Nice intro! Indeed it looks like a safe and easy way to lift any car.

I think you had the stands on the wrong sides. The front should carry the heavier side (engine) of the car. If this was a mid/rear-engine car this way would be right.

I have a 2006 Mustang GT with no jack rails and the quickjack is too short to hit both pinch welds on each side. If I lifted it it would contact the side skirts (painted) and ruin them. Do I have to take off the side skirts first or is there some other good way to jack it up?

I understand on the side skirts - I'm really careful to make sure the lift isn't touching them when I set the quickjacks. If the lift points don't reach both pinch welds then the only thing I could think of other than removing the skirts and being sure you have good frame contact would be to get jacking rails (which have other benefits besides making raising the car up a lot easier). If your quickjack won't reach both pinch welds then it also won't reach the suspension components that you can also generally use to jack up the car.

I'd still have to throw some jack stands under it for assurance. I have trust issues😂

Couldn't hurt to use jack stands too, although it does have decent locks that the weight sits on when lifted to prevent it from falling even if you lose hydraulic pressure. I set those and I feel like it's equivalent to jack stands. Thanks for your comment!

I bought it from Costco and it was about $1000 back in 2020. Not sure what they cost now...

Were exactly do you place the blocks or position them so they don't affect the side skirt?

    • @BDRichmondify

You place the blocks on the pinch welds, which are near each wheel and are inside the side skirt so they don't hit them. I have jacking rails so I can place the blocks anywhere on each side and the jacking rails are inside the side skirt as well.

Which jacking rails do you have ?

I have the BMR Super Low Profile chassis jacking rails - www.americanmuscle.com/bmr-super-low-profile-chassis-jacking-rails-red-1517-fastback.html. I like them a lot, they were easy to install because they use factory mounting points and they are low profile so they don't reduce ground clearance on the already low Mustang. And I like the red even though you can't see them unless you're laying on the ground :-)
