- New York City was stunned by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake that rattled one of the nation's largest cities. The earthquake's epicenter was in Lebanon, New Jersey, which is about 50 miles west of Manhattan. There are no reports of damage to New York City's infrastructure. However, the danger may not be over. New York Governor Kathy Hochul is warning there may be aftershocks ahead. Inside Edition’s Steven Fabian has more.

I can confirm that as a California Girl. This is pretty normal for us. One time, an earthquake happened while I was in the restroom and I didn’t even notice it until my dad told me.

That hurt to hear. Poor little girl, she's probably going to remember being afraid like that forever. I have memories from age 3, I hope she at least gets to talk it through with someone to better work through being scared like that.
Yeah as a child i experienced an earthquake in southern california and entire buildings shake you off of the ground, it's really scary.
Poor kid her parents haven’t trained her for anything - she’ll probably freak out if she hears the fire alarm go off too. Teach them to think. Play what if. Trains them to keep thinking instead of panicking.
A disturbing thought is that there has been a child that said those exact words, except they did die.

Thanks, I thought it was my pet warden but I thought again after I remembered what happened this morning. All my pets were going crazy 😅, chickens flapping, dogs running and barking, and I looked outside and my mob farm collapsed, it completely destroyed it! I knew that was an earthquake, since they just added that in the recent update, but I guess they added aftershock too!

It's very rare for the East coast to have an earthquake. I understand why New Yorkers overreact a magnitude that is pretty tame in the Pacific.

Some animals can hear sound at a much lower frequency. Thus they can act as sort of an early warning system for earthquake & tsunami. But some seismologists disprove this I guess.

NJ resident here (suburban), felt a small earthquake here this morning. I was playing on my phone when I felt a little bit of shaking, I thought it was just loud noise from a truck outside or something until I heard stuff of ours moving around downstairs. It's the first time in years we felt an earthquake in our area, so it spooked the hell out of me.
Also, about 40 minutes prior to this comment, my Dad said he felt a little more shaking (an aftershock maybe?) but I didn't feel it strangely enough at that time.

That's an unusual spot for an earthquake to occur. I remember that most of the earthquakes occur along plate boundaries.

Just had aftershock in northern New Jersey
I felt it here in Berkshire County in Massachusetts. At first, I thought it was snow tumbling off of the roof, but it seemed stronger than that. It’s unusual to have an earthquake here, so I was surprised.
Everyone from the west coast is like “4.8 is nothing blah blah blah” well yeah, you guys live next to the ring of fire. Keep in mind on the east coast this isn’t a normal occurrence. More so, our buildings and infrastructure isn’t made for that type of event. What’s normal for you, doesn’t mean it is for us. Geez people …

So let me get this straight in your brain. New York is damaged by an earthquake that some people didn’t even feel because a Sign fell down in the past.

It's like everyone forgot about the 2010 quake. That one was worse because it stretched down to DC and cracked the top of the Washington Monument.
From what I heard (this could be wrong) an airport was actually shut down for a brief period to check for possible damages. If that's the case, if a 4.8 magnitude quake does structural damage to an airport, that would be very concerning. In the West Coast, a 4.8 will not sure down an airport.
Anyway, I'm glad everyone is okay! I hope this isn't a, "foreshock," which is an earthquake that is preceeded by an even STRONGER earthquake.
A 4.8 is definitely strong enough to be felt, but not strong enough (at least it shouldn't be) to cause any structural damage.
