The main reason why all of the Galar names don't have stuff like city or town in their names is because UK place names tend to have suffixes in them that work kinda the same. The -hurst sufffix, for example, means 'wooded hill' and and -bury means 'fort', and there's a lot more of these. So they usually do imply either a landmark that the settlement was built on or what the location's historical purpose was. And that was your useless trivia for the day :)
Here in Canada, we also don't have that many with City or Town as part of the name. There are exceptions (Quebec City, for example), and probably more than I know, but majority of the ones I know aren't like that. I don't personally know the origins of ones like Brampton or Toronto or Hamilton (a mix of indigenous words taken for names, prefixes and suffixes with often forgotten meanings, and named after people, I believe), but not a ton of more obvious ones. Even the cities I know in the US aren't all like that, though that's probably more because I don't know as many of them and some might, I just never hear it properly said (like people always just saying New York even when they mean New York City). Honestly always thought it more odd to hear them as part of the names in Pokemon, like Saffron City, though I didn't notice it as much in some gens, like Hoenn having Petalburg and Rustboro
There are regional differences with these as well. Traditionally in Scotland place names would be formatted 'mains of x' meaning basically like 'farm of x'. In Northern England however it was formatted the other way around, so 'x mains'. The lines are blurred since the 1800's though as 'new towns' have not followed the traditions of place name creation. I live in an area in Scotland called Newmains and there are places in Northern England that have been named 'mains of x' so the old rules have been kinda ripped up. Further to this predominantly English people who wanted to increase the value of their properties changed the place names from 'mains' to 'manor' in order to 'gentrify' the area. We think gentrification is a new thing but people have always tried to present themselves as higher class than they actually are. If you live in a place called 'x manor' it's probably historically just been dwellings set up near a large farmhouse or farmland area. 'X-Burghs' are traditionally Scottish and northern English as well as 'x-touns or tons', you've got loads of Scots place names like 'meikle' 'hiech' and 'nether'. For one of the most diverse countries on earth with the history of our regions what we got in terms of representation in sword in shield was 'freezington'. In my (probably biased) view they missed out big time not delving into Scottish culture for sword and shield. The 'two heroes' could have represented both the two great auld nations and our desire to come together for the greater good but there's always been an undertone of angst between the two. What we got was doggos that live in the woods and absolutely no actual history beyond the story of this event that happened, then you catch them and box them forever.

An interesting guide for sure and surprising to see a physical one existing around Sword and Shield's release. It kept track of many of the sidequests, suggested numerous Pokémon (which I loved because it resulted in you having quite a unique and varied team) and even chose to use Gloria for the screenshots (usually these official guides default to the male trainer). An entertaining playthrough with a unique team and many funny quips and commentary.
Absolutely! I actually have a sun and moon guidebook that’s ridiculously detailed, pretty sure it has a section on competitive breeding and all the stuff like that. I have no clue if that’s the one that’ll be used but it would be cool if it was.
Interesting video! I think the "head west for Hammerlocke" bit was assuming you were running there from Spikemuth, rather than flying to the Hammerlocke Pokécenter (which will instead necessitate you running east afterward).
the part you were saying it was telling you to head west instead of east, it's because you flew to the pokemon center. If you followed the exact route in game, you WOULD be going west
I think I saw a minor error in the guidebook (the bit that we see, anyway). Leon’s team only has Seismitoad when you chose Grookey. Leon replaces this with Mr. Rime if you chose Scorbunny and with Rhyperior if you chose Sobble. Fun trivia: each of these Pokémon are ones the starter you chose can counter with their STAB moves!
I haven't ever seen the Sword and Shield strategy guide before! Physical strategy guides have become so uncommon, so I'm really glad this game got one! :D I do love the Pokémon suggestions in this guide. The author really seems to love Electric types. Let's give it 400 percent! xD

Regardless, great video man! I can't wait for the next one!
The first time I played Pokemon Shield my curiosity told me where the evolutionary stones are without looking it up, so you evolving Growlithe wouldn't be cheating.
Rose is practically bedes adopted kid- Pretty much from what I got from playing the games- Until he disowns him and all- But bede found a gawd damn stature And is never noticed for it- Like, im glad he destroyed the old ass fridge art That’s literally red flowers and the sword and shield- Like, why wasn’t bede ever recognized for uncovering it?
For a person who played pokemon from gen 1 - gen 3 this was my first pokemon game back and it was very easy, but I think they wanted everyone to get to the post game to enjoy the game more and not take too long with the story. The post game is great between the raid battles, shiny catching, and battle tower to max out your stats.
Agreed. I do miss the DS-era story elements though, I kinda wish Macro Cosmos was more like a traditional evil team, rather than all the plot being contained within the last hour of the game. Also, I literally have spent well over 60 hours just in the wild area. It’s easily better than Tera raids and a lot of fun
Grookey gang! And have you heard the theory that Kabu is Flannerys grandfather because he's originally from Hoenn and her grandfather gave her the gym? Flannerys grandfather was also once a member of the Elite 4, could it possibly have been Kabu? I know we have Mr. Moore in the anime but he's technically not canon to the games. Either way, its one of my favourite little theories 💕
You actually can catch a wild steelix in the southeast corner of the wild area during certain weather conditions, although you need the final badge for it as it’s level 60 iirc and spikemuth’s badge only grants up to level 55, I think same goes for the Onyx right outside the wild area station

I know a lot of people bash these games for being too easy, dexit, etc. But I personally love them. As a competitive player, the additions they made to make it less time consuming to train competitive mons is soooo welcome and overdue. The exp candies are not to make the game baby easy for story mode, but to make it easier to level an imperfect pokemon to 100 to hyper train them. It's rather ironic that the people that complain about them making the game 'too easy' are the casual players who aren't even good at pokemon 😂 I'm a grown man, I don't expect the story mode to be difficult when they were never meant to be challenging to adults since the very first game
I can't like this comment enough! I love this! GF knew the game was going to have a competitive scene, a huge one, and that's mostly why they have everything the way they did in-game.
The complaining about EXP candies drives me up the wall. Even if you don't play competitive they're great for when you want to get a new catch up to speed with the rest of your team quick or if you've been rotating between a lot of Pokemon and suddenly find yourself underleveled! And sure they probably also help out little kids that get stuck (or heck even adults that don't have hours to dedicate to video game grinding). "The game was too easy because I got my pokemon up to level 50 before the first gym!" Well who's fault is that???
@@suicune95 like right now, I'm on my second casual play through on shield, and I like to rotate my party depending on what gym I'm about to go up against, and I make sure at least 3 pokemon Kno moves that best that gym. I like to keep my Pokemon at certain levels so the game isn't too easy or hard, I control the difficulty on when I wanna play easy mode or not.
Galar yamask is hard to evolve But, i found a easier way to do it You get a focus sash in one of the homes Put it on yamask Find a sentimental cactus And fight it And when it used giga drain ore whatever Switch out And the run away- Just in case you fail to run away Then go to the spot in the dusty bowl and there you have it! :D Tis a shame you have to use the focus sash- But it’s easier that way-

My favourite part about this video is how he pronounces almost every town and new Pokemon differently than I do and I will forever wonder if I'm wrong or he is.
I really enjoy these videos - they're how I first found your channel. As a suggestion, you could consider choosing a non-core series Pokemon game - e.g. XD, Colosseum, or even the N64 version of Pokemon Snap. I realize some people like watching these videos to compare to their own experiences playing these games, but choosing games that are slightly less well-known could be interesting since people wouldn't necessarily know what to expect. Regardless of what you choose, I'm definitely looking forward to the next one. And 100K subs soon - it's long overdue. :)
33:00 Says we can't catch Steelix anywhere near this part of the game. Yes we can, because Stelix is easily available in the Wild Area as an overworld encounter in both sections. I know the guide doesn't tell him that, but how many new players WOULDN'T explore for a bit before just running towards the next goal?
Agree. And the rivals and gym leaders designs and personalities are much more memorable than simple good friend cardboard cutout rivals or asshole with no development 1 and 2.
I love this game. I don't understand why people hated it so much. The pokemon community can be so toxic that I immediately assume someone is awful if they say they're a fan of pokemon. My only complaint was that it was too short. I'd have liked one long, tough dungeon or something. But I enjoyed gen 8.
Can’t believe they went so far as to (sneakily) suggest using Inkay for contrary superpower shenanigans. The quality assurance of these guides today… man!
Watching your videos invariably gives me a moment of confusion because you use the level up jingle, and my text notification is *also* the level up jingle.
32:56 can't you catch Steelix in the wild area in the corner by that huge rock by this point in the game? The guide didn't say that so it's not like a new player would know that though
Hopefully this is at least a novel SwSh complaint: I found the end of Shield really lackluster, in part because SwSh favours sweeping so strongly that the only way to use *any* of the stall tactics I designed my all-Ghost stall team around was to *deliberately waste my own time* not attacking pokemon I could take out in two hits, but also because the AI completely refuses to engage with the Stealth Rock/Perish Body Cursola setup I was so excited to use. No, the AI will never switch into Stealth Rock to avoid fainting to the Perish counter. No, this turning the first pokemon in every team into a free knockout is not interesting. Yes, half the time I knocked the first pokemon out before the perish counter could finish going down. I imagine the entire game would have been like that if I hadn't been locked out of most ghost types until after the sixth gym. And of course Raid-style battles are Sweepers Only because they're immune to everything else. I spent the whole game waiting to have fun and then it didn't deliver.
The 2 grunts in Galar Mine 2 have Pokémon all weak to Fighting, but the guide recommends only Fairy types, even though you can see the Fighting symbol in all their weaknesses.

Eh, the missing Pokémon is what Pokémon HOME is for… it’s not like it’s an unprecedented restriction either, Fire Red/Leaf Green & Platinum also had restrictions on what Pokémon you can have in game
I like how your team consist of 3 muscular dudes, Rillaboom, Beartic and Grimmsnarl, 2 doggos, Growlithe and Boltund and a bunch of war gnomes Falinks. I sense a theme there.
Also, boxing Bewear hurts my feelings.
This is epic gamer content
Also can’t wait for the sun and moon ones too
Heck Yhe. Sun and moon was my first game so it really has a big part in my heart
@@twinshiftyt it was my first game too
It was my first game too
Absolutely! I actually have a sun and moon guidebook that’s ridiculously detailed, pretty sure it has a section on competitive breeding and all the stuff like that. I have no clue if that’s the one that’ll be used but it would be cool if it was.
@@hellowormwood I would agree I also have the guide also I have the ultra sun and ultra moon guide
Glad you enjoyed the game - for me the only negative of Sword & Shield is that it's too easy. Beyond that, phenomenal in just about every way.
PapaSea: “Tsareena has immense attacks ~~and thighs~~.”
Me: Ah, I see you are a man of culture yourself.
I saw that evolution without being prepared and I'm like...they have to he aware of what's happening to these designs at this point.
Those people that say you’re not allowed to enjoy it are the toxic “fans” that give the community such a bad image. Of course you can enjoy the game.
23:15 found a mistake in the guide. It says to use rock moves against Gengar and not ghost moves
Great video as always PaPaSea!
I want "400 percent damage" to be a regular bit from this point on so badly xD
I haven't ever seen the Sword and Shield strategy guide before! Physical strategy guides have become so uncommon, so I'm really glad this game got one! :D
I do love the Pokémon suggestions in this guide. The author really seems to love Electric types. Let's give it 400 percent! xD
I was buying them all the way until gen 6 and I'm like wait...the Dex and guide used to be one thing and for like three gens, I've been getting both. Of course like most, I just leaned hard on the internet for the info I needed.
Totally agree with you, SwSh are great games that may have their issues (like every game) but they are fun and I know you didn't include the DLC, but it REALLY gives it that extra push to make them great games IMO so I highly recommend playing them at some point, or even making a part 2 for this video focusing on DLC. Regardless, great video man! I can't wait for the next one!
The first time I played Pokemon Shield my curiosity told me where the evolutionary stones are without looking it up, so you evolving Growlithe wouldn't be cheating.
Having a guide for a switch game is hilarious, honestly with the internet now they are basically collecters pieces for fans
Pretty much
So true
I have a basement gen 4-6 and the Dex then I just stopped.
what about kids ?
@@padnomnidprenon9672 I imagine they'd just use the internet now.
Rose is practically bedes adopted kid-
Pretty much from what I got from playing the games-
Until he disowns him and all-
But bede found a gawd damn stature
And is never noticed for it-
Like, im glad he destroyed the old ass fridge art
That’s literally red flowers and the sword and shield-
Like, why wasn’t bede ever recognized for uncovering it?
I'm also starting a NEW randomized nuzlocke live on Twitch tonight! come check it out! www.twitch.tv/papasea
23:17
Acording to the guide, Gengar as a Rock weakness instead of Dark xD
Grookey gang!
And have you heard the theory that Kabu is Flannerys grandfather because he's originally from Hoenn and her grandfather gave her the gym?
Flannerys grandfather was also once a member of the Elite 4, could it possibly have been Kabu?
I know we have Mr. Moore in the anime but he's technically not canon to the games.
Either way, its one of my favourite little theories 💕
Hope they'll be lots of hammer away jokes
You actually can catch a wild steelix in the southeast corner of the wild area during certain weather conditions, although you need the final badge for it as it’s level 60 iirc and spikemuth’s badge only grants up to level 55, I think same goes for the Onyx right outside the wild area station
22:44 Ah yes how could I forget Gengar's classic rock weakness
Every time I see this series, I feel like it's a lost opportunity to write it "Beating X as NIntended". Great content as always
YA YA YA this I NEEDED THIS to save my Day. Something to finally let my head go less heavy just chill laugh and watch some @PaPaSea thank you a ton. I hope you have some new videos to watch as well or enjoy the weekend peace!
I LOVE SW/SH!!! THANK YOU FOR PLAYING IT!!!
SwSh finally made a good friendly rival, and introduced two more amazing rivals in the process
I love how the guide tried to insert British slang, that’s awesome
I really enjoyed this game. It’s the first one I ever beat, and played from r/y/b through ruby/sapphire. Hated the grind to try and beat the top trainers. This made it fun and accessible.
Sadly there’s no guide for the DLCs to ever do a Nintended video on them…
Around 7:00 this remind me of how in French, the towns and cities in Kalos' names sound like actual French town names, while in English it's just a French word with -city or -town slapped at the end of it.
TLDR : Kalosian towns name in French sound French but it sounds dumb in English
When I saw that PaPaSea uploaded a 46 minute video, I just couldn’t help but click in two shakes of a lamb’s tail
I really enjoyed my first play of Shield, but my god this video highlights how many good pokemon I missed. Can't believe I overlooked G-Rapidash and Grimmsnarl!
I love how it starts out! Sea picks Shield instead of sword, which I did when I started, and he picked Grookey, which was my pokemon in this game. Sea is a man of culture!😎
As far as I know, there isn’t a guide for the DLC. So I guess we just are forced to wander into the “great unknown”
Pulling a Niantic by skipping Alola I see. Only my fellow Pokémon Go players will understand.
It took me forever to work out how you got "Tom" from your favourite Spider-Man, but I finally got it:
To(bey) M(aguire)
Wow I didn't know that two gym leaders differ based on the version
Explains why I didn't get nightmares from Allister and instead had fond memories of best girl Bea
You've been absolutely DYING to use "Hammer away" with "Wood Hammer" (Or Hammer Arm)!!
I know I would be!! Here I am waiting on literally the edge of my seat, because when you learned it I was like "He's totally gonna go for "Hammer away with Wood Hammer."
I'm proud.
This video is gonna push you over 100k im calling it
Edit: Congrats!
Stuck with Growlithe??? STUCK WITH GROWLITHE!!!
I am offended on my fluffy boi's adorable behalf!
I'm 100% with you on that. The is only one thing I didn't like about this and last gen.
I agree with you.
I'm heading to stow on side to fight allister, and I'm the way there, I was getting Punk'd by a picnicker with a sawk lmao, she bulked up twice and took out half my team of 6. I like to keep my Pokemon at certain levels so the game isn't too easy or hard, I control the difficulty on when I wanna play easy mode or not.
I love pokemon sword, it's the first game I ever beat, and I had alot of fun with it
The Berry page is no thorn, nice.
Galar yamask is hard to evolve
But, i found a easier way to do it
You get a focus sash in one of the homes
Put it on yamask
Find a sentimental cactus
And fight it
And when it used giga drain ore whatever
Switch out
And the run away-
Just in case you fail to run away
Then go to the spot in the dusty bowl and there you have it! :D
Tis a shame you have to use the focus sash-
But it’s easier that way-
togepi for toxel is totally worth it in my opinion especially if you get it's hidden ability

I agree your rival hop in Pokemon sword and shield is surprise at the very beginning of the game that you the player know your type advantages
PaPaSea…hammering away at the main series Pokémon games one by one
Just dropped a chunky sub, can't believe I wasn't already subbed
33:00 Says we can't catch Steelix anywhere near this part of the game. Yes we can, because Stelix is easily available in the Wild Area as an overworld encounter in both sections. I know the guide doesn't tell him that, but how many new players WOULDN'T explore for a bit before just running towards the next goal?
Kinda part of my issue with the way he goes about doing the guides, but the point was to more or less follow the guide strictly.
Sword and shield are probably my favorites in the series because of the quality of life changes and the V/Vmax pokemon
Agree. And the rivals and gym leaders designs and personalities are much more memorable than simple good friend cardboard cutout rivals or asshole with no development 1 and 2.
they’re one of my favorite games too. i much prefer them over gen 1-3
I always want the background you use when you are flipping through the guide books. It looks so cute.
Imagine buying the strategy guide unironically to play through the most linear Pokémon game to date. Who was that guide made for?! Great video though!
I love this game. I don't understand why people hated it so much. The pokemon community can be so toxic that I immediately assume someone is awful if they say they're a fan of pokemon.
My only complaint was that it was too short. I'd have liked one long, tough dungeon or something. But I enjoyed gen 8.
Nintendo intended us to walk through this game and beat it blindfolded by accident.
You shouldn’t feel bad about enjoying this game. Pokémon fans can be so toxic! I really liked this video!
Me hearing about the Berries page: ah yes, the secrete texts.
Can’t believe they went so far as to (sneakily) suggest using Inkay for contrary superpower shenanigans. The quality assurance of these guides today… man!
Finally, someone chooses grookey in a play-through.
🤢🤮
I mean why not? Ape Shxt has been the homie.
At 13:12 when talking about Oleana's team, apparently she has a G-Max "Malodor" - must be a pretty cool pokemon :P
I have this guidebook. I will follow along while watching this
Finally, I have been waiting for this
Don’t worry about using Growlithe on Rose, I used Growlithe on Raihan in my first playthrough
Just noticed, but congrats on 100k man, you deserve it!
In my head: Why hasn’t he evolved Grolithe yet…
Hears logic: 🤯
"hammer away with wood hammer"
Heeeey! You actually hammered away this time
I never expected this this is gonna be fun
I have no idea why I loved these games so much but they became top 3 pokemon generations immediately. So much fun
"Tsareena has Immense attack, and thighs" caught in 4k around 38:12
I think pancham isn’t weak to fighting yet.
