Tony Hawk attempts a Building to Building jump in LA

- It took 4 men and 8 hours to build a ramp. Tony Hawk was the first to attempt doing a jump like this. This MTV recording is part of history for both skaters and music videos. Have fun!
This is the kind of liability only a 90s company would sign off on
Hello checkmark
Xighor it isnt a matter of being pussies lmao youre mad conceded homie. its about not having an extremely famous person get seriously fucking injured, or even die, under their supervision and permission. do you even know how this shit works homie? cause the company would almost absolutely just go into the fuckin ground if some shit like that happened. you didnt even think before commenting fool 🥱

So true!!!
Did he do it in the rain tho? Nah tbh in the rain what Tony did is much more impressive
@@ShutUpBubi You're entitled to your opinion. However I think most people agree JW's Ollie is one of the craziest things ever done on a skateboard. For a top level vert skater like Tony, this gap isn't really that big, he cleared it by miles first try and could have gone further I'm sure.. JWs gap was flat, dusty and dirty, and also not far off the record for farthest Ollie on flat ever lol. I don't believe it was quite 16ft, but insane none the less.
@@Jasonlimitless very true. also the tower weren’t quite flat; slightly rounded over the top which makes it even harder
Imagine if Tony couldn’t stop so he rolled off the second building.
I only realize u have 69 likes
😂😂😂😂
pretty sure theres a net there
Actually there was no chance of that happening. There's a retaining wall that would have stopped him.
talk about what you know please or shut your mouth
Imagine fallin all the way down to your dead and reading “SENSELESS” on the ground
Tony: Puts on helmet
Me: *Don't think that's offering much protection for a 65 ft drop*
Worst case scenario would be falling to the alley, but one bad scenario could be a poor landing on the other building, and the helmet would help in that situation
It would still be a lot better than not having one. Plus one woman survived after falling 33,000ft out of an airplane, and one injury she had WAS a fractured skull, so it probably is a good idea. Your legs and ribs and so on breaking sucks, but they can heal. Fucking up your skull is extremely sketchy comparatively. Even with minor skull fractures they'll probably still staple your head together
It keeps the head together which is nice
What if he fell off the second ramp?
And he didn't even tighten the chin strap
Love how the hosts were playing it up hard and Tony downplays it, I know how to do a jump ramp...
Love Tony Hawk just one of those icons of society who'll be remembered forever.
yeah it was kinda obvious that tony was gonna nail it tho. i doubt he wouldve done it for a short mtv segment if he had any doubt. the gut was just hyping it up to make it more exciting for the teens watching

He is wearing a helmet like if he falls it is gonna protect him
If he falls while rolling away he can still get hurt
If he fell he would’ve had his whole life to figure out if the helmet would’ve protected him or not
Cant believe I just read this comment lmaooo
Probably a net like 15 feet below him and the helmet is so his head doesn’t go too far back and break his neck if he lands flat on his back or head first
He wears the helmet mostly just to show that wearing a helmet is cool and should be done, because tons of skaters don’t wear protective gear because they say it doesn’t look cool/hinder their performance. He’s being a good role model
But can Tony jump the homeless?
:))))))))))) i hope that more people get the joke
Nah only cartman can jump the homeless

OMG - I've been looking for this for 20 years! I WAS THERE THAT DAY. I worked for the company that owned the buildings and I worked with MTV to get this all done.
This jump is way more dangerous than Jeremy Wray's water tower ollie. I think Jeremy's ollie was kind of surreal, that's why so remarkable, but personally I would risk the water tower ollie instead of the jump on this video.
Why always put everything against everything lol both are fucking insane there's no better or worse...
You got it waaaaaaaaaaay fucked up, youd have to parkour up to the tower to even do the ollie, flat foot long jump across to get a shot at it, then ollie like 16 feet under your own power, and if you land it you have to stop before going off the otherside, and then get down, and then run from cops, not to derail what tony did but its two way different ballgames
@@douglas5097 alright, but yeah in terms of just trying it and probably not dying that ramp is really helpful but you still have to boost over it to make the jump, anyway im sure the building drop is higher but those water towers are still up there though.
