If this worked for you, great. I've tried gimmicks, and anything outside of the basics doesn't help. Those basics? A clean car kept in good shape, professionalism in voice/attitude/dress/behavior and a legal/safe but efficient ride.
Tip 1: Drive a great car Tip 2: Drive a clean car inside and out Tip 3: Keep the conversation light, practice conversational skills and dont deep dive too much unless the passenger is receptive Tip 4: Greet the passenger on entry and exit Tip 5: Control your car and conversation. Like before don't deep dive and let the conversation run out of control I have more tips. But those 5 seem like way to go
I don't have have much of a option on tip 1. I drive a 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT but it's my baby and I take very good care of it. But I agree and do the same on all others
I agree. I definitely get a lot of compliments. That tells me I'm doing the right thing, which is everything you listed. I get some tips, but I've seen tips of top rideshare RUclipsrs with way more experience & it's the same. People in Atlanta kinda just don't tip rideshare drivers much. Tips are nice, but I always go for what's "guaranteed" meaning pay for miles, surge, streak, ride challenge. Being nice and lights won't get you a tip. People tip whenever they feel like it.
I say hi. I ask how their day is going. If they give short answers I don't really say much else. If they talk a bit I will ask follow up questions and enjoy the conversation.
1. Clean car 2. Light fragrance 3. Warm greeting 4. Non-invasive conversation if they are up to it 5. Soft background music 6. Tidy appearance 7. Helpful if the rider needs help with bags or opening door
It’s what I do … keep it clean and say hello or hi to the rider . Safe light conversation. When exiting … tell to have a good day . Oh , keep yourself net and smell good but not to much .
I saw an uber guy sit in his car while a lady with a huge backpack and 2 large suitcases struggle to fit them in his trunk for 3-4 minutes twisting them 5 different directions to get them to fit. DUDE, GET OUT OF YOUR CAR AND TRY TO BE HELPFUL.
I have had professionals complaining about neon lights and bumping ass bass music. They like classic rock. Lights for friday or Saturday nights is probably okay. But during the week, nah. Best to stay classic professional.
Dude I’ve been driving for years. I’ve gone out of my way and provided water, gum, candy etc People take everything and still don’t tip. I have brand new cars always keep it ultra clean and as well as make sure car smells great all the time. People will tip the same without all of that. I have no lights. There not there for the experience of lights in a car. Point A to B. I do have to say that it’s all about conversation and that’s still not guaranteed. People also believe that they give you the car and as well as pay for your gas so they don’t tip. It’s ridiculous
Thank you! That's exactly it! There is nothing you can do to encourage tipping. Basic customer service is all that is needed. It is not a driver's job to entertain anyone. Our main priority is to focus on the road and get person(s) to their destination! Whether or not a customer values that service is something they will show by leaving a tip (usually ranges between $1 and $10). Otherwise, they will not tip, because they just see drivers as a form of more convenient public transportation (just a car version of a bus 😒🤷
I have no gimmicks. No treats. No lights or charging cables. I just put my phone on a mount, ask how they're doing, and feel out whether they want to have a conversation or not. If they don't say a word, I just take them to their destination. Introverts really get exhausted talking to people, don't put them in a position where they have to talk. Not everyone likes that. In fact, talking to someone who is very introverted can really hurt your ratings.
The simple truth is most people don't tip and there is nothing you can do about it. Most of the people are young and they don't have the extra money to tip. Its not their fault Lyft take more then 50 percent of the fare.
Bossa Nova jazz, scented vent clips, phone chargers, hand sanitizer in doors, keep car detailed and washed regularly, drive defensively and carefully match slower traffic speed, very light convo only.
Agreed! Take your Car clean and with sanitaizer while You are smelling like a bag of the Mary Jane? And looking like a gardage from empty and dark street? For your fare $7 via Anacostia D.C on RUSH HOURS???
I think nowadays with the prices as high as they are, I think most customers assume the drivers are benefiting. I find tips are down because of this. Plus, I can almost guarantee which riders will and will not tip. People on the lyft platform tend to tip more. Uber did such a disservice to drivers by not initially offering tips.
Yep .. cities are different .. lyft in my area are more ghetto type, and don't tip, unlike uber, which gets more money, better dollar runs, and good tips. But doing both is beneficial ... uber is for money, lyft is better for ride bonuses.
You're doing too much and Uber give you less ... time wasting just pick them up and drop them off where they need to be ... Clean up your car and make it smell good for yourself it's your car as long as how you want it to be, it's a personal thing everyone likes a clean good smelling things ... For riders just say "hello" "welcome" "goodbye". That's it. If you get tips that's fine ..if you don't that's fine.. if you get low ratings that's fine ..it's a hustle so thug it out some are bad some are good. Nobody's perfect you do the best of you.

Looks like this video is dated now, but it popped up on my RUclips feed so I watched it. Here's my take as an Uber and Lyft Black Car driver: People who use Uber X service are cheap. I don't usually do Uber X rides, but I wanted to see how much I could make one week, so I did only Uber X for a week. What I found was regardless of the level of service I give, those who are tippers will tip, even if you do just the bare minimum. If I were an Uber X driver I wouldn't get out of my car to help with bags. I see people tip the bellhop at the hotel for loading their bags into my car, but don't tip me when I unload their bags for them at the airport. In general, people think of drivers as less than. For sweatshop wages I wouldn't move diddley. Also, the moment anyone tells me they will tip me in the app they get an automatic 1-star rating. I found that almost 100% of people who tell you they will tip you in the app, don't end up tipping.
Wtf?!. I have yet to see someone that has any sense talking about this crap. I have 1000+ rides and never had anyone say water, etc. I’m gonna buy lights and other shit when at the end you make 5 bucks an hour driving!?! Ride sharing is basically a pawn shop or payday loan and they are not in business to help you buddy. They take advantage of desperate people hence getting paid by a swipe;). After car cost (rent or own) and gas you make under $10 in the big cities and that’s before tax. FY!!
I noticed that when it's busy lately and they have a lot of bonus zones as soon as you finish a ride and you go offline and pop up in a bonus zone you tend to all of a sudden get this random unhappy customer because my rating was at 5.0 are over 600 rides , then when they send my weekly ride ratings there's nothing in there about any 4.0 ratings or lower they're all 5.0 ratings and no low ratings so something's not right
When I used to deliver cars every now and then they'd send me to get a used car that was all scratched up and I would note all the damage. When I'd drop it off the dealer would say that wasn't there and then I'd proceed to show them the video and pictures. They would file a damage claim anyway. Pretty sure they did it so they wouldn't have to pay me based on my excellent service and a damage claim free reputation. I would have been paid about 15% more annually had I had no damage claims. In 2008 that was about 15,000 more a year. It's beneficial to Uber if you're imperfect on record.
I get nothing but good vibes from my passengers with lights on the floor. I get great tips! I offer water, toostipops, and a killer charging pod in the back. I’ve been told multiple times that I was the best Uber they ever had. 4.97 can’t make everyone happy. I would have a Kerig machine back there if I could.

Took me 3 years and 100s of bullshit false complaints to come up with this solution... Rem to dial 911, put it on speaker, tell them it's on speaker when you do this.... 3 years doing this and virtually no false complaints... They think I'm crazy...but I don't give a damn.
LISTEN TO ME .... NOTHING YOU DO WILL MAKE SOMEONE TIP! Someone is either a tipper or not. Just genuine customer service is sufficient. I'm not there to entertain these clowns who are riders and expect a MOUNTAIN for the price of an exploitive penny. As a matter of fact, when you "BLING OUT" your car, they are more likely to think you are rich and don't need any more of their money, especially those who use it daily. And you probably had a good day. I have those once in a blue moon. I'm pretty sure if you were honest, the amount of tips you see was not consistent each day.
I started doing this a few years ago and people love it!! When Uber/Lyft made it easier to leave comments I got a lot of great comments. Tips increased, and so did ratings. I have a 5.0 on Lyft and 4.98 on Uber. My lights sync to music.
Perceived value? Just my objective opinion, I hardly think lighting up your car like a Christmas tree would be perceived as a value, much less warranting any kind of tip. I would venture to believe most drivers on this forum would feel the same way about your gimmick. Perhaps you should simply improve on the basics such as being friendly, nice, providing a clean non-odorous car, personal hygiene and dress, being conversational without being confrontational, and the most important of all, just knowing when to keep quiet. It wouldn't hurt to provide various phone charging cords.
I tried the candy thing...miniature lollipops and jolly ranchers only to find them half eaten and stuck to the carpet. Now I just give out the mini bottles of water
This is wrong! I do airport runs and several passengers have complained about this lights thing. I always have a container of hi-chews and few take me up but I don't do it for tips. Putting lights is just tacky... I get good ratings for being nice and talking. I don't need a stupid gimmick to help my ratings, which sits 5.00.
Thank you brother I have 400 rides on Lyft n Uber n have 5.00 on both n DD too & all I ever done was myself n be humble n respectful..I’m chilling taking Uber & Lyft customers n keeping them for my self
I went from driving a Toyota Yaris to driving in Audi and I like my Audi and I stay out Way longer because it’s easy to drive and very comfortable. although I am using a little more gas now I am making much more money in Uber comfort rides and Uber premier than I ever made before and my gas mileage is only 20 miles per gallon now and it used to be about 41 and it makes tons more now and drive much more and it is much more enjoyable I highly recommend just upgrading the vehicle to something fancy or maybe something electric and fancy
hi chris۔ peoples are using uber only for cheap ride and little bit confident driver cannot zig zag them۔ other then that nothing can satisfy them wether you put lights or water etc etc they will never give you tips۔ those travellers regularly flying have reduce their flying plus companies are cutting corners on travelling۔ now peoples are using uber n lyft only when they have no other option so they them selves saving money۔ some drivers misbehave with riders so that too effects tips۔ uber surge price that too effects۔ so if anybody wants to give tips it will give but not everyone۔
I drive in a beach resort area and what I do I pick up books with the coupon type books and hand them out to the people I pick up from the airport that way they got a book on where to go and also get their savings. Also I would wear like a beach type shirt peachy hats whatever just have a positive welcoming effect on the tourists that come through our city.
Always judge the person getting in your car to. That always goes over well. Dont be scared to burp and fart either. Passengers love that kind of stuff.
They ride for low rate.. that's all they get from me. Most people can't afford to do rideshare. 98 percent do not tip 2.85 to ride in 35k suv. No lights sorry. Are u for real.. as soon as I pay off bill let them catch city bus..they do not deserve better rideshare is not making big profits for drivers all lies you probably work for Lyft and Uber good for u. Nobody is going to buy anything morr
I've already getting a bunch of compliments on mine, but I've done mine way before j started with ride share, but I've got rocklights, under glow. Ambient lighting kit too for interior
I just bought a car for doing rideshare. Forgot about the “no salvage title” rule. I rented a car though for the last two weeks while I waited for my car. When I registered the rental on the app..all I did was upload pics of insurance and registration..inspection? Where does Uber/Lyft find out if it’s a salvage? If I didn’t have to upload a picture of the title. ***I will find out in a few hours if it’s a salvage or not. But just had to ask this right away.
Registration has the VIN usually. The salvage would be associated with the VIN. lIkely they ran the VIN for info, like a Carfax type thing, and saw the salvage.
Truth is riders have different motives for using Uber. Some of them seek out the experience and look forward to seeking it out again the next time they ride (a lot if those tip). Then there are those that just see it as “getting a lift”. They really don’t want to pay anything for transportation
Do you keep the lights on all the time while ubering or do you just put them on when a passenger gets in the car?.....does anyone object to the lights and ask you to turn them off?
Right...I have a flash light. I say check to make sure you got all your stuff I am swamped and can't drive out here to return whatever..what type lights where is image. What is he trying to say. Maybe he is making up the story
The logo lights are cool but they break easily because people like slamming doors. If you're looking to purchase things once, they are not it, trust me.
As a uber rider dozens of times i dont want candy etc i just wa nt a good safe ride. Ty. I drove for a month before pandemic and did ok without snacks or lights.
I get around 22mpg in the city and with the gas price increases it's more of an expense. That's the car I have and it's paid off so now I've been limiting how often I go out with gas eating a chunk of profit.
People like nice conversations and talking being listened to. I think the 20yrlds and drunk people will enjoy the lights, but they typically dont tip anyway or remember much.😅
I dont u understand how Uber has rental cars to provide for their drivers who don’t have their own vehicle. However, they want the payment upfront I wish Uber had a way where there was a way for me at least that I could rent a car and I wouldn’t have to pay for it until the end of the week. I’m in a bad spot right now. I was using my ex-husband‘s truck because he claimed it would be better for me. And it would be cheaper than renting a car he saw I was making so much money and he started getting jealous and making all kinds of excuses as to why he couldn’t let me use his car anymore so I unfortunately have not been able to work and make money. I also can’t pay for my own rental car. What do you suppose I do do you have any suggestions? I know this is unrelated to your video but I figured I’d take a chance and see if maybe you had any feedback. Thanks for the video. It was very interesting.
When there is a holiday and days like Valentine’s Day, I decorate my car. I also have an octopus for them to play. My ratings increased so did my tips. People know me by now especially at bar close. I drive in a smaller market and I am known as the coolest Uber driver ever by the college kids
Because delivery is NOT better pay - at least for Grubhub and Uber Eats it's not. Can't speak for doordash. I never made $350-$400 a day doing food delivery. But I have several times in 2 months doing rideshare already...
@@Fishin4funout4trout definitely market specific but clearing 350-400 delivering food is more than possible, I do it most weekends. multi-app is the only way though.
Cleanliness, please. It's important. I've gotten drivers with dirty cars and ones that had body order. Lyft has streak bonuses back. Why they killed them during Thanksgiving and Christmas I don't know. $225 in 8 hrs yesterday and $160 today. And it was slow.

And you probably had a good day. I have those once in a blue moon. I'm pretty sure if you were honest, the amount of tips you see was not consistent each day.
I changed my interior lights to super bright LEDS. But e tra lights lighting up the back floor makes sense
I started doing this a few years ago and people love it!! When Uber/Lyft made it easier to leave comments I got a lot of great comments. Tips increased, and so did ratings. I have a 5.0 on Lyft and 4.98 on Uber. My lights sync to music.
What kind of lights?
I have led lights on the back and people love them and I have some collectibles on the dashboard and custom stickers and riders like that
Perceived value? Just my objective opinion, I hardly think lighting up your car like a Christmas tree would be perceived as a value, much less warranting any kind of tip. I would venture to believe most drivers on this forum would feel the same way about your gimmick. Perhaps you should simply improve on the basics such as being friendly, nice, providing a clean non-odorous car, personal hygiene and dress, being conversational without being confrontational, and the most important of all, just knowing when to keep quiet. It wouldn't hurt to provide various phone charging cords.
Should I put a sign on the back of the headrest. Says really really appreciate tips. And give me ideas for other words
My car was dragonballz themed. They loved referencing. And I had car seat covers
Myself. 5.0 on both platforms and no neons or anything.
Good sense of humor and knowing the roads. Keeping my rider out of time consuming traffic.
Subaru Crosstrek ‘17 ltd is the move bro. Killing it on Lyft
hi chris۔ peoples are using uber only for cheap ride and little bit confident driver cannot zig zag them۔ other then that nothing can satisfy them wether you put lights or water etc etc they will never give you tips۔ those travellers regularly flying have reduce their flying plus companies are cutting corners on travelling۔ now peoples are using uber n lyft only when they have no other option so they them selves saving money۔ some drivers misbehave with riders so that too effects tips۔ uber surge price that too effects۔ so if anybody wants to give tips it will give but not everyone۔
I put sheepskin covers on my seats in my 2009 Sienna. The riders love it.
I always tip the drivers who let me drive in peace no talking. And also candy of course.
I 1 Star jerks like you who think you are too good to speak to the driver...
what a great idea. do you think a disco ball would be much? asking for a friend.
😆
I drive in a beach resort area and what I do I pick up books with the coupon type books and hand them out to the people I pick up from the airport that way they got a book on where to go and also get their savings. Also I would wear like a beach type shirt peachy hats whatever just have a positive welcoming effect on the tourists that come through our city.
Thanks so much. I just subscribed. What is the best GPS,separate from my Lyft phone, to not be distracted while driving a passenger? Thanks, Phil
Always judge the person getting in your car to. That always goes over well. Dont be scared to burp and fart either. Passengers love that kind of stuff.
how do you get uber not to steal the tips?'
When the app tells you to finish a trip after waiting 4 minutes do it, ppl always trying to get things for free, plus they hardly tip 😡
I've already getting a bunch of compliments on mine, but I've done mine way before j started with ride share, but I've got rocklights, under glow. Ambient lighting kit too for interior
Been driving for 6 months and have a 5rating the whole time except for a week it was like 4.9 .. still don’t get many tips.
Hi, where is the link to the lights?
I wish you would have put the link for both of those sets of lights.
If a rider doesn’t tip, then that’s their last ride in my car! I give 3 stars so I don’t get them again. ALL DRIVERS NEED TO DO THIS NOW!
How do you rate a passenger after the ride is over? Uber makes me rate them right away.
The logo lights are cool but they break easily because people like slamming doors. If you're looking to purchase things once, they are not it, trust me.
Where's the link to buy the lights?
Hi What is the name’s of the two light you use while driving Uber that help ur ratings?
As a uber rider dozens of times i dont want candy etc i just wa nt a good safe ride. Ty. I drove for a month before pandemic and did ok without snacks or lights.
What’s your fuel efficient cost? Do you spend a lot of money on gas with the jeep?
I get around 22mpg in the city and with the gas price increases it's more of an expense. That's the car I have and it's paid off so now I've been limiting how often I go out with gas eating a chunk of profit.
Yeah I love those logos projectors you're talking about, I have those on my car they looks beautiful, you're totally right👍
I give out candy and water, have never had a mess...
Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste and Thank You for All your efforts to support Peaceful Living 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ 🌷 ☮️ ❤️
Could you Show us a picture of your car's interior?
Love your vídeos
Where is link for the lights.
Who signed and read that 27 page terms n conditions!??
Some cars already come with lights like the Polestar 2!
Please share link for lights 😊
Hmm I have a 5.0 what got there it’s my humor people ion general love to laugh
How many rides?.. Everyone starts at 5.0
@@shannonharris I'm at 452 rides with Uber and left Lyft with just under 2300, both current 5 star standing
@@shannonharris about 12,000 rides
When there is a holiday and days like Valentine’s Day, I decorate my car. I also have an octopus for them to play. My ratings increased so did my tips. People know me by now especially at bar close. I drive in a smaller market and I am known as the coolest Uber driver ever by the college kids
Thanks for sharing!!
Link to the lights?
4.97 need some real work on rating...
This guy is a comedian
I can’t believe people are still doing rideshare when delivery is way way more better pay.
I find I make better tips if I don’t call my passengers morons directly to their faces.
Cleanliness, please. It's important. I've gotten drivers with dirty cars and ones that had body order. I started using Uber during the pandemic and if I can smell a driver or their car, I'm not giving a tip. I always use a mask so if the smells are detectable with a mask on...It's gross. It's always the older guys.
This brings unwanted attention to your car and the fact you a ride share driver, great way to get robbed and or jacked.
Nomore promotions uber sucks 3 hours of driving today only made 53.00 dollars
Lyft has streak bonuses back. Why they killed them during Thanksgiving and Christmas I don't know.
$225 in 8 hrs yesterday and $160 today. And it was slow.
@@michaelwilson2497 dnthanks brother i think I might just give lyft another chance since uber is not taking care of us
@@michaelwilson2497 what city?
@@dannyalvarez7995 I had to. Some issues with navigation map on app. But the streaks help increase earnings. Less tips on Lyft. Hope it works out for you.
Stay safe.
@@brkitdwn Dallas/Ft Worth area.
Disco lights in a car is just ridiculous sorry. Drunk chicks will end up throwing up. You want better tips? Be polite, help with their suitcases, say hello how are you and thank you, have a phone charging cord in the back seat, don’t be a mute rude typical taxi driver.
I just keep the car clean and smelling good 😂😂 and drive smooth and keep my mouth shut lol
Not worth it
The customer now is very cheap. They want the driver tip him.
I have gum most people do not take it but the people that do take my gum they leave the rapper in the back of the car but I would not be giving out dumb of water during covid or after covid it's just not good someone probably will blame you for making them sick LOL

Anyone know why blacks dont tip.
I've received tips as high as $200 cash from blacks...and I am a 6' 2" 240lb redneck driving a luxury SUV.
Sounds annoying
This updront BS
This video is wetarded 🤣 It’s akin to running in place
