Yes, that hone is a plateau finishing hone, you really need to use a Delapena or Sunnen to get the initial cross hatch, then use that Brush Research Machine hone to take the sharp bits off. Not being rude bud, just an observation. :)

I had a bunch of correct grit ball hones but not one that small.

My new favorite revolutionary... ⭕ 📈
Can you explain to this newb in the market for a new PM lathe why you decided on the 1236 above rhe other models. It certainly is serving you well. I noticed the cast iron stand model with DRO is on backorder atm of course it is, its getting close to decision time for me after a few months .. I can feel it.. Can you tell me roughly how much I should expect to spend on tooling initially? I am still liking the 5c setup

Anything smaller just doesn't have the rigidity or backbone. I wouldn't have gone any smaller then a 1440 but my budget didn't allow. The 1236 has done me very well for sure.

@@Toolmaker001 thanks for the quick reply ...I noticed that pm is offering 1236 with cast Iron stand as option over the steel since rigidity is important that should be the way to go?
I appreciate the help .. I definitely don't want to overshoot my needs for a lathe because I want the mill also. Trying figure out how to get both and there is way to many options and combinations especially when factoring in mull purchase. Great videos. Thanks for sharing and leaving the window open. One more question ... is that you flying the barnstormer upsidedown? lol

I would definitely go with the cast iron over the regular stand. My stand is good but I definitely wish I had more damping and strength.

Would turning the oversized piston down have been an option?

If you don’t like people why do you make videos for people to view? BTW there is a few good people around and thanks for sharing.

Absolutely Zero safety around rotating heavy machinery.

Keep your fingers in your pocket. If you have long hair, put it in a dun. Theres your safety! Isn't this the real machinist that's sick? He's doing a great job, sounds better.
