Dude, it's awesome to see a real workshop solving real problems instead of the surgical rooms with shiny tools. The algorithm got it right this time -- this is what I want.
Real world solutions to real world problems! Thanks for watching!
Vise wrench brass hammer for the win!! Thats neat as heck!
Yup its 3/4" too so it works for the drawbar, the tramming bolts, the vice, and the toolpost on the lathe right next to it. I use the hell out of that thing.
There has been boring head accessories, extension bars etc... to do just what you did for as nearly as long as they have been using milling machines as a boring tool. A company called Chandler built and sold heads that had a long slide with a T-slot adjustable tool position on their heads. But most of their heads were really made for larger, heavier machines than a Bridgeport so don't really apply here.
However what you are doing here is very cool and most interesting is you made it from the stuff you had in the shop. I do quite of bit of boring of welded bores and turning of pins as you have done here with my Bridgeport and I find that taking the time to grind off as many lumps and bumps from the weld before hand as you can makes for a smoother experience and easier on tooling.
As far as ideas for the future, Find a 3" Criterion style boring head or a #2 Bridgeport head they have a bit more mass which will help. Experiment with some different tool grinds, or styles of boring bar. Think old school here, using boring bars that hold square or round tool bits. Cuts are light and do not require big tool bits. Those tool bits can be made from M-42 HSS or brazed and solid carbides if you have the ability grind them to a fine almost polished finish. Use cutting oil or other lubrication to help with surface finish.
In conclusion, If a commercially available solution is not available, unaffordable or simply not economical for the task at hand. I have long maintained the idea that a person who is willing to build their own tools and/or do some experimenting with tool grinds when they have to solve a machining problem will be farther ahead and more successful than one who will not. Well done sir.
I appreciate your thorough and experienced comment! I'm keeping an eye out for a #2 BP boring head. Im going to research the chandler heads for some inspiration too. I appreciate the kind words and thanks for watching!
Nice work. You have done well fixing it.
Thanks 👍
Yet another awesome video! Always impressed with your ingenuity! Keep’em coming!
Thanks! Will do!
Way to think outside the box, as you said wouldn't recommend it but you gotta do what you gotta do in a pinch . Love it bro , keep the beer cans empty and the chips a flying, just be careful about flying the chips In the beer can😂😂
You learn to keep your lips real tight when sipping beer in the shop. Keeps the big chunks out at least
@@spankranchgarage bahahahaha, maybe we need to invent screened lip condoms for those unwanted intrusions 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Solid solution for the problem. I have done the same thing in the past. You can get a larger boring head so you don't need the adapter. Feeds and speeds adjustment with some cutting oil would solve your vibration issue.
Yeah get a 3" head that will take 3/4" bars.
Right on!
That was interesting. The boring adaptor works great, made on the cheap. There's nothing to improve it, really, you've nailed it. Only the indexable tipped tool like you mentioned.
Thank you very much!
It works. Looks good and professional. I think it's a solid win.
Very nice good thinking. Subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
Multiple hole options👍
Very clever i would find a better way to secure it to the boring bar though. One bolt doesnt seem enough
I have an idea for that for the next revision, if I need it again. Thanks for watching!
Sadly, it looks just like something I would do. You just had the balls to put it out in public for all to see. The bottom line was it did the job for what you needed.
Cant be proud of it all but it got the job done. On to the next! Thanks for watching!
Hey bro this is unrelated. But i need some info on my dmax lb7, it is falling on its face under load(alot of pedal/up a bridge or under load) cp3 dying? 250k injectors good and built trans 💪.
Is it making the commanded fuel rail pressure?
That’s cool man the MacGyver of the shop lol what’s that old saying from the red green show if the ladies don’t find you handsome they should find you handy lol
LMAO you are damn right with that saying
dudes will see this and just think "hell yea"
I've got a job for a rotary table... Lol
If your thinking about 2pc z26 wheels I’m all over it 🤩🤩
@@spankranchgarage hell yeah brother, deep dish rear wheels. I've got some aluminum truck 16s saved to use the rear lip on the face of a Z26 wheel. Rotary table cut them both so they pilot nice for welding
