He refers to them in multiple ways in Korean throughout the video ("our" kids, the kids, etc.), all of which end up being translated as "my kids" because it'd be unnatural to translate them in any other way.
Yeah he pretty much is saying "our kids" which in Korean, if you say "my cat" it sounds weird, you'd say "our cat" as in the cat in "our" house. In fact you'd say "our house" too. I can't explain why but it makes more sense to me that way too even though my mother speaks a different Asian language. So like he's not directly saying my kids, but rather "the kids we've got at home."

How come no one is talking about the fact that the first child doesn’t even know where his mother and sisters are and that his father is deceased... I can’t even imagine having this life style, so when someone takes you in and gives you a home, wow just wow.
Honestly, a lot of family members of NK refugees get beaten, tortured, or killed if their loved ones escape or attempt to. If you commit a crime, not only will your family and friends possibly get punished and killed, but three generations under you as well. Any crime or wrongdoing your great grandparent committed would instantly make you worth trash in NK, the minute you're born. That's because the Kim's believe in a 3 generational hierarchy like that. So if you commit a wrongdoing and have children, even their children will be looked down upon. You also have to have money, at least around $5000 (4,500,260 NK Won), to get help being smuggled out of the country. The majority of North Koreans are starving, literally most of them starve, and if they don't turn to illegal means of making money (which has a high risk of being put in a slave labor, torture concentration camp in itself) they will most likely die from starvation. So it is hard to even get this high amount of money to bribe. The money doesn't even cover the high emotional costs of abuse, sexual abuse, starvation, exploitation and other things that people put up with in order to escape. Most people get separated from family members trying to escape, if by capture, getting split up, or death. And that doesn't even cover daily horrors of North Korea like what goes on in concentration camps and abuse. And the hardships and the starvation of living there. All of that just covers trying to escape.

I made a scene in the restaurant and I wanted to give him money and I begged my parents but they said no and these people needed some food. I took my moms wallet and took a pound Ik that was wrong but I was desperate my mother shouted at me and I’ll never ever forget the look in the mans eyes liked he wanted help and I couldn’t help him. I honestly think that people in general who go against their parent's beliefs and follow their own is a super power in itself. A lot of people don't stand up for themselves when it comes to their parents, but the people who do good in the world and don't care about the negative, they're the people I respect more than anyone. This warms my heart so much! Even though I'm not ready to have kidsyet, I really want to adopt kids someday! Too many children and teens out there needing a home and family to make them feel wanted and loved.
Yes!! You always see people out there adopting babies and young children because they’re “worried about not forming a bond” with older kids, but thats total bs!! Adopting older kids is a lot better in my opinion cuz that’s probably when they need the most stability in their life. Babies are also so much work lol
yesss me too for me it's lowkey upsetting that everyone always wants multiple kids all of their own when there are millions that don't have a family anymore.. like why is it not normal to help our children all around the world, it's so sickening.
Yes!! I also feel the same way as you. These kinds of documentaries actually led me to decide that I want to adopt. I initially was just so adamant not to have kids. My thoughts during that time was that I just couldn't bring children into this kind of world that we live in, then I started watching videos of this nature and I thought, I should adopt because these children have no choice but to live in such a cruel world. Even if I can only help one child, to him/her it would always be the moment where his/her life changed.
The foster father is giving us hope that there is still love and humanity in this crazy world. I have great respect for him and give a big thanks to Chef Linus!💜💜💜

Luckily and thankfully many of north koreans adapt to the south, live hard, and some do really well, but all live with a feelings of guilt that their families members are left behind who need to pay off the defectors choice as being thrown to concentration camps or as simple as losing jobs and being watched by authorities the whole life.
Unfortunately most people tend to see anyone leaving their own country and coming to another as “taking their tax dollars” and such for the social programs that help those people. It seems weird to outsiders but I imagine we all have something like that where we’re from
@K-dramaKpop Lover yeah., because killing themselves if got caught by north korean is the nicer things to do because if not. Their whole family will be in trouble. Or worst they where died in prison camp. Really unfortunate people.
They are refugees. They are treated the way all refugees are treated, with added side of suspicion.

@@ainderrojo6933 I never said it is. I was responding to the video, not making a retirement plan. It made emphasis of how much it is costing one man to rescue several children. My point is, I'm sure they recognize his many sacrifices, and will eventually be in a position to return some of that generosity.
I'm sorry I didn't realize some people would be too thick skulled to understand that without my having to include more detail. I love how he says "MY kids" and not "the kids". Idk why it made me emotional but it made me happy that he see them as his own and not just kids he's raising.
@I'MDEprEssEdaNDqUIrkY He also does say our kids and my kids. Theres no direct translation for certain sayings but he did pretty much say the korean version of my kids.

Hart 3192 I will when I’m older I want to work really hard and buy houses for people on the streets and homeless kids. Or people from other countries who have come here who need help. I’m 14 and go to Kenya sometimes where there are a lot of homeless children who are thrown out for disabilities and live on the streets rough. It opened my eyes when I was out with my parents and a few homeless came and my dad is kinda greedy sometimes and I don’t wanna be rude but he didn’t like giving out money to anyone but his mother and siblings so my mother pays for everything for us kids I don’t blame him tho. I remember the feeling in my heart i felt so empty and horrible and didn’t eat for the rest of the day. Some people are horrible
He didn't even eat anything at the end, choosing to leave it all for his kids instead 😭😭...what a guy!!!

I honestly think that people in general who go against their parent's beliefs and follow their own is a super power in itself. A lot of people don't stand up for themselves when it comes to their parents, but the people who do good in the world and don't care about the negative, they're the people I respect more than anyone. Differences bring out the good in the world.

I'm crying because this family is so beautiful and wholesome.
This man is an angel! He cares so much and sticks up for his kids. Damn proud papa bear. I wish you health and good fortune, because you deserve it. And so much more!
This warms my heart so much! Even though I'm not ready to have kidsyet, I really want to adopt kids someday! Too many children and teens out there needing a home and family to make them feel wanted and loved.
Nomad77 Exactly and I hope more people are open to adoption as there are many kids that deserve a loving home.
Same. I want to adopt all of my kids.
*This is so heartbreaking that the boy don't know where his mother and his sister are.*
