    Zorro is not a fake Zippo. By 'fake' you mean those lighters with the Zippo logo but actually is not made by Zippo. Zorro is a brand of its own, I've been using Zorro for quite some time now and I know that Zorro has it's own design for other lighters.

      I actually switched from Zippo to Zorro completely.
      Sold all my Zippos bought countless Zorro lighters.
      They have countless nice “vintage“ designs and in my opinion their Zippo design is superior than Zippo‘s themselves.
      But you can‘t beat Zippo on flints, wicks, wool and fluid.
      When I buy a new Zorro i instantly change flints wick and wool for Zippo ones.

  • @ogarzabello

    It is NOT a FAKE Zippo because it does NOT pretend to be a Zippo and because the Zippo patent expired a long time ago.

    • @cutlerylover
      @cutlerylover  8 лет назад +26

      its a fake zippo because its a an exact copy of it, patent doesnt have anything to do with it, dont confuse fake with counterfeit, the slight changes keep it from being an exact copy, zippo itself is a copy of the hurricane lighter the only difference was the zippo had a hinge the the hurricane did not...

    One point about the removable wheel is that its easier to fix a jammed or corroded flint. Especially if you don't have a drill handy.

    • @nobody2021
      @nobody2021 2 года назад

      Something that scares me about the idea of putting a drill in the Flint barrel is that you run the risk of going to far with it and damaging either the Flint wheel or the drill bit depending on which one is harder.

    The Zorro feels like a better option to me. I own one entry level Zorro and it is definitely better in quality than the entry level Zippo I own. As far as the Zippo lifelong warranty is concerned, one can buy four Zorro lighters at the price of one Zippo lighter; considering that and the fact that Zippo only replaces the insert/lighter and does not fix them, the three extra Zorro lighters should serve as a sufficient warranty(that is if you will ever need a warranty in the first place). Anyways, all this does not mean anything until you order the cheap flints and wicks from aliexpress as well (Zippo ones are way overpriced). I really feel that hinge mechanism is stupid, it wastes a lot of fuel. They should have kept the design as it is. Great video! enjoyed it.

      It's funny how stuff made in China is characterized as inferior to stuff made in America, but if you didn't know anything about Zippo or zorro and you looked at the two of them, you'd probably assume the zorro was the "genuine" one and the Zippo was the rip off clone

    One thing lacking from (most of) Chinese products is, as you may know, originality. Down to the product name/brand. I mean....wth does “Zorro” have anything to do with Chinese made lighters? I’d gladly rock this lighter if it said “Ding Hao”, “Chang Hong” or “Dong Feng”, which imo would sound more honest. Pretty sure these lighters are of good quality, but the name just puts me off.

    The difference in spark could be due to spring tension rather than the design of the hinge. One fix for old inserts that don't throw good sparks anymore is to lightly stretch the spring. Try stretching a spring on another Zippo to compare.

    _Almost all of my newer Zorro Lift-Arm and WarArmor 915S and 912S now have the Rivet in the Wheel. The wheel is still more aggressive for more spark than the Zippos. As ya know more spark means more frequent flint changes. That's why I put a whole pack of flints under the wadding. xD_

    zippo as company doesn't care about fuel saving because they sell zippo lighter fluid, it's like telling canon way to save printer ink cartridge. while zorro don't sell lighter fluid so they see it as an extra selling point to seal off evaporation or making things slightly tighter, however they make their wheel serviceable because they are selling replacement wheels, who knows maybe they use slightly softer metal for their wheel so you will consume them slightly faster and need to replace them.

    I think the issue with making the Zippo design air-tight is that the naptha fumes would break down most typical o-ring seal materials. There's probably a solution to work around the issue, but maybe it's cost/labor prohibitive to use? I've seen peanut lighters that are air-tight but they're an easier seal to produce, being round.

    • @cutlerylover
      @cutlerylover  8 лет назад

      yes, I have talked with zippo about this, they know they can cut a groove into the insert to add an oring type seal, but they specifically said they know they can improve on the design but wish not to change the nostalgia of the product or its production processes...adding a seal will cost money in production cost and the prices of the lighters not to mention their fuel sales will drop, lol

    Zorro is like the generic Cola. It's not Coke but it's Cola. Also they replicate the looks, design and material of Zippo. The Zorro name even sounds a tiny like Zippo.

    Does Zorro fuel last longer than Zippo?

    • @nobody2021
      @nobody2021 2 года назад

      Zorro has a variation of their lighter that has a rubber seal in the lid, which prevents a huge amount of evaporation over the typical Zippo style that's just open to the air. Zorro also has an insert with a solid metal gasket that fits in the bottom that is sealed with o-rings, and has a chimney cap on top that flips up when you flick the Flint wheel. I don't remember the name of the channel, I think it's Zippo fanatic 77 or something like that, but he's made a couple videos about the zorros and how much better they are than zippos

    I suspect that the giant shower of sparks eats up flints faster and the Zippo sparks are more than enough to ignite the fuel.

    • @nobody2021
      @nobody2021 2 года назад +2

      You can control how much it sparks by changing where your thumb is on the wheel. If it's on the top, that's full travel, if you put tlyour thumb on the side of the wheel then the travel is limited a lot and it will grind on the Flint less.

      _4 months ago I cut all ties with Zippo after 35yrs of buying their products. I spent $68 (it's price is now over $100) on a new Zippo Steam-Punk Armor-Series lighter that was shown on the pics on Amazon to have a brass insert, but mine came with just a regular silver insert. I contacted them and they refused to send me the correct brass insert and they said that I would just have to purchase the brass insert ($15) separately._
      _Sure people can say how ZORRO "copied" Zippo's design, but Zippo has never tried to improve their design in 80+ yrs. ZORRO has made leaps and bounds with the windproof chimney design that Zippo started. ZORRO's lift-arm style lighters hold fluid for months even when not used._
      _It doesn't matter now, I now have 7 Lift-Arm style Zorros and 11 of the ZORRO WarArmor series in the models 912, 912S, 915S. To give ya an example of just how shamefully cheaply made the Zippos are. The regular Zippos are about 60-70g in weight. The Zippo Armor Series are supposed to be built so much more heavy duty, but only weigh about 75g. The ZORRO War Armor series are 145g - 230g in weight. Plus the ZORRO War Armor series are o-ringed and waterproof._
      _Every new Zippo feels like the hinge is half worn out, new. Every ZORRO War Armor hinge is precision machined and has no play at all. The Zippo life time guarantee is great. But the ZORRO lighters (non War-Armor) are only $5 - $10 a piece through Ebuy7. So I can't justify spending 500% - 700% more for a lifetime guarantee._

      Vigilante Driver That’s not the point they were making, it’s not the quality he is referring to. Zippo is very American, and it’s a part of our history. The military used them in WWII, and they are our classic. Any other brand just won’t have that history.

      Zippo's strategy is to never innovate and continue to produce lighters with poorly designed components. When it breaks after enough time, they'll replace it for free. It you look at the Zorros that have milled hinges and the features they have, their strategy seems to be to design it well enough that it probably won't break in the first place.

    If Zippo is so obsessed with keeping it "original", then why did they change the insert design to being slightly slimmer with the ridges on both sides? It makes the insert fit looser and it sucks now. The older form-fitting inserts were so much better. Whatever manager approved of that change should be fired.
