SOME Liverpool fans. Gakpo is a an excellent player, he just happens to be our 5th choice forward.
As in the video, he just has a bit of a weird profile. Tall but not great in the air, big but not strong, good top speed but no acceleration. He’s a good finisher, gets on the end of chances well but struggles in the build up. Often either winning a free kick, which is fine but often stops an attack or does the predictable cut in and shoot.
It’s harsh for people to say he needs to turn it around, his form isn’t that bad. Just the natural ebb and flow of things for a forward.

I'll admit I'm one of those fans. But I've never not backed or felt sorry for a player before. Gakpo is the first player, supporting the club since '98, that I've genuinely despised. I'd like to be proven wrong, but he makes absolutely zero effort if things aren't going his way, reminds me of a united player. I can forgive mistakes, lack of talent. Can't forgive players that throw their arms in the air and walk about while the rest of the team is putting a shift in. I really want him gone. I think he's eredevise level.

Gakpo was a player Liverpool needed at the time, with Nunez still adjusting. Now that Nunez is the 9, Gakpo doesn’t give the tenacity and discipline that Diaz has. I think many are forgetting that this is either the debut season for some players for Liverpool, debut season in the EPL or adjusting to rotating frequently instead of playing week in, week out (assuming the player isn't injured, of course). Most of us didn't expect Liverpool to be this monstrous with the midfield rebuild and young talent coming in (having won one trophy already) and hell, I'd go as far as to say most of us didn't expect some or all the newer players to come in like a freight train and run over opponents (Szobo, Macca, Endo, Bradley, etc) and yet here we are so even though I too get frustrated with some of them making the wrong decision before turning the ball over to the opponents, a part of me expects it because again, many of them were not expected to hit Halaand or Salah levels in their debut seasons.
And side note, beating Chelsea in the Caraboa final was heavily celebrated because honestly, most of us Liverpool fans didn't expect them to win it (harsh, I know but it's true) and if Liverpool had lost, most of us and neutral fans would've expected Chelsea to win anyway. As for United in the FA cup, this one hurts more because we were expected to win (even though it's Old Trafford) because we had the better run of form and United have been as topsy turvy as a drunk stripper during happy hour this season and even their own fans had low expectations going in so when they won it, their reaction was understandable because they were the underdogs going in and I'm not going to use the Europa league match on the Thursday before as an excuse (while United, much like Chelsea with the Caraboa cup final) had a week to rest and prepare) because I don't understand why Klopp played many of the first team he had available in the Europa match because you could see some of them was clearly fatigued in the United game. We had Sparta beaten already 5 - 1 (there's no way in hell they could have scored 4 or 5 unanswered goals at Anfield, even with a younger side like Lewis, Clark, Danns, maybe Adrian in goal) so why did Klopp field or bring on the starters just before the trip to Old Trafford?
Anyway, I'm not mad about the FA cup result and I'm not mad about missing out on the quadruple because I prioritized the league and Europa even before Klopp's announcement.... I'm just disappointed

He cannot win a header from a lobbed pass, despite being 6"4 in height, contrast to Endo whos 5"10 and has the headers win for a DM this season and not to forget his agility has been in the mud, constantly loses the ball and poor decision making in the passing department. I think the current system, moving towards a traditional 9 with Nuñez rather than a false 9 like Bobby, doesn't help Gakpo because he isn't really a tricky winger like Diaz, nor is he an out-and-out striker. But he is clearly a good enough player, albeit his lack of minutes limits how comfortable he looks on the pitch sometimes.
I personally think he couldn't be more perfect for Alonso's current Leverkusen tactic in one of the 'free 10s'. Given the freedom to roam in the space betweent the oppositions defence and midfield, as well as drifting wide, could suit him perfectly and return him to being a focal point like he was at PSV due to his clever movement and liking to use his first touch on the turn. At the same time, I think it would be to Diaz' detriment as more of a direct winger he may not suit having to play more in central areas.
Either way, one game where he came on as a sub and didn't do much at a time the whole team was poor is not going to be my yard stick for whether he has a long future at the club or not.

    Nah.
Gakpo is struggling because he tendency to drop and ask fit the ball to feet is but a good fit because the midfield, especially with Macca in the 8, is able to get between the lines. So he's ending up in the spaces that the 8s want.
The creativity in mid needs an outlet, so penetrating runs are more valuable and productive than playing in the hole. This is true both in the wings and through the middle in the current version of the Liverpool attack.

Gakpo would be better than diaz on the left diaz is a good dribbler but not finisher

  • @youngmetrojokeman6172

Liverpool fans online r just hyperbolic - he will come good . I would sell Diaz while his value is silly and give gakpo the left where he has a higher ceiling. Then reinvest. The same people who will call this crazy will slate Diaz when he eventually has a stretch of over dribbling and poor decision making. I wouldn’t sell Diaz in an ideal world but it could be lucrative

So the response to defend gakpo is hate diaz? Diaz might not be the best in decision making but he is WAY BETTER THAN GAKPO, NO DISCUSSION.

Gakpo is being despised by Liverpool fans cos he's lazy and lacks intensity
Endo is not the best passer of the ball or best clean ball winning DM like Paulinha, but cos of his work rate, running tireless for 90 mins he is loved by Liverpool fans

Nunez took more flak than this guy. All Gakpo goals are far post tap ins.
