  • New York City was stunned by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake that rattled one of the nation's largest cities. The earthquake's epicenter was in Lebanon, New Jersey, which is about 50 miles west of Manhattan. There are no reports of damage to New York City's infrastructure. However, the danger may not be over. New York Governor Kathy Hochul is warning there may be aftershocks ahead. Inside Edition’s Steven Fabian has more.

NJ resident here (suburban), felt a small earthquake here this morning. I was playing on my phone when I felt a little bit of shaking, I thought it was just loud noise from a truck outside or something until I heard stuff of ours moving around downstairs. It's the first time in years we felt an earthquake in our area, so it spooked the hell out of me.

From what I heard (this could be wrong) an airport was actually shut down for a brief period to check for possible damages. If that's the case, if a 4.8 magnitude quake does structural damage to an airport, that would be very concerning. In the West Coast, a 4.8 will not sure down an airport.
Anyway, I'm glad everyone is okay! I hope this isn't a, "foreshock," which is an earthquake that is preceeded by an even STRONGER earthquake.
A 4.8 is definitely strong enough to be felt, but not strong enough (at least it shouldn't be) to cause any structural damage.
