    I have learned more about carburetors in your videos than I have by working on them in the last 35 years.

    Hi Randy, thank you for sharing all your years of experience. I've been watching and learning down here in Australia. I'm running a pair of 1850s on a offenhauser low cross ram brake. I had a devil of a time with one carb continually running rich and finally found the culprit. The secondary metering plate was clean, all new gaskets but the secondary boosters leaked gas. It was simple of course, the little tin plate was slightly warped away from the metering plate allowing gas up under the lower edge allowing gas to bypass the drilled jets. Just thought this might help someone else. The engine is now pulling like a freight train, nice clean plugs all round. Keep up the great work Sir.

    Sitting here we're building a 4160 and doubling up the gaskets sure didn't seem right, thank you guys! This helped

    On an upcoming video, you should explain how a 3 circuit carburetor works, and why some carbs use them.

      We ran a 3 circuit dominator on our drag car. I will get ahold of another one asap and make a video on it

    Thank you! Great video. I think the thin plate is in case you have a powervalve cavity on secondary side. At least that's how Summit racing describes it. Thanks again.

    That’s why these carbs cannot be primed using the overflow tubes after a long winter storage, the fuel will just exit over the fuel bowl and mess up your intake manifold …. I use the fuel level cover to add fuel directly into the fuel bowl. Help save the engine starter….

    Great video! Glad I came across your channel!! Question, I have a couple old holley 1616's and want to put them on a 302 dual quad set up. Can I change them from the 4150 style metering block to the 4160 style metering plate fairly easy? I know most people want to go the other way(4160 to 4150) but need some space on the intake. Thanks!! Oh yeah and subscribed!!

      Brian i never ran across a list 1616, I had to Google it lol, I take it you need more clearance between carbs, I'm not familiar with the 1616 but looks alot like an 1850, I don't think you'll have any problem changing to a plate, I think you will need the older square plate that covers the idle circuit and the 4160 gasket, also make sure use the nitrophil float or the plastic one they are shorter than the brass. The brass float will usually hit the plate. Hey let me know how it turns out. I love natural hp, especially tunnel rams. Good luck brother!

    Is it possible to make a Holley three barrel 3916 into a mechanical secondary with metering blocks front and rear? I also want to thank you for your videos I’ve watched them over and over I watch them every day

      Rich thanks for watching, I thought hard about it I believe anything is possible but creating a accelerator pump shot would take some doing . Years ago I saw a accel. pump nozzle with extension tubes designed into it that fed the primaries and secondaries, can't remember who made them but had to drill holes in the throat of the carb to allow the tubes to be inserted through to the secondaries, now that being said there still the linkage to be modified. I have never modified a 950 three barrel , I believe it would be to much trouble and really don't know how it would perform and there could be some safety factors with the linkage just really don't know. Rich I do believe you gave me a headache just kidding take care and always be safe.

    Thankyou for the video i learned a lot.
    Can you tell me if it is possible to put center hung float bowls form a 4150 on a 1850 ?

    • @holleycarbshowtosadvice40y90
      @holleycarbshowtosadvice40y90  2 года назад +1

      Yes you sure can , you have to use a nitrophil float in the secondaries it's shorter than a brass float , the brass float will make contact with the rear metering plate and make it flood , also I believe you can use the plastic float never tried it but believe it will work. Hope this helps.

    I love your stuff. I always ran Holley's. I had a friend tell me to go buy an Edelbrock AVS2 650 cfm that it was the cats meow. I just rebuilt a Chevy 350 stock with a mild cam. I tried it on the engine start up stand and really didn't like the throttle response. I will try it when it is in the car and see what happens soon. I have a Holley 4150 4778-6 700 cfm double pumper with 4 corner idle, would this be too much carb for my motor? Just to try it out per say?

    Hi Randy. You know the blue gasket you use for behind the metering plate? Im rebuilding a 4160 like this and i dont have that gasket i only have a load of the ones that go on the other side with the big shield shaped hole in the middle. Can i just make 2 holes for the legs of the metering plate to go through it and use it? All other holes are in same position and obviously im still using the black gasket aswell for the back of the metering plate. Top vids btw, watchin from over in England. AL

      Alex the the metering plate gasket is different and can't be swaped if you lay your metering plate on reg. 4150 metering block gasket you'll see it uncovers the passages on the metering plate, some shops sell that 4160 gasket separate. Hope this helps.
