OJ is such a great method actor. The scene ends and he continues to eat that crayon. Hell, he's so passionate about his character that it moves Joe to eat a crayon himself. Watching OJ is watching a true master at work. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Just finished game and loved my experience of it. Great main character, good combat and amazing parkour. And the story was pretty good.
I’m pretty shocked they were confident enough in the game to offer a free demo. Was the first time a demo ever changed my mind about a sale… So I’ll thank the developers for that at least.
Not to mention that demos are rare these days

Such a shame. The game looks really good at times. But that cloak is really distracting. The dialogue cringeworthy, despite the voice acting being pretty good. And just a barren world, yet beautiful in its make. So close, yet so far.

I wouldn't say that the 'Isekai' genre is a japanese genre per say.
A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs follows John Carter, a Virginian Ex-Civil war soldier who gets transported from a desert cave to the surface of Mars is an early example of this same story type. The other obvious example would be The Wizard of Oz. Both of these stories existed far before the creation of the 'Isekai' genre and there were undoubtedly 100s of lesser known stories that followed a similar structure beforehand.
well, as i understand japan "isekai"s have extra neccesary part of transported hero being worthless in original world and borderline all powerful in a new one, so its at least a subgenre
@@alekzanderor5489 John Carter is all powerful on Mars. Due to Earth's gravity being so much stronger than Mars's, he is able to jump miles of distance and his skin/skeletal structure can resist almost all of the Martian weaponry. He is the edge that allows for the resistance to fight back.
Dorothy immediately killed one of the wicked witches upon her arrival to Oz and within days had slain the second and more powerful witch. She had also been blessed by the Good witch within minutes of landing in Oz. The world (though part of her imagination) kind of bends its knee to her in almost every way.

the reason she doesn't have friends it's because she is rude to people. I thought that in the story she becomes nicer and more polite and she notices that people behave badly towards her because of her own behavior and actions towards them. But no, the story wasn't that good.

It's like they told the those witch ladies to act like a villain in a play. It really gives off an deliberately campy vibe which makes me think there was a miscommunication somewhere.

@@Bodwaizer Having recently finished Chapter 9 after 60 hours of playing the open world.. this is sadly true. I can't even understand what caused them to design the story like this.
The game's had really strange decisions, and multiple jump cuts in the story ("several days later" meme style), and so many control lockouts and other weird slowness.. It's, not bad, but it's just, it doesn't feel great.
It's better than Forswoken, that's for sure, but it still is a very flawed game.
Shocking to think the last GOOD Final Fantasy was on the PS2, released in 2006. Though, I preferred 10, which was also on the PS2, in 2001.
That era of gaming will never come back.

When the loot you find only fits you because no one else wears capes like you and NO ONE ELSE has painted nails. Even plain color ones. The immersion is incredible.

You wanna talk about immersion-breaking?? As someone who reads a lot of webcomics where the Isekai theme is super common, it really bothers me how this character seems to lack any sense of connection towards the world she spends a huge amount of time into. Not only is she super happy-go-lucky about things that she sees for the first time, but the model itself is so expressionless whenever she does.....anything. It makes it so hard to care about anything that happens around you when the protagonist themselves doesn't seem to care.
the capes look weird tho. They dont fit the world/her. Dnno if its her color or overal design but, cape just..weird. Her normal design looks fine

I was wondering about that. Normally, the gear you get in a game even if it's just for your character fits the game's world or has an explanation for why it's unique. They couldn't even be bothered here. Like she should be wearing robes and armor but instead, they went with a cloak and... painted nails? Just dumb worldbuilding right there.

Wow. This was my first experience with the game and every single clip followed the same formula.

The thing that I find superior about Angry Joe reviews, compared to others is that he actually plays through the entire game before coming up with an opinion. It may take longer than others but the quality makes it way more valuable to me.
That’s why his reviews are always actual “reviews”. Like or dislike him (I love AJS) at least he actually fully plays it. Not like most others who get codes early and play the first few hours and rush to get a review out on launch day… that’s basically a preview tbh
I also recommend Mortissimal Gaming, he 100%s games before review and us usually quick about it

Except he doesnt. Even in this review you can see OJ also plays some portions. AJ even leaves the room and doesnt see some of the time OJ plays. The reviews are entertaining but I stoped trusting all of the scores he gives. It's been multiple times that he doesnt pay attention to parts of the game because they are talking amongst themselves. And then he complains about story and gameplay elements that were explained in those exact moments.
But I agree, this game is crap. It was obvious since the trial came out

Amazing how we had an "Anti-Isaki" phase in our 90's movies, where we took a fantasy character from a magical world and put them in a mundane world
That still technically counts as isekai. It doesn't have the be a fantasy world that someone is transported to, just any world that isn't their own.
I used to freaking hate this genre. I wouldn't stop rolling my eyes at the "hilarious" attempts at extracting at least the tiniest giggle out of the audiences by watching the fantasy hero messing around a modern house or downtown. Yeesh.
At least the other trope has something of the wish fulfillment charm to it. It will come out as a heresy, but I'm 100% positive Forspoken will have turned out a cult childhood classic for a good chunk of the 2010 female generation, with this whole edgy appeal. That's the reason I can't bring myself to hating it too much. Kids need this kind of escapism, even if not served in the best form.

Everything I've seen of the dialog from Forspoken has big "how do you do, fellow kids" energy.

Honestly the biggest offenders here are the main character and the dialogue. It’s like the cheesy power rangers dialogue but not charming. It sucks the wonder out of the setting and the MC is just annoying

It was made by the ff15 team, but instead of Japanese writers they hired woke western people to make the script. Its shows big time.
Think I heard they rebooted the story half way through and the main writer couldnt come back for it.

The thing that irritated me about this game is Frey’s constant whining about having to go on a fantasy adventure and being gifted with amazing powers after wishing for exactly something like that to happen.

Yep 100%. If you're doing the fish out of water thing then make the protagonist have the same sense of wonder we do exploring the world. Also, probably an unpopular opinion, but if you're going to do the whole wise cracking A hole thing, make them male. Sorry but it's just the truth. This stuff is always way worse when it's a female protagonist.
It would make more sense if they didn't go so far out of their way to establish her real life sucked absolute ass. What, is she missing her cat? Okay, I get that, but cats fucking die, she was going to lose it eventually.

If I had spent the whole game being talked to the way the main character talked to everyone she met, I think I too would become a world villain.
Also I consider the New York ending of this game to be the cannon ending with how Frey acted through the whole game

23:37 I just love how there's no consequence for leaving an entire world to end. Like I imagine when she's like 80, sitting at home she gonna be “I wonder what happened to those people...eh, who cares” goes back to watching TV. Like what was the point of saving these people and make them think you're gonna save their world when you just leave them with no consequences. I wish a little more thought was put, like maybe after defeating Athia Susurrus is coming for our world and the only chance to defeat him was lost when Frey left back to New York.
Every now and then other Joe just tickles me to death. This was one of those times.
