It's interesting to think that one of the reasons for the early success of airplanes over things like Zeppelins was that airplanes were much more rugged and needed less infrastructure. All you needed was a dirt strip and some jerry cans of gas and you had an airfield, which you could land on and take off from even in some pretty serious adverse weather. But since then airports have gotten more and more sophisticated and built up, and some planes (like fighter jets and stealth vehicles) need to be really carefully taken care of. Though there are still a few bush pilots out there.
