How Could Maryland’s Bridge Collapse Impact Drivers?

- The terrifying images of the Maryland bridge disaster could be triggering fear of crossing bridges among thousands of motorists across the U.S. It's called gephyrophobia. Bridge phobias are so common that police at the Delaware Memorial Bridge offer escorts to get from one side to the other. Inside Edition’s Steven Fabian crossed the bridge with Sgt. Steve Burkhead of the Delaware River and Bay Authority Police.
If you react THAT severely, you should not be behind the wheel. The way she was panicking and intentionally covering her view of the surroundings makes her even more dangerous than a drunk driver
Ha right, had to be blonde as well😂😂😂
Agreed
that reaction makes her more dangerous on the wheel than a bridge.
I agree!
@Desert_Marcupial hello gorgeous 😍
If you're reacting like that while driving, you shouldn't be behind the wheel
and why would someone allow themselves to be filmed freaking out like that. It's embarrassing.
Try telling that to somebody that needs to be behind the wheel. 😂
try using your brain. This is only going over a bridge
For sure nobody should be driving that reacts like that.
Fr 😅
please do not close your eyes while driving over a bridge for the love of god 😭😭

Why can’t these people live somewhere that doesn’t have or barely has bridges? Lol

I wouldn’t have guessed a collapsed bridge would cause people driving problems.
These "problems " existed before any bridge falling..🙄
I always have the fear in the back of my head but I don’t break down like this girl, I just try to get across as fast as possible - without speeding of course.
Inside literally did a story about a service that takes people across the bay bridge for a fee, this phobia has existed as long as bridges have, obviously.

😂😂😂😂
She has a phobia. Don't make fun of her. I'm sure you have something that scares you
She's not dramatic that fears real illogical or not her body really believes it could die. HOWEVER if that's how what happens when she drives on a bridge. WHY IS SHE DRIVING ON A BRIDGE. Got a perfect solution for you lady take the fairy or move.
If you're gonna close your eyes while driving, you shouldn't have a licence.
Overreacting much? Why is she allowed behind the wheel?

@@user-vx7vi3vq1c that’s not necessarily true there’s usually other ways to avoid bridges nowadays
It might affect drivers because there isn't a bridge there anymore.
I’ve always hated bridges, and this definitely made it worse.

for real. i can't believe this.

This is such a rare event. Though it’s understandable how a big event can have an impact on people’s perception and moreso fear of doing the normal activity, much like the impact on people flying in the wake of 9/11
I flew to NYC 17 years after 9/11. I WILL say that I was scared of flying, especially being my first ever flight. Luckily I wasn't the pilot 😅 and while I understand her fear, she either needs an autopilot car for the bridge section or a driveR.
What would a police escort do against a collapse
So you dont die alone.

This is really sad 😢 keeping all involved including the family and friends of the ones that lost their lives. I want to send my sincere and deepest heartfelt sympathy and condolences 🙏🙏🙏
I am glad I don’t have panic attacks on the bridges like this. Mine has to do with the bridge height to the water.
You should be scared. Two bridges went down yesterday. I don't think it was an accident because of the trading ports nearby.
🤡
What was the other one?
she should not be on the road then!
Hey there Inside edition love yall! ❤
slow news day huh
CNN is like that all day everyday if they caught someone pooping anywhere they'd record it and talk about it making the morning or after noon news

The bridge collapses thing is not funny
This was one of my favorite places to get sunrise shots, I literally live 10 mins away from the Key Bridge, or what once was the Key Bridge. Very sad situation, those guys were doing their job and lost their lives, very sad.

I thought this was going to cover the traffic change in baltimore because of the reroute, not talk about some phobia 😅
I saw someone who provides service to get people across.
And you're on the news organization that reported it 😂
..... On inside edition.
There's a business that drives people over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (from Annapolis to Kent Island). It's 4.3 miles long, more than twice the length of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. A catastrophe is sometimes on my mind when crossing it.
Its literally in the video lol
That was staged wonder what they paid her to do that
Sorry she's dangerous too me .
About 8 years ago in Bonney Lake WA a young couple named the Ellis family was crushed to death with their infant by a bridge collapsing from construction around 10AM. I lived a mile down the road and had a baby at the time. My husband passed under the bridge an hour before. This family was going to home depot. I developed severe anxiety going under bridges. That bridge very few would go under it for months. I still get panic, sweaty hands, and anxiety when thinking about driving under. RIP Ellis Family.
I understand & have that anxiety.I am so in sorrow over those hard workers that died when the bridge collapsed.😪
I’m so happy that my brother is safe bc he lives in Baltimore but rip to the people that died
If you’re scared, I was told to roll all my windows down so that you can swim out of the window if the bridge falls
Omg I didn't know this had a name , I thought it wasn't very common 😭
I have always been TERRIFIED of crossing bridges (but I didn’t know it had a name either)
Hey kianna
Good on that police dispatcher.... he saved many more countless lives.
Rest in peace to all of the victims.
I live in Virginia and this was such a terror, my prayers go to everyone who passed and those who have families who passed. May God bless all ❤
I go to university in baltimore, and it's tragic. some of the peers I interact with r working with the victims' families for trauma support and therapy
Bridge phobia is different than how this whole bridge collapse will affect the people in this area. I was expecting to hear backup traffic, further drives etc. not bridge phobia 😂
Why would you cause a lady to drive over the bridge while having a panic attack!? That’s dangerous!!
She should not be driving if she doesn't want to look
I really wanna know who is the captain of the ship. Im sure he's in a hot seat.. 😂😂
So hard to see so many people gone from the tragedy and all the struggles on the road.
If the police hadn't acted when they did, even more lives would of been lost. They had less than a minute to clear as much traffic as they could and shut the bridge down before it collapsed.
I drive safely and normally but I have always had a fear of bridges and this does cause more fear for me especially with this bridge where I live in Maryland and now another one in OK? In one week is scary but like many say I’m from New York and what happened on 9/11 scared me a lot but it can’t define you or make you so afraid to not live life each day….. gotta LIVE ON
My one question is
From my understanding they got 90% of the traffic off of that bride because THEY knew about the ship incoming. Why didn't they feel the need to somehow communicate to the workers on the bridge about the oncoming ship?
Yes, I have it too. I have anxiety crossing these bridges down here in the south I’ll try to avoid them at all cost.
rural problems 😪
What does this phobia have to do with the bridge breaking?!? And omg lady.. get it together?! Your behind the wheel.. don't drive! Your putting other people's lives in danger.. if you can't handle it.. don't go there
Unless u see a boat that is very big comming dont freak out.
Wow didn't know this phobia existed.
“I’m not going to look.” There’s your higher chance of a car accident
While i dont have this phobia i can understandvwhy a person would feel that way. This bridge collapse im sure doesn't help.
Just devastated 😢
That lady should not be driving.
She definitely shouldn't be driving
I like going over that bridge seeing all the cool ships and other things as well seeing the lights at night you can always see the bouys at nigh lighting up the channels on the shipping lanes

Litteraly have chills watching this
The Mackinac Bridge in Michigan has people that will drive you over... Also the speed limit on that bridge is 45MPH
How long does this bridge will take to be rebuilt?
I’m not fond of bridges either….especially the Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan.
Thank God for those last two vehicles may cross the bridge just in time before it collapsed rest in peace those six workers
Been across the Delaware Memorial Bridge thousands of times throughout my life. Never seen a boat on the water there. Has anyone else seen one on the water there?
I have a friend who has this phobia...she can't cross the bridge herself but need to ask someone else to drive for her instead

“Similar to anxiety,” …
it’s not “similar” to what it IS. It IS what it IS.
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is the longest bridge in the United States. I fear the heck out of that bridge. When I visit Louisiana 😩
She's the reason people get into accidents!
Let's all just ignore the fact that the ship literally steered right into the bridge on purpose.
That’s why I never drive at all. Even tho I’m 20 it’s too stressful and then there’s the aspects of road rage/getting into a car crash to consider
I hate bridges but I keep calm and all my concentration on the road. Panic is the worst thing a person can do in any situation.
Wow. That would be scary.

you're the type of person that would get mad if a woman had "a pair"
The longest bridges seem to all be near the coast lines.
I used to bike over a bridge to get to work daily. After watching this, think imma do that today
I drove 18 wheelers across bridges like this and never experienced fear. But i am afraid of heights so there's that. But driving across a bridge doesn't bother me.
Yes I have that I freak out going over high bridges
Worse to close you eyes while driving especially on a bridge.

I have more bridge phobia now that I know people cover their eyes when driving across!
Seperate lane for scary drivers, don't wanna drive beside them for safety reasons
Why does this thumbnail make it look like she was the one who crashed the ship?
She did
Click bait.
Everyone knows you have to hold up your feet when you cross a bridge. The alternative is hiring a driver or having someone else drive. You still should hold up your feet.
uhm what if youre driving? and also, why?
Lol hold up your feet? Nobody in the right mental state should be driving at all, bridge or street.
Knowing me I will probably force her to look💀
I remember seeing a guy driving folks over a bridge making money and he sure enough was earning way more than i make in a day as a federal employee😂😂
