7 are numbers that give the clue to their real potential.
I was trying to see if it has rec or oval port heads. The heads are marked if you know what to look ror.
I was guessing 396 maybe 454
Thanks for watchin'. I appreciate it.
Not sure about "holy grail" if I'm being honest, an all iron, 12:1 compression big block requires 100 octane fuel, and weighs 700 lbs. Maybe 40 years ago....
Thanks for watchin'. I appreciate it.
What kind of gear was on the original distributor?? Brass or steal. Might have chewed up the distributor gear based on cam type
Really. That car was set up as a mild drag race set up. Sub frame connectors an Sfi scattershield, driveshaft hoop and ladder bars with a multiple spark discharge ignition box. And please next time fill the fuel bowls
Hmm auto-purging!
Trying to put a hei distributor with a mad box lol.
XCH is the suffix for LS7.

Fill the bowls through the vents let it soak. Manifolds really
it's gonna take a lot of love if it's worth it it's still a camaro 19 and 81
You asked for speculation on the horsepower rating on that LS-7 …… I say enough to frag a 4 speed …😏😜.
WHAT? He doesn't WANT to do any more?? This is an AWESOME ROCK n ROLL MACHINE!!! AHH!! Fix it all the way and set her free!!!
Dude power wire should be on the blaster coil not the cap
Thanks for watchin". I appreciate it.
T = Tonawanda
0716 = July, 16th
XCH = XCH is the suffix for the over the counter 454 LS7 crate engine.
Enjoy! 💪
I just told you the box is fired by the pick up coil
If it's a holy Grail motor and it's a true 81 then it would have to be the turbocharged yenko, the last true yanko cars made.
90% of the LS7s are stamped XCH on the center pad
Thanks for watchin'. Be sure to tell your friends about the channel.
If those plug wires are steel core not compatible with the 6al box
If you don't have the fuel line hooked up pumping the carb isn't going to do any good
You would normally be right, however, off camera, I filled the fuel bowls on the carb. Thanks for watchin'. I appreciate it.
It's broken pull it out rods hanging out
1st comment ( I know that car). I was about to say there wasn’t anything made in 1981 that I would consider a holy grail engine. Maybe Holey not Holy. Why would you look for transmission tube, you already knew it was a 4 speed.
GM performance made those engines up into the late 90s early 2000s. That engine never came in a car. Was bought from a GM parts dealer
Plastic master cylinder is the 1981 only tip off.
