John Kay - the only rock star I've ever met in person, and the only rock star I ever WANTED to meet. One super-cool guy, just as humble offstage as he is onstage: "Thank you very much, my man - thank you for coming" in his thick German accent. I'm glad they're still playing large venues; it was a little sad seeing them in a small club with maybe 200 people.
Steppenwolf was the first concert that I ever went to in 1969 when I was 14. I had developed a medical condition that year where the doctor said that I shouldn't be in damp environments until cured. I had a boy scout camp out coming up that I was really looking forward to and all but demanded to go. My parents gave me a choice, go camping or go see Steppenwolf. That wasn't a choice, that was a gift from God. Bet you can't guess my choice. My father was born in 1919 and was never inclined toward enjoyment of the music arts. I think that I watched his face with all of it's contortions more than the show. I got a two for one show that night. On a different note, John Kay escaped Soviet occupied East Germany with his mother in 1948 when he was 4 years old. There are several interviews and at least one documentary here on RUclips about him and / or Steppenwolf and in none of them did he have anything resembling a German accent. He may have been faking it to impress you. Didn't mean to pop your balloon. Sorry.
I never seen John Kay with or without Steppenwold. but this Saturday night Aug. 2nd 2014 in Mountain view Ca. my wife and i get to along with Boston and the Doobie Brothers. just saw Styx tuesday night here in the Valley. we were 2 rows from Tommy Shaw. great week for me. I have been a concert goer since 15 years old now 56. lovin life and everyone keep on Rockin.
well John Kay cancelled because he didnt want to open for either Boston or the Doobie brothers. o well Don Felder stepped up and opened for both of them. played about 5 Eagles tunes. Great show.
Personally I don't think John Kay & Steppenwolf should have to open for anyone, but I'm 62 years old and love them! I think they are better than both Boston & The Doobie Bros. Maybe they should have brought in a lesser known band or Justin Bieber to open! Lol Just joking! But you know what I mean! It was a slap in John Kay's face really. Nice of Felder,he's awesome! Glad it turned out great, hope you get to see John Kay down the road, good luck! Peace
Sweet, I've seen Rush and Grateful Dead in Mountain View. I'm lucky to live so close to a great venue, but unlucky that a lot of the bands I want to see are deceased or not really together anymore
yes John Kay &Stephen wolf are#1 there in a class of there own! I also love Bruce springsteen it's true what is said that he's a real humanitarian and fantastic singer including his band I love the way brings on stage children let's them sing or play guitar I was realy moved when on mother's day concert he brings his mother on stage sings to her and dances with her I.was realy moved by that it realy tells.that he's one of a kind never will be another.
Are you the only one that has Jupiters Child? Is it because we should buy instead of watch on RUclips, but the video and song is always deleted? Just for the record...i started with Steppenwolf 8 tracks, then records, then cassette tapes, then CD and not to mention a few concerts in between, and the tapes and records I gave away to cool.people. Seems I could listen to a song on RUclips, after all, I bought it again and again........Although, I am really not old enough to.remember 8 track ha ha......well anyway, I guess you can keep on rocking... thanks a lot man.
@@lesschoenberger3070 For example, in the Magic Carpet Ride song, he says "They came and took the lamp away" instead of "Someone came and took the lamp away".
Steppenwolf belongs in the Rock and Roll hall of fame !
Classic rock and roll. Awesome song. Memories !!!
I LOVED STEPPENWOLF. JOHN IS A COOL GUY.
John Kay the greatest band leader to walk the face of the Earth😎
I was fortunate enough to be at this show in Louisville. Steppenwolf should be in RRHOF!
another age in music, and for some of us, a life

That's so cool!! This was my music in my teen years and it still sounds great!!

A thick German accent???
Yes he is from Germany of course, and this was 30 years ago - he hardly has an accent anymore. @@RobHollanderMusic
John Kay is one of the nicest people ever..& part of what makes him so attractive/sexy! He's a living legend..& luv his voice, as well 🙂🙂☮☮✌✌💕💕
The greatest band my first love and still my greatest 54yrs latter
Jonn Kay a music rock legend
Kay is right up there with Morrison - the two most iconic rock singers of the 60s. Just awesome.
Joe Mystery ....AGREE ! 👍🏼
beautiful
Ran away from home in 1968 to Seattle, listened to Born to be Wild and GD the Pusher Man all the way, cherish the memories, and Steppenwolf : )))
Did you ever go back home?
The best I ever heard in 1969, still love it to this day. Thank You for posting this song.
Well, here we are again. America is being used and abused and if we thought the 60s were doomed, now it is worse. Thank you for the meaningful music.
Steppenwolf live are fantastic.really liked.specially ''i'm movin' on''
Just good stuff!!!
Great Concert!!!!!
John Kay! Hey-hey-hey!
Love the Hammond B-3 with the Leslie

Я бы назвал их предвестниками тяжёлого рока!
I think he would also have made an awesome country artist.
He did a lot of country stuff on his many solo albums, check it out you'll enjoy it!

They belong in the RRHOF.
Great time, what's not to like.
Maybe they don't like old German dudes?
I know Grace Slick hated them.
Man the first song reminded me of Thin Lizzy.
Second one I could hear ghost trumpet hits.
A brass section would've amped this song to a funky rock.
Oh my comment was for hotrockinjimmy
Exactly true
A fine Canadian boy !
He ist German!
Who is the drummer here
WTF is not to like here?
i'm movin' on listen Rory Gallagher version
OK BOOMERS, SO YOU ARE TIMELESS MUSIC ICONS. Well, we invented Flash Mobs and the KO Game. BOOMERS RULE AND ALL OTHERS DROOL.
Trump 2024. Make America Great Again.
One of the things that I don't like about John Kay: he messes up his lyrics!
What did he mess up here?
@@lesschoenberger3070 For example, in the Magic Carpet Ride song, he says "They came and took the lamp away" instead of "Someone came and took the lamp away".
@@TheRealDustinNunn Ah, good catch!
So?
Nobody did keyboards like Goldie McJohn and his Leslie speaker system.
