In the OG Crow, Shelly was fighting tenant eviction for her apartment building, and Top Dolla sent TBirds crew to kill her. Eric's rebirth was not only about his personal revenge, but also the Crows purpose is to punish those who have committed horrible crimes against good people. This movie misses the point, the heart, and the aesthetic that make the Crow what it is.
Fully agree. In the original the crow was justice when society's justice failed.
Karas...
That's not how it went down in the comics, either. It was a random act of violence like what happened to the writer of the comics finance died from... his car broke down, and a group of street thugs killed and brutalized Shelly.. in real life, his fiance was hit by a drunk driver who didn't stop.
It's a different telling of a comic book. I'm just saying.
Exactly. Also, despite the fact that you only get about two minutes of their love story, the original did a better job making you believe the characters loved each other than this one did in an hour of trying to do the same thing.
It wasn't eviction, she wouldn't sell or leave the building it was hers if I remember correctly.
Why remake great movies in the first place. There is that Lisa Simpson meme that says:
"Instead of remaking great movies, they should remake bad movies that were based on good stories but did not meet expectations."
Hollywood is out of ideas. They can only tread down existing paths.
No, Hollywood is NOT out of ideas. They want money. THAT is why they remake great movies. Nobody cares about the bad ones. But people care about The Crow, and about Friday the 13th, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, RoboCop, The Mummy, etc. They know that people have an attachment to these properties and will likely flock to see a new film. Hollywood is hoping to bank off of audiences' nostalgia. Sometimes it works (if the remake is actually decent) and other times it doesn't. You should actually blame your fellow movie-goers for it. People don't turn out for the original stuff. If you don't believe me, do some research and look at the numbers. MANY original films that were not part of an already established franchise have bombed. Remakes, reboots, and sequels tend to do much better. Hollywood knows this.
Eragon comes to mind, it had potential but overshadowed by other novel adaptation that was Harry Potter
The Running Man was a GREAT FILM... But the book it is based on is FAR BETTER... However, Making an adaptation like the book woudl never work as a movie! It would have to be a big budget TV show... Again, It s a classic that NO ONE SHOULD EVER TRY AND REBOOT!
The only one I can think of that came close was TOTAL RECALL... The Remake is far closer to teh actual story that what Verhoven gave us... And if you have read the OG story, It was pleasing to see... Good? Debateable... I mean, I enjoyed it but I would not go out of my way to re-watch it... Where I will always JUMP to watch the OG film! But as an adaptation Yeah, Its a good adaptation as it actually resembles the actual story!
Hollywood is not out of ideas... They are just after the cheapest way to fast Profits! Making something even remotely original is always a gamble... We as an audience want what we want and they will try and feed us what we want, what they know will get Money flowing fast!
One word: money. It’s much easier to market a remake of a great movie and sell tickets, then it is to do so for a bad movie. That’s probably the main motivation to making remakes at all.
@@user-dc4xw8zp4t But the remake of The Crow just disproves your argument. This also counts for Point Break, The Mummy (2017), The Thing, RoboCop, GhostBuster (famales), The Karate Kid, Oldboy, Conan The Barbarian, Psycho etc.
Brandon Lee’s Crow inspired Heath Ledger’s Joker.
Bill Skarsgard’s Crow is inspired by Jared Leto’s Joker 😂
I hate how dead-on accurate that comparison is... lol
Lol...classic!!

Obviously 😊
He didn't even act physically most of it because of the incident but the old one had all the style and atmosphere that gave it it's uniqueness
@@mr.brightside2665 ACTUALLY!!! WRONG!!! He had finished filming almost all of it!! They were a few days off from finishing. Most of the movie is Brandon.
I think a lot of people didn't know this remake was even a thing until I saw this review pop up lol
true
I wonder how often actors realize mid-production that they’re making hot trash but continue simply because they’re under contract.
It's a job and paycheck so, yep.
I'm sure they laugh all the way to the bank
This one should be called "The Magpie."
Yes, for example Mel Gibson was very vocal during the making of Mad Max 3. There is even the case of American History X, where Edward Norton made his own cut of the movie that they ended up releasing instead of the directors cut.
@@roof1975 Well, its not that simple. No actor wants s flop in their resume.
“Mother is the word for god on the lips and hearts of all children. “
“It can’t rain all the time. “
“Buildings burn, people die, but true love is forever. “
My question is, why don't they remake *BAD* movies that have potential in their concepts? I mean, there is no way a remake of "Catwoman" could be as bad as the original. Clive Barker himself said he wants a remake of "Nightbreed". Or how about "Waterworld"? The idea of "Mad Max on Water" has a lot they could work with.
Instead, they destroy classics like "The Crow"
Money people.
I stand firm that Ghosts of Mars has incredible potential as a story and needs a redo
If they remake bad films, people whine because it's movies that "don't deserve it".
If they remake good films, people whine because it's movies that "shouldn't be redone".
If the OG was good or not, it is irrelevant. Remakes should happen ONLY when they can add something new, or retell it in a different way. That is why actually good remakes can be counted with your fingers.
@@artbargra And if a movie was bad but had a solid concept, than there is something to add. That's the point
@@rumrunner8019 But people will complain, because there are better films out there. It's jus complaining for the sake of it. *That* is the point.
OG Eric wasn't a drug addict. The Crow went after the people pushing drugs and destroying lives. He also tried to help people too, like the little girl. That they made him and Shelley a pair of selfish druggies who barely knew each other in this version shows they fundamentally didn't get it at all. Dumb dumb dumb.
Once I heard they were druggies I decided not to get a ticket.
Right? We’re supposed to believe that a couple of addicts who spend a week in a penthouse getting high, drunk, and going to raves is some pure kind of love. 😂
He was in the comic, but only after he came back.
Eric kills Funboy with heroin syringes and now all of the sudden Eric is a drug addict himself 😂
They have to push drug's constantly to destabilize America even faster
The Simpsons said it best about reboots:
"Actually, this one undoes stuff from the previous film, so IT'S a deboot!"
So disney is a deboot company ? 😁
@@HappyDude1 I hope so.
These recent remakes deserve a boot, alright...
Preferably a boot out the front door.
The studio is about to discover - "It can't rain (money) all the time..."

In the lore, The Crow can be anyone who died tragically enough. So they EASILY could’ve just made a continuation of The Crow set in the same lore/universe. But nope. Hollywood’s gotta disrespect the memory of a dead man to make MONEY!
Brandon Lee himself in an interview when discussing the crow said that he got himself into a mindset of how would a dead man react to suddenly being brought back into a world of pain and suffering and portray a fractured mind and soul,,, no one,,, and I mean no one could have played the part better, and no one ever will.
Who watched the Spoilers section, because you had no intention of seeing this?

How can films be this bad? Is it just a money laundering scheme?
Billions of dollars in narcotics are sold each year. The local car wash ain’t big enough to launder that amount.
Jews laundering money in order to fund evil?
Just another day, anywhere Jews are allowed.

Sometimes. I've been relistening to old How Did This Get Made episodes, and on Simply Irresistable Paul talked about how the producer claimed he was a spy using the movie to smuggle technologies- I forget for which country- to work on the countries nuclear program or something.
I don't know if its true, but I've heard crazier stories that were true so it could be. At the time the guy was still working (I believe one of the movies they produced was The Revenant) but I don't know if they still do now. I haven't looked.

A remake of The Crow is disrespectful as fuck to a dead man who gave his life to the material. It's definitely a subjective opinion, but fuck the executives who ordered this film.
to be fair, they had already crapped on the original with three garbage sequels
There already were 4 other Crow movies and a TV Series that was actually better than any of the Crow movies, save for the original one.

Wishing death on the actors because you don't like the film is just fucking scummy, and you're a dickhead.
But it was a novel first, Brandon Lee didn't own it.
Also, the new one was better and the original is only held to a candle because someone died during filming. Both pretty mid movies, but at least the 2024 one was entertaining

Brandon Lee is turning in his grave
The movie sounds like such a desecration he may actually come back as the crow!
He and his dad are both probably facepalming right now.
Stop using Brandon's name as an excuse. He didn’t die for this movie, it was a tragic event , and the negligence from the prop department to check their fake guns that got him killed. And you don't even know him. He'd probably be encouraging bill, like passing the torch of the character.

The Crow sequels did one thing right, they don't sell themselves as remake or The Crow 2,3,4. If this movie goes that route and give us a different Crow movie it could be ok but instead they want attention.

@@user-zd1oc3pz8s Same. I actually liked City of Angels.
The one with Tara Reid sucked, but at least it had the unintentionally hilarious part of Danny Trejo doing a traditional native dance to bring the crow back, which looked exactly what you think him improvising a traditional native dance would look like.

We liked Brandon Lees character, he was a band guy but worked a bar. Loved his girlfriend, was friends with the girl and was very positive force for the community which led to their deaths. You sympathised with him. In new crow he looks so stupid like a Hot Topic crow, why all the tattooes etc.. Even the villians in the original were unique and interesting even though you want them to die. Also you dont need 40 minutes to build the relationship before she dies, in the Crow you got their relationship in the flashbacks. Loved that he fixed the mother by draining the drugs and saying "Mother is god on the voices of children" or similiar to that. An the mother changes. New crow has no soul. Also the chat between crow and the police man, who he takes the memory of the girlfriends final moments. So tragic the character. A very human and tragic story.
0:01 A Crow reboot would have worked so much better as an animated series. They could really lean into the comics style and could have made something really unique.
Dude I've been saying this for the longest or at least a video game adaptation
That's what I've been thinking about both The Crow and Terminator

Or if they adapted the various comics that have come out since, the most recent (that I'm aware of and one that I personally would love to see) was the one where Holocaust victim comeback to the camp where he died

Bill Skarsgaard was basically just playing Donte from the Ninja Theory Devil May Cry.
Omg, I can't unsee that now...
Yeah, but at least DMC had fun gameplay. This just sucks.
The Crow looks like MGK and Leto's Joker had baby conceived outside a tattoo parlor... or a Hot Topic.
I saw this dumpster fire of a movie… Saw an interview with the director and he was nothing but apathetic and dismissive of the source material and the original movie. He took everything that made the original special and beautiful and took a shit on it just to give us Temu Post Malone.
ROMANCE. There is no Romance in this new film. There was so much in the source material and the 94 movie.
One of my favorite fan theories about the First Crow movie was that the Crow was not Eric but rather, the Crow was the physical embodiment of Shelly's restless spirit who was guiding Eric to not just avenge their murder but also avenge all the lives that were taken by Top Dollar and the TBirds and that it took her a year to find the lost soul of her lover to bring him back. Another favorite theory I came across years ago is that the rain was the literal tears of all the lost souls pouring unto the city which is why it was always wet.
Who would’ve guessed this movie was going to be ass? LOL
Anyone who saw any of the marketing.
It wasn't a guess. It was a fact.

The Crow was the movie that inspired Sting in WCW. Such an insult to remake it.
Sting was already a thing well before The Crow. He aped off of it because it was popular. Later on near the end of his career, he also adopted a Heath Ledger type Joker persona in looks and character.
Stop remaking movies that don't need them. RE-RELEASE THEM IN THEATERS. PEOPLE WILL GO SEE THEM.
Look at Coraline!
Remake some bad movies that had great ideas and need a second chance. That's all.
That's what I do - see plenty of films at the cinema - all re-releases! All the Spidermans at the moment, one per week. And then next week Star Wars begins.
They keep trying to remake films that overachieved. They need to remake films that under achieved.
The original Crow is the exact opposite of a cheesy action flick.

I cannot fucking believe Bill turned down being Joker in Matt Reeves Batman movies for this pile of dog shit.
@treadlightly76 see it for yourself. I'm a huge fan of the original and even own the special edition novel. It's a different retelling of the comic... its not meant to be a brandon lee remake. The director said so himself. It wasn't that bad.. but yes I agree the soundtrack was horrible
@@ericabouchard8786 I was in denial too friend, when the first images were shown. It was awful. I hope the copium wears off soon.
That’s another thing too, pretentious directors saying “oh it’s a RE-TELLING of the critically acclaimed story and film” I hate that. Whenever I hear that someone is remaking something and they try to act like they can improve upon the already amazing story, you can’t. At all. That’s why the original story is there. Look at the soulless Disney “live action” 3D remakes, it’s people thinking they can improve something that’s already agreed as amazing. You cannot do it, I don’t care who you are.

The main reason the X-Men wore leather outfits in the first place was due to how they were hellbent on distancing themselves from the high loads of camp that stunk up the superhero genre. And even then, once the actors complained about how tight the suits were, they gave them a makeover for X-Men 2 which retained the black aesthetic but incorporated more comic-like design elements (notably the big "X" on the chest). And come First Class and especially Days of Future Past, the leather suits were basically no more.
Who actually thought this was a good idea I could see the train wreck a mile away
Sunk cost fallacy.
There was never any hope of making a good Crow movie the moment they chose to reuse the characters of Eric and Shelly
The second Crow movie didn't use Eric and Shelly, and it was a piece of crap.
Well the sequels with other crow characters wasn't good. People are drawn to the Eric and Shelly story because it's the original and what started it
@@ericabouchard8786 true and their love was pure in the first movie
@oreolover9321 what makes love pure? There isn't one couple out there that doesn't fight with their partners, if they tell u that they are lying. I'm just saying it's 2024 not 1994. I will always love the original and I stated my reason why they didn't choose a different crow character. Because each other crow character failed in the movies. People do like the idea of love. It's real. But it's teamwork. It's never perfect. If someone u absolutely loved was being attacked, you would do everything in ur power that u could to protect or avenge them. I didn't mind this 1 because from day 1 they said it's a different retelling of the comics not the original 94 film.
@@ericabouchard8786 I don't think your understanding what I mean of course love is not perfect. What I mean is they were surrounded by horrible people who did horrible things and she was the only good thing in his life. Their love was pure and happy even in the old movie you literally see halo light surrounding them and everything is dark and gritty.
Can't be worse be than The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005) starring Edward Furlong as The Crow.
Yeah, it came on cable for free one night and I saw the list of actors in it. Furlong, Dennis Hopper, the dude that played Angel, Tara Reid, and Tito Ortiz. I was like, "Huh, well, they got some names in it, it can't be too bad." Boy was I wrong. It was the biggest load of crap I think I've ever seen, aside from Attack of the Killer Donuts. They ran a Crow series on cable that was way better than any of the Crow movies that followed the original.
@eduardopena5893 lol @ “the dude that played angel and Tito Ortiz”.
@@Latin-J I wasn't expecting anything out of Tito Ortiz who is almost as well known for his flubs in interviews and promos as he is his MMA record. The guy who played Angel was actually pretty good in that series, but everyone was horrible in that movie.
Some famous Tito Ortiz comments:
Being asked about being 41 and fighting, "I'm a mature old.." "I want to outlive my children, no question, without a doubt."
You take that back. Wicked Prayer is the: _ORIGINAL GANGSTA_
That movie is so bad it's good. It's genuine ridiculous fun. I even bought the novel it's based on and can't wait to read it. Because yes, you read that correctly, wicked prayer started as a novel. This movie though? It's very boring. And the characters are very unlikeable. At least Jimmy Cuervo or whatever was a charming guy turned emo zombie. This is just... unlikeable sad man turns into unlikeable dead man. His only redeeming quality is I like bill skarsgård.
- Shut it off, Lionsgate! SHUT IT OFF!! 😡
- It will stabilize, it's under control!! 👍
1:07..exactly.... there's no need for this film to exist ...the original still stands up today in my opinion ..its 30 yrs exactly since the original film ..they should have just done an anniversary re release in cinemas and I'll bet you it would have made more money than thus stinker of a film
Actually. That would have probably sold as many or more tickets than the original release
Just read on Wikipedia that Lionsgate is going to have movies based on Monopoly (the board game), Naruto, and Rabbids. I can smell the s*** from 12 galaxies from here. I really do think that this film company is trying to purposefully go bankrupt.
Money laundering front
Damn. They really ARE gonna be nothing more than the house that Jigsaw built this year.
Its to bad because Bill scarsgaurd had been making good film choices.
If anything it will hopefully make a younger audience go watch the original.
Joe you gotta let Alex finish a goddamn sentence! 😠
No no
... that's part of the Shtick
The scene where he paints his face some chick next to me in the theatre said “that’s like the joker”… I almost walked out.
Who was this movie made for? Not fans of the original graphic novel. Not fans of the 1994 movie. The producers and director wanted to tell their own story with their own vision. And like a lot of these horrible movies we've seen the past few years, that blew up in the movie studio's face. Just like Madame Web and Borderlands.
Why!! Why was this film remade!! Shitting on the memory of brandon lee ffs 🤦🏻♂️
Stop using Brandon's name as an excuse. He didn’t die for this movie, it was a tragic event , and the negligence from the prop department to check their fake guns that got him killed. And you don't even know him. He'd probably be encouraging bill, like passing the torch of the character.
Ffs who put 50c in the knob.
What? You think I'm saying that because he died!? Er NO. Brandon Lee MADE that character his own! His acting was outstanding, it failed at box office but grew a huge cult following. This new one with Bill was completely unnecessary! The new film is complete GARBAGE!
Did you even watch Joes review! Probably not. 5:33
@@kevinskywalker5539do you know Bill??
Passing the torch...that's kinda funny. More like just 'TORCHING' IT.
Comparing the original to this! 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Give your head a wobble
That bit in the movie where he looks at a crow and says “oh ye, it’s crow’in time”, then starts crowing everywhere, was one of the parts of the movie for me
Time to find a new joke
@@MasonicMafia wheres the joke

Brandon Lee version is canon! This movie was a fail before it even came out. A lot of terrible movies this year.

I think I was one of the millions of people who took one look at the photos that were dropped online last year showing Skarsgard in "crow" makeup and went, "Oh, hell no." This isn't my 90's nostalgia talking. The original really was lightning in a bottle. It was mostly faithful to the comics (go buy the graphic novel), involved the writer, had amazing set design and color palettes, had a great cast... and sadly had Brandon Lee's best performance in anything. Before The Crow, he was mostly cast as side characters or leads in B movies. This was his breakout role. It even tried to include more things from the comics, but ultimately cut them for pacing and time reasons. It was a gem. And don't even get me started on the soundtrack omg. The only good thing to come out of the sequels was one good soundtrack in City of Angels (was that the name? I've tried to put it out of my mind).
This new rendition looks so bad. I wouldn't even watch it if you handed me a free copy and edibles.
He called FKA Twigs a rat and now I can't unsee it as I look through all of her old videos.
What a year for bad movies! Madam Web, Rebel Moon, Rebel Moon Director's Cut, Borderlands, Atlas, The Crow. And we still have Kraven and Venom 3 to look forward to 😂
I'm not going to give either of those movies a chance! I hate those venom movies
@@thedarknate08 It's almost fascinating how Sony keeps producing this crap. It's like they learned nothing from Morbius. But maybe 3 flops in 1 year can make it stop?
Honestly this film was garbage.
Bro, I want Joe to give Alex 1 video where he has %100 control over what he can say and do, MITTS OFF!!! Something tells me that Alex can brutally destroy a garbage movie.
I was right again not to bother with another modern remake
The Crow '94 was peak 90's
This cash in nostalgia reboot trend could only capture the name and never the vibe.
The Crow (the only one) defined a subculture, spawned quotable lines left and right, brought several bands to prominence, established a whole cinematic style that everyone else tried to replicate and the list goes on. It also comes with a tragic yet metal-as-fuck legacy of of Brandon Lee. NONE of that could ever be re-made better.
The first one was just a complete work of art. Felt like I was watching a graphic novel come to life.
Nice. I just finished making my quesadilla.
Not a quesadilla if you used yellow cheese.
@Cuban-Jo lol what is yellow cheese??
@@blkreidMedium cheddar? Lol
Worst thing is...
They were going to make a crow movie with Jason fricken Mamoa as the crow and he looked amazing....
And they gave that up....
for this.
You have to wonder if Hollywood is purposefully trying to make bad movies and go broke.
Mamoa can't act.
That would have been bad, too.
He actually walked away and he was huge fan of the crow
@@eduardopena5893 for the EMO-tional scenes all they have to do is give mamoa a super hard teety twister right before filming a scene.
Overall the quality of entertainment provided by the traditional big studios, big game designers and even well known authors has dropped off a cliff in the last 10 years. A stinker like this used to be a rarity. Now it's the norm.
The high audience score might be explained better by assuming that those people didn't watch the original. Like, this is their introduction to "The Crow" universe and they simply don't know any better. That's a sad thought.
