Crystal Tear: Holy Shrouding Cracked Tear, Faith Knot Crystal Tear
I used many of the incantations listed, but when it came to weapons, I used a Zweihander with Golden Land, The Golden Order Greatsword as it was great for knocking enemies down, the Envoy Longhorn to take down giant bosses (Killed Placidusax is about 15 seconds)

Holy is perfectly capable of beating the game and easily. The fact that it is less optimal, especially for the last few bosses, isn't a big deal. Less optimal still gets the job done. You'd think with how many different holy weapons/builds have been used to beat the game, people would realize this.
The only time I would advise against holy would be if you were having extreme trouble on the last bosses. In that case, you might want to switch, but if people can beat the game at level 1, you can beat it with holy damage.

@@BirdWithAKnife345Answering the question, “why use holy damage over other options?”
It’s a freaking game, and it’s supposed to be fun. Why use it? Well, because you can, for whatever reason. Do you like the weapon styles? Like the incantation animations? Cosplay, roleplay, whatever. The game gives so many options, and not everyone wants to run around spamming Rivers of Blood, Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike or Comet Azur

    • @Cindoreye
      @Cindoreye 3 месяца назад +4

@BirdWithAKnife345 No one is saying that holy is fine simply because you can beat the game with it. They are saying its perceived weakness is exaggerated. Personally, I think holy should be buffed as it IS the weakest damage type, but that doesn't mean it is impossible to play the game with holy damage. People do not need to be scared of using holy weapons or spells.
Holy's reputation makes players afraid to try it. That is the major issue. Play what you enjoy, of course. If you want to try it, do so, and if you don't like it, switch to something else. While there are limited respecs, this isn't DS1. You can swap a fair bit.
I planned on a dex build for my first playthrough and ended up int/dex. My second was strength/faith, and that worked out. My third, I was finally going to be pure dex and ended up arcane. My most recent build has been int/faith using many of the golden order holy spells. We can hope holy gets some buffs, but even so, nearly everything is viable.

  • @nadaburner
    @nadaburner 3 месяца назад +6

Little off topic BUT: I very recently did a faith only build and it was one of the most fun runs I've ever had in this game. I had Cipher Pata and Coded Sword incase I ran out of FP but I almost never ran out.
Swapping to fire, lightning, physical, holy incantations and magic when I used a mimic tear helmet with the blue dragon spells made the build insanely versatile for just leveling 1 damage stat. Coded sword is also amazing against enemies that block constantly.
Being able to buff stack and debuff enemies was also amazing cause I end up just tanking and spamming dragonmaw on enemies like Godfrey who does only physical so black flame protection, golden vow and greyoll's roar made dragonmaw spam safe to do for a minute.
Now more on topic: The holy weapons are also fantastic as the clips here showed, bubble greathammer, Elden Beast sword, Coded sword, cleanrot knight scythe so on and you can still use things like Blasphemous blade which is a whole other monster.
Siluria's tree is straight up my favorite weapon in the game just for the ash of war alone.
You don't need to restrict yourself to a single damage type and Faith builds are incredibly strong/versatile.
8:40 I do agree with damage typings being weird. Lightning affinity weapons doesn't have a faith counterpart but fire does with strength for some reason which is new to fromsoft. I guess they wanted dex and str to have at least 1 elemental damage type because weapons by default will be more restrictive compared to equipping incants/spells which allows for great customization. They gave every damage stat at least 2 damage types which I'll list:
Str has physical and fire, Dex has physical and lightning, Faith has fire and holy, int has only magic but cold is status damage, arcane has physical and status damage. My guess is they didn't want to give faith a 3rd damage stat when it comes to weapon affinities.
As for int/fth holy incantations they could "fix" it by making them ignore half or close to half of an enemy's holy negation stat. They seems like high investment but no real gain.

The main thing I think that stands out is what the game considers "Weak" and "Resistant". I think 40% absorption is essentially considered the "baseline" for most bosses. 20% absorption is "weak" (the game says Night's cavalry is weak to lightning, they have 20% lightning absorption), and 80% is "Resistant"
Holy is an incredibly well designed and fleshed out damage type with more support than any dark souls series miracle build other than like, lightning spears in ds1 and ds2. The problem always just boils down to the big heavy hitter endgame bosses having that 80% absorption

Dark damage was also kinda like that as more of a lore damage type, it was designed to kill gods instead. I think fire should have been faith/int instead.

Imo what would’ve solved this issue for me would be:
1.) Faith gets a Lightning Art Infusion as a counterpart to the Dex version and the Str Fire one. Faith gets 3 damage type infusions; since you can only use one at a time, I don’t think this would be game breaking, and would let you theme your weapon to your incantations. Lightning themed weapons like the Cragblade and Grasnax would have hybrid scaling between Dex and Faith for the Lightning. I like the Str Fire infusion, but limiting an element to a physical stat like Dex, especially when it has so many ties to faith in the lore, feels silly.
2.) Int/Faith gets a Ghostflame infusion, that deals Magic and Frostbite at better damage scaling than the Cold infusion, and the various Ghostflame/Death weapons (Helphen’s Steeple, Death’s Poker, etc) would scale with Faith/Int like the spells do, giving it a niche. Ghostflame and Blackflame could also deal Dark damage as it’s own distinct elemental type
3.) Int gets a Gravity Infusion that deals pure Physical damage, to compensate for Faith getting 3 elemental damage types
4.) Arc’s occult infusion would get Dark damage instead of pure physical, but would still scale status effects like now
5.) Frost Status buildup would scale with Int on both Cold and Magic infusions.
6.) Any weapon without a unique ash of war (Serpentbone Blade, the various Int/Faith throwaway Straight Swords and other weapons) would be infusible regardless of element or status effect, just as the Fire Knight/Black Steel weapons and the Serpent Fang weapons can be infused.

  • @Someone-fv3iv
    @Someone-fv3iv 3 месяца назад

☀️ Here is my take ☀️
Hopefully holy damage is a topic of one of their future patch notes. I feel like you have to work harder to make pure holy damage be “strong”, whereas other damage types(fire, lightning, magic, etc) are just better in general.
As far as pure holy weapons go, the fact that the golden order great sword isn’t one of the best great swords in the game is…kinda counter intuitive. It’s literally Radagon’s sword, and you should feel like a damn God whenever you use it. The fact that it weighs 10 pounds is so strange(it is made of light), and the wind up time for the ash of war still needs to be reduced. I also think that it needs an A tier scaling in faith(when fully upgraded). Also, the sacred relic sword should have *at least* an A tier scaling in faith(when fully upgraded) as well, and should consume less stamina whenever you use the AOW…
The Golden Order incants are mostly fine, imo. I do think, however, that triple rings of light should either A) not cost as much fp as it does right now(since it only deals a little bit more dmg than rings of light, which costs 3 fp to cast) or B) have the damage just outright buffed to make it align with its 23 fp cost. Radagons rings of light could also receive a slight buff to the dmg(maybe 15-20%), but I think that it’s good where it is at. It is obviously not an incant that you would use against a large enemy, but fully charging it can be outright monstrous against anything Renalla sized or smaller(that can have its poise/stance broken easily). Black Blade is also a great “melee incantation ” option for dishing out damage to enemies that are Renalla sized or smaller, and the destined death aspect makes it all the more useful(I wouldn’t use it at range, though, since the black knife has the same effect, just less fp). Elden Stars is, along with Scarlet Aeonia, one of the most disappointing incantations in the entire game(if not the most). I understand the balancing problems between pvp and pve(especially with an incant that has lock on projectiles that are distracting and hard to dodge), but there is NO REASON an incantation that cost TWO memory spots and holds a LEGENDARY STATUS should be as worthless as it is in pve. It literally just needs a huge ass damage buff(in pve).
I think holy damage shines best in the ashes of war/skills department. The bubbles are obviously OP, and the sacrid relic sword is the epitome of point, click, and obliterate(most of the time). The halo scythe just has a ring of light that deals more impact dmg and some poise dmg, but deals very good, consistent dmg. Unblockable blade is also pretty good(not amazing, of course, but not awful). Malikeths black blade also has a pretty great AOW, but it is mostly because of the destined death.
If you read all of that, I applaud you 💛 🤭

I absolutely hate Dark Souls 2, but the build options were definitely my fav part of the game, especially the dark damage type. I've had fun playing a holy melee build in this game (minus the last 4 bosses), and was glad the DLC was nicer toward my build as well. But I agree, holy really is all over the place in this game. Hopefully for Elden Ring 2 or whatever they have a better idea on what they want to do with this archetype.

You got the whole concept wrong. Ever seen someone going to church, kneels before the king and prays "Please My Lord Slay My Enemies"? No!
Ephesians 4:31-32: “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

I always took that Holy was just the weakest because if you are building Faith, then you're getting a lot of utility, buffs or heals incantations, and you'd just have the scaling good for it compared to not using it, but could also just use flame/lightning butalso the holy incantations are just not really fun to use and I agree I miss Dark.
Lightning being Dex is fine, Fire being Str or Fth is fine, Magic/cold being Int obvious. Holy should have been Fth and Int, and I would have kept Dark or maybe the Black flames to be the Dark replacement instead.

No one or no opinion is keeping me away from my Wave of Gold main character. It's not just about farming the poor frogs, it's about the fashion souls, using "Radagon's body", spam that beautiful Ash that trivializes even the Haligtree dungeon, and still packs a heavy punch on crowds. Get holy, boys, get sacred! Be not afraid!

There's a lot that I've seen the community fight over but the absolute dumbest topic has been holy damage.
How you can look at the state of enemy and boss holy damage resistances vs weaknesses and think that this is acceptable as a design decision is beyond me. Not a case of, "well everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I'm incapable of accepting that," no I sincerely don't see an argument for this being good.
    Lore? There's nothing but reaching.
I'm made out of flesh and bone but if you were to punch me in the nose, I'd bleed.
If I'm a Demigod, and use holy damage, why exactly would that mean I'm resistant to it?
If something was made, or enveloped by a holy aura, sure, that's intuitive that they would be resistant to it.
Godfrey's piss ghost would make sense to be highly holy resistant, but why would the man himself be? He's... just a guy?
Gameplay balancing reason for it to be ass? Nope. The strongest status conditions are locked behind INT and ARC builds, with one exception being Dragon Ice Lightning being a faith incant.
Me me no understand why game dev make holy bad me me want to be paladin

Honestly, I don't really care about what people say. What I care about is how hard I smashed the faces of my enemies when I decided to try out the Crucible Weapons, Golden Order Greatsword, Sacred Relic Sword and Marika's Hammer.
Maliketh's 80% Holy resistente didn't seem to save him from being drilled by my tree. Ever since I got Marika's Hammer I'm yet to find something who doesn't bend the knee to it, with that massive AoE and stance damage while throwing humanoids around like volley balls, and Astel certainly didn't seem to appreciate the guaranteed headshot from the shockwave. Sacred Relic also hasn't failed to erase any room from existence either, and I remember the poor Misbegotten Crusader's tears when he tried over and over again to get up, only to fall flat on the floor repeatedly with no resistance. As for Golden Order Greatsword, those damage numbers are just illegal, and I almost pity the poor bastards who live in death when I see a gigantic skeleton summon getting one shot and the strongest of Death Rite Birds look like it's made of hot butter, not to mention the humans who are all pathetically useless against the near instant shockwave followed by an undodgeable slash.
They can say "endgame bosses are resistant" all they want, but when damage is decent even on them and everything else is pulverized by it, I say it's great.
One thing people sadly seem to ignore a lot is that while Holy is bad as a damage type, several of the holy weapons are incredibly powerful and that often more than makes up for it. Those weapons I just listed all have incredible utility when it comes to range, stagger, ease to hit, etc. And their damage numbers are can be high enough that they sometimes do comparable damage to many other weapons even with a worse element.
It's just like how blunt is unquestionably a horrible damage type in Bloodborne (I'd even say it's straight up worse than Holy, since holy at least excelled against Those Who Live in Death, including the very difficult Death Birds, while blunt is pretty much bad against everything), but Ludwig's Holy Blade is still considered the most powerful weapon in the game by many, despite doing blunt damage.

Honestly I understand the math, but don't understand all the rage against Holy. When I beat the base game in 2022 and cleared all steam achievements, was with a Faith build with focus on holy damage, which for me is too one of the most visually stunning abilities in the game.
For NG+, or DLC probably it's gonna be tougher though.

I don’t see how or why they would continue to make things resistant to holy especially with all the awesome late game holy weapons. This video makes me really sad. I feel a little better with the comment if you like it, then use it. It’s not a big deal. Regardless of this video, I feel like they have to make bosses that aren’t necessarily weak to holy but just not resistant to it. The holy weapons look amazing, there are a ton of them, and they are late game. How can they lead us into a dlc where these weapons are still bad. I’m going into the dlc with a strength faith build primarily built around holy and I’m just praying it’s going to be awesome.

This game has had at least 10 patches going by the numbering scheme. And people want to ride FromSoftware for their amazingly crafted games? Why has there been no serious major balance look over? SO many underpowerwed weapons and abilities it's not even funny. If the DLC doesn't bring anything like a look-over of the base game's items/incantations/spells, then you can basically expect a repeat of the base game, a few patches to settle egregious edge cases, and a few overpowered weapons that make everything else irrelevant. I know technological optimization is their weakest forte (their games all run terrible upon release and even after) - but man, can they get their numbers balancing fixed, goodness it's so bad.

  • @KKKuma

I think all the "holy" spell are great. Most of those incantation are buff which makes you much stronger. The rings spells are goat in pvp if you play caster. It is much harder to deal with the rings and those are more efficient than rains of star of ruins. Holy dmg weapon are split dmg so it is not that big of a deal fighting bosses. Even vs end game boss with proper build I don't think I have that much issue. I may not be the best player but I don't think it took me 30 minutes fighting elden beast in my holy dmg build run. Some streamers also did something like Marika hammer or Sacred Relic only run or Incantation only run and they said that it was easier than expected as well.
I don't have issue with fire being scaled with faith only to be honest.
But again, I don't think there is a particular "holy" build, only full faith build or faith-int build (which is my build in pvp) or str-faith or dex-faith build which are like all the build possible. And you have the benefits of having all the OP buff/debuff then pick your damage type depend on enemies: fire, lightning, holy or even physic (split scale weapon) so no need to fixated on something.

ive been using holy for the last 50 hours on my latest character. and it wasnt even planned, i just really wanted to try out cleanrot spear, halo scythe, and finally fully beat the game with tree spear. i cycle between a ton of weapons. the holy damage is just kind of a byproduct of that decision. and guess what id be bored af and probably not playing the game anymore if i decided to avoid these things cuz "holy" damage bad. worse case scenario u swap over to a fire damage setup. thats what i did for a boss here and there. just switch out talisman and physik and focus on fire infusion or an incantation then quickly swap back.

Occult damage should have been the new dark-scaling with int and faith.
Occult type spells already have int fth requirements. And the lore implications are there as well with the implication that Golden Order Incantations and Occult Spells are one in the same-similar to how Int/fth worked with Dark and Fire.
Instead, occult scales with arcane? Fckn Y? There's already like 4 different elements that scale with arcane for God's sake.
