In Planet Robobot the Smash Ability was actually accessible in secret HAL rooms in some stages so it was kind of a cool little easter egg and I also believe after that you could freely choose to obtain it in the Copy Ability Room. Another use of amiibos next to obtaining their respective copy abilities was healing yourself in the Boss Rush mode, which is what I personally used them for. You may call it cheating, and so does Nintendo because if you beat it using amiibos it will mark that run with a little amiibo stamp as a remark that you didn't beat it the intended way.

One of my favorite 3DS amiibo interactions is an obscure one: if you own Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 on 3DS & the Shovel Knight amiibo, you can scan it in and play a short but very sweet boss battle against him, with special remixed music and a redrawn Shovel Knight using exactly the same amount of animation frames as he did in the original game! He also grants special items upon defeat, the Shovel Ring for Gunvolt (granting him a free double jump & air dash) and the Code of Shovelry for Copen (makes him bounce off the ground when using his "reload crush"). The reason Shovel Knight appears in only this release is as a special "thank you" to Yacht Club Games from Inti Creates for helping them publish Gunvolt 2 and the later released Striker Pack on the 3DS. Shovel Knight does not appear in any future releases of Gunvolt 2 sadly however, not even the Switch port. Seriously check the Gunvolt series out, they're my favorite 2D platformers ever released, and some of the most underrated indie games that deserve more love.
I love how accurate Scotts rant on how smash amiibos targeted every video game fan. The only amiibo I ever bought was the Lucas one, thinking my one purchase would push out Mother 3 outside japan....
My favorite, and quite possibly one of the only, implementation of Amiibo that I used was Ace Combat Assault Horizon + on 3DS, letting you unlock a bunch of Nintendo themed planes that were completely OP.
Did you know that Metroid Prime Federation Force got updated to support the two amiibo that came ith Samus Returns months before that game was even announced?
That's pretty cool honestly. Do you happen to know if people discovered the new amiibo functionality in Federation Force before Samus Returns was announced, or was it seemingly only discovered afterwards? It would've been funny if Nintendo themselves basically leaked Samus Returns in some way on accident before anyone knew it existed.

Animal Crossing New Leaf might be my favorite Amiibo functionality. First of all, you can use the Amiibo Cards from Happy Home Designer and Amiibo Festival to summon any Animal Crossing character to your town. So like, if you have a favorite Animal Crossing friend, you can guarantee that they live with you. Second of all, you can use the Legend of Zelda series Amiibos to unlock Legend of Zelda characters, in Animal Crossing. Like, you can get Ganon and Epona and Wolf Link and Medley in your town, that is fun. New Leaf launched with a Play Coin functionality (remember Play Coins?) where you could play a lottery for Nintendo-themed merchandise like the Master Sword and an Arwing and a Metroid and a Virtual Boy and other cool stuff, so expanding that to have Nintendo characters cameo was awesome. Obviously the NES games from Animal Crossing on the GameCube will never make a comeback because of the Virtual Console (same reason why Super Smash Bros Brawl could only include short snippets of the Masterpieces), but I liked how Animal Crossing on 3DS had Nintendo themed items. Heck, there was even an in-game Wii U and 3DS which allowed you to play Puzzle League and Desert Island Escape (the only good game in Amiibo Festival). Man, I miss Animal Crossing: New Leaf. New Horizons added a lot to the series with crafting mechanics and food and being able to place furniture anywhere outdoors, but New Leaf had GracieGrace and Club KK (or whatever KK Slider's nightclub was called) and Puzzle League. That was really fun too...
Almost got this back when it came out because I was just getting into Smash amiibo collecting, but then I decided to just get the New 3DS XL to resolve that little inconvenience.
From what I'm aware of. There are 3 separate ways to get it 1: in a secret room in 1-4 2: The 2nd Hal room in 6-1 3: the copy ability test room (unlocked after finishing story mode)
Me a couple of years ago: “Hmm. I don’t know if this amiibo is worth the money but I guess I’ll try it out.” Me 50 amiibo later: “Maybe just one more.”
12:39 now as you mentioned it. I checked my unused NFC Reader that sits here since, forever, and i was surprised that the LED can show the Color red for low Battery Life xD
I had an OG 3DS and my friend an OG 2DS. He got the NFC reader. Every time I went to his house I took advantage of his reader, and he took advantage of my amiibo.

I remember my parents had to spend a lot for the gold mega man amiibo & I didn’t know I needed a NFC wireless receiver. Needless to say my parents weren’t happy about it
I remember buying this on the same day my high school's art class went to go see Trolls in theatres for a trip. Buying this puck was the most exciting part of that trip.
the main two reasons i got a new 3ds XL amiibo support and the c stick nipple made it so i could pay resident evil and smash bros a lot more comfortably with camera control or easier aerial attacks
Even though I was never a fan of Amiibo, that NFC reader would’ve been great if they Nintendo actually put more functionality in their games, which Skylanders did really well on consoles.
I actually really appreciated that Nintendo produced this thing for us old 3DS users and I actually want to get my hands on one sooner or later especially since I have Samus Returns and all the Metroid amiibo but without that stand I cannot unlock all the stuff put behind them. I also agree that Planet Robobot has one of the neatest usages of amiibo and it is so bad that they didn't reuse it for the Kirby Switch games.
Amiibo cockfights were some of the most fun I had in this era of gaming. A lot of great nights drinking and seeing how good or how busted you could train somebody.
The Mario vs Donkey Kong Amiibo game is free but you have to have the right Amiibo to unlock parts of it. I like that game because i already had amiibo and it made me want another game in the frachise to play. (I didn't have very much money so I couldn't buy tipping stars sadly but I wanted it.)
I remember getting the nfc reader and the three pack the day it came out and being so excited to be able to use amiibo since I hadn’t bought a Wii U yet and I didn’t use after the that weekend until the welcome amiibo update came out and used it a ton to get all sorts of villagers to come over
I have a 3DS NFC reader that I brought separated. I used it a lot with Kirby Planet Robobot, Yoshi's Woolly World, Mini Mario & Friends... But my favorite use was in Code Name Steam, in unlocking the Fire Emblem characters in that game.
Five Below is what started my want to collect Amiibo. While I did get SSM Samus and SM Daisy around the time that the Super Mario line became available, I got those because they both are my favorite Nintendo characters. I was good with just having those two. Then one day I saw a Kirby and Waddle Dee from the Kirby line as well as Toad, Koopa Troopa, Goomba, and King Boo from the Super Mario line. I bought Kirby, left the store, and a day or two after something clicked in my head: I gotta get more Amiibo. Darn you Five Below!
The Amiibo I got were because I wanted figures, but I still used the functionality when applicable. I had Kirby (favorite character/Smash main), Chibi Robo (GOAT of charm), Splatoon Squid (cute), and Game & Watch (such an odd Amiibo)
So you can get the Smash Bros. ability in Kirby Planet Robobot without the amiibo, but it's by far the most convenient way to get it, as it's mostly hidden in secret rooms and for completion bonuses. This and the Kirby Kirby series amiibo are basically fast tracks to the Smash Bros and UFO abilities, although I believe in the Arena side modes you are correct, with Smash Bros. and UFO only being accessible in those modes with their amiibo.
I really wanted a Marth amiibo that I thought I could train to fight like me. After I don't even remember how many hours I just accepted he'll never be able to down attack someone in midair while they're already off the stage.
The Kirby Series Amiibo gives you the UFO Ability. This is not possible to get in the normal Game(only after already 100% completing it, which makes it useless at the end). The Smash Ability is well hidden in some Levels. And it was first in Amazing Mirror, since there is Master Hand as a Mini Boss (Nightmare in Dream Land is a Remake of the Original NES Game)
i actually got this when i was a teenager so i could scan ONE amiibo into animal crossing and it wasn’t even a villager that could move to your town. i tried to play with wisp a little with it and i think those two times were the last time i touched it
4:19 I’ll have you know that I care very much Mr. Stash 😂 Also, one of my friends got me the NFC reader for one of my birthdays and I’ve actually used it a good amount of times! As someone who never got a New 2/3DS XL, it’s a great work around!
Speaking of Nintendo squeezing out battery life, the battery in the Wii U pro controller was actually insane (unlike the game pad itself even if you bought the extended battery pack you could install)
I feel like that negative feeling of content being "locked" behind buying amiibo was compounded A TON on the fact that amiibo in general were hard to find. Like if I could just go to any Walmart and buy a figure to give me a power up or whatever I would feel much better about it.
Shoutouts to those nice Gamestop employees. Those stores don't deserve them. I wish them the best

Can we just appreciate how sexy the original 3ds was? like after that they were just plain smooth bubbles
It looks like crafted dr yoshi is responding to all of Scott’s hand movements n shit. Love to see it
Another great watch dankpods!
Video actually starts at 8:35 thanks Scott ❤

The NFC Reader Puck is the Tech Equivalent of an Alofs Attachment
Never forget the Fox Amiibo that placed top 3 at a large Smash tournament
I will be forever surprised that they made the wiiu game pad capable to read NFC since day 1 but did nothing with it for 2 years.
there was that bad pokemon rumble game that had weak as hell NFC figures
hockey puck for pink gold peach!
“Unfortunately a product became more accessible to non-scalpers.”
Waiting for Nintendo to make the Fort Wario amiibo
Codename steam was a really fun use for the fire emblem amiibo
was not prepared for bowser giving stone
the smash bros copy ability can also be found in hidden doors on certain levels or in the copy ability room that opens after beating the final boss
i actually got this when i was a teenager so i could scan ONE amiibo into animal crossing and it wasn’t even a villager that could move to your town. i tried to play with wisp a little with it and i think those two times were the last time i touched it

I’ll have you know that I care very much Mr. Stash 😂
Also, one of my friends got me the NFC reader for one of my birthdays and I’ve actually used it a good amount of times! As someone who never got a New 2/3DS XL, it’s a great work around!
I didn’t get into amiibos until 2020 and I’m still hooked lol
I only own a single amiibo, the skyward sword one
Same, had to get Joker
which skyward sword one (there are two (the 30th anniversary one and the hd one))
@@VeeFerns the Zelda and loftwing one that released alongside skyward sword HD

@@parappahat8745 I do want to get some Splatoon ones
when the world is reduced to ash... all that will remain are the nintendo 3ds nfc reader/writers...
I loved the Animal crossing new leaf amibo support. I love cjoosing my own villagers 😊
A few levels in Kirby: Planet Robobot have the Smash Bros. Power
Great reader!
Like if I could just go to any Walmart and buy a figure to give me a power up or whatever I would feel much better about it.
i love you scott
I think the reason for the initial scarcity of amiiboes wasn't a Nintendo issue, but rather a strike issue with shipping.
Seeing a video this early with no views is a very good feeling
The Inkling Amiibo is FDA approved
