Lyrics
One rule for us, for you another
Do unto yourself as you see fit for your brother
Is that not within your realm of understanding?
A fifty second capacity of mind, too demanding?
Well then poor unfortunate you
There are a myriad of things that you can do
Like pick up a pen and paper, go talk to a friend
The history of the future
No violence or revenge
Your shame is never ending
Just one psychological drama after another
You are guilty and how you ever entered into this life
God only knows the infinite complexities of love
We all have the ability
Our freedom is fragile
We all laugh and we cry don't we?
We all bleed and we smile
Your shame is never ending
Just one psychological drama after another
You are guilty and how you ever entered into this life
God only knows you're not to sacrifice the art of love
Your shame is never ending
Just one psychological drama after another
We are guilty and how we ever entered into this life
God only knows the infinite complexities of love
We are guilty and how we ever entered into this life
God only knows we're not to sacrifice the art of love
We are guilty and how we ever entered into this life
The Lord only knows the infinite complexities of love
You are guilty and how we ever entered into this life
God only knows the ultimate necessity of love.

I don't care what anyone thinks this song was fucking awesome when it was released, it's fucking awesome now, and it will be forever fucking awesome.
I will always remember this when it came out 1989 as I was 16yo. GEORGEOUS!
Ok sweetheart calm down
Erasure made a lot of great songs. This one included
True Dat!
Last day of August 2024 and it’s fucking fucking awesome
Found out today that the chorus shouting "GUILTY" are The Jesus and Mary Chain, who were recording in the studio next door
Oh, wow. Didn't know that.
Great pop trivia, and I speak as a connoisseur.
Didn't know that till I saw you're post love this even more now thanks
Doubt it Where's the proof ?
In their book.
As a 14-year-old boy in his bedroom in suburban Buffalo, New York, USA, this song (on a Toronto "alternative" radio station) spelled out everything for me the first morning that I heard it before school. It was the future; it was fun; it was out-of-this-world goofy with its electronic bleeps and bloops, and it made me so, so happy.
Just yesterday, I bought from a second-hand site the stereo that I had when I first heard this song. My first album in about 26 years? "Wild" by Erasure.
Neighbours
"The Edge"?
It's a great album, isn't it! I can't believe anyone dislikes them! Hope you're well and happy!
CFNY 102.1 The Edge!!!
I never thought I would say this but “they don’t make them like this anymore! “But they truly don’t. I have supported erasure from the get go and nobody has ever come along to replace them for me personally. They have such intelligence in their lyrics beyond anything that comes out today. Their songs are so beautifully put together. Clarke and Bell what a beautiful combination, sending shivers up and down my spine! Long may Erasure reign, they are still selling out concerts and making new music to this day. Vince may have worked with other artists But I think it is fair to say that after 35 years I think probably Andy Bell was the most successful! Thank you for the love and the memories Erasure you will always be in my heart. 🥰
UK always had great musicians since forever, I think Pet Shop Boys are the closest to Erasure in more than one way.
I do believe the young folks of today would call this a - ahem - banger!
In my old fart, 51yr old vernacular I would just say it is perfect pop music. Vince Clarke can really fecking wring a tune out of those 80s/90s synthesizers!!!
There will never be another erasure. Just won't happen. and I'm ok with that.
I think Vince Clark was the George Martin if the 80s except he performed all his own arrangements and we very much have music technology to thank for this, and I am so grateful!
He’s really quite irreplaceable and although I will name Howard Jones and maybe Danny Elfman as contemporaries, I don’t think there’s another artist who truly blended art, arrangements, composition and style the way Vince could. And the choices to work with Alison and then Andy were inspired and sublime.
There’s really no one since who has matched this.
There are ppl who will do music from top to bottom, and it’s impressive, but it doesn’t have what Vince had.
So much of what goes into music is the time it was created in, the technology, the innovation, the life experience, the current events, and ofc that individual’s knowledge and artistry - I don’t think all of these things could really exist in someone else.
And this is probably why The Killers stole that Erasure song, bc they cannot write it on their own ;)
You really described it with the perception I wanted to express .. this song is powerful, intense, spoken in a ways that makes you reclaim the power of yours own self .. anyways cheers
Vince a legit genius from day one.
Yes, Vince is amazing! It doesn't take much to make electronic music, but real musicians (like Vince) take it to a whole new level.
To listen to a song for 28 years and never get bored of it... Now is that a masterpiece or what?
I think the same about Enya´s "Orinoco flow"
Grybop nits one of my favourites.
It was a masterpiece since it was recorded
It's called taste and my brother you gots it.)
There is a lot of spiritual information in this video -- so pay attention 007. Musicians and pop video makers where the modern prophets...1975-2005 ....go and rewatch your old favourites and see what you missed
Ridiculously brilliant song
Erasure save my life from depression
The Jesus and Mary Chain on backing vocals!!!!!!! 😎
Really? Til, right?
❤❤❤❤
And that, kids, is how you do electronic soul.
Just found this song at the age of 40 and can't stop listening. Absolutely brilliant.
This is the song that made me a devoted Erasure fan. So unique, so extravagant, so insanely energetic, so inspiring and inspirational, so crazily operatic, so powerful, so.... wonderfully DRAMATIC!
I am 50 and I still love you like when I was 20 V and A!
Just bought erasure, wild for me technics 1210s. I can play these tunes over and over again and they never make me or many of us tired of hearing them . I had the tape as a child and now I have the vinyl, just bought erasure wild on cd for me mam and sister too. We all love them and will never forget them and they remind us all of our younger days when music was made properly and put together properly. Erasure are totally excellent and I will never stop loving them. Mass respect to the erasure crew, both band members and erasure fans. RESPECT to each and every one of you
In our home, my father had a Boombox Technics SA-C09S (by the way, a magnificent equipment for it's size) and my brother and i, we had the tape of Wild! (and still i have it) and remember when we heard it, it was amazing, it was the first album of Erasure that we hear.
What a masterpiece. Been listening to this song since the original release. Andy Bell and Vince Clarke, an amazing team
My God..that solo in the middle gets me every time!!
Me 2. Bought the LP so long ago now

This was probably their best song. There's a serious piece of art going on here. Turn it up!
It’s good and probably one of their best but it’s hard to chose
It’s up there with a few more .but I respect your view
I agree. Their best song far away.
top volune and not loud enough
Oh L`amour for me, but it's a cover.
I heard this song RECENTLY, and I KNEW it was Obviously written/released in the 1980's, but, I could NOT recognize it as a song I'd known from my childhood. So I pull it up on RUclips, played it like 4 times through, and FINALLY, it clicked in my head... ... ... And BAM, There it is... "God Only Knows" how many times my Mom and I jammed out to this Masterpiece! What a GREAT song!!!!! Love it, love you guys "Erasure"!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the factoid that The Jesus and Mary Chain provided some backing vocals. Cool!
Jesus and Mary Chain providing the "GUILTY" voices.
Wow! Never knew that. Cheers!
Really???
Never knew that either.
It's got that early J.A.M.C vibe to it, hasn't it?
To listen to a song you played over and over again, and still do it in 2022, that's worship

I remember being in prison in 92 and I escaped or ran off (it was an open prison) from Drake Hall to go to an Erasure Concert... Fantastic. Well worth the extra 28 days lol
Jill Jenkins why were you in prison? How dare you break the law?!?!
Ha. Best post ever!
fcking love this comment
best comment ever..priceless
Brilliant!
This is my favourite Erasure song ♥️
The same for me
ERASURE GROWING UP AN AWESOME GROUP THAT WILL BE HEARD FOR CENTURIES
Vince Clarke is so underrated. 3 successful bands...beat that! My favourite music is rock (Kiss, Iron Maiden etc.) but a good song will always be a good song. If it makes you feel something, dance, tap your feet then it works for me😊👍
A banger is a banger, it really is that simple
3 very successful bands would tell me he's not 'so underrated'🤪
Four! What about The Assembly? 😄
Saw Erasure, on their Wild! Tour, at the King's Hall in Belfast in January 1990. This was their first encore song.
Fantastic concert. 👌
'Is that not within your realm of understanding?' - I use that expression so often at work with stupid people. It's great to be a teacher!
Very underrated song. It should be a worldwide hit
They have many of those.
ruclips.net/video/4gwiInUNf_s/видео.html
Ummm how is it, and it w as a hit in 14 countries so you are wrong!!!!
It was!
i'd forgotten how bloody brilliant this song is!
true!
It sure *is* "bloody brilliant" isn't it ???
Drama was one of there best songs the words are amazing.
how bloody brilliant Erasure was/ is
Simply the best !
Absolute genius. Erasure brought us some of the most sublime pop music from the mid eighties and right into the early nineties . Great to hear these classic tracks again .
John Conway love them
Are you saying they stopped the bringing?
From the 80’s until now.
Literally this song brings a smile to my face and makes my feet tap to this day... such a feel good classic!
One of my favourite Erasure songs, probably one of the best bands of the last 30 odd years. Genius
No, Depeche mode is beter
@@marianoalmada8326 He said one of, not exclusively......
Lyrically and musically this is the pinnacle of Erasure.
100%
I totally adore this song. But as no one has mentioned it, I want to say the video is also great. Very simple idea, but so full of depth and symbolism. The arms pointing out of heaven for "guilty" are just priceless.
🥺🥺🥺🥺
This song is absolute quality. One of Vince's best efforts in my opinion with great lyrics and a crunching synth. He totally nailed it with this one. Top marks
amazing tune
Just Perfect Performance well Delivered
This song was in their setlist last Saturday, August 4, 2018, in Houston. The crowd roared and in unison chanted, "GUILTY"! What a rush!!
Was it the low or high pitched "GUILTY"!...?
We've seen them in january last year in Hamburg an it was unbelievable!!! I loved them with 13 and now Im 47!!! They are still so wonderful!
Massively underrated British pop legends. Saw them live several times.
They've sold 28 million records, I wouldn't say that's underated.
I've loved erasure for over 30 years and they have never put out a bad album. That said, I think Wild is my favorite.
I have to press the replay button every time this comes on. One play is never enough.
How can you POSSIBLY give the thumbs down on such an EPIC SONG???
Probably some Katy Perry's fans
Alison moyet fans 😅
WHAT A GEM
ABSOLUTELY MY MOST FAVORITE Erasure masterpiece!!!!
Great band, great tunes. Amazing dance tunes in night club. I lived in Dundee and this was all over the Clubs . Great memories.
Absolute tune
Su carita...su voz...Andy es PRECIOSO e indudablemente TALENTOSO y ni que hablar de CLARKE ! Todo un genio.
Si el era un muñeco 😇😇😇😍
I haven't listened to these guys since I was in college back in the 80's. Brings back a lot of fond memories of being young and having fun.
Hacia tantos años que no veía este video que no recordaba que había un gatito… que belleza. Tremenda canción, buen video..Andy y Vince son los mejores. Celebrando hoy 34 años de Wild..!!!🎉👏👏👏💖💖💖🥰🥰
This is up there with a little respect and chains of love. The most unique sounding band ever to exist.
The genius that is Vince Clarke and Andy Bell on vocals = "Drama" classic 😎✌️.
Masterpiece 🙌🏼
I loved Andy Bell's music all my life. I was born in 1980 didn't know what gay was at that age, but loved Andy Bell's music because he's more than that, a talented musician.
Listening to erasure pop just now ...superb👌
40 odd best hits Andy and Vince keep delivering hits.
I am a lifelong Erasure fan. This is one of my favourite albums. I had no idea that The Jesus and Mary Chain provides the “Guilty!” exclamation. That’s Cool. Also, what an amazing band to see live. Outstanding.
Do unto yourself as you see fit for your brother.
Is that not within your realm of understanding?
A fifty second capacity of mind
Too demanding?
We all laugh and we cry don't we? We all bleed and we smile
35 AÑOS SIN PARAR DE ESCUCHARLA...TEMAZO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MASTERPIECE!!!!💯🔝👏🎹🎹
has to be one of their best songs
absolutly agree.
Yes!!!
caroline smith unreal
I'm guilty... I'm back again listening to this. Amazing lyrics x
I went to see erasure back in 89 at the NEC Birmingham for their wild tour, best night I have had to this day, Thankyou Andy and Vince always.
We all have the ability
Our freedom is fragile
We all laugh and we cry, don't we?
We all bleed and we smile
Your shame is never ending
Just one psychological drama after another
You are guilty, how you ever entered into this life?
God only knows, you're not to sacrifice the art of love
Your shame is never ending
Just one psychological drama after another
We are guilty, how we ever entered into this life?
God only knows, the infinite complexities of love
Thank you for providing the lyrics....so many years of listening and enjoying
I’ve heard this song a million times over the years and never realised the line was OUR FREEDOM IS FRAGILE.....🤪
@@davidlister6721 Yes...precisely because of that I've been playing this almost daily during this semi-lockdown... I don't have a TV and don't listen to commercial radio, but having been out as prescribed, naturally 😉 I've noticed it gradually get busier, with more cars and people as we've entered weeks 4 and 5.... I don't think everyone is convinced any more, and once the blinkers are removed, there's no going back & I don't think they'll get away with it again... sleepy Suffolk market town is not entirely shut, with launderettes, DIY tile shops, health food shops, nevermind 7-11 type stores, supermarkets, Asian cornershop off-licences and garages all open like normal. Thankful to live in UK right now.
God only knows, the infinite complexities of love 🎶❤️
I think this is my favorite Erasure song. I can't stop replaying it.
I’m only seeing the video now many years later after endlessly listening to many of Erasure’s tracks as a young Irish gay teen back in the 80’s in Rural Ireland including this one - Andy Bell was a gorgeous looking blond hottie back then and I would definitely have dated him as I still have a thing for blonds and gingers - at age 53 now, Andy must be pop royalty at this stage, almost like Kylie, George Michael, Boy George or Joan Collins ❤❤❤❤❤❤
One of the best of Erasure!
A True Classic from `Wild ' A Classic Album .
Aaaaah 😢😢😢 Take be back to the 80s and 90s!!
Reminds me of my dad, even though he was straight he loved Erasure songs, he passed two years ago. We weren't close but somehow erasure songs bring us closer ...
That cat was a legend
It's super eerie how this song, both the melody and the lyrics, fits my current state of mind. Love every second of it.
Thank you. This is one of the most important songs of my life.
Nothing like erasure nor will be.... at the best time ever....for having fun!
The moog says it all. Classic tune and sublime vocals magnificent to say the least
LOVE THIS SO MUCH
OMG...how coool is that song...LOVE YOU ERASURE!
Such a great song and good to see the boys highlighting the dangers of single use plastics so early. They weren't just trail blazers of music!
Definitely not trail blazers when it comes to highlighting about plastics etc
OMG. I haven't heard this song for probably 20 years. And still remembered all the words.
Middle Eastern tones to his voice. I love it.
Yes, but here it's clear they were borrowing from Abba and the Beatles 😉
Both these guys geniuses.
Beautiful, the all encompassing power of love, whatever it's form.
one of my fav songs by them. it describes OUR COMMUNITY perfectly!!!
Holy shit !
Vince with hair !!!
lol
The longest haircut recorded in the history of any of his three most succesful pop acts.
❤️❤️❤️Erasure❤️❤️❤️ simple as that! Greatest band period - love this song 👏🏻👏🏻🎶🎶
It`s 2021, having a slack at work....put on this record....yesssss jumping and singing arround and everything feels good. Vince Clark with hair that`s so special. :-)
The absolute best song from a brilliant group that was turning out some of the best synth driven pop music from the 90's
Love this song ❤️
Genius song
I love when the dove lands on Vince's guitar at 3:09, he gives a little smile :D
Almost played this cassette tape to death, thankfully my pencil saved it a few times.
This was one of my first memories of you guys, I was probably 5ish
A voz do Andi Bell é demais..
Vinca and Andy look hot in this video. Thank goodness for Erasure. They made great music in the 80s and continued to save the 90s with all the other shit around. They stayed Synth-Pop
"is that not within your realm of understanding?" - brilliant
Drowning under plastic. Prophetic.
💖💖💖 Erasure xx
zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Classic 80's hit single, Off of the 80's hit album-Wild
Poland Love Erasure !
Vince Clarke = genius with his converse on..
Vince Clark the King of synth yazhoo Depeche mode
Hard to say which one is my favourite there's so much to choose from
Lo mejor de lo mejor
Vince and Andy always have the ability to get your ass off the settee.
Steve Goggins best pop ever goggins lol
With all the emotions that Erasure songs contain and induce, this has to be one of the strongest ones. Hearing this as a high school student when it was released, I just stood still and didn't move. It struck me deep in the heart, I was still getting over my ex-gf who had passed away recently.
The sounds of the intro is how I imagine a beautiful dream can be sounds like...thanks God for this two geniuses!
